Hi Sri, and All,I just signed up with both (edX & Mine Pi) successfully, initially, and, on smartphone - minepi.com/sgkmac (using telephone number and passport name, and address) - and have earned .25 Pi currency, or similar, in Mine Pi ... will return tomorrow at 4pm (adding to calendar even) to hit the button again for another .25 Pi, as Mine Pi develops, and as I explore - and regarding World University and School especially.
I hope a single cryptocurrency will be a way to alleviate poverty worldwide ... for the poorest people among all 7.8 billion people.
Thank you, Scott- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/11/fruit-dove-genetic-engineering-with.html -

Hi All ...
In these regards,
I just shared the following with my high school best friend's mother (and Partha in these email thread is Siddartha's younger brother), and family:
Mrs. Mazumdar, Pin, Marti, Pat, Ma, Tym, Mr. Mazumdar, All,
Here's a new cryptocurrency, Stanford's "Mine Pi" digital currency, and you can begin mining it (with algorithms) today and everyday and earn "Pi" - later convertible into fiat / cash. Happy Birthday and Happy Thanksgiving. And the head of WUaS in Sri Lanka just emailed this morning saying it was under development (and I had tried to sign up for "Mine Pi" in September 2019 with an old smartphone, unsuccessfully) - and the sign up process went well yesterday. A statistical wonderland, Mrs. Mazumdar (who's a statistician) - how can we plan for all 7.8 billion people on the planet - in all ~200 countries - and perhaps on bank cards or similar for the folks in 300,000 people refugee camps in east Africa for example?
I just signed up with Mine Pi successfully, initially, and, on smartphone - minepi.com/sgkmac (using telephone number and passport name, and address, etc. - and please use my user name as a reference code, or Rifai's) - and have earned .25 Pi currency, or similar, in Mine Pi ... will return today at 4pm PT, which is 24 hours after I signed up yesterday, (and I added to my calendar even) to hit the 'Mine Pi' button again for another .25 Pi (what Harvard Professor BF Skinner behaviorism experimental potential is there here? :)), as Mine Pi develops, and as I explore it - and regarding World University and School especially, and even regarding WUaS seeking to alleviate poverty among the poorest of the 7.8 billion people.
We can also learn in new ways about the power of networks here, re this information technology (and re a course I teach on the Network Society - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - and hope to teach again in 2021 freely, and online!). But please remember this digital cryptocurrency isn't worth very much at all - yet. :)
I hope a single cryptocurrency will be a way to alleviate poverty worldwide ... and Happy Birthday, Marti and Pat! :)
Friendly regards, Scott- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/11/fruit-dove-genetic-engineering-with.html -
Co-op coin images (Co-op coinage - also called scrip - is one of the main ideas here, where a Co-operative legal entity creates their own money, but eventually WUaS seeks to make available a single cryptocurrency backed by central banks of most of ~200 countries, and in their official languages, and fiat or cash is authorized money, defined as "a formal authorization or proposition; a decree" - so for example, from central banks : )

2 steps forward, 1 step back
Well I thought we'd be working on all 29 majors newly with unfolding edX partnering - thanks to your helpful recent update ... worlduniversityandschool.org and with the recent installation of the WUaS Database Wikibase by Houcemeddine (Abdelwaheb Turki) et moi ... but it seems like we're taking a step back to the 6 majors (thanks to your planning a few years ago re WUaS CC-4 MIT OCW courses) ... in these recent major '2 steps forward, 1 step back' developments. Abdelwaheb seems to be riding, metaphorically, a fine Arabian maverick low on the side, and also, metaphorically, seems to excel in the 'engine room' of WUaS Wikibase databases in so many ways. And there are about 27 out of 206 countries (per the Olympics) where Arabic is the official language ... so I'm glad he didn't recuse himself. Am also glad Lydia, Markus and Denny may be having a glance at our emerging multilingual database too, and that Larry Michalak (a Berkeley Anthropology faculty member, with whom I went on Semester at Sea with in 2005) has Tunisia as his field site, and has colleagues and friends at University of Sfax in Tunisia where Abdelwaheb is based.
Would be great if Abdelwaheb could enter the WUaS Medical School in some years; however credential-wise I think he has only a high school Baccalaureate degree from a Tunisian Baccalaureate high school (and not I.B.), since I don't think he's finished his undergraduate studies at the University of Sfax ... but he seems to have got the innards of Wikibase down, and speaks 4 languages (also Italian and French) :) Perhaps he could get a Bachelor's degree first at WUaS as he creates the course catalog database ... (since we decided in WUaS monthly business meeting to accept transfer students with Tanya ) ... How's your Arabic in reading a Tunisian undergraduate transcript?
Am not sure what other identity questions (re Anthropology / Sociology analyses) will emerge, but he's never yet been to the Ramallah Friends School (Quaker) in Ramallah Palestine (founded in 1869 or so), and fairly recently an I.B. school, taught in Arabic and English. His north African base in Tunisia would make him very relevant for the whole African continent too, but possibly not in the Swahili language.
Two Edinburgh higher educational events on Monday at 10am Pacific Time - 1) Fettes College high school, also I.B., and possibly re WUaS outreach for our free college, and @) University of Edinburgh Medical School debate, and re our online Medical Schools, possibly specific to Scotland in the future ... and I haven't' decided what to do with the WUaS News, Q&A on Monday at 10 am Pacific Time, when I first met recently at length last week with Houcemeddine ...
2 steps forward, 1 step back
Sincerely, Scott

