Scott MacLeod <sgkmacleod@gmail.com>2:05 PM (7 hours ago)to PattiBarbaraTaylorBruceDavidHeatherWhat is this Bandcamp Friday Nov 6th? Have any of you used Bandcamp?
It looks like artists can upload for free to Bandcamp, and it's from the fans who buy the music that bandcamp earns money, but that on these pandemic Fridays that bandcamp waives the 15 - 20% they normally take
May give it a try ... :)https://scottmacleodhoneyinthebagscottishsmallpipesbagpiping.bandcamp.com/

How does Bandcamp work for artists?
When you buy something on Bandcamp, whether it's digital music, vinyl, or a t-shirt, ticket or cassette, 80-85% of your money goes to the artist, and we pay out daily. The remainder goes to payment processor fees and Bandcamp's revenue share, which is 10-15% on digital items, and 10% on physical goods.

About | Bandcamp

Do artists make money from Bandcamp?
Artist accounts are free. We make money through our revenue share on sales, which is 15% for digital, 10% for merch. We also offer Bandcamp Pro (our premium tier for artists), and Bandcamp for Labels, both for a monthly fee.

Ma,
Am exploring this for my upcoming Honey in the Bag album, and it's free for musicians.
Will explore playing outside today with video recording from Smartphone short clips to post to Twitter ...
and then with Bandcamp, to record again, tunes (like I've been doing), and then upload to bandcamp, as well as perhaps record the whole album and upload it too ... https://scottmacleodhoneyinthebagscottishsmallpipesbagpiping.bandcamp.com/ This would be as a first step to going into the wild plum studio for a professional recording, and possible production of a CD too - both of which I could then upload and also sell on bandcamp ... thinking through next steps ... now to head outside to play ... am inspired by Stuart Liddell's virtuosic piping I'm hearing as I type :)
How are you? :)
Love, Scott

Recording outside to include the Golden Great Bridge is difficult with smartphones, smartphone holders and too bright light in the afternoon ...

A slight smile seems nicer than a serious face in video too ...(and how to connect Google photos / videos with a different Gmail account to keep account size limit down?)
Further recordings inside with Audacity, and then uploading tracks - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/western-honey-bee-re-my-upcoming-honey.html - to Bandcamp for learning purposes ...

to me

Hi Scott,
It was nice to see you again at the talk, and thank you for your questions.
I am also grateful for these interesting ideas and projects. The paper you share is great. Do you know content tourism in Japan? I think that is relevant.
I am developing a new project on ethics of digital heritage.I would be very interested in joining your seminar. Look forward to your virtual hot spring.
cheers,Yujie

Yujie,
Thanks for your email, your talk, and very nice to see you again as well. I don't know content tourism in Japan. What might you suggest looking at?
Regarding your new project on ethics of digital heritage, and ethics and tourism, - and the information age as new condition with which to interpret tourism - I wonder if "The Hacker Ethos"  by Pekka Himanen might be of interest to you, re interpreting the ethics of the IT Revolution (and which book and ideas I teach about - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html). Also re ethics, in my peer reviewed chapter on Tourism in the Middle East to online virtual UNESCO World Heritage Sites, I argue that German UNESCO WHS producers engage in a form of orientalism (per Edward Said) - and with many ethics' implications (book here - https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity - and I can send you the chapter if interested, which emerges also from getting to know a UC Berkeley Tourism Studies' friend Rami Daher, who edited the book).

And regarding, further, UNESCO WHS, my Univ of Edinburgh MSc dissertation was on visiting virtual St. Kilda, Scotland, as an emerging, or nascent, online 'place' - http://scottmacleod.com/MacLeod%20Physical%20and%20Online%20St%20Kilda%20A%20%20Comparison%20of%20Senses%20of%20Place%20MSc%20Dissertation%20University%20of%20Edinburgh.pdf - regarding your interest in heritage too.

A realistic virtual earth for EVERYTHING will include a realistic virtual earth for history - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForHistory?src=hashtag_click - and am thinking conceptually in terms of Google Street View with TIME SLIDER, so that we'll be able to time slide back to the making of heritage sites too.
Looking forward to seeing you on December 18th re my TSWG seminar; am also seeking eventually to teach a research seminar on the making of actual-virtual Harbin emerging from - http://www.scottmacleod.com/research-group.html .
Cheers, Scott

Yujie,

Here's Pekka HImanen's book (with Linus Torvalds and Manuel Castells - and again I'm a Castellian) actually, and it's called "The Hacker Ethic" (not the Hacker Ethos) - http://index-of.co.uk/Hackers/hacker%20ethic.pdf - re your digital ethics' project.

