LMB books in Korea
Among this week's postal treats were my author's copies of the first two Vorkosiverse books in Korean. SIAT has pretty much bought the whole set, and more will be along in due course. I am amazed to receive them so quickly; the ink was barely dry on the contracts.
I did receive a fan letter from a Korean fellow who remarked that many South Korean male friends of his who have had to put in a stint of army service along the DMZ found the Camp Permafrost section of The Vor Game to be very easy to relate to. Some things are universal, I suspect.

And the back, for those who read Korean:

And the front of Barrayar:

Hugo breakdown
No, not what happens to overstressed nominees -- the 2013 voting stats.
Voting and Nomination breakout here (warning, .pdf)

Hugo voting explanation here (it's not as simple as the work that gets the most votes wins)

You will have to get someone else to explain the arcana of the Australian ranked ballot -- it took me years to figure out, and I'm still a bit blurry on it.

back safe, new LMB interview
Hiya --
It's too late tonight to say anything but Hi, I flew back safely from San Antonio and boy are my arms tired, but among the (many) other high points of the WorldCon was a one-hour interview I did with a local journalist on Friday afternoon, now boiled down to this neat article.

I will post more as the week and I wear on. It was a very good WorldCon!

BayCon interview repost
I'm off to the WorldCon in San Antonio tomorrow (which starts very shortly, incidentally).
http://www.lonestarcon3.org/
For those who can't be there, here is a repost of the convention interview I did at the beginning of this swift summer, at BayCon.
http://swordandlaser.com/home/2013/6/...
I may not have time for any more posts -- I still have to make a store run, pack, and generally pre-organize. Anyway, enjoy the holiday weekend!

Croatian cover art
With all the Bujold cover art discussion, here's more, from Algoritam. I ran across this at random; I'd only seen the art with the lettering cluttering it up, before.

Just wondering...
I fly off to San Antonio on Thursday.
So why does weather.com have a headliner about an airplane crash every day, even if they have to go back 20, 30, even 50 years to dredge one up?
Alternated with lists of distant vacation spots, mind you. Is this some kind of evil psychological experiment...?

LMB's LoneStarCon 3 schedule
WorldCon (and the end of this too-short summer) is coming right up...
http://www.lonestarcon3.org/
My panels and appearances:
Where there's a Will there's a Way: Reproductive Technology, Medical Ethics and the Law
Friday 11:00 - 12:00
How can you arrange for your un-conceived child to inherit your possessions? What are the medical, ethical and legal implications of modern reproductive practices such as surrogate parenting, IVF after the male spouse is dead, and the use of sperm banks?
Tore Hoie (M), Lois McMaster Bujold, W. A. (Bill) Thomasson, Sam Scheiner.
If Corporations Are People...
Friday 17:00 - 18:00
What makes for a successful corporatocracy? Can companies be successful and be humane as well? Or will the term become meaningless in such a context? Will there ever be a corporate death penalty? Can a society or a civilization turn into one, or does it have to begin that way?
Will Frank (M), Mark Oshiro, Melinda M. Snodgrass, Paul Herman, Lois McMaster Bujold
Bujold's Vorkosigan Universe
Saturday 11:00 - 12:00
Steve Jackson (M), Lillian Stewart Carl, John O'Halloran, Trina Marie Phillips
[I am not actually on this panel; I'm not sure if hanging out in the audience would benefit or impede it.]
An Hour with Lois McMaster Bujold
Saturday 14:00 - 15:00
Discussion, plus audience Q&A.
Lillian Stewart Carl, Lois McMaster Bujold
Writing Combat
Saturday 17:00 - 18:00
How do you integrate combat into your writing? How do you make it believable? At what point do you reach a state of Too Much Information? How do different audiences affect your style? A look at writing fight scenes, from personal fisticuffs to fleet engagements and everything in between.
Elizabeth Moon (M), Elizabeth Bear, Martha Wells, Jean Johnson, Lois McMaster Bujold
Autographing: Lois McMaster Bujold, Vylar Kaftan, Nancy Kress, Leigh Perry
Sunday 11:00 - 12:00
Kaffeeklatsch: Lois McMaster Bujold
Sunday 15:00 - 16:00
(And then the Hugos Sunday night. Whew!)

LMB news tid-bit of the day
This was announced:
http://www.niutoday.info/2013/08/19/n...
NIU wins the stuff in my basement not for any past association of mine with them, but because Lynne Thomas, the only Hugo-winning librarian I know, offered to drive to my house and get them. Now, that's service.
We're not yet done unloading -- she took what she could fit in during her last two convention trips to Minneapolis. She promises to come back in the fall with a biggerboat van and schlep the rest.
