Notable & Quotable
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable comes from The Fires that Forge, Book I of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series. You can download a FREE ebook of Fires that Forge from Amazon starting February 10th and running through February 14th.
“I assume you left the note,” Hydern said.
The figure, still in the shadows, didn’t respond.
“Look here, I’m a watchman of Moras,” Hydern said, taking on a tone of command. “I haven’t time for nonsense. Your note mentioned business so, let us get to it.”
“A mutual business associate gave me your name,” the dark figure said.
Hydern knew the voice but couldn’t quite place it.
“The man’s name was Kelly.”
The name struck Hydern as surely as thrown stone to the forehead.
“Kelly didn’t have friends,” Hydern said. One hand, a bit obviously, moved toward the short sword while another moved under his cloak toward one of his daggers. “I do have friends. Powerful friends. Friends you might want to know about before you do anything foolish.”
“Would any of those friends be Sword Bearers?”
The blood drained from Hydern’s face and the hand moving for the dagger faltered.
“They’re not real,” Hydern said unconvincingly. “They haven’t been around for centuries. You’re not gonna scare me with some loose talk.”
You can find an ever-growing glossary and geographic guide on our website here; www.bloodlinesreforged.com. You can also find a few spoilers such as the lineage of kingdoms, the Code of the Cavalier, and so on.
I had the opportunity to listen to two audio books over the past two weeks and feel compelled to tell you about them. The first, King’s Warrior, by Jenelle Schimdt, is a wonderful epic fantasy tale. Also, I really enjoyed the narration!
The second is Embellish, by Demelza Carlton. This is a beautifully told fairytale for adults that I think many of you will enjoy.
The free read this week comes from S. Zahedi. The Journey Home is Book I of the Lords of Magic series and you can get it now for FREE!
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. For those of you who’ve asked about Margaret (our traveling peahen), she’s been making her rounds (wherever it is she goes) and was back through this past week. This is a picture of her and Annie (the white horse pictured) talking over the new dog (Pinker).
I hope the new year is treating you all well. Let me know how you’re doing. Feel free to drop me a line at rj@bloodlinesreforged.com with word of how you’re doing, questions about our tales, or comments about the story or the world of Stratvs. If you enjoy our brand of ‘humor’ or just want more frequent updates, you can follow us on Facebook here; Roland’s Quest!