Have blogged about some of this here further - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/10/google-earth-what-is-realistic-virtual.html

click on the little mask to go into stereo-optic mode, and slip it into a Google Cardboard mask if you have that. Am seeking for this to become an ethnographic research field site too, and re my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project.
How to make this virtual Harbin part of a single realistic virtual earth, so that on my Google Smart TV I could 'travel' anywhere virtually at any time in history and visit anything, and it would keep iterating on itself with more and more data (and at the cellular and atomic levels too)?

Am curious if this virtual Lego idea could emerge further in combination with edX Online Campus - with which at edX the MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School is officially partnering - could emerge as part of World University and School's planned campus of a #Realistic Virtual Earth for STEAM  - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForSTEM?src=hashtag_click (sans A :) - and for everything. And with MIT Media Lab further, could this emerge in educational Minecraft with its Lego scale (I've heard, and with related developments in Google) and out of MIT & Google even (and even for WUaS's undergraduate matriculating students this January, many of whom will speak English as a Second Language, so Lego Robotics' play could be an engaging beginning for them as their English improves), and with MIT OCW Lego Robotics' courses - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/experimental-study-group/es-293-lego-robotics-spring-2007/ -  developed for the 3 Lego Robotics' kits into potentially WUaS Open edX courses.

Wonderful presentation -

Yale University Professor Ana De La O

Dear Ana,
Thank you again for your excellent and delightful "Crafting Policies to End Poverty" Stanford talk - https://mailchi.mp/stanford.edu/rsvp-for-clas-friday-lecture-with-prof-ana-de-la-o?e=94f78f5eea . And thank you for responding to the UBI question especially.
Two further thoughts or questions came to mind after it yesterday:
Could you see cash transfers as becoming experiments (re an UBI), even somehow substituting the word such 'experiments' for 'cash transfers' conceptually?
And could you see an organization in Latin America emerging to distribute a single cryptocurrency, paralleling the European Central Bank (representing 19 our 28 nation states' central banks regarding the EURO), and which could address in a pan-Latin American way, and governments-wise, questions of insulation of programs, as well as fair distribution of cash transfers, mitigating the country by country issues you mentioned and in the countries' you study?
Best regards, Scott
My questions from before your talk and during:

What role might UBI experiments to distribute a single cryptocurrency backed by most of ~200 countries' central banks come to play in crafting policies to end poverty in Latin America? (And how best to proceed with WUaS facilitating a single cryptocurrency distributed via UBI experiments in most of all of ~200 countries - to alleviate poverty - and with Wikidata PIN #s for all 7.8 billion wiki teachers and learners? https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/10/juniper-agenda-news-for-open-world-univ.html and see UBI label too. Thank you. Scott GK MacLeod (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)

Thank you for your delightful & excellent talk, Prof. De La O! But what about ubi EXPERIMENTS, and especially to distribute a single cryptocurrency backed by most of Latin America’s central banks (and post-Euro backed by 19 out of 28 countries' central banks, and the US dollar as a de facto international currency)? What might be these social protection systems’ relationship with their national banks? Are CCT transfers forms of UBI experiments - and IT-wise esp., -  could one hypothesize and study? Thank you, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)

PSCC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School is seeking to create new online degree-granting universities in Latin America - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States (each a major online university) and in Spanish -https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Spanish_language - as well as wiki schools in ALL languages in Latin America, for open teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages - and potentially for the peoples of Latin America to discuss how to make their own institutions stronger, informed by your excellent talk, and perhaps have more of a say in questions like how to stop poverty there, and regarding cash transfers. Thank you.
While there's a Poverty Action wiki subject - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Poverty_Action - there are only a few MIT OCW courses (which will eventually be for credit) to give you some idea about how MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch works.

PPSAs a Castellian myself (Manuel Castells), am interested in exploring about how best to teach about the information technology revolution further in Latin America - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html ...

PPPSAre you familiar with this recent book by Manuel Castells?
The New Latin America
by Fernando Calderón, Manuel Castells, Ramsey McGlazer (Translation)
Latin America has experienced a profound transformation in the first two decades of the 21st century: it has been fully incorporated into the global economy, while excluding regions and populations devalued by the logic of capitalism. Technological modernization has gone hand-in-hand with the reshaping of old identities and the emergence of new ones.

The transformation of Latin America has been shaped by social movements and political conflicts. The neoliberal model that dominated the first stage of the transformation induced widespread inequality and poverty, and triggered social explosions that led to its own collapse. A new model, neo-developmentalism, emerged from these crises as national populist movements were elected to government in several countries. The more the state intervened in the economy, the more it became vulnerable to corruption, until the rampant criminal economy came to penetrate state institutions. Upper middle classes defending their privileges and citizens indignant because of corruption of the political elites revolted against the new regimes, undermining the model of neo-developmentalism. In the midst of political disaffection and public despair, new social movements, women, youth, indigenous people, workers, peasants, opened up avenues of hope against the background of darkness invading the continent.

