rule of cupboard cleaning

If it is so old that it predates the invention of sell-by dates, it is past its sell-by date.

Just sayin'...

"Spring in Geneva"

My friend Sylvia Kelso has an amusing new novella out -- call it "alternate literary history".

It was the narrator's voice that made it for me, though other readers might like other sly aspects, of which it has several.

vintage guitar

In a fit of decluttering, I put my old guitar up on eBay. After 50 years, I don't think I'm going to get any better (Miles gets his total lack of musical talent from me), but it's too nice an old instrument not to be played.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1963-...?

Although I was somewhat taken aback by my long-ago teen Christmas present now being dubbed "vintage".

It was, ultimately, a result of having seen John Williams in concert back in Columbus sometime in the early 60s. I actually ran across the program book I'd had signed, the other day.

the Prometheus list comes round again

... and Falling Free is on it, once more. It seems to be a perennial nominee for this, for reasons that escape me.

another good Pat post

Pat Wrede has a good blog post on understanding and managing viewpoint today...

http://pcwrede.com/you-have-viewpoint...

Best of all, it has a link to her particularly excellent viewpoint handout, developed some years back for her writing students. I'm glad she finally got that up on-line. Very useful, and not only for beginning writers.

new e-reader stuffers

At some point, e-readers must achieve market saturation, but we don't seem to be quite there yet. So for all of you who have just unwrapped your new Kindles, iPads, and Nooks, here are some handy links for e-reader-stuffers:

iPad US:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/lo...

iPad UK:

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/artist/lo...

Amazon US:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_...

Amazon UK:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_s...

B&N US:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/s/lois-...

And, now, Nook UK:

http://www.nook.com/gb/search?utf8=%E...

And all the other amazing new country Amazons -- Japan, Brazil, Mexico, India(!), much of Europe, but I will let folks explore those on their own. (And do report back your experiences -- I would be fascinated.)

Happy reading, all the world over!

good Winterfair wishes to all

... especially those also currently suffering winter.

For those who have come along recently (and a reminder for the rest), here is the link to the Bujold reading order guide as it is currently constituted, suitable for trotting out wherever those questions arise:

https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/...

Not to cut short potentially amusing or fruitful discussions or anything. But I can recognize the Bujold reading-order debate in languages I cannot even identify, just by the way the book titles fall on the screen. So some sort of aid does seem called for.

bests, Lois.

Wrede on Writing Goodreads give-away

...may be found here.

https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...

Only five copies to be given away, but, you know, I'll bet the publisher would be willing to sell you an unlimited number...