Notable & Quotable
Before we get started, I wanted to let you know that after this week, we are going to a bi-weekly newsletter. So, if you think you’ve missed us next Saturday, just be patient.
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable comes from The Fires that Forge, Book I of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series.
Lady Evalynne ruled one of the wealthiest cities in all of Stratvs. Her beauty was only rivaled by her wealth and her prowess with a blade. Standing at six feet four inches in height, and well-muscled, her blonde curls spilled down over shoulders broadened and browned by a life at sea. The epitome of the Great Woman race, she was strong, fearless, and quite cunning.
Almost a century before, Lady Evalynne, then the ship’s captain of a privateer vessel, had brought down the corrupt former lord of Moras by force. She secured the great city, and spilled a great deal of blood, for King Eirsett. In return, she was awarded the rule of the city and surrounding lands. Since that time, she had proved herself quite adept in the arts of diplomacy and trade. Thus, this show of the Reeve’s respect as well as that of her personal guard. However, it was not like her to miss an opportunity such as this, and she was the sort to see a funeral as an opportunity.
You can find an ever-growing glossary and geographic guide on our website here; www.bloodlinesreforged.com. You can also find a few spoilers such as the lineage of kingdoms, the Code of the Cavalier, and so on.
Also, codes are available for a FREE audiobook of each of the titles in this collection of Sci-Fi & Fantasy audiobooks! This is a limited time offer, so act now.
The group promotion this week is a collection of clean fantasy works, all available on KU. Click the link below for a whole host of clean fantasy reads on Kindle Unlimited.
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. For those of you who missed it, we learned the hard way that Pinker stays only where she chooses to stay. We had some very cold and wet weather blow in on New Year’s Eve and, instead of putting her in her run in the back yard while we went to a party, we decided to put her in our bathroom. Keep in mind, we put her bed, several toys and bones, and her food bowl and water bowl in there with her. We got home to find this, and her sleeping comfortably in our bed.
I hope the new year is treating you all well. Let me know how you’re doing. Notable & Quotable
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable comes from Bloom of Blood & Bone, Book II of the Lords of Order & Chaos Series.
His lean yet powerfully muscled form stood like a marble pillar as the north wind slapped his black silk robe against his frame. His sword, a Shrou-Hayn of old, lay on the frozen stone behind him next to his boots and hooded cloak. His bald head also shined with the monochromatic, cold light of a cloudless winter night.
Lynneare had gorged himself on the blood of more than a dozen Tarborat warriors. He had subsisted on a diet of creatures and livestock for centuries in an effort to begin his atonement. However, a test of greater penance was before him, and he did not view the slaughter of soldiers serving the Stone Throne a sin, and apparently, neither did Father Time. Ingshburn sought to destroy the world of man, elf, and dwarf. Ingshburn sought to bring about a darkness so monstrous it would even threaten the gods. Lynneare thought the murder of soldiers who would submit to the command of Ingshburn the opposite of a transgression. It was an act worthy of the Shyeld or Templars of old.
Now he would be pushed physically and mentally farther than he had in an eon.
Now the Sands of Time were once more his to manipulate. Now he had the Hourglass of the Father.
The first book to mention this week is The King’s Trial, by M.L. Farb, also available in audiobook. In a land where stories of the Shadow Demon keep children shivering in bed and tales of the Yorel bring hope to the commoner, Yosyph is both the reason for their fear and their hope.
The next book on our list this week is The Northern Prince, by Stephen Calin. When the lightcrafter Yessead comes to the world of Ellos he finds the fragile peace threatened by an impending war. But a much darker threat looms in the shadows.
Our last book to tell you about this week is one you may have seen before, A Fiery Farewell, by Paul Cude. Captured, bereft of magic, allies dead, severely outnumbered, torn apart and about to be put to the sword, can the brave dragon and human heroes escape their inexplicable fate at the hands of a being that knows no mercy?
Will the arrival of a vengeful group of mythical beasts help or hinder their efforts?
Can two beings from different ages combine to aid them?
As to life here in our little corner of the world, we are all doing well. As you can see by the pictures below, our beloved Pinker thoroughly enjoyed her Christmas present.
As you may have guessed, I got into a bit of trouble over the mess it made.
Happy New Year to all of you! Let me know how you’re doing. Notable & Quotable (Merry Christmas!)

I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well. This week’s Notable & Quotable comes from Roland’s Triumph, Book III of the Heirs of Vanity Series.
“There were many of us sad to see your father leave the front and return to Fordir to take the position of Reeve,” Sir Brutis said. “I understand it, but we missed his sword. I missed his friendship. We had known each other since the Silver Helm academy.”
“You were in the Silver Helm academy as well?” Sir Eldryn asked as he rode up to them.
“That I was,” Sir Brutis replied. “A long time ago. I attended there with Velryk and his brother in fact. I met Ellidik sometime later, on the front in the war with Tarborat. He was riding with the Sheld Fleet by then. They would be proud of the warriors that you have become.”
“You didn’t know my father in the academy?” Eldryn asked.
“No,” Brutis replied. “He was much younger than I. He and Velryk met when Dik joined the King’s army. Dik’s academy was a few years after ours.”
“Then you knew Kyhn as well?” Sir Eldryn asked, changing the subject. He enjoyed hearing of tales of his father and his friends. However, those stories should be shared near a hearth with a drink in hand, not on the road to a battle.
“Yes, he was a fellow student at one time.”
“Then you know that we will also likely meet him,” Eldryn said.
“Yes, I am sure of that,” Sir Brutis said. “Remember this, he is only a man. He bleeds like any other.”
“Forgive me, Sir Brutis,” Roland said, clearly not taking the cue from Eldryn to move on to a more practical conversation. “Did you say my father and his brother? I would like to hear more of my uncle, Jonas. I have never met him.”
“Yes,” Brutis replied lowering his face a bit and looking off into the distance. “It is a shame about him. We missed him on the front as well.”
Curiosity burned in Roland’s mind. He decided, however, that he didn’t want anyone else to know how ignorant he was of his own family.
“Did Lord Velryk teach you the guard of the Hawk, or the Stance of the Bear?” Sir Brutis asked.
“Both,” the young men replied in unison.
“That’s unusual,” Sir Brutis said. “Either is hard to master, but learning both requires talent, skill, and a great deal of practice.”
“He also taught us the Moras Hold and the River Stance,” Eldryn said.
“I wouldn’t say that we mastered any of them,” Roland said. “But father always said it was good to understand yourself, but better to understand your opponent.”
“Well, then,” Sir Brutis said as he directed his horse out of line from the convoy of soldiers. “Let’s try a game. It’s a game that Engiyadu taught us. One that they ‘play’ on the Disputed Isles where he is from.”