This book, written by two leading scholars of Latin America, provides a comprehensive and up-do-date account of the new Latin America that is in the process of taking shape today. It will be an indispensable text for students and scholars in Latin American Studies, sociology, politics and media and communication studies, and anyone interested in Latin America today.

In this talk, I will discuss some of the themes in the book Crafting Policies to End Poverty in Latin America, and will draw lessons from the design and implementation of conditional cash transfer programs in the region. The talk will underscore the importance of understanding the causes and consequences of policy design choices, such as the decision of governments to insulate social policies from political manipulations or not. I will show that whether presidents limit their own discretion or not has consequences for the survival of policies, their political manipulation, and the political capabilities of poor people. Dear Professor Murillo,

Thanks for your Stanford talk -
Observers often take institutional weakness as an exogenous feature of the landscape, decrying the many ways in which weak institutions get in the way of accomplishing various political agendas. In the book "The Politics of Institutional Weakness in Latin America, Brinks, Levitsky and Murillo turn the tables, showing the ways in which institutional weakness is itself a political strategy. My questions: How is institutional strength or weakness informed by the 'actors' of political disaffection and public despair, new social movements, women, youth, indigenous people, workers, peasants? And from a different theoretical perspective, and regarding the 2020 book, "The New Latin America," in what ways could a "new model, neo-developmentalism," reshape state capacity in terms of institutional strength or weakness ?
Thanks, Scott

Dear Professor Murillo,

Thanks for your Stanford talk -
Observers often take institutional weakness as an exogenous feature of the landscape, decrying the many ways in which weak institutions get in the way of accomplishing various political agendas. Their analysis draws on the contributions of chapters covering an array of formal institutions, from constitutions and electoral rules, to labor laws and indigenous rights regimes.

What is a 'Realistic Virtual Earth'? (Stanford Professor Richard Dasher asked me after this Stanford Asia talk)

Scott MacLeod <sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org>Fri, Oct 23, 10:58 AM (1 day ago)to contactsRichardpengjpengDear James, and Richard,
Thanks so much for your edifying "Autonomous Vehicles and the Digital Transformation of the Automotive Industry in Asia" - https://events.stanford.edu/events/890/89022/  - Stanford US-Asia Technology Management Center talk, and conversation, yesterday. I'm writing to follow up about Richard's 'explain your realistic virtual earth concept' regarding mapping and infrastructure inquiry.
In asking:"Following on some Waymo questions here, how could modeling/simulations and combined in a single realistic virtual earth for Autonomous Vehicles help Pony.ai with the development of innovations (am thinking re Waymo of Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth with TensorFlow) and a single realistic virtual earth for Robotics https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics?src=hashtag_click - and for aggregating data? How do you / can Pony.ai partner with Google's Waymo for simulations potentially - and in combination with Toyota's? Thanks, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)" ...

World Univ & Sch seeks to facilitate a single realistic virtual earth for this - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarth?src=hashtag_click - and check out the best STEM CC-4 MIT Open Course Ware courses at World Univ & Sch that WUaS (of which I'm the founder and head, and see too China World Univ & Sch - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China and - planned in the Mandarin language - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Mandarin_language_(Chinese)) will offer for credit with time -
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Electric_and_Hybrid_Vehicles.

And while Richard asked me to describe the Realistic Virtual Earth idea, I think I may have, in asking you about Pony.ai collaborating with Waymo digital infrastructure, only mentioned Google Street with time slider, Maps, Earth and with TensorFlow in response, so I'm just writing to suggest that a developing single realistic virtual earth would incorporate predictive analytic information technologies like Lidar, and this image is a great example of what I have in mind in combination with Google Street View infrastructure - https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1056927933556711424?s=20 - and, in my conceiving of this, would have a developing focus on the ACTUAL < > VIRTUAL, the PHYSICAL < > DIGITAL. So think in these terms of a Realistic Virtual Earth for Lego robotics - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForLego?src=hashtag_click - with a film-to-3D application - https://twitter.com/hashtag/FilmTo3D?src=hashtag_click - (not yet made for smartphones, for ex.), where you could video your physical Lego robotics' creations, and then add them to a developing single Realistic Virtual Earth for Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles - and even ones which were ambulances in China and eg for https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForSurgery?src=hashtag_click . Glad to write in some of these regards that the MIT OCW-centric WUaS Educational Services' Store is officially carrying the 3 Lego Robotics' kits now - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html
In what ways could we explore building this single realistic virtual earth at the cellular and atomic levels too in China, for all its people in its rooms - and even in collaboration between Pony.ai and MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch?