Hi Pat and Marti, Mr. and Mrs. Mazumdar and All,
Thanks so much Mr. and Mrs. Mazumdar for your emails just now.
Here's a related birthday idea to alleviate poverty and via UBI experiments, worldwide, to distribute a single cryptocurrency, and by planning to code for all 7.8 billion people on the planet -
In seeking to create major online universities in all ~200 countries in https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States & WIKI schools in all 7117 living languages,
@WorldUnivAndSch
seeks too to code for 7.8 Billion people #WikidataQitem # #SingleCryptocurrency via #UBIexperiments re #DataGovernanceAct ~
https://twitter.com/TheOpenBand/status/1332356424077242368?s=20
All 7.8 billion living people would get a Wikidata Q-item # for both editing / adding to their own genetics, and regarding a single mineable cryptocurrency (like Mine Pi), backed by most of ~ 200 countries' central banks (but not possibly by Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, England, - if the Euro is a model adopted by 19 out of 28 nation states in the EU currently). And initially for these 5 reasons - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/20... - and Season's Greetings, too! :)
Warm regards, Scott

Dear Ma, Sandy, Kate, Scott, Annie, Tim, Cathy and Steve and Alden,
So nice to visit with you, - and with you Sandy especially!
Sorry I didn't have a way to increase the focal length of my laptop computer - a little clip on to a laptop's camera for laptop tour guide reasons even? - to be able to show you the Golden Gate Bridge view, and new mast & rigging architecture of the Bay Bridge+ ... (perhaps using a smartphone would have been a good idea) in the mini tour in my new place.
Alden, and All ... re the other "Happy Birthday, Alden! :)" thread today, and aging reversal ... here below saying Google extended it's calendar 1000 years is the brilliant Tufts' University Anthropology professor Nick Seaver (who went to Yale as an undergrad, UC Irvine for Ph.D., studies anthropology of computing / algorithms, and his wife is a PhD in Genomics in Boston area) -
So I ask - genetic engineering with Google until the year 2,999?

Ma, do you think hygiene has improved by leaps and bounds, in your new home, because of Covid-19 compared with before your move in, and now in the past 8 months?
Do you think Covid-19 might ALSO be bioterrorism preparation, in addition to gene management?

Good morning, Ma, and happy upcoming Thanksgiving!
I invited Ed and his family over for Thanksgiving, but they won't come. Nice to be touch and hear back further from him about N too. In...
A little bit of cabin fever yesterday, am glad to be making headway on my educational project's database for course selection for students for January. Meeting with Houcemeddine in Tunisia again at 10 this morning.
On with the MBM Minutes (probably around Dec 1 2020), upcoming POETRY BOOK and PIPING ALBUM. I may explore first recording my album from home and to Bandcamp (simply by uploading tracks -https://scottmacleodhoneyinthebagscottishsmallpipesbagpiping.bandcamp.com/
- before December 4 on which day they waive the 15% they take otherwise when my musical recordings are bought, and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search?q=Bandcamp&m=1. (Then friends could potentially buy some digital recordings, and I'd get all of the money, rather than ~85% of the money). THIS 12/4 DATE PROVIDES BOTH A GOAL TO POST THESE MY SCOTTISH SMALL PIPING RECORDINGS, AND A RUN THROUGH BEFORE COMMITTING TO THE COST OF STUDIO TIME TO CD RECORDING. (Or maybe even Bandcamp will eventually facilitate creating a CD or recording to other physical media in the future). It's interesting recording as a solo musician, re a kind of isolation - where a sense of fans or CREATING paying audience could transform this sense of isolation. Can Bandcamp I.T. make such community building for my small piping possible in a brand new way, since it's free otherwise for artists to post? C'est possible! ... And a good dress rehearsal ...
Getting into and thinking through the psychology of being a SSP musician (poetry book writer too) and new possibilities thanks to Web.
GREAT TO REVISIT MY POETRY FROM 2012-2013 as I bring this my next upcoming book to fruition (and pay for the costs of publishing it in the WUaS Press) ... recordings per re - https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity ...
It's lovely poetry of Harbin and Cuttyhunk and India, and so much more + re the experience of being there :)
Do I want to create larger communities as well as (paying) audiences for WUaS, SSP album, next poetry book, re an internal sense of not knowing how? It's all possible newly on WEB and re my own conflicts about this creative process, psychology of goal achievement, and growing (artistic and learning) communities for these - and feeling like I'm connecting in the process ... (George Alexander's thinking about individualism AND AGENCY - choice or action or intentional causation - come to mind here too).
APPRECIATING Ma your wonderful card saying "you are brave bold kind proud courageous fierce strong determined inspiring loved" :) (with echoes too for me of J.K.) ... As I navigate here in writing too questions of psychology, and fruitfully a bit.
Larger communities for the above? What kinds of communities? What qualities? And newly via the Web I wonder - in what ways? Would a partner be part of this developing community? Hmmm ... :)
See you all - family community :) - at 10 a on Thursday for > 40 minutes.
Love, Scott
Hi Ed, would you and your family like to come over for a mostly outside, socially distanced, masked Thanksgiving this Thursday around 2. It looks like the temperature will be around 66 in the afternoon, and I'll have prepared a vegetarian turkey (like last time) but this time with Dutch potatoes and celery, a salad, and maybe some other yummies, including coffee ice cream and pumpkin pie. There are 8 chairs outside too. ... inside the hospital (which in a very serious epidemic could be one of the worst places on the planet to be:) ... but if this is a coronavirus pandemic, masks and social-distancing could work well. Cheers, Scott
Scott:It might be more sensible too to wait until Covid-19 threat is past, Ed (whatever kind of IN CASE OF EMERGENCY threat it is, I'll posit ... am amazed by the dearth of newspaper articles about US bioterrorism preparedness developments in recent months!) Thoughts? :) Happy Thanksgiving! Fondly, Scott
Ed:I was puzzling over your gracious invitation. I think it would be awkward.
Ed: More later. Nice too to see a picture of N...!
Scott: Sounds good! [image error]

