Violeta's Life Is Beautiful Layout

Hello!

I am happy to be back with you in this blog sharing my scrabooking ideas. I love the “Sunshine & Good Times” collection of Amy Tangerine. It is perfect of any pictures of a travel.

I love creating layouts and I want to show you how I have made this one.

Life is Beautiful - Layout - Violeta Scrap_0.jpg

Life is Beautiful - Layout - Violeta Scrap_1.jpg

I have made the layout using small pictures of a travel. For the base of the layout, I have used a patterned paper from the collection “Sunshine & Good Times”.

I have combined the two photographs with different cards that I have cut from a paper of the collection “Sunshine & Good Times”.

To decorate the project, I have used different stickers from the Sticker Book of Amy Tangerine. I love stickers! I have also used a golden washi tape that combines with the title of the layout.

I have added some journaling in the project in a small card so I can have written the memories of these photographs. I have also added some yellow enamels to give more color to the layout.

Finally, I have stamped some stamps from the collection “Sunshine & Good Times” in black color, to add more fun to the project.

It is a very simple project that you can use with your favorite photographs of a travel or a very special day.

SHINE BRIGHT! Race for Wellness with Project Happiness

Race for Wellness

Are you feeling stalled-out in your health and fitness journey? I would like to invite you to join me and the #RaceForWellness with Project Happiness. There are a lot of amazing things about this event. It can be difficult to stay positive and maintain your creative juices if you’re feeling drained. That’s why it’s so important to put an emphasis on wellbeing and mental health. Many of those healthy habits are learned from an early age. That’s where Project Happiness comes in.

Race for Wellness

On their site, they talk about the fact that “...happiness is not just a state; happiness is a skill set that anyone can learn. The World Health Organization has officially stated that depression is the leading cause of global mental and physical disability, affecting 1 in 20 people. Our goal is to impact 10,000,000 lives. Kindness, mindfulness, and all the other tools we can use are not just niceties – they are key to bringing out the best in us, and our society. The science is strong and the need is compelling. It’s exciting that we can now give those who need it most the tools to take charge of their own happiness, to become more aware, emotionally resilient, and develop the skills to navigate whatever life presents. Happiness, like all emotions, is contagious; for ourselves and generations to come, let’s create a world where everyone can thrive.”

Race for Wellness

Every dollar spent on the race will go toward putting a mental health curriculum in schools that will teach students the skills needed for a happy, healthy lifestyle. The more people register, contribute, and race, the more that ends up in schools enabling students and educators to build good habits. I would love to see what Team Tangerine will end up being able to give:

$5,000: Provide our curriculum to a school district

$2500: Facilitate a one-day workshop to train teachers

$1,000: Provide a school with our curriculum

$500: Empower an entire classroom of students with their own happiness book - a personal compass for challenging times

$250: Sponsor a classroom with our curriculum

$150: Sponsor a film screening

$50: Gift a school with the film and book – happiness is contagious

$25: Gift a school with the happiness book – a catalyst for positive change

Race for Wellness

You’ll have the chance to raise money for a good cause and get in shape all in one go! The race is from September 15-October 15 and you can participate from literally anywhere. You don't even have to run. Want to do yoga? Or hike? Or walk? You can log any of these activities and more! They all count. Will you shine bright and join Team Tangerine in the #RaceForWellness?

Join my team!

4 Life-Changing Self-Help Books!

Self Help Graphic

Want to make your house tidier? Lose that extra 10 lbs? Communicate with coworkers just a little more efficiently? It’ almost Autumn— a season of self improvement and change. Maybe you have an entire to-do list for the next few months and you have no idea where to start. The good news is, there’s almost certainly a book out there to help you figure out how to achieve your goals.

That’s one of the things I love about self-help books. They are full of life hacks, skills, and new ways of looking at the world. I view them as a source of encouragement, exchange of good ideas, and a chance to examine my own process for doing certain things, rather than as a quick fix. My favorites include The Universe Has Your Back, How to Live a Good Lifeand You Are A Badass

Before I delve further into this, I want to address one of the main misconceptions about the genre. These books aren’t gospel. They won’t magically transform you overnight or eliminate all your bad habits in one go. For example, let’s say you buy one of those fancy electric tooth brushes. You wouldn’t expect to fix cavities or whiten your teeth if you never actually used it. In the same way, you have to actually put the skills and strategies in self help books to use. I guess what I'm trying to say is, these books help make a difficult complicated process (really getting to know yourself), less difficult and complicated. They just don't do the hard work for you. After all, it's all about YOU and what fun would that be?