Following on some Waymo questions here, how could modeling/simulations and combined in a single realistic virtual earth for Autonomous Vehicles help Pony.ai with the development of innovations (am thinking re Waymo of Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth with Tensor Flow) and a single realistic virtual earth for Robotics https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics?src=hashtag_click - and for aggregating data? How do you / can Pony.ai partner with Google's Waymo for simulations potentially - and in combination with Toyota's? Thanks, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org

Scott MacLeod4:25 PM (0 minutes ago)to yujie.zhuDear Yujie,
Thanks for your edifying UC Berkeley TSWG talk - "Memory, Homecoming and the Politics of Diaspora Tourism in China" -
http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?m=1103050552852&ca=08429bba-d487-462d-990b-014019adbf57

With your mentioning Dean MacCannell's work on authenticity, - a theory I'd suggest which emerges from a modernist approach to Tourism Studies - and your also mentioning "staged authenticity" with regard to a postmodern approach to interpreting tourism, I'm curious, regarding my information technology question, and case example of Richard Peng, autonomous vehicles in China, and Google's Waymo into a realistic virtual earth for tourism (my project), how the information age as a new condition (beyond modernity post-modernity, and advertising discourse - see paper) might inform an interpretation of "Memory, Homecoming and the Politics of Diaspora Tourism in China"? I explore some of these ideas here in a 2000 'theoretical' paper I wrote in Nelson Graburn's "Tourism, Art and Modernity" UC Berkeley course -"Gazing at the Box: Tourism in the Context of the Internet and Globalization (Internetity)"
 http://scottmacleod.com/anth250v.htm
In all of these regards, I might explore developing new definitions of internet 'authenticity' - eg seeing/engaging in bodymind paintings in the Louvre museum in person (Dean MacCannell, thanks to the touristic guidebook in part), vs. seeing them on the internet in a virtual Louvre in a myriad of new ways). In what ways is authenticity a helpful concept in your heritage research, Yujie? Would the information age as a condition informing interpretations of tourism yield different approaches than MacCannell's modernity approach, Urry's staged authenticity re post-modernity,, questions of authenticity regarding advertising discourse (Thurot and Thurot - see my paper), and newly what I'm calling internetity' where conditions emerging thanks to the internet and information age encompass and supersede previous approaches in tourism studies to this key concept?

Per my question to you, and 'case example' (of James Peng, his Pony.ai and Google's Waymo data) and RoboTaxis, the idea re Xi'an and Kazakhstan and Muslim ethnic minorities' tourism, with their own languages, would be how they and all of us might shape this single realistic virtual earth, new data, and for heritiage studies, history, and so much more, and via a new social science method I'm calling 'ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - and for their and our own academic studies, tourism studies' wise, heritage wise, and regarding the virtual. Here's the example I shared (at the online University I'm creating in all ~200 countries, their official & main languages, and in all 7,117 known languages, emerging from CC-4 MIT OCW in its 4 languages, and as wiki, in initially Wikipedia's 300 languages) -
LiDAR
https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1056927933556711424?s=20 -

In ways could we convert these LiDAR images, for example, of people into avatar bots (think Samsung Neons, aka 'artificial humans') of your anthropological touristic subjects, - and even for further research, and in a single realistic virtual earth we all create (almost as an emergent library and museum all in one - am thinking Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, and the virtual world and data created too by Google's Waymo in the USA, China, Kazakhstan + ).
As Nelson mentioned, I'll be giving a TSWG talk about this in December, with a tentative title of
"Creating a realistic virtual earth for tourism and tourism studies with actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs: A Case Study"

Thank you for your edifying talk, Yujie. Looking forward to staying in communication, and would welcome reading any thoughts you might have about the above in relation to your talk, the information age theoretically for tourism studies, and your heritage studies approach to tourism.
Best regards, ScottMore about a realistic virtual earth in my daily blog and in particular about James Peng and Stanford Professor Richard Dasher's recent conversation: https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/10/google-earth-what-is-realistic-virtual.html