Would you consider exploring teaching Yoga streaming forth from MIT Medical, Angela and Victor? (And do you get bored when you explore taking other Yogini's classes, like Zan Barry's or is it Berry Zone , or Very Zen Berry? :)
ScottSimilarly, the very bottom image here of the Harbin Hot Springs' Gate ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg (~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBook ~) is a virtual world too in Street View (best viewed on a laptop screen rather than a smartphone), and while we still can't enter into Harbin itself virtually for soaking or for a Yoga course with you, we can explore 'walking' down the 'road' 4 miles to wander around Middletown, CA, which is not nearly as beautiful as Molyvos (but Harbin seems like it's getting beautiful again)... and where this Street View virtual earth is growing like a living ecosystem or organism, and we're all the gardeners, as well as Yoga nurturers. (Am realizing on Lesvos, internet connectivity may be lacking ... and these Yoga and Harbin worlds are all worth exploring with decent broadband connectivity:)

Angela and Victor Yoga course "The Light That Hides in Darkness" upcoming ...
The Light That Hides in Darkness *https://everymomentprecious.com/shop/product/the-light-that-hides-in-darkness-online-course-november-29-december-20Greetings dear friends and students,
We would like to invite you to a special offering this cycle . . .
Down into the underworld! . . . at the perfect time of the year, as we are spinning towards the shortest day and longest night (in the northern hemisphere).
Beginning on the eve of the full moon (November 29) and culminating on the eve of the winter solstice (December 20), we will journey together into the darkest time of the year, as we dive deep into our own underworld to uncover parts of ourselves that hid in terror, or got lost and forgotten. What evolves from this exploration invariably brings us to a sense of wholeness and presence in our lives.
For those of you living ‘Down Under’ . . . moving towards the longest day and most sun-light of the year can be an equally deep and even scary experience ... birthing out of the safe, dark womb into bright hospital lighting . . . for example. Your journey is the same . . . for in our cells we hide so much, even though all is bright on the outside!
There will be a different theme each week, shared 3 days before each class, that you can think about, explore, and play with in your practice and everyday experiences.
Tia has set up a private Facebook group where we can, if moved to do so, share, ask questions, send in little writings, poems, drawings, photos connected with, or evolving out of the theme and what we personally discover.
On Sundays, each of the four weeks leading up to solstice, we shall have a class. Hopefully it is at a time that is not impossible for you or you can of course join via the recording anytime. During the class we shall go more deeply into the theme through the practice so that each of you finds something truly personal in your own process, and then we have three more days for comments, questions, and sharing of our experience and creativity, before announcing the next week’s theme. We have lengthened the classes to allow more time for guided meditation, breath and inner work.
When you register you will immediately receive an audio recording of the myth of Inanna's journey into the underworld.
I believe that in meeting ourselves authentically and powerfully as we move through, open up, and clear out debris of the past, we come to the essence of a yoga practice. I look forward a lot to this journey with you all!Now here is Tia with more details . . .
Love and sparks of Delight!
Angela
Live classes on Sundays November 29th- December 20th (6pm Greece, 5pm Europe, 4pm UK, 11am USA EST, 8am USA PST) Find the time in your zone. Or via recordings at your convenience.
Four 1-hour and 45 minute classes plus unlimited access to the recordings for 1 week from each class, private Facebook group with daily postings, weekly emails with themes, additional audio recordings and offerings throughout the course. $145

"If we ignore our inner underworld, as is happening now in our human world, everything gets worse. People are waking up to what is happening in our human underworld and seeing the danger of ignoring the suffering and pain that too many people have because the upper world has become too powerful, too controlling. Every time we attend to our own inner underworld, we have the energy and insight for how we can put a little dew drop on a small part of the planet’s underworld, the human underworld, and that helps us to feel more whole, more powerful, more clear. But we can only do this when we have done it inside ourselves; allowed ourselves to meet something that feels like a pain but turns out it's a holding over, an emotional fear, anxiety, memory that we are now ready to meet."

