CVA mmpb scheduled

I recently received cover flats for the mass market paperback of Captain Vorpatril's Alliance. Amazon gives its pub date as August 26.

The foil never does scan very well, alas. How visible and/or striking it is on a bookstore rack tends to depend on the angle of the light striking it.

Another view here...

I see it has the "Look Inside" feature, always a plus.

Speaking of e-book marketing, I have lately learned how to use the "Let us send your Kindle a free sample" (which I think duplicates the "Look Inside" offering), and found it very nice indeed for armchair shopping. All I need is a float chair, and I can live like the characters in Wall-E.

yet another list

Netizens seem to be endlessly amused by lists. This one is interesting, if a touch surreal from my POV:

http://www.listchallenges.com/authors...

Clearly, if I ever need a male pseudonym, I should pick "Robert". Though deciding on "Bujold" instead of "McMaster" was probably a good choice, as it falls higher in any alphabetically arranged list. Which is why my phiz is first here, I believe, among my same-number-cohort.

e-readers and related subjects

Good post (as usual) by Jo Walton on Tor.com...

http://www.tor.com/blogs/2014/03/how-...

I bought a Kindle Paperwhite last spring, and I find I am using it more and more, especially now I've figured out how to use my county library's Overdrive service.

Having hauled out over 80 grocery bags of books this past winter during downsizing, there is a new and deep appeal to the idea of never having to fret over how or whether to store or get rid of books. Being able to obtain them 24/7 without leaving my house is also very useful.

And, having given myself tennis elbow (!) a few winters ago from pinching open paperbacks, having a way to read that's easier on my hands is also a big plus.

Toward the bottom of Jo's post was another fascinating (and hilarious) link on libraries, which deserves note:

Carl books addendum

I should add, most of Lillian's backlist is available in e-format, as ferex:

http://www.amazon.com/Lillian-Stewart...

I see the first book of the Scottish mystery series (well, the most recent one -- Lillian likes Scotland the way I like lakes), The Secret Portrait, is available at a bargain price, too.

2014 Audie noms give nod to CVA

This link was forwarded to me...

"Congratulations on your AUDIE nomination for Captain Vorpatril's Alliance. Link is below - then scroll down to Science Fiction.
Cheers!"

http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by...

The list being in alphabetical order by genre, one must scroll down quite a long way to get to "science fiction", but there are some other interesting and familiar names to be found en route.

Congrats, too, to Grover Gardner and Blackstone Audio (aka www.downpour.com ), who, literally, do the work to make me heard.

"The Mountains of Mourning" chapbook

Arc Manor, a small press that also puts out the magazine Galaxy's Edge, is doing a series of novella reprints on paper for their Phoenix Pick imprint; they picked up "The Mountains of Mourning" for it. My author's copies arrived in today's mail.

Here's a cover scan:

At a quick glance, it is very nicely printed and put together. The size and style is often called "chapbook", I believe; essentially a slim (a bit under 100 pages)trade paperback.

More information on the publisher is available at www.PhoenixPick.com

In other news, I have just signed a contract with a publisher from the Netherlands -- let me copy this very carefully -- Uitgeverij Elikser -- to do The Hallowed Hunt in the Frisian language -- a first in that language for me, I believe. Collect the whole set!

Lego Space -- Building the Future

So, I was sent a copy of this:

http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Space-Buil...

And could only be (slightly) sorry my son was no longer 6. He used to build the most amazing Duplo dinosaurs at about that age.

And then there was the on-going parental adventure of stepping on the things... little plastic caltrops, all over the floors.

new(ish) Aaronovitch is out!

The 4th volume in the excellent Rivers of London contemporary fantasy series is finally out in US release --

http://www.amazon.com/Broken-Homes-Ri...

However, if you haven't encountered this series yet, you need to start with the first volume, US title Midnight Riot.

Ignore the cover/s. Although my readers hardly need to be told that.
