English E-212 : The Vampire in Literature and Film

Okay, this is the coolest thing.  My editor found this, and I had to pass it on to you this fine Friday.  DEAD WITCH WALKING is part of the reading list for an extension course at Harvard. (I knew I should have named one of my demons after them . . .  laugh)  Other well-known authors such as Hamilton, Harris, and of course, Meyer, are there and highlighted, but The Hollows is on the list!

I've always been of the mind that vampires, witches, and Weres in literature can be used as recognizable t...

Page proofs

I've been working on the page proofs for PALE DEMON this week, and should finish them up today.  As much as I hate copy edit, I like page proofs.  This is the final time for me to catch typos, (some of which show up because of the copy edit) word choice stuttering (which is where you choose pick the same word twice in quick succession, such as choice and choose in this paragraph) and errors of fact.  (such as there are really five candles in Rachel's bag, not four as I think I stridently...

Kim's Pumpkin Patch

Before I moved down to SC, I did a few years of vegetable gardening.  Beans, tomatoes, that kind of thing.  I also did pumpkins, and every year, there was more space devoted to pumpkins than anything else, until that was pretty much it.  I really got into it, hand pollinating some of them to collect the seeds and get a pumpkin better suited for the microclimate.  It was fun, and I learned to recognize which flower was going to open, put it in a paper bag, and then come out the next day and...

Wouldn't you know

I had been looking for my jump drive for almost six weeks, and I finally gave up this last Sunday and bought a new one.  I couldn't resist when I found the drives encased in little ocean animal shapes. Some might have gone for the penguin.  As it was, I liked the turtle the best but got the colorful clown fish because it was orange, and hence would jump out at me when I started looking for it.

So I bought it, brought it home, let it sit on my desk for a few days, took it out of the package ...

My dirt clothes . . .

got dirty.  ;-)

It took me all of the weekend, because I was moving _very_ slow, but I got most of my trees in the ground and the front corner garden weeded out.  I mulched it Sunday, and called it good.  Ahhhhhh, it's finally starting to feel like my yard.  I think I impressed the guys across the street working on my neighbors driveway, working in the "heat" when they were taking breaks in their air-conditioned trucks.  (grin)

It feels chilly this morning.  They must think I'm nuts in the...

I put my dirt pants on this morning

I put my dirt pants on this morning in the vain hope that I'd be able to make them, well, dirty, before the sun goes down.  It's a wishful thought that will not become realized until maybe Monday because the world is plotting against me.  But hope is there.  Between the work load and a back issue, I've not gotten dirty in over a week.  Okay, two weeks, and it's been extremely frustrating.

Yesterday, though, I went plant shopping with my mom, (I knew better, but everything was 30% off!) and I b...