A bright gold star for you, Taylor, in playing 'The Company's Lament" (a first, in a firmament of stars of Piobaireachd and Ceol Beag, little Scottish 'energy centers,'  and where virtuosic Stuart Liddell plays his oft-played, old favorites like 'My Home' so brightly, - and music we create beyond this, Gordon Duncan-wise, for example, but in so so many other ways).
What I appreciated much is your playing of it in a relaxed and slow way (and per Ma and Marsalis - http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm - and I could write something similarly for each of these 12 approaches to playing a musical instrument), and your learning of the Piobaireachd as a musical form, from the online resources. Great learning, and musical expression in playing your  first Piobarieachd ever, and 'in recital,' (and in video conferencing!)
Appreciatively musically, Scott
PSreturning to language first to explore 'classical music' ideas regarding Piobaireachd, or Ceòl mór:
classical - "(typically of a form of art) regarded as representing an exemplary standard; traditional and long-established in form or style: a classical ballet"

music - "vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion"

Ceòl beag or SSP light music -

folk - "relating to the traditional art or culture of a community or nation"
(from the Apple dictionary on my MacBook Air laptop:)
(but perhaps we can pipe these linguistic distinctions out of the air:)
... and yet your Piobaireachd playing of an exemplary standard was wonderful, and regarding how understanding what classical music is can inform playing :)

Looking forward to your playing The Company's Lament tomorrow evening.

Excellent "The Company's Lament" this evening, Taylor!

Loved it, and thank you FOR PLAYING IT.

"MacIntosh's Banner" thru the Crunluath Singling (fingering movement) for next week ...
The Glasgow Police Pipers at 110 bpm + 120 bpm ...

And what makes Piobaireachd a classical music (and not)?
What is a classical music (am thinking Carnatic music from India, in addition to Western Classical Music) and how might this knowledge inform playing beautiful Piobaireachd even (and re it as a classical music from a Scottish way of thinking too:)
Super 'TCL' :) [image error]

Dearest Sister Yogini Angela Angelina, and Brother Yogi Victor VAN Kooten-ini, friends,

Having visited this Onsen 竹取亭円山 有馬温泉湯めぐりVR https://youtu.be/X6YBetANDUI  on my smartphone for the first time ever recently, and found the little mask icon on it from smartphone, and pressed it, I wondered how I could get Google Cardboard mask, or a digital mask which wouldn't melt in a bathtub, and slip my smartphone in it and take your Embodiment Conference Yoga class even, and hands free for more embodying movement than from in front of a laptop. Thank you for experimenting with this embodiment Yoga course which my computer says is accessible for another 15 hours, and which begins around the 30 minute mark - https://portal.theembodimentconference.org/sessions/between-body-and-soul-fa81j5

One thing I love about your Yoga, and especially traveling to where you're teaching, whether it be near Molyvos on Lesvos in Greece, or in Oregon, is how embodying your Yoga explorations are ... and I caught a taste of this in your Embodiment Conference video, but not as deeply as in person in real life (which isn't as easy these days with COVID-19, but getting to Greece hasn't ever been that easy from USA:).

So thank you for your adventures into the web world in internet land, and recording classes anew - which I realize you had said you weren't going to do, so am appreciating your flexibility in these regards much, ... and especially to be able to feel into my body with your guidance from Greece virtually - just now!

After further courses - yet created for and explored in perhaps Google Cardboard with Angela's guidance in feeling into one's inner body in all kinds of ways esp. when you're standing +, Angela when Victor is teaching, and vice versa (like in the above video) - it might be great to head on to visit Virtual Harbin Hot Onsen ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/hashtag/VirtualHarbin?src=hashtag_click ~ or the Eftalou Hamam Hot Spring near your Eftalou, Lesvos, Greece, near Molyvos, Yoga Hall (this too) in digital masks for inner body embodiment bathtub meditation explorations, like we've done before in Harbin or Eftalou's springs!

Am assuming that those who sign up with the Embodiment Conference will eventually be able to take your class :)

Assuming too that you haven't in this class invited people in it to head into their bathtubs afterwards, and to don Google Cardboard with their smartphone in it in order to visit Harbin or Eftalou Hot Springs for #VirtualSoaking in a #RealisticVirtualHarbin at #HarbinHotSprings in #HarbinWarmPools or in #EftalouHotSprings - like you do in earthly life ... and for further inner body releasing!

Happy Yoga!

Thank you for experimenting with this embodiment Yoga course which my computer says is accessible for another 15 hours, and which begins around the 30 minute mark - https://portal.theembodimentconference.org/sessions/between-body-and-soul-fa81j5 .

