On the Crafty A** Female Podcast!!

SO excited to have been invited by the ladies of Crafty Ass Female to be a guest on their podcast! It was such a blast.
The three of us discussed all sorts of awesome things and played games— including “my therapist said…” and talked about how to let go of negativity in our lives. We talk about doing life ‘out of order’, having a positive outlook, how I’m working smarter not harder, and more. When they asked me about my definition of success, I said that it’s an idea that has changed and shifted over time for me:
“…Success to me has just always kind of been ‘GO GO GO’ and what I realized is, you know, true success is when you can do what you want, and if that means take a pause and say ‘hey, you know what? I’m just not feeling that good today’ or ‘I’m not feeling like doing that today, I need to take a wellness day and just go and sit at the park, or just get my paints out and do something just for me’…and I think that’s okay…I think that’s my definition of success lately…”
There was so much more awesomeness in our conversation and I encouraged you to check it out! Be sure to let me know what you think! They also chose my book Craft a Life You Love as their book club pick of the season, which is just so amazing. Hope you get a chance to listen and be sure to let Amanda and Kristin know what you thought of the episode! XO!

Featured on Raven + Lily

“When women move forward, the world moves with them.” – African Proverb
I was so inspired to be featured in Raven and Lily’s site and journal. We all have that one pair of earrings or necklace that gets all the compliments and catches people’s attention. Raven and Lily’s Zia earrings are like that for me. Whenever I wear them, I get so many comments and questions. Even though they’re a larger size, they are light as a feather and so comfy it feels like there’s nothing weighing me down. Jewelry that is beautiful, unique, and comfortable?? Sign me up! That’s why I am so thrilled to share my feature in @ravenandlily's Fall campaign.
I'm giving away a gold pair of the Zia earrings along with an Ellsworth ring and Essential bangle on my Instagram post.

The best part about each of these pieces is that they are lovingly handmade by women artisans, all of whom earn a living wage and an opportunity to provide for their families by creating these beautiful items. I love it when I get to partner with companies that do their best to make a difference in the world and support women across the globe. That’s why I wanted to share a quote from their website. It sums up so perfectly why it’s such a great company:
“Raven + Lily believes in empowering women. When women are empowered to earn an income, they reinvest 90% of their income back into health, education, food, children, family, and the community. Our partners set the price we pay, ensuring a livable wage. This empowers the 1500+ women employed by our work to break the cycle of poverty through equitable trade and open communication. We research the source of our materials, down to the button in order to understand how our production cycle impacts people and the planet at every stage. By using recycled or repurposed materials, we stop the waste that typically accompanies the industry.”

Hopefully, you feel inspired to check out the brand and enter the giveaway.

Altenew Washi Tape Release Blog Hop + GIVEAWAY!

One of the main things I love about the internet is that if you're ever feeling low on inspiration, bright shiny ideas are just a Google search away. In this case, things are even easier than that because this is a Blog Hop! I'm so excited to be part of Altenew's Washi Tape Release Blog hop. If you’re coming from A Rare Ruby and you’re new here - welcome! Please check out the other blogs in the hop and see the amazing creations people are coming up with all these beautiful tapes.
These washi tapes are so colorful and interesting. When I say they are out of this world, I’m not exaggerating. The second I saw them, I was already planning out new and exciting things to try with them! They come in so many different widths and patterns, you could use one for literally *any* occasion. I used them in three very different projects with incredible results— you can see for yourself below. The first was a scrapbooking page that I created layering the beautiful, cosmically themed washi tapes and placing photos around them later. The effect is so rich and multi-dimensional. I added some doodles, stamping, and hand-lettering to finish it all and really bring the vibrant pinks, purples, and golds together.

The second project was a spread in one of my most recent traveler’s notebooks. You can read all about our family’s adventure RVing along the California Coast. Some of the washi tapes are wide enough to turn into awesome shapes and backgrounds. That’s what I got to play around with here:

And last but not least, I simply tore a strip of the amazing rainbow washi tape and stuck it down the edge of my Hobonichi.

To celebrate this release, Altenew is giving away a $50 gift certificate to 6 lucky winners! Please leave a comment on the Altenew Card Blog and/or Altenew Scrapbook Blog by 10/3/2018 for a chance to win. 6 winners will be announced on the Altenew blogs on 10/6/2018!
GIVEAWAY! A $30 Gift Certificate is also being given away here. Leave a comment and a winner will be chosen and announced on this post on 10/3. Good luck!
The next stop on the hop is the Altenew Scrapbook Blog!

