Rain came through

It rained last night.  I don't even know what time, but it was a good solid rain–right after I'd watered the entire lawn.  -laugh-  No complaints, though.  Everything has that just-washed look that you get on Hollywood sets.

Yesterday's work went pretty well, but I didn't get done what I had planned on, so it's push-on today!  I'm back on the world book for a week to let my perceptions on the graphic novel settle before I brush it up and send it off.

It's been a weird summer so far.

Small Steps

Small steps add up to big ones, a saying that I proved to myself again this week in about three different ways, but the one I'm going to talk about here is . . . the rough draft for the second graphic novel is sitting in my fire-proof file cabinet, perking for a week before I brush it up and send it off.  TA-DA!  -grin-

It's done months ahead of time, but now it's off my plate (apart from a quick brush through) and I can work, hopefully uninterrupted, on the Hollows for acres and acres of...

UK readers, I've got a question for you

I have a question in to my publisher about the release of the electronic version of BMS in the UK and Canada, but I had a question come in from a reader about FOC.  Seems he's having a hard time finding a non-corrupted file, and came to me before going to the pirate sites.  (Thank you, thank you.)

I thought I had a list on my website of non-US e-outlets, but I don't.  So if you're in the UK, and get your books electronically, drop me a comment  here so I can collect the links and put them on t...

Major Sweetness

Since we have a house that's a hundred years old, I've been trying to furnish it with a few period pieces.  Well, I don't know if it's actually Victorian in style, but when I saw this doll couch, I thought to myself, "I wonder if the dogs would use it?"  The answer is a resounding yes, and it has become Alexi's favorite spot overnight.

Alexi is the more timid of the two dogs, but I think she recognized that it was a couch–like everyone else in the house sits on–and she took to it immediately. ...

Lost a day

Somewhere, I lost a day.  Thursday?  I thought it was Wednesday.  Must be all the excitement.

So yesterday I worked on the second graphic novel.  I had gotten about halfway through when I realized that the conflect, which was plain for me to see, would not be obvious to the reader.  Especially when it's not the usual GN bad guy, good guy setup where you have a clear villain and hero.

Ivy has no arc enemy, apart from herself.  Her battle is within, and though that is a running theme in many...

I love my new shiny

Renovating an older home has more than its fair share of surprises, most of them nasty. (Like the new wet spot on my ceiling last night after the torrential rains yesterday afternoon.)  But if you are doing a deep renovation, such as moving walls and excavating shrubs and overgrown trees that have been in the ground forever, you might find

something cool, like an old car jack, a paper printed the day after D-day, or even a tombstone in the garden.  (All true, and then some.)  But my favorite g...

Because life is not black and white

Ta-da!  Short post today, but if a picture is a thousand words . . .  (Click to get a better image.)  This is one of the first colored panels from the upcoming Hollows graphic novel, and I'm really pleased.  I like this shot the best of the six or so that I've seen because it shows Ivy's beauty against the stark ugliness of Piscary's.  (the back room) She's free and independent–and chained, unable to free herself from the very things she loves and hates.  This panel might encapsulate her...