The book I need to tell you about this week is a tale from Mike DeSousa called Valley of the Red Ghosts; Vanguards vs Paladins. Here’s what one Amazon reviewer had to say, “Good read. Has a dungeon crawler vibe to it and interesting characters. Can’t wait for more!”

Tindrakin stood and walked past Roland back toward the barn. Roland could smell the strong drink of the dwarves on Tin’s breath. Roland hoped he had put an end to that need. He walked around behind the small home and found Ungar directing other dwarves in their construction work. They were leveling the foundation for the rest of the house and marking the corners with wooden stakes.
“Ungar, I want you to know how much you and your soldiers being here means to me,” Roland said.
“That is our way,” Ungar said. “We stand beside our friends.”
“Will you be here when I return in the spring?”
“I will not,” Ungar said. “My crew will be though.”
“Where must you go?” Roland asked.
“Well with you, you dolt,” Ungar replied. “I’ll not be missin’ any fightin’. I’m leavin’ behind me a good crew and they’ll do ya a fine job. Battarc ‘ill be in charge of ‘em. He’s sturdy, good with stone, and one of the finest warriors I know. I’ll be marchin’ with you.”
“This is not your fight,” Roland said.
“I know that,” Ungar said. “I don’t need a cause, I just need a place.”

Can Yessod solve the puzzle in time? Will he find a way to undo the evil and bring back life and light into this world? As Yessod rushes to discover what lies behind these ill-fated events, this gripping, fascinating story will take you unto a world like no other…

This week’s quote from Whetstones of the Will, Book III in the Lords of Order & Chaos Series.
Verkial continued up the trail that wound into the foothills of the mountains, trying to decide how to explain the little bit that he knew about the abominations. They had been only legend for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, but now some fool had re-opened that can of worms. Actually, not just some fool, but a spoiled brat with a smarmy mouth and likely no head for politics or tactics whatsoever.
“You remember that ox that defeated you in those games during our respite in Dead Horse?”
“Sire, I was drunk, and had been fightin’ in games all day that day, and I…”
“Shut up. You remember it, right? The game of Rope-Pull between you two?”
“I do.”
“That ox was stronger than you,” Verkial held up his hand to stop another protest from Hallgrim. “Just barely, but it still won the Rope-Pull. Tell me, did anyone in that crowd fear the ox?”
“Of course not,” Hallgrim said with a confused look on his face. “Why would anyone fear an ox?”
“But they do fear you, right?”
“You’re da…, yes, they do, my lord. They fear yourself as well.”
“Why, neither of us is as strong as that ox.”
“’ Cause we’re a danger to more than just piled up hay,” Hallgrim said with a laugh. “Why, I remember this one time…”
“So, it isn’t strength alone that makes something dangerous, right?” Verkial waited for Hallgrim’s nod and then continued. “Champions are powerful, no doubt. They’re strong. But, they don’t have any ambition, no drive. Some know how to use weapons, but they only know what they’re taught. No champion ever invented a weapon or a new killing technique with blade or hammer. No champion ever devised a plan of battle or set up an ambush. The violence of this world is all man-made. A Chaos Lord, well, that’s just a man with the strength of a demon at his disposal.”

Next, I need to tell you about a collection of Japanese folklore tales from Erynn Lehtonnen called the Yokai Calling Series. It comes out on Amazon in just a few weeks.

This week’s quote comes from our RPG gaming table.
GM/DM: This wild and tattooed barbarian is known as Baco.
Player 1: Paco?
GM/DM: Baco.
Player 1: Paco is a weird name for a barbarian.
GM/DM (now becoming suspicious of the Player’s ‘mistake’: Did I mention he’s a Battle Rager with an artifact axe and that you notice he begins to seeth with anger?
You can find an ever-growing glossary and geographic guide on our website here; www.bloodlinesreforged.com. You can also find a few spoilers such as the lineage of kingdoms, the Code of the Cavalier, and so on.
The book I need to tell you about this week is a diversion from our usual fare. The Lady and the Farmer, by R.A. Barlow is a clean romance for those of you who might enjoy a more puritan romance from time to time.
A fellow author, Stephanie Hansen (no relation), was kind enough to send me a copy of her new book, Altered Helix AND an Amazon gift card for Christmas. How cool is that? You can find her work here; https://www.authorstephaniehansen.com/