Thanks so much for offering these "The Light That Hides in the Darkness" Yoga courses - https://everymomentprecious.com/shop/product/the-light-that-hides-in-darkness-online-course-november-29-december-20 - from 11/29-12/20/20, on Sundays, and everyday in a new Yoga modality! Way out of my price range, I'm grateful you're offering them nevertheless - and online! I have found this free online 'MIT Medical' Yoga class on Thanksgiving Day Th 11/26 (and maybe beyond) - by registering with MIT Medical as an affiliate, but at 7am in the morning that day in the SF Bay Area - early! I'm unfamiliar with the Wellness Instructor who is teaching this Yoga class, Susanna (Zan) Barry - https://medical.mit.edu/community/wellness/instructors/susanna-zan-barry - but appreciating the focus on wellness! Am appreciative also of MIT's thinking approach to some aspects of life, and will see what comes up inner body exploration-wise! :) Thank you!

Thanks for attending the WUaS News and Q&A on Monday, Houcemeddine, and for talking for about 1.25 hours. I'm writing to offer to share with you the hosting information for our computer server for - worlduniversityandschool.org - per our conversation, and if that would be helpful. Thanks too for saying you think you might be able to have the beginnings of a new WUaS web site with a Wikidata / Wikibase installation in about 2 weeks from last Monday, I think - so Monday November 30th. And thanks also for showing me the University of London website as a kind of template from which to build the new WUaS website, beginning with this updated information -- worlduniversityandschool.org - and our wiki, here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - for example, and potentially for our new 29 majors. Please remember that WUaS is seeking to plan for our matriculating students in all ~200 countries, wiki Universitians in all 7,117 known living languages, and, brainstorming-wise, wiki teachers and learners among all 7.8 billion people on the planet with time. And WUaS is seeking to retain our students' names, contact information, registrations and similar, even as we partner with edX, and potentially each a Wikidata Q-item # or related forked Wikidata Pin #, and for accreditation and licensing purposes in the state of California, among the 5 reasons I've already shared with you - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html - to begin. WUaS is seeking to matriculate 50-400 students for free-to-students' Bachelor (licensing and accrediting) degrees beginning in January 2021, so we'd love to get this new WUaS web site development up soon, so we can reach out to the 8 or so heads of WUaS is a variety of countries, in seeking about 50 students from each of their countries who speak English then.
Is there any other information I can provide you potentially? Thank you so so much!
All the best, Scott

Dear Houcemeddine,
Thanks so much, - and your coding plans look good as a starting point, since these 'variables' could be adjusted with time, and I think also that HarvardX and MITx courses will increase in number, and in possible academic majors, with time as well.
I had thought to reply to you with thank you, and include a small group of Peter Norvig, Denny Vrandecic, Lydia Pintscher, Markus Kroetzsch, Matthew Gusching (of edX) and Larry Viehland (chair of the board World University and School) who might be of service or help to you in different ways, but will explore doing so in the future (ie in planning for machine learning, or even in fixing "your data now for when quantum computing is fully ready" - https://twitter.com/rzembo/status/1330280834570579968?s=20 - https://youtu.be/6owgfE2r5Fo - where Robert Zembowicz is the Chief Technology Officer of the great and large Philadelphia-based Vanguard Mutual Fund group, and even for Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments to distribute a single cryptocurrency backed by most central banks, albeit with WUaS starting very small, as you suggest). As WUaS proceeds with planning, brainstorming-wise, for coding for all 7.8 billion people on the planet, each living person not a Wikidata Q-item #, but a related forked Wikidata Pin # or similar, WUaS is also seeking to interoperate with WikiTree, as you may have read in item 4 here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html - (eg https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/MacLeod-2524) with its plans for a SINGLE family tree, presumably of 7.8 billion people, and regarding genetic and avatar bot electronic medical records, information too.
How many academic undergraduate majors might you envision, Houcemeddine, beginning with MITx and HarvardX courses, if not newly our 29 planned majors (based on the 2,550 courses in the edX courses' spreadsheet), or the previous 6 majors?
World Univ & Sch is seeking to matriculate our first undergraduate class beginning in early January 2021 - 50-400 students from all ~200 countries in English -
- https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States (~200)
- https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages (7,117 known living languages)
- and since this is soon, WUaS would be interested in reaching out to large groups of prospective students with a professional online university website fairly soon after M November 30th (and public and private high schools in the USA and around the world could begin to share this website with their students during Covid-19 if it was heading in the direction of becoming WASC accredited and BPPE licensed in the state of California, as we've talked about). Do you think WUaS could begin to reach out to a large group of people about this in early December please?
And will the WUaS wiki Subject pages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - in WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki, with what you suggested updating on Mon. Nov. 16 2020 regarding WUaS Majors and the CC-4 MIT OCW on these pages - become integrated with Wikidata after the Wikibase installation, as OPEN WIKI SCHOOLS (a bit like Wikipedia) too?
So may I share with you the hosting information for our computer server for - worlduniversityandschool.org - per our conversation, and if that would be helpful?
And if you would like to talk further, I'll be in the WUaS News and Q&A tomorrow, Monday, Nov. 23, 2020 at 10 am PT like last week.
Thank you for your incisive thinking, great ideas, and understanding in this next big development for World Univ & Sch (as well as potentially for Wikidata / Wikibase, since WUaS seeks to scale in all 200 countries and all 7117 known living languages, for wiki teachers and learners), and by starting small. Thank you, Houcemeddine!

