joys of small town life
Yesterday I worked until about 7:00, then kicked back from my desk, made a quick change of clothes, and headed out to the county fair.
I love fairs, and it has been about thirteen years between them. They haven't changed. The flowers are still wilted in the flower displays, the bunnies still chew at hay and ignore you, and the cows still smell like cows. The rides are still up and over, round and round, and dip and swoop, and run with colored lights. The people running them haven't...

I'm shooting pictures . . .
. . . and taking notes. We have a very shady lawn, and the high-light spots are at a premium. Hosta do very well, but I like raspberries and apple trees, and so today I'm going out into the lawn every hour and taking a snapshot of the light, ending once and for all the discussion Guy and I are having over "is there enough light?" -laugh-
We're trying to put in the last of the borders, and the depth of the beds will depend upon what's going in. It also looks like I'm going to have to cave a...

Cover Art and Classes
Patience is a virtue, but sometimes, you just gotta take a lick of frosting from the cake BEFORE it's served.
I actually have two things to tell you this morning, the first being the cover art for PALE DEMON. I absolutely love this cover, and I hope that it makes it through all the hurdles and jumps that it still has to go through to make it to the shelf. (It's not over until the covers are printed, and we're not there yet.) I had quite a bit of input into this one, and my editor got what...

Friday!
And boy, could I use a few days from the computer to pick away at the list of stuff I want to do around the house. The only "gotta" is going plant shopping with my mom. Guy pulled out all the old bushes from her front, and she, (and sometimes I,) have been going shopping to fill the old spaces up. Her yard is looking really nice, but there are some bare spots. And since I've got some bare spots, too . . . -laugh-
So I think it's a home improvement store first, and then maybe some local...

Must be edging to fall
I'm starting to get itchy to change the website. That can only mean one thing. I've got the ARCs for the next book in my sweaty little hands, and I'm starting to think about the next tour. (yay!)
Which is kind of weird because it's six months away, but it takes tons of preparation for me, and getting the website back in shape is one of the biggies. I'm thinking of color, and layout right now. How I can shift things to make the site look more professional, and still keep it distinctly...

Vunderbar
I had a nice surprise yesterday when the German edition of Madison Avery, ONCE DEAD, TWICE SHY landed on my front porch. I had to show you, because I love thecover. Don't get me wrong. I like my US cover. It's elegant and trendy, and it has all the right elements to tell potential readers what's in there, but this one? -grin-
I really like it, from the stylized cats and bats, to Madison's punky hair and woebegone expression of how-did-I-get-into-this-mess? And the I in her name is...

A sincere pumpkin patch
Well, I don't know if it's sincere or not, especially since the only thing orange in it is my dog. -grin- Lotsa flowers, but they are all male. I think the plants need to get bigger before they can support a fruit. sigh. I'm patient, but not that patient.
Working on the world book this week. It's going to be a hard day. It's only 8:00 am, and I'm tired already. Late night yesterday. But it's all good. ;-) I've finally got the windows open again, and the crickets sound heavenly.