Ma,

How nice to get two emails from you this morning, as you pack for your trip to Ligonier, PA!
As I was watching newly an Angela & Victor Yoga video class from Greece (for the LA based but online Embodiment Conference), and bagpiping-wise, it occurs to me that I'd like to record the Piobaireachd "The Company's Lament," - as a kind of teaching even - and send it to Taylor before tomorrow's lesson when he's doing an e-recital of same piece. We're getting into learning performance :)
(Am not sure if this means that I'm teaching SSP performance, - like Juilliard and Curtis Music Schools, et al. teach (individual instruments as well as esp.) "Performance" ... but I may be heading in this direction in conceiving of my teaching even:)
I don't think however that I'm going to include any Piobaireachd on my upcoming "Honey in the Bag" Scottish Small Pipes' album - not planning to do so.
More later about the move - much to today, including heading over to get another load today, and this week - and have a great trip to Ligonier with Chris!
With what you said last night on the phone, I'm wondering if I'm beginning to hear the language or 'memes' of Longwood" in your saying "I gotta get out of here" :) (Your appreciative son is also a linguistically oriented anthropologist:).
Love, Scott

WUaS is partnering with edX and the edX Online Campus for $17,450 for 50 students, for unlimited enrollments, for 1 year, and so our WUaS matriculated students can take edX verified courses (https://support.edx.org/hc/en-us/articles/360013426573-What-are-the-differences-between-audit-free-and-verified-paid-courses- ).

WUaS is seeking 50-400 students beginning in January, is seeking to fundraise for this, and to develop relationships with nation states' departments of education, their states' and their counties' departments of education, in all ~200 countries, for courses first in English, then toward free-to-students' online degrees in each of all ~200 countries' main and official languages.

1

WUaS is seeking a coder or programmer, perhaps from Google itself, to develop the WUaS G Suite for Education - https://admin.google.com/ - for our WUaS matriculating undergraduate program this January 2021, as well as for planning coding for reimbursement from all ~200 countries (and even, brainstorming-wise for WUaS coding for all 7.8 billion people on planet).

WUaS would then give for heads of WUaS in many countries the WUaS G Suite for Education /edX verified courses' link with which to reach out to students in their countries, with an emphasis on the quality of WUaS free-to-students' CC-4 OCW-centric online degrees beginning with edX verified courses.
For example, in these countries, first in English, then with online free degrees in their languages -
Sri Lanka WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sri_Lankahttps://sites.google.com/view/worlduniversityandschool/srilanka(eventually in the Sinhala language - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sinhala_language)
Iran WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Iran_(Islamic_Republic_of)Farsi - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Persian_language
Poland WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Poland(eventually in the Polish language - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages)
Greece WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Greece(eventually in the Greek language - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Greek_language)
Germany WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Germany(eventually in German - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/German_language)
Peru WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Peru(eventually in Spanish, Quechua and Aymara + - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Spanish_language)
India WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/India(eventually in the Hindi - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hindi_language - and the 22 scheduled or official languages in India)
Scotland WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Scotland(later perhaps in Scots' Gaelic - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic_language)
USA WUaS -https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/United_States_of_America(https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/English_language and the other 350 languages spoken in the USA)

2

WUaS Medical Schools online (item on Agenda)

WUaS will consider these 4 items at a future monthly business meeting, or similar, since WUaS is planning for our online Medical Schools in all ~200 countries' official and main languages to begin in and after 4 years from now in full, and after matriculating our first accrediting undergraduate Bachelors' degree class, then Ph.D. class, then Law class (and then MD class), first in English, as well as I.B. high school class.

3

WUaS in WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki (with WUaS Wikidata as a back end structured knowledge database)

It looks like WUaS wiki users, teachers and learners can newly develop an end user ID by editing a page, which may lead to WUaS being able to plan for and code for 7.8 billion secure user IDs for WUaS wiki teachers and learners as Universitians, and everyone, at You at WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - eventually planning for up to an estimated 11 billion, (for all people on the planet in the next 100 years). See this WUaS Agenda item for example.

4WUaS is expanding and developing additional majors, to complement our existing planned majors of EECS, Gen. Science, Gen. Engineering, English, History, Business - initially, and for undergraduates.
In addition, and newly with edX verified courses, WUaS is seeks to offer engaging and relevant tracks within majors, such as a 'WUaS Computer Gaming' track in our EECS major, and a WUaS Home Robotics' track with our General Engineering major.

For example, this could include a track beginning newly with the HarvardX course: CS50's Introduction to Game Developmenthttps://www.edx.org/course/cs50s-introduction-to-game-development ;
https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Gaming_-_Digital

And some new WUaS Open edX courses developed from CC-4 MIT OCW's Lego Robotics:

https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Robotics

5

Scott MacLeod will postpone teaching the free open and potentially in WUaS Open edX as a verified course - "The Network Society, Information Technology and the Global University" until 2021.

WUaS seeks 'officially' to begin to sell WUaS Lego robotics - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html (listed on our web pages) - in other countries, besides the USA, and both online and on-the-ground, in combination with our WUaS-edX course and degree roll out.