Dear Houcemeddine, and Larry,
Thanks for your reply, Houcemeddine. I'd like to introduce you and Larry to one another; see your web pages below. Larry is the head of the Academic (Accreditation) Committee at World Univ & Sch (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Foundation), and has been directly involved in all of the past WUaS course catalogs (with 6 majors, based on MIT OCW courses, and most recently 29 majors, based on the edX searchable catalog), and related course development approaches. Thank you, Houcemeddine for offering to install Wikidata / Wikibase for WUaS and potentially regarding academic majors. Thank you too Houcemeddine for suggesting that WUaS focus on MITx and HarvardX courses in our recent WUaS partnership with edX and regarding edX's catalog of ~2500 courses, per your:
" ... I have several proposals concerning the entry requirements and the undergraduate curricula.
Entry Requirements: As WUaS will begin delivering courses in English, it should have a language requirement for the undergraduate students. I propose to have 61 out of 100 in the EF SET Certificate (https://www.efset.org/ef-set-50/) as an entry requirement.Recognized courses: I think that we should put more emphasis on selecting courses delivered by the same institutions to prevent courses' overlapping. I propose that WUaS focus on HarvardX and MITx Courses. When answering this email, please do not send it to many users."
(I've rewritten 1 or 2 of your sentences for clarity, Houcemeddine, for Larry). And your ideas here Houcemeddine - to use HarvardX and MITx courses - may also help with selecting courses with a similar course length.
Thanks, too, Houcemeddine for focusing on ONE specific academic major in your email this morning, Computer Science, in your coding planning for the WUaS Wikidata / Wikibase installation, and using the University of London website (https://london.ac.uk/) as a kind of template for WUaS coding with Wikidata / Wikibase and for our WUAS upcoming majors. Since I think the HarvardX and MITx courses will change in upcoming years a lot, I'd like to focus on just the first years' worth of courses at WUaS at the introductory level.
Larry, what are your thoughts, and what courses would you choose from edX's catalog, and in conversation with Houcemeddine's helpful 4 years' Computer Science program (attached), for our WUaS 1st year undergraduate courses for a CS major?
Similarly, Larry, what 10 courses or so (like MIT OCW courses) would you choose from edX / MITx / HarvardX for the FIRST YEAR for our other 5 majors (back to the initial 6 majors - in this coding planning for the WUaS Wikidata / Wikibase installation), namely, besides EECS, General Science, General Engineering, English literature, History, Business - so Houcemeddine can begin to develop our new WUaS website? Larry, this will allow you to VET the WUaS first year intro courses further as we talked about in the WUaS monthly business meeting on Saturday.
In seeking for WUaS to become world class, I'm particularly looking for a kind of Stanford ethos in courses per former Stanford CS chair Nils Nillson's response to my question (below) at Stanford - and for our WUaS students in January 2021 - over a MIT ethos - and many of our WUaS first year students will be speaking English as a second language too.
"African flower mantis: Romania WUaS A) @WorldUnivAndSch B) @WUaSPress, Online culture at WUaS? - ie. to become world class - I think one of former chair of Stanford CS Nils Nilsson's points is that Stanford CS ADAPTED to what students wanted/what kept their interest, whereas MIT, for example, might not have (see his transcribed text in my blog post), It's a kind of excellence, smart empathy and connecting academically
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2018/05/african-flower-mantis-romania-wuas.html?m=1
Houcemeddine, in your coding planning for the WUaS Wikibase installation, could you please come into conversation with Larry about WUaS's first year of a Computer Science major? I'm seeking too here to set up a communication process re Larry selecting WUaS edX courses, and you Houcemeddine coding the World Univ & Sch website for January 2021. I'll be in the WUaS News and Q&A in an hour to talk further about all of this, if you'd like to talk.
And how is the installation of WUaS Wikibase coming along, Houcemeddine? And when would you need the first year of about 10 15-week long courses in each of the initial WUaS 6 majors for website development from Larry? Thank you so much.
Sincerely, Scott

Dear Houcemeddine and Larry,Thanks for our conversation today.
Per your suggestion, and to begin a WUaS Wikibase installation, I just emailed the following request:
Hi, at Houcemeddine Turki's suggestion, and after video conferencing this morning, I'm writing to apply for an invite code to create a WBStack Instance for WUaS. (Houcemeddine Turki said he met you online at EMWCon Spring 2020 - https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/EMWCon_Spring_2020) . What's the best way, please, to proceed with this? Thank you. Best, Scott

Houcemeddine, the high school degree I mentioned is really the GED or general equivalency degree. But an AP Computer Science high school background is what WUaS would be looking for from US students, partially. (And a Baccalaureat as you were using it, I think, is a high achieving high school degree in most of Europe, and around the world). WUaS is also seeking to begin innovation online IB high schools - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/WUaS_International_Baccalaureate_Diploma_and_Programme - in all ~200 countries and in their official languages with time too, FYI.
Larry, let's begin to put together a list - for coding purposes - of about 10 first year introductory HarvardX and MITx + courses in our old 6 majors, and include courses for distribution requirements for a WUaS Liberal Arts' Bachelor's degree (like Reed College's distribution requirements - https://www.reed.edu/computer-science/requirements.html) . Any missing edX courses necessary for a WUaS degree, like a required first year 'Discrete Mathematics'' course per Houcemeddine, we can begin to get from here - https://ocw.mit.edu/search/ocwsearch.htm?q=discrete%20mathematics - for CODING purposes. Thank you.On with beginning to install Wikidata's Wikibase, then developing info boxes (which read Wikidata) in our 725 WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki pages - and focusing on our 6 majors at first - in the The_College_at_World_University_and_School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/The_College_at_World_University_and_School . https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Computer_Science