Here are 10 reasons I love self help books along with a few things I’ve learned from them:

Think of yourself as a work in progress. These books don't encourage unreasonable standards of imperfection. Instead, they offer concrete individual steps for improvement. Having reasonable expectations for yourself and your accomplishments is an important part of being kind to yourself. Stop comparing yourself to other people. Almost every self help book I've encountered echoes this message across the board. Everyone is different. I could never create the art of another person— I can only create my own. That's a beautiful thing and it means we can take the pressure off ourselves. Instead of looking outward, we can look inward. Focus on the present moment. Today's fast-paced, results-oriented world of constant motion makes it hard to stay grounded and aware of what's going on right in front of you. It's hard enough to tear away from your phone without feeling like you might be missing something important!Give you a chance to evaluate your personal process. Knowing yourself is an important part of reaching your goals. Full of good ideas and strategies. Even with the power of the internet at our fingertips, we can't find every life hack or every personality quiz. You can learn from someone else’s triumphs and their mistakes. Of course, everyone is different and part of the journey is figuring things out for yourself. But hearing from a more experienced person as they write that no, not everything you do has to be perfect or to suggest that maybe that crushing failure is actually a chance to reassess and try again. There's nothing like a fresh perspective when you're at a crossroads!Convey meaningful stories, anecdotes, and fables. Whether it's a cringe-worthy tale of a mix-up at work or a missed opportunity or even a tragic childhood disappointment, self help books aren't all facts and strategies. There are stories woven throughout to illustrate the authors ideas, points, and experiences. These give a way to visualize how the author came to their conclusion.Help you identify your areas of growth. None of us are perfect. But our blindspots are...well...blindspots. We don't necessarily know where they are and what they might be. Trying new things gives us a chance to identify our faults or weak spots and come up with new and better ways to improve.Gives you a chance to see what doesn’t work for you. So maybe you pick up a self-help book and read it. Something doesn't click with you. The author's stories don't speak to you. Something isn't quite right. That's okay. You've still learned something important. Knowing what we don't like is just as important as knowing what we love. Plus, I guarantee, there's another book out there with your name on it!Build good habits to craft a life you love. Okay so maybe this is a little plug for my own book Craft A Life You Lovebut it comes from my sincere belief that each of us is a beautiful work in progress. Not everything in our lives need to be perfect and many self help books emphasize this while going on to say how encouraging this fact actually is. There is room for errors and mistakes, especially if we use those moments to learn and grow from them.

If you're interested in trying out some of my faves, let me know in the comments below!

Dreamy Decor Update– Featuring Gray Malin

Dreamy Decor Update

Dreamy Decor

It's amazing to me how things just fall into place! We recently got two new beautiful framed photographs to update some spaces in our home and I'm totally in love with them. The new photos came at the perfect time as we had just gotten rid of our TV and cable. We were searching for the right piece to go on the large wall in our living area and one to go in Jack's bedroom. The best part? Both photos are shot by Gray Malin. If you aren't familiar with his work, you should be. The positive, carefree and bright elements are so timeless, yet fresh. I love the unexpected twists and creativity as well. It’s just so inspiring and wonderful all around. Gray is so kind himself and it really shows through in his art.

Dreamy Decor

The elephant print has several special meanings for us, which is why we love it so much. My in-laws used to have quite a collection of elephant icons in their home. I visited several elephant sanctuaries in Thailand and when JC and I were in South Africa, we spotted several elephants, including babies. They are such fascinating and lovely animals.

Dreamy Decor

Also, serendipitously, I happen to be at The Parker when this photo shoot was happening. In fact several friends and I walked up right when Eliza was being walked through the path after she was done with this shot. We saw the balloons and Gray was kind enough to talk with us and even pose for a photo!

Dreamy Decor

For Jack’s room, we were working on figuring out what to do with the large wall. Because I knew it would be perfect to go along with his other loves of reading, Lego “guys” and art, we had the custom shelves built in a way that would work with framed pieces around it. We just love the colors and it brings a smile to everyone’s face when they see it.