C

WUaS seeks to proceed with facilitating a single cryptocurrency distributed via UBI experiments in most of all of ~200 countries - to alleviate poverty - and with Wikidata PIN #s for all 7.8 billion WUaS wiki teachers and learners.

D

WUaS will consider these 4 items at a future monthly business meeting, or similar, since WUaS is planning for our online Medical Schools in all ~200 countries' official and main languages to begin in 4 years, after matriculating our first accrediting undergraduate Bachelors' degree class, then Ph.D. class, then  Law class.

WUaS in WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki (with Wikidata as a back end structured knowledge database)

It looks like WUaS wiki users, teachers and learners can newly develop an end user ID by editing a page, which may lead to WUaS being able to plan for and code for 7.8 billion secure user IDs for WUaS wiki teachers and learners at You at WUaS - - eventually up to an estimated 11 billion, for all people on the planet in the next 100 years.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for sharing with me your communication results of the business meeting. I’m surprised if at this initial stage of work as a non-profit, the university is agreeing to pay me! Before, I respond to your first question, I need to ask you a few questions for my better understanding of the work goals.
As a 4-year program, is this going to give an official degree to the students who join for free? And, is their degree acceptable later for the job market and in the US or globally in general? This is a bit confusing to me. Who is funding this program? How many students are going to be there? Has there be any Iranians willing to join so far due to the crazy condition of US-Iran conflicts? And thousands of other similar questions because I really don’t know what the purpose is for this program and where is it going overall.
Regarding my connections, I know university professors in Iran (mostly in the Architecture department) and some individual PhD friends who are in the Language and Literature programs already. Some are working in cultural institutions and 1-2 of them have jobs in the municipality. I don’t have any strong or state related connections. I have no connections or attachments to the federal government or political organizations. I don’t dare to even get close to them.
I am personally a pro free education type of person and would love to participate in an academic field (particularly in relation to Iranian Studies). I can initially spend about 2-4 hours per week to work in case things are going on well. But first of all, I need to know more about this. Why are my connections important in Iran? And, how are they going to join this organization? What benefits does this joint work have for them. How should they be convinced? And, why? What would be the purpose of getting a degree for the students who are going to join from Iran? Those people are trying to find ways to leave the country, and not just working with an online institution. In case, they join, and spend 4 years to get their degrees, how would the degree benefit them regarding their future job market or their connection to the global job fair? There are never ending questions in my mind Scott.
By the way, who is currently working with you? are there other hired people? Who are they? Can we connect through Linkedin?
So, let me know. :) Thanks.
Btw, the picture was very nice! What a memorable day it was fo me! Thank you for sending it. :)
Best, Shahrzad

Dear Shahrzad, (and World Universitians),
Thanks so much for your email, Shahrzad. Regarding your questions, WUaS's monthly business meeting, and my first question -
"I was curious, for example, how much you think you'd be interested in earning, if you moved into such a role? ($36,000 per year, for 2 hours of work a week?, $100,000 per year, for 40 hours per week - are some thoughts that came to my mind)" -

World Univ & Sch is exploring how to begin hiring, with no money in the bank to speak of whatsoever (am attaching the non-profit September MBM Finance report again), and FYI, I've been volunteering for about 14 years, as has Larry Viehland (chair of the Board) - and WUaS hasn't hired anyone so far.

To your questions:
"As a 4-year program, is this going to give an official degree to the students who join for free?"
WUaS is partnering officially with edX (founded by MIT and Harvard) as WUaS begins to license and accredit newly on verified edX courses with BPPE and WASC senior (which accredits UC Berkeley, the other UCs and Stanford +)https://twitter.com/CaBPPE
https://twitter.com/wascsenior
Both the new WUaS partnering with edX Online Campus, as well as planning to license, and accrediting, with edX's 3,000 verified courses are new. (And WUaS continues to be CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric, which 'non-commercial' licensing terms say WUaS can't ask for tuition from students, and WUaS students will study from MIT OCW > MITx courses where applicable).