Wellness Wednesday | My Favorite Skincare!

When people ask me what I would do if I wasn’t running Amy Tangerine, I always say that I’d probably be an esthetician. I love taking care of my skin, especially when I find gentle, healthy products that make it easy to stay glowy and acne-free! Even Jack knows never to go outside without a healthy layer of sunscreen all over him.

One of the reasons I love Derma•E products is that they are gentle, clean, and effective. I’ve noticed a dramatic difference in my skin after using them for the past couple of years. I was so happy to get to attend their Zen in the Bev event recently. One of the coolest parts of the event was getting my skin read in a machine. It’s always a good thing to learn new things about your skin and know what products are a good fit for your needs. Aside from getting to glimpse how the skincare of the future might be, I got to lounge poolside and eat popcorn. It was a pretty awesome day!

My skincare is super important to me and I have a couple of favorite products from them which have made a huge difference in the never-ending fight against acne. So I wanted to share my two favorite Derma E products: the purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask and the Advanced Peptides and Collagen Serum.
Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask: This mask is a total game-changer. Charcoal products seem to be everywhere these days— face, teeth, you name it! The mask is very rejuvenating and I’ve seen incredible results after using it.

Advanced Peptides and Collagen: Anti-aging is a super important part of skincare no matter what your actual age may be. The great thing about this serum is how soft my skin feels after I use it. This fights wrinkles and helps plump the skin.
Do you have any favorite skincare secrets or products that help your face glow? Let me know about it.

Zinia's Mosaic Squares
Hello everyone, it’s Zinia here once again and today I’d like to share with you a really fun and colorful page using Amy’s latest collection, Shine On!

hen I first started scrapbooking I was mostly focusing on embellishments for all my layouts and didn’t really embrace the beauty of pattern paper. Since then a lot of things have changed but I know there are a lot of people out there that scrapbook like I did before.
Now don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing bad about scrapbooking focusing on embellishments if that’s what you want but if you are just worried that paper-focused designs are more time consuming I have a really quick and easy design to share with you.

First step is to pick your patterns. If you don’t want to spend time searching for the perfect color/pattern combination, just use papers from a single collection and they will coordinate together perfectly.
Then the only thing you need to do is to use your paper trimmer to cut 1x1” squares. I personally find that the quickest way to do this is to cut 1” strips using a trimmer and then just snip each strip with a pair of scissors.

Once the squares are all cut, use your favorite adhesive and just stick them randomly on the page. This design works great on white background but it’s even more exciting on color cardstock.
After the squares are adhered on the page, the only things that’s left to do is add a few embellishments. I just added some small bits on top of a few of the squares so that the design doesn’t get overwhelming. For my title I just used the front half of the gorgeous shaped cards that come in this collection to add a huge“yay”on my page. This is really such a genius item and a really hope we will see more word-shaped cards in future collections.

So that’s it for today. I really hope you enjoyed this page and that you will give it a go with your favorite sheets of pattern paper.

Until next time, happy crafting.

Let's Celebrate— It's Doodle Day!

It’s Doodle Day— time to really get your creative juices flowing and unleash your inner artist! In honor of the day, I wanted to share this page from my Hobonichi, complete with this amazing stamp of Jack’s face from Paper Afternoon on Etsy. It’s one of my favorite crafting items right now. The lego stamps are also from the same shop and I love them because they are so unique and super super cute! I also had tons of fun using my stencil ruler to create little silhouettes and stars.
Sitting down this morning and drawing out some of my favorite things was super calming and a great way to start off the busy weekend. Doodling can be a great way to help you focus, bring a little extra creativity into your life, and brighten up your day.
Doodle Day isn’t just about making beautiful, random creations in the margins of books or notes in meetings. Although doodling can be an excellent way to organize your thoughts, pass the time, and focus on what’s going on around you. Here’s a quote from www.epilepsy.org that I really found powerful and inspiring:
“Doodles show what kind of people we are because we are free to doodle what and how we like, and we show our individuality through all the choices we make in life. Our clothes, friends, work and interests all say something about us, and so do the language and gestures we use. Doodling is an uninhibited form of self-expression.”
At this point, you might be wondering, what does doodling have to do with Epilepsy? Well, the whole purpose of Doodle Day is to raise support for Epilepsy Awareness. I don’t need much of an excuse to doodle, but who doesn’t love making random art for a good cause!? If you want to know more about how to support Epilepsy awareness or make a donation yourself, you can find out more here: https://www.epilepsy.org.uk/doodle-day
Be sure to share pics of your doodles and let me know, how do you build creativity into your everyday?