Dreamy Decor

We love seeing Gray Malin's work throughout our travels as well. In Bermuda, a friend and I immediately spotted his work in a resort shop. The owner told us the pieces were actually shot right there. When we were in London last year, we stayed at Le Meridien in Piccadilly and spotted several of his pieces there. I love that there are so many great collaborations so we can infuse more of the style and vibes into our lives as well. More happiness and fun, and more Gray Malin - that’s what the world needs.

If you'd like to read more about the photoshoot and how these images came to be, you can take a look at this post on Gray Malin's blog.  And last but not least, Jack is obsessed with Gray's newest book, Be Our Guest!

Shine on- in Stores Now!

I’m so excited to share my brand new collection with you! It’s called “Shine On.” This is my 15th collection with American Crafts - can you believe it? It’s been such a fun journey to create this set of products and I know using them will bring a bright smile to anyone’s face. This collection features muted tones (mint green, soft mauve, darkened lavender) and bright gold accents. It’s a beautiful combination of craft-room staples and unique stand-out pieces. Soft botanicals, cute woodland creatures, and geometric patterns all make appearances in Shine On. You can find this collection at your local scrapbook store or here online. There are so many amazing items in this collection– you should check out the whole thing or watch the video where I cover each individual item. For this post, I'm highlighting 3 amazing products that you should be sure not to miss!

Keep on Shining

1. We have a beautiful set of 8 unique washi tapes with a variety of widths and textures. There are some fun patterns, a glitter tape, and more standard sized tapes. There’s a thicker one with a black and white camera pattern, perfect for pages or spreads with pictures. And there’s a cute sparkly thin gold roll that will accent anything you stick it to and the best part is that the glitter will not rub off!

Keep on Shining

2. As always, I’ve included a beautiful little sticker book. There are 419 individual stickers. Many of them have clear backing and will fit into any paper project. Some of them are hard to see on camera and even in person because they are actually printed in white. The collection also includes some beautiful die cuts. They come in matte, gold, and craft styles. They feature hand-lettering in white and gold colors.

Keep On Shining

3. One of my favorite *new* items from the collection is this golden stencil ruler. There are a ton of shapes you can trace, it’s great for creating short, perfectly straight lines and you can even create a cute little scalloped pattern with the other side of the ruler.

So, what’s your favorite part of the collection? Be sure to let me know in the comments and give this video a thumbs up. Thanks as always for watching. Hope you feel inspired to keep the creative juices flowing and I cannot wait to see what you create with Shine On! Keep shining friends!

Violeta's Beautiful Layout

Hello! I am Violeta Scrap and I am delighted to show you again my scrap projects so you can have some inspiration.

Violeta's Beautiful Layout

I have made some layouts with the pictures of my friend’s wedding. I met her thanks to scrapbooking. I have made this layout with the pictures of the beginning of the wedding and the invitation of the event as the main element of decoration.

Violeta's Beautiful Layout

For this Project I have used the new Amy Tangerine’s collection “Shine On” because its colors are very beautiful and they combine perfectly with the wedding pictures. I have used a white basic cardstock as the base of the Project.  I have glued over a stripe of the paper “Planted” of the new collection “Shine On” in brown colors combining with the colors of the invitation.

For the title, I have combined a white alphabet, a Golden alphabet and a Brown alphabet in different sizes and materials.

Violeta's Beautiful Layout

As main element decorating the layout I have used the envelope and the invitation of the wedding. Plus, I have added some blue hearts of the new Amy Tangerine’s collection “Shine On”.

Violeta's Beautiful Layout

It is a very simple Project that you can make with few materials. You can combine the different papers from the Amy Tangerine’s collection “Shine On”.I am sure that you can make this Project with pictures of a very special day. And with Amy’s papers the result is amazing.

Zinia's Confetti Layout

Zinia's Confetti Layout 1

Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and I have another paper-focused design to share with you. This is an extremely easy page to recreate and it’s perfect if you want to use up scraps.

Zinia's Confetti Layout 3

My starting point for this layout was a color palette. I realized that many of my pages look similar cause I tend to either use one collection at a time or gravitate towards the same color combinations. That’s why I decided to step outside my comfort zone and work with a very unusual(atleast for my standard) color palette.