"And, is their degree acceptable later for the job market and in the US or globally in general?"
So WUaS online seeks to be accredited like Stanford and UC Berkeley on the ground, and which accredited degrees have career value on the job market both in the US and in other countries.
Who is funding this program? WUaS is continuing to seek funding. What's new now is that WUaS is partnering with edX and we have some dollar figures which WUaS can pay to edX for their verified courses, as we then seek to hire faculty and staff to create potentially more WUaS courses (from CC-4 MIT OCW, for ex.), eventually on the WUaS Open edX platform (which is completely separate from edX - via MOOC IT France, an edX service provider, for ex., as well as help grow WUaS student body for free-to-students' Bachelor's degrees, first in English via edX verified courses.
"How many students are going to be there?"  WUaS is seeking to have 50-400 English speaking students beginning in January 2021, from all ~200 countries in the world.
"Has there been any Iranians willing to join so far due to the crazy condition of US-Iran conflicts?"
Not yet - and I'm only otherwise in touch with Iran Studies at Stanford University, and with possibly a few other Iranians on the WUaS email list.
I'll respond to your 2nd set of questions (below) soon. Would you like to join the WUaS Monday News, Q&A and Livestream sometime - and to reach out to Iranian colleagues too?
Best,Scott

Scott MacLeod <sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org>11:20 AM (1 hour ago)to Shahrzad, Larry, Peter, Jayni, Kyle, Juan, tito, Yuping-CASPA, IulianHi Shahrzad,
To respond to your 2nd group of questions,

"Why are my connections important in Iran?" I had the impression from your email that you might be able to fundraise from your connections in Iran - and for matriculating undergraduate Iranian students who speak English - and that in this initial bootstrapping phase for WUaS, WUaS also might therefore come into the money with which to hire you.
Also, WUaS is seeking eventually for departments of education to reimburse World Univ & Sch for matriculating students (since they're already funding education in Iran, for ex.,) - so your connections could lead to further Iran-WUaS collaborations in this.
"And, how are they going to join this organization?"For students to join - that is to matriculate at WUaS, and to study from their homes (first in English) - they will register in some combination of WUaS G Suite for Education for verified edX courses with a 7,117 known living languages' Wiki University for languages ID system, from here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ .
While I can also add prospective students from Iran, and your contacts, to WUaS Monthly Business Meeting (emailings) in which they can participate, share organizing and ideas, and ask questions, think in terms of joining WUaS regarding both your studying at UC Berkeley, as well as joining Wikipedia in its 300 languages (where users get an ID).
"What benefits does this joint work have for them? How should they be convinced? And, why?" a) Students will be able to study for free-to-students' CC-4 MIT OCW-centric into MITx on the verified edX platform Bachelor 4-year degrees, by matriculating.
b) WUaS Wiki participants - like in Wikipedia in its 300 languages - will get the benefit of volunteering, and toward the WUaS mission of free open teaching and learning. (And, like Wikipedia, in 300 languages, WUaS will hire some of these people too).
c) WUaS will also hire Iranian academics and staff first in English, then in Farsi - so careers and remunerations could convince them.

"What would be the purpose of getting a degree for the students who are going to join from Iran?" Like getting a degree from UC Berkeley, on-the-ground and in English, and then returning to Iran, and then with this knowledge, developing their careers in Iran (which you didn't do, but many Iranians have, I'd think), WUaS will eventually offer the 5 degrees we're planning in Farsi too.
"In case they join, and spend 4 years to get their degrees, how would the degree benefit them regarding their future job market or their connection to the global job fair?"WUaS seeks to plan our majors - and Larry is working on expanding our WUaS Majors beyond the 6 current ones, thanks to WUaS partnering newly with edX for verified courses - for careers (and edX has this focus too) ... and eventually Iran WUaS in Farsi will focus this even further.
"By the way, who is currently working with you?" "are there other hired people? Who are they?" Larry Viehland is the most regular participant in the open WUaS Monthly Business Meeting, and WUaS hasn't hired yet.
"Can we connect through Linkedin?"
https://www.linkedin.com/in/shahrzad-shirvani/
You'll find the Board of Trustees + here, and below, with many  of theirLinkedIns :https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Foundation

Your questions make me appreciate your enthusiasm for World Univ & Sch, Shahrzad - thank you! Does this answer most of your questions, and the sense behind your questions too?
And please let me know if you can help find Iranian English-speaking students to take verified edX courses at WUaS in January, as well as your thoughts about fundraising among your Iranian contacts, - and your thoughts too about developing your academic career at MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch in these regards.

Best,

Scott:

So, I attempted to make the following video newly again using StreamYard (since Jitsi and 8X8 video conference-to-Youtube platforms stopped working for free), but it (S.Y.) didn't stream or record to WUaS's 2nd WUaS LiveStream channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdURAADdLc9ctxnbismtXzQ ... (accessible from - https://www.youtube.com/user/WorldUnivandSch)

I was however able to download the 14:21 minute video I made - WUaS Partnering with edX (Verified Courses), Seeking 50-400 online students in Jan 2021 from all _20.mp4 - to my local computer, but it's too big a file to upload to this blogspot blog ... so I'm including Shahrzad Shirvani's questions, and my answers below ...