As to life here in our little corner of the world, we learned from the vet that our Great Dane rescue, Pinker, is deaf. Thus, we’ve begun teaching her sign language for commands (no, sit, stay, get your ball, let’s go outside, etc). It’s been an unusual but wonderful experience. Oh, and pet tip of the week, don’t stand on a slick surface when an eight-month-old ninety-pound Great Dane is charging you to return the tennis ball you threw. Another pet/marital tip, don’t play fetch with a ninety-pound Great Dane in the house, and certainly don’t throw the ball anywhere near where your wife has her knickknacks displayed.

Notable & Quotable
Back to ‘regular’ business this week. So, without further delay, your Notable and Quotable for the week;
This week’s Notable and Quotable is from Whetstones of the Will, Book III in the Lords of Order & Chaos Series;
As Maloch bent forward, his long white hair spilled out of the hood he wore. He raised one hand slowly and pushed back his cowl to reveal his ebony skin and shining white eyes. Dunewell twisted his war hammer in his hands and scanned their surroundings once again. He’d faced drow in Tarborat and knew they were fond of their tricks, deceptions, and ambushes.
Why did I not sense him? Dunewell thought/said.
He isn’t evil, Whitburn replied. Perhaps he was once, but he no longer bears the aura. I’d like to kill him too, but I think we should hear him out. He has the scent of Father Time’s power and will.
“I bet you have an interesting story to tell,” Dunewell said, hoping his tone would help to calm Jonas.
In other news, the audiobook boxset of Heirs of Vanity (consisting of Roland’s Path, Roland’s Vow, and Roland’s Triumph) is FINALLY available at Audible.com! You can find it here:

The winners of the free audiobook have been notified. Congratulations, Clayton and John! I hope you enjoy the audiobook. Be sure to check your spam folder in case you missed the email from rj@bloodlinesreforged.com
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you all well.
If you’re looking for a starter into the Bloodlines Reforged Saga, Fires that Forge and/or Roland’s Path are the starting blocks. The complete first trilogies of both are available on Amazon and can be found here; Heirs of Vanity and Lords of Order & Chaos. We have at least two more series planned (Orphan’s Blade and Templar’s Rebellion) that will go into the over all Saga. Each series is set up to stand alone, but you will find a deeper understanding of all the characters involved if you read all the series. Please consider leaving us a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads. Thanks!
You can find an ever-growing glossary and geographic guide on our website here; www.bloodlinesreforged.com. You can also find a few spoilers such as the lineage of kingdoms, the Code of the Cavalier, and so on.
I need to tell you about Rowan Staeffler’s The Black Eyed Witch. Here’s what the author has to say on Amazon; Lithia is hunted by evil King Noran, a madman obsessed with acquiring the longevity, healing powers, and inhuman strength of witches. Royal guard and former witch hunter Ronan, framed for killing Noran’s predecessor, escapes the palace before Noran can silence him.
Oh, and another tale comes to us from Lauren M.D. called Where There’s Smoke. Lauren M.D. is a rising fantasy author. She lives in urban areas with her husband and two dogs. She loves reading, travelling and daydreaming.
She writes new epic fantasy filled with betrayal, intrigue, mysteries, romance, adventure and twisting plots. She loves exploring cultures and her books are praised for having gripping stories. She cut her reading teeth on the likes of J.K. Rowling, JRR Tolkien, George R.R. Martin,Stan Lee.
A third novel, A Fiery Farewell, comes to us this week from Paul Cude. Here’s what one reviewer had to say, “I can’t in all honesty remember when a series of books effected me so much. I cried like mad at the end feeling the emotion of the characters I’d become familiar with through the storyline who were brilliant, brave and lovable. A MUST for all who enjoy this genre. My sincere thanks to the author for his skill and ability with words and for the journey these books have taken me on.
On the home front, some of you know I was hospitalized last week due to some symptoms of Covid. I am happy to report that I am home and no longer subject to a diet of only hospital food. Pinker has been very happy to have me home. She did not agree with the hospital’s policy about no visitors.