Cairngorms National Park (Scotland): Bagpiping and beauty (continued)? ~ Scottish Small Piping - 'Lament for Alasdair Dearg MacDonnell of Glengarry' Piobaireachd
Scottish Small Piping - Nov 12, 2020 - 'Lament for Alasdair Dearg MacDonnell of Glengarry' Piobaireachd
Sat., November 14, 2020
Hi Taylor,
Good playing of "Mackintosh's Banner" on Thursday!
Am appreciating Neil Clark's "Alasdair Dearg" on the practice chanter here - https://youtu.be/S53Kd1WEZB0 - for assuredness of non-mensural 'beat' (per Ian Whitelaw).
And here is a Neil Clark Scottish small pipes' duets with another reed instrument - https://www.falkirkpiping.com/gallery/ - but am particularly appreciating his fingering in his practice chanter videos for learning.
Regarding musical expression (item 7 - http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm) of Piobaireachd (which we were talking about on Thursday with regards to "Mackintosh's Banner") which is somehow 'CAPTIVATING,' ...
I was reminded again of this interview with “David Kim, Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra” by William Fitzpatrick on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/445062006?ref=em-share which I shared with you before, - and vin which ery early on in video, both of them mention their very great teacher Dorothy Delay, also of Yo Yo Ma,
who apparently taught 3 things -
beautiful sound
beautiful intonation ('accuracy of pitch in playing or singing, or on a stringed instrument such as a guitar' - and the GHB is a radical here in its own separate piping culture world over centuries, and pipers as kind of 'bad boys' in a sense, even as Scottish society and pipers at the same time head to quite beautiful and most formal and elegant dress? - Prince Charles' doublet and kilt + :)
beautiful phrasing
(Dorothy Delay Centennial Part 1
https://youtu.be/YHtoeS0aecY )
So what is musical expression in classical music (and I have Piobaireachd in mind here too as) - "dynamics, phrasing, timbre and articulation to bring the music to life" (from Wikipedia), and how best to learn this? I think Ian Whitelaw's Guidelines are good starting places currently ... but to learn them is the key ... So how to play Piobaireachd expressively and captivatingly, and then potentially even creatively in a new way that's out of the box ? Let's explore ...
And here are some new further related Alasdair Dearg videos - Different covers or different versions ?

Scottish Small Piping - 11/26/20 - Thanksgiving (in many ways ...) - Alasdair Dearg
Thursday, November 19, 2020Hi Taylor,
Good playing this evening of "Lament for Alasdair Dearg MacDonnell of Glengarry"!
Here again below are "Ian Whitelaw's Guidelines for Interpreting Piobairreachd" in the body of an email, below.
I think it would be interesting to focus on a number of his points explicitly next week with "Alastair Jearg" further.
And here are the interpretations, I mentioned, besides Angus MacLellan's in the Piobraireachd CoP Yellow Tutor Vol. 4's CD:

Which "Alasdair Dearg" is most compelling? Which has the most beautiful expression in a relative way for you (and regarding both Ian Whitelaw's guidelines, as well as Ma's and Marsalis's guidelines)?
And here's the reel "Loch Carron" in sheet music- https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C2CnTLsYYe2GoZGTkCPh2kiHj8Rr8_U_/view?usp=sharing
And let's begin to explore the Piobaireached "Glengarry's Lament next week as well.
Musical cheers, Scott
Ian Whitelaw's Guidelines for Interpreting Piobairreachd
1. Establish a beat (nonmensurally)! The 1st is strong, the 4th is the strongest. (For Piobairreachds in ¾, the third note is the strongest beat).
2. Show contrast between the long and short notes, emphasizing the long notes and really shortening (de-emphasizing) the short notes.
3. Watch for mirrors? - where the same theme is played on different notes. (Call and answer).
4. If you're already on a note before a cadence, give the following note, after the grace note, the time, to link phrases together.
5. When playing a 'he heran' (cantairreachd for ...) always hold the E.
6. If the note has embellishments, accent it! Hold it.
7. Give space longer to a note before and after the cadence, and before and after a double echo.
8. Always hold the A after a birl.
9. Two notes are never the same, and usually the 2nd note is longer than the first.
10. If the note has a doubling on it, you always hold it.
11. When a cut note is the first beat in the bar, make the first note of bar absolutely on the beat.
12. In a Braebach (Piobairreachd) tune, in a crunluath singling, count to 3 before playing the crunluath, and make the following two notes even.
13. In a Braebach doubling, count to two before playing the crunluath movement.
14. In the taorluath movement, play the melody notes in this order: long, longer, longest. Make each note a different length, and make the third the longest!
Piobairreachd
Structures:
Primary
a a b
a b b
a b
Secondary
a b c d
b c
Tertiary
Regular
Irregular
Types of Piobairreachd
Braebach tune
Strong, sing song rhythmic beat
Fosgailte tune
Instead of Taorluoth, play GDF for crunluath
Play the theme note followed by short note followed by eedree
Also, in fosgailte, never play the crunluath a mach (open)
Standard