You're Invited to a Fun-filled Fundraiser

Many of you comment on all the amazing events I am so blessed to be able to attend. That’s why I am so excited to show you the little invitation I made for City Year Los Angeles and to let you know that yes, YOU are invited. It’s not just good food, drinks, and awesome people. It’s also the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of other people. The event takes place October 18, 2018 and if you’re in Los Angeles during that time, we hope to see you there. It’s a fun-filled fundraiser for City Year– a non-profit that sends hundreds of young people into at-risk public schools across the country. These individuals spend a year tutoring students (1-9th Grade) in English and Math, providing support as tutors, mentors, and role models.

City Year means a lot to me personally because I believe in the mission— to provide every child in America with a quality education and because JC actually served in the inaugural corps in New York City right out of college. More recently, my new assistant finished a term working with City Year in Los Angeles before joining me in the studio. The organization is all about positivity, making a difference, and bringing just a little more joy into the lives of others. That’s why I jumped at the opportunity when City Year approached me about designing the invitation for this incredible fundraiser. After all, how often do you get to create beautiful art for a company you believe in?!? So, what do you think of the invite? Will you be joining me in October? Let me know in the comments!

Violeta's Folder Scrapbook
Hello!
I am thrilled to be here again in Amy’s blog sharing my scrapbooking projects.

I have created a very simple folder to store my scrapbook layouts, also you can store scrapbook papers and other materials in this folder.

To make this folder you only need cardboard of 12x12 inches, a cardboard of 3x12 inches and two more cardboards of 2x12 inches.

You only have to place the first cardboard of 12x12 inches, then, the cardboard of 2x12 inches, and after that another cardboard of 12x12 inches and then the cardboard of 2x12 inches and lastly the cardboard of 3x12 inches.

The 12x12 cardboard pieces will be glued with a 12x12 paper on each side. We will unite the rest of the cardboard pieces with some scrap paper stripes. In this case from the last collection of Amy Tangerine, “Sunshine & Good Times”. The paper stripes should be a bit wider than the cardboard size so they can be glued to the other pieces.

That way we will have a simple folder with only one flap. To close the folder we are going to use some paper clips and to decorate the folder we are going to use some pompoms from the “Sunshine & Good Times” collection because they are very funny.

Finally, using some Thickers we will place the word “Happy” and the word “Scrap” so we know that it is the folder for our scrapbook materials.

It is very easy to make this folder, you only have to use some cardboard and cover them with your favorite scrapbook papers, no doubt Amy Tangerine’s ones are perfect!

10 Creative Ways to Fill in Your Journal

As much as I love spending quality time journaling and decorating my pages each and every single day, sometimes life gets in the way. Even though I’ve made it a part of my daily practice to carve out at least 10 minutes to get creative, I find myself falling behind. Clusters of blank spaces pop up throughout my pages. In the past this is when I usually abandon a project (or sketchbook…. I have tons that I started strong with the first few pages, but have just left me feeling as empty as the neglected blank pages that follow). Sometimes we just need simple solutions to play catch up. Get into the mindset of using your supplies, feeling the freedom of putting beautiful things to use instead of letting them sit in a forgotten desk drawer. Sometimes, the simple solutions look best. It can be easy to overthink the process. Instead of thinking about what will look exactly right or perfect, focus on what you like and what looks good to you. Sometimes, it might be that sparkly washi tape that you just really like or a cute sticker shaped like a happy strawberry. Whatever it may be, pay attention to that initial reaction– does it make you smile when you look at it? If so, chances are that it belongs in your journal.