Zinia's Confetti Layout 6

I basically mixed some reds, pinks and oranges with green and teals patterns. To achieve that color combination, I pulled papers from various collections by Amy. Although the collections look completely different from one another, the products work together effortlessly.

Zinia's Confetti Layout 4

So after I pulled my pattern papers, I punched a bunch of circles in two different sizes. I arranged those circles on my page pretty much randomly. I only tried to keep them denser in the middle and spread them around as we move to the edges. I call this, the confetti design!

Zinia's Confetti Layout 5

To make my confetti area even more dense, I added a few tiny splatters to fiil any big gaps between my circles. The embellishing part was slightly challenging because of the unusual color palette. I had to focus on pieces that were either monochromatic or didn’t include any extra colors.

Zinia's Confetti Layout 2

I must say that having limited options because of the colors, made it much easier to commit and finish off the page very quickly instead of trying out every single piece of ephemera in my stash.

So this is the page for today, I really hope you enjoyed it and you will pull out your circle punches to create your own take on this confetti design.

Until next time, happy crafting.

- Zinia

On The Lavendaire Lifestyle Podcast

amy-tan-4x6.jpg

It’s the golden age of Podcasting and I was lucky enough to join the lovely Aileen for an episode of her podcast The Lavendaire Lifestyle. The Lavendaire Lifestyle is all about committing to treating your life as art. We talked about all kinds of great things including how I got my start in fashion, how I published Craft A Life You Love, and my HARMONY principle. We also talked about how important it is to surround yourself with supportive and helpful mentors throughout your journey as a creative. If you don’t have time to drop everything and listen right now, I’ve included my tips on how to find that perfect mentor and stay inspired throughout your creative journey.

Put your work out there. It isn’t just about receiving feedback— although that is incredibly helpful. Letting others enjoy your work can be a source of inspiration for you as a creative.

Get in touch with someone you admire. Reach out to people in your life who you look up to, someone whose work and career is what you hope to achieve someday. Often, people are more than eager to share what they’ve learned.

Read the success stories of others online. If you don’t have access to an individual person, learn from the experiences they’ve written or spoken about online in interviews, blog posts, and yes, even podcasts. Collect quotes or videos and keep it all in one place. A journal or Pinterest board will do the trick. You’ll be amazed by how much you can learn from the comfort of your own home.

Talk to your friends and the people around you about your passions and goals. Put yourself out there. Exchange ideas, seek a second or third opinion, and make your desires known. The people in your life will want to help and support you. This is where true networking takes place— you never know who has connections until you ask.

Filter through the noise. You don’t have to take everyone’s advice. Pick and choose the advice you want to take with you. Just because someone offers an opinion does not mean it applies to you or that you should take it to heart. Pay attention to your instincts and think about the kind of person you truly are. Does it sound right or wrong for you? If the answer is yes, hold onto those words. If not, keep moving forward.

I also spoke with Aileen about the infamous 7-Year Itch. If you aren’t sure what that is, no worries! The 7-Year Itch is basically the idea that creatives need a “shakeup” or change in their work every 7 years. This has been largely true in my own life. I spent about 7 years on fashion before moving on to scrapbooks. Now, over the 7 year mark in that medium, I have shifted my focus to travelers notebooks, bullet journals, and of course, my Hobonichi. If you’re in a bit of a slump, you can use some of my tips to break out of your creative funk and try something a little different.

Try new things in small ways and see what sticks. I am not joking when I say my Hobonichi was a life-changing buy. Having it combines so many of my favorite things all in one: water color, bullet journal, travelers notebooks, scrapbooking. All of it fits in one awesome place and don’t even get me started on how awesome the paper is.

Get out of your comfort zone. If you’re a writer, take a drawing class. If you’re a painter, try dancing. Even if the new experience doesn’t resonate with you, chances are that you’ll approach your creativity differently after trying something a little out of the box.

Strive for HARMONY. If you aren’t familiar with my HARMONY principle, you can read about it here or even watch my video about it. The basic idea is to have a guiding set of criteria that helps you make decisions and prioritize your obligations. Instead of striving for balance and perfection, think about HARMONY.

There’s so much more to my conversation with Aileen. You can also find her show notes here. I would love for you to give the episode a listen and let me know what you think. Which of these tips will help you the most?