Is whiskey an acquired taste for you, Taylor? (It has been for me). Piobaireachd can be a little like whiskey. Is great rock & roll, or JS Bach, an acquired taste for appreciators? Taste is something we've explored only a little before in terms of beauty, - and culture / identity informs taste, I'd posit, but how to learn a new taste, and then how to learn to play Piobaireachd beautifully - almost like computer coding, in or for playing this? What is greatest Piobaireachd, and also between these interpretations of Alasdair Dearg?
Some Further Piobaireachd ideas ... :)
Cheers, Scott

Taylor WarrenNov 21, 2020, 9:31 PM (1 day ago)

to me
It was somewhat of an acquired taste; I’m more of a gin guy but there’s nothing like a nice smoky Islay paired with pumpkin pie. Some thoughts: I still feel Bob Brown is the king of expression here: Clark’s even pacing works as a tutorial (which is his goal), and Stoddard transitions well between tunes and doesn’t turn the piece into a lullaby. I noted how he moved throughout the room as to not fall into too even of a beat. That Andrew fellow performs the piece competently but rushes the tarlouaths and crumluaths a bit too much and his transitions between movements are a bit jarring. Still not bad for what looks like a thirteen year old kid.
I’ll give them subsequent listens throughout the week and let you know if I pick up anything else.
Music appreciation is definitely part of the process of learning to perform well. With appreciation comes cultivation of taste. When I was singing I listened to a number of operatic tenors in order to assist in developing my high range. I was actually advised to steer clear of Caruso during this because he often sung far above his natural range (he was a baritone who often “pushed up” and lacked the powerful squillo that natural tenors like Pavarotti tend to exhibit best). All provided a range of interpretations that helped me develop my own style and appreciate the craft that goes into singing. Did I ever mention I was lukewarm on opera until I began singing classically and appreciated what went into it? I feel the same about piobaireachd in many ways.
*
Great, Taylor -
thanks for your critical thinking here regarding these Piobaireachd interpretations of Alasdair Dearg. (I like gin too, more than Scotch or single malts, but you're much more eloquent about this than I am here).
Cheers, and more later, Scotthttps://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/bagpiping

Friends, and World University and School, have a unique way of doing business rooted in attentiveness and in listening (but in a secular and non-theistically friendly way) ...
https://www.fgcquaker.org/resources/quaker-meetings-toolbox-friendly-business
including ...
"Have a written agenda. Spend time before the meeting considering just what needs to be done. Remember to hold it in the Light, not just think it through.
Ask for written reports and proposals. This will encourage advance preparation, and keep Friends focused on what is under consideration. An enormous amount of time is wasted if Friends are confused about what they are being asked to decide.
Have each report or proposal presented by the person most involved This will provide a personal touch and an infusion of energy. (If you find you are doing all the presentations, you need to get more members actively involved in the work!)
Present each item as if it were a question for worship sharing. Explain the guidelines for worship sharing. Make clear that you expect Friends to approach the business in hand in a way that is radically different from ordinary discussion. Here are the basics:
1. Allow silence before and after each person speaks.

Hi Jen Gilbert, and Leanna,
Greetings!
I couldn't find your email online, Jen, so am emailing Leanna, hoping that you might know each other. https://www.msgilbertrocks.com/contact Could I possibly please see your detailed CV?

Thanks for your helpful presentation today, Jen. Unfortunately the audio and internet signal weren't working very well at all. While I just connected with you on LinkedIn, I'd be interested in learning more of your thoughts about play-based learning with Lego, and especially with Lego robotics - and brainstorming-wise, even in an edX course.
Thank you. I'm including a related email I sent to people at the high school I went to in Pittsburgh, PA, with some thoughts about Lego robotics and play,
How might we best communicate further about some of this?

Hi Jesse, Lisa, Jamie, and President Griffith,
Thanks for your informative "Lunch Bytes – A Demo: Modeling Parametric Furniture with the Epilog Laser Cutter" just now. And nice to e-meet you.
I'm curious about the now 3 Lego Robotics' Kits, with the free Scratch programming language, and both actually, and virtually (potentially in MineCraft), and how Shady Side could develop classes in Robotics even, and online, for SSA students (possibly during Covid-19 and after as well).
I write in developing MIT OCW-centric World University and School, and in seeking to offer even online robotics' courses (emerging from https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/experimental-study-group/es-293-lego-robotics-spring-2007/) at the college and high school levels, beginning with the 3 Lego Robotics' kits, with Scratch programming (out of the MIT Media Lab), mostly virtually, but with students working doing home robotics with physical Lego kits. If possible, such courses for 1st year undergraduate students toward undergraduate Engineering and other degrees, this January, will find form on the edX platform (founded by Harvard & MIT), with which World Univ & Sch is newly partnering. And in the process of WUaS developing such courses - in conjunction with you, Jesse and SSA? - WUaS would seek to build into an edX course platform a learner-centric approach, eg see Harvard GSE Prof. Karen Brennan's recent paper -
https://twitter.com/karen_brennan/status/1328490675533471745?s=20 and
Educators identified six actions as important to negotiating their pedagogical aspirations and the realities of online learning at scale: (1) giving up control, (2) distributing facilitation, (3) being live, (4) amplifying, (5) modeling, and (6) being explicit.