Add stickers. In the past, I hoarded them for the perfect occasion, not wanting to use them up. Just like any other craft supply however, these are meant to be used! If you don’t have good stickers, I highly recommend my sticker book or the Pipsticks sticker subscription. Use the code CRAFTLOVE for 15% off your first order.
Cut up magazines. There’s no wrong way to do this. That pile of dusty magazines in the corner of your living area is definitely begging to be carved up. It’s a great way to fill up those empty spaces in your journal. Plus, once you’ve harvested all you can get from a magazine, you can declutter and send the leftovers straight to recycling! If the choice between cleaning or journaling comes up, ask yourself, why not try for both?
Add things you get in the mail. You know the inserts you never asked for; the inexplicable mailers you don’t remember signing up to receive. Sometimes, the unasked for papers actually contain hidden gems.
Movie stubs, business cards and other things you picked up throughout your day. You know all those things that end up at the bottom of your purse? Well, they could be the missing decorations you need to complete a page or spread.
Cute doodles. The most important thing to remember with this is that doodles aren’t supposed to look any specific way. They are unique, imperfect, and great for filling up those open spaces. You can use any pen or marker to draw them and if you want inspiration, look at instagram or Pinterest to see other doodles people have created. I have a favorite doodle book if you're looking for even more inspiration. Remember, it doesn’t have to be complicated. A heart, flower, or star can look really good in the right place. You could even try memory doodles. Sketch out a specific thing you remember from that day. It can be as simple as the cup of coffee you drank in the morning.
Washi Tape. In times of doubt, keep it simple. This is what washi tape is for! It’s inexpensive and there are so many beautiful designs. If you want to get more creative with it, layer the washi tape or create your own design with multiple types of tape.
Printed photos. You know those photos you get at some events? This is the perfect place for them. Or if you want to print them at home, I love using the Prynt Pocket or HP Sprocket because it’s a sticker print. The Instax printer is great too, but is slightly thicker than other prints. Small photos make it easy to fill up a blank space. Plus, these images are often very meaningful and hold special memories.
Look up favorite quotes on Pinterest and write them in. This is one of my go-to methods. Certain quotes can capture how you felt at the time, important things you want to remember, and ideas that are especially meaningful for you. Try out new fonts and colors. You can place tiny quotes in the margins, fill entire pages with quotes. Get creative. Get messy. Try out new things. Check out my "Word" Board on Pinterest for inspiration and ideas!
Practice your lettering by recording motivational or inspiring quotes that fit your mood. This is a little like step 8, but I recommend looking in different places for this one. Do you have a favorite motivational book, podcast or TED Talk? Whatever form it may take, refer to it as you work on your journal or planner and copy down the quotes or segments that speak to you the most. You’ll be surprised at how meaningful this can become. Use colorful markers and pens. You can add texture and pattern with various colors and drawings. Adding diagonal lines, diamond patterns, squares, or even cross-hatching can enhance any empty spaces in your journal.
Have a friend or loved one add a note to your journal. If your creative juices are a little tapped out, ask someone to write something for you! A simple little note or thought can add so much to your pages and take off some of the pressure.
As you work on your notebook, journal or other awesome paper project, just remember, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts - in other words, done is better than perfect and when you look back on your work, you’ll be so glad you got things recorded. Which of these 10 tips are you most excited to try? Let me know in the comments and be sure to take a look at the video!

Three Deepest Desires

Throughout my nearly 20 years as a creative entrepreneur, I’ve learned so many things - some of them the easy way and some of them the hard way. Now that I am approaching a huge milestone in both business and life, I’m continually pursuing my three deepest desires: fulfillment, freedom, and fun. Before I start any new projects, I ask myself, “does this fit into at least one of the three F’s?” If it does, I’m all in. If not, I move on, allowing space for bigger and better things. I haven’t always had such clarity on the pursuits that make me happy though. It’s come through a lot of struggles, soul searching, making messes, and deep introspection. I’m still a work in progress, but here are my top 3 tips for feeling care-free while being fearless in the pursuit of what makes you shine.
Let go of perfection. No one is perfect. Do your best and enjoy the process. The thing about perfectionism is that it goes hand-in-hand with another “p” word– procrastination. Putting something off until it’s perfect means that it will most likely never be completed. Pursuing an unattainable goal prevents you from sharing your gifts with the world.
Learn from failure. You win some, you learn some. There’s always a lesson you can take away. Giving up is easy; sticking with something and working through the negative emotions a failure can stir up is hard, complicated work. Not every single thing I’ve attempted in my career has worked the way I hoped. That doesn’t mean I should stop taking risks or dreaming big. On the contrary, a failure can teach me more about how to be successful in the future.
Be yourself. Everyone has a unique story to tell. Everyone is on a unique path. Be authentic and unafraid to share your gifts. Draw inspiration from others— no real art or content is created in a vacuum— but don’t undercut your special personality or flare. You have a lot to add to this world. Let your light shine, flaws and all.
What are your three deepest desires? What direction are your intuitions taking you? Let me know in the comments!