Sharing my story

Fiercely Fearless with Olay

Choose joy! Those two words sound so easy, right? I firmly believe that looking on the brightest side of life is a choice you’ll never regret. That doesn’t make things any less difficult when facing life’s challenges. Most people who know me really well would say that I am more of an optimist than a pessimist. And it's true - I am. But I haven't always been this way. I have gone through phases in my life when I encountered negativity and bad stuff. Everyone has. The true mark of inner strength is being able to face your obstacles and choose happiness anyway. It’s definitely easier said than done on some days. When I am struggling or feeling down, I intentionally have to carve out time to pause and replace those negative thoughts with positive ones.

When I first moved to Los Angeles when I was 25, I had no idea what kind of crazy amazing journey was ahead of me. A company had relocated me from Atlanta. I was excited to get to work in a new place, while keeping the little company that I started when I was 21 on the side. I dreamed of living as close to the beach as possible. The path seemed perfectly paved until just a week after my arrival, I got a call that pivoted my life in a way that was most unexpected. My boss told me that I was going to be let go if I chose to keep Amy Tangerine on the side. I had to choose either the company I created or the job that had moved me to LA. I was devastated. I had just bought a brand new car, I didn’t have a place to live and and now I was out of a job. I called my dad and he said “You’re lost in the right place.” Those words comforted me and gave me hope. I wouldn’t have made the big move on my own and here is where I was going to thrive.

Plans shift and change and yet through it all, I held onto believing in myself, maintaining a positive mindset and doing what I love most— making things. Challenges and struggles are opportunities for tremendous growth. We all have a story to tell, we all have unique paths to take. When you find yourself at a crossroads in life and you feel out of balance, perhaps you’ll find comfort and guidance in seeking harmony instead of balance. I created an acronym from the word, and I call it the Harmony Principle:

Fiercely Fearless

"There is nothing more beautiful than a woman on a mission." -quote from this inspiring video. I think this phrase is so important because so often as women I think it is easy to forget how true it is. That's why I so enjoyed watching other fearless females who give a sneak peak into overcoming their everyday lives and challenges through the power of Olay. See how pilots face anything during their day. I’m grateful to share my story too in a video on my channel. Just as I overcame my fears and adversity, I am proud to stand with Tristan and all of the other fearless females throughout the world! So who wants to join me on this Harmony journey? Your permission has been granted to live your best creative life and feel fearless to rise above and to be the best version of yourself each and every day. I am so inspired by your comments in the YouTube video already. Thank you!!

This post is in collaboration with Olay, all ideas and opinions are my own. As always, my creative partners and I appreciate the support.

Embrace the beauty that surrounds you. Do you have a word or guiding principle that helps you?

The New Pipsticks+Workman Collection – 3 Favorites

Planner 2019 Picture.jpg

Look out world— there's a fun, bright a new collection on our hands! This one is a collaboration with Pipsticks+Workman and I want to go ahead and share 3 things that really excited me about it when I first received the package in the mail. After all, who doesn’t just love getting new supplies for their planners, scrapbooks and journals?!

Dreaming in Color.png

Dreaming in Color - This sticker book is perfect for those moments when you create a spread and just need to add something cute but you don’t quite know what that might be… The book has all the cutest things: unicorns, lipstick, french toast with adoring eyes— even some balloon animals and cassette tapes.

Building My Empire 19-Month Planner - I’m not just highlighting this because it has a beautiful little rainbow with the coolest typewriter on the cover, but that also doesn’t hurt. This planner is perfect for long-term goals and events. Sometimes, it’s good to have a product that spans beyond the shorter term bullet journal or Hobonichi.

Building My Empire 2019.png

Big Ideas Inside - If you’re anything like me, you never know when inspiration is going to strike. But what if you’re far away from your work space or have no time to actually get started? The struggle to write an idea down before it gets away is made so much easier when you have a designated place to put it. That’s where this idea pad for creative thinkers comes in. It has plenty of pages to fill with ideas, but it’s small enough for you to slip in your bag or purse while you’re on the go. There are also a ton of stickers to brighten up your scribbles.

Big Ideas Inside.png

There are so many other awesome products in this collection, not just the ones I’ve talked about here. So, which of the three would you feel excited to use? Be sure to let me know in the comments!