https://twitter.com/karen_brennan/status/1328490682009444352?s=20. (Currently I found only 2 robotics courses when I searched in edX on Lego Robotics).
How might we best communicate about this further, Jesse and All? Could SSA students begin to program their Lego robots to travel in MineCraft (as it develops and MIT has an educational version of Minecraft) from the virtual SSA main campus to the SSA middle school campus, and to do all kinds of interesting robotics things, like autonomous driving, and exploring the boundaries of what autonomy is and means? And could SSA become a remarkable leader in developing and teaching high school Lego robotics and related programming? (Might SSA and WUaS even explore collaborating offering online Robotics' courses - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Robotics - at the high school level?).
One of my further main interests is how to develop Lego Robotics in a Google Ecosystem which we can all build together, eg:

Hi, Scott,Sorry about that. Here’s my email address.
In my work with Tufts University I have seen them use a variety of LEGO solutions and they primarily focused on the Mindstorms EV3 kits within their engineering program. I am not sure if that will shift a bit more now that the SPIKE Prime kits are available. I do think WeDo 2.0 is a nice place for those with little to no experience.
Online, I agree it is challenging. I think the Scratch apps for LEGO integration are awesome. Depending on your goals, the web-based simulator with Root is great too. Their coding platform offers three levels (level 2 is closest to Scratch), but most importantly there is a simulator to run the code right in Chrome, so not having a physical robot is less of a barrier. There are also options like CoderZ that has simulations for LEGO as well.
I can certainly send along an updated CV if you would like to have one on hand. I will get it updated ASAP and email it over.
So glad you were able to be part of the webinar. It was nice to share ideas and learn from the other panelists as well. Thanks for reaching out and connecting.
Have a nice weekend,
Jen

So glad you were able to be part of the webinar. It was nice to share ideas and learn from the other panelists as well. Thanks for reaching out and connecting.
Have a nice weekend,
Jen

Greetings!
Got a bounce-back just now from this too to you and Leanna:
Am trying this email address as an adaptation from your msgilbertrocks@msgilbertrocks.com as an adaptation from your msgilbertrocks.com LinkedIn profile.
Might I please see your CV per your https://www.msgilbertrocks.com/contact ? Thank you. Where might you head with creating a Lego Robotics' course for 1st year undergraduates in an Engineering major on the edX platform at WUaS, brainstorming-wise, potentially even with doing so with Lego WeDo 2.0 with Scratch Programming, since most of these hypothetical 18 year olds online could be newbies to WUaS Home Lego Robotics? Thank you.
Cheers, Scott

Hi Jen, Thanks too for your email.
Root looks awesome, if this is Root - https://www.virtualroboticstoolkit.com
And CoderZ too - https://www.robot-advance.com/EN/actualite-lego-ev3-compatible-with-coderz-107.htm - and I've tried out their one month free, but didn't see Scratch like in the image here.
MIT's educational version of MineCraft with a developing Google rǝ for Lego robotics even and in Google Street View with TIME SLIDER + (re Brick Street View) would be an awesome thing to do ...
Google rǝ
Go back in time with rǝ, an open source suite of tools that leverages deep learning to enable developers, map enthusiasts, and creatives to generate historical reconstructions of cities in 3D using crowdsourced historical maps and photos. World Univ & Sch is seeking for departments of education in all ~200 countries to reimburse WUaS for CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric World Univ & Sch free-to-student degrees, and potentially for each of the 3 Lego Robotics' kits in the poorer countries, if students matriculate for 4 years' degrees or similar - and for 'WUaS Home Robotics' - https://twitter.com/hashtag/WUaSHomeRobotics?src=hashtag_click - combining both actual and virtual. See, too - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForLego?src=hashtag_click - and - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics?src=hashtag_click.
Have you found this helpful - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/experimental-study-group/es-293-lego-robotics-spring-2007/ - or even explored making a course in something like edX (either at college or high school level?)
Looking forward to checking out your CV.
Any Gilberts from Colorado in the past for you? My mother's mother's maiden name, my Granny Brown, was 'Gilbert,' from Boulder, CO, then Cincinnati, OH :)
Cheers, and thanks, Scott--

to me
Hi, Scott,I will take a look at what you shared. This is the Root robot I mentioned:

Hi, Jen,Very cool!
Brainstorming-wise, a few further questions:
Playful learning with Lego robotics in edX courses?
Peter Norvig, head of Google's AI, and his Lego Institute - https://norvig.com/LI2/ - and re the Google ecosystem for a realistic virtual earth for Lego robotics ?
I enjoyed the Lego WeDo 2.0 tutorial and block programming language some time ago, and wonder how to build on this? for 15 week-long college and high school Lego robotics' courses for credit, which would also be playful. How to explore writing playful learning - which you touched on yesterday - as well as STEM playful learning, first in an Engineering undergraduate major at WUaS?
Thank you!
Cheers, Scott
