Aha!

Paladin of Souls is now up as a direct-placement e-book in the UK iTunes/iPad stores... and worldwide in the open market, iirc.

one day left to grab Humble Bundle

Almost exactly 24 hours left as I type this.

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Sale ends Wednesday afternoon. Pass the word promptly if you plan to...

It's been quite an interesting experiment, so far. I'll be fascinated to see what it all looks like as the dust settles. It doesn't look as though we'll beat the first e-book bundle, which raked in an impressive grand total of $1.2 mil (I was hoping), but it still looks quite respectable over all.

I have no idea how this result compares the HB's usual game bundles. But it will certainly beat the heck out of those little checks I sent to the SFWA medical fund each year.

"Weatherman" Analog cover art for sale

Now, here's a blast from the past...

A friend forwarded me this link.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lois-McMaster...

If the information is correct, the money would go to the actual artist, and not a middleperson. So I'll pass this along.

"Weatherman" was almost a Hugo nominee in the novella category, back in its day, but I withdrew it in favor of The Vor Game, of which it was an out-take. Writers having different works in two categories in the same year is not that uncommon, but having the same work in two categories seemed a bit much.

transcript of Reddit-Humble Bundle joint interview

Here is where one can find the joint interview we did for Humble Bundle today:

http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments...

It went fairly smoothly, I think. It's a bit intensive, with all those questions coming at the authors so quickly. HB has a photo of Peter Beagle typing away, taken in their West Coast office this afternoon:

Just five days left to grab a bargain, here.

My current trade paper copy of The Last Unicorn was previously owned by Gordon R. Dickson, by the way.

LMB in Reddit IAmA for Humble Bundle July 11th

So...

Tomorrow, at 12:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time (which will be 11:30 AM here in Central, other time zones calibrate as needed) I will be taking part in a Reddit... thing, on our Humble e-Book Bundle's behalf. I gather that it is a species of on-line chat or Q&A session.

11 Jul 12:30pm Cory Doctorow, Peter Beagle, Connor Cochran, and Lois Bujold Humble eBooks Bundle AMA Part 1

They will have more of their participants a little later in the afternoon, as well.

http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/

And I am dragged just a bit further into the 21st Century. Let's see what happens...

Humble Bundle sweetens the pot

As promised, at the halfway point Humble Bundle has thrown four more cool books into their deal for those willing to beat the average price, and why not? For some excellent causes, ranging from the SFWA medical fund to Cherie Priest's new roof (shades of Vorkosigan House, tho' I trust her roof was a less monstrous undertaking).

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Go check out the four new titles. xkcd! & etc.

Humble Bundle Day 4

Or 5. Depends on how you count it, but it says 10 days to go on their seductive little counter right now. Coming up on 31,000 bundles downloaded by this afternoon!

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Do please spread this link around. Some part of the gaming community may know all about this, but I'd never heard of it before I was approached to participate, which suggests the word could still stand to be got out to other corners of the Net. It would be fun if we could beat the stats of the prior e-book bundle, which had, I was told, about 84,000 downloads by the end of its two-week run.

Otherwise, a quiet afternoon, hot and humid as only the Midwest can be. Lynne Thomas, the only Hugo-winning librarian I know, just stopped by on her way home from ConVergence to pick up another load of old papers out of my basement, which the U. of Northern Illinois is going to house. She promises to come back for the rest with a truck in the fall. And, with luck, a husky grad student to do the heavy lifting. I sure never want to move all those boxes again! It's all a bit surreal, from my point of view. But it does relieve the pack rat in me of a dilemma.

Curse of Chalion now up on UK iTunes

Aha!

The Curse of Chalion is now up in the UK iTunes store, as well...

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/the-...

This direct-placement e-book edition is only in the UK iTunes store -- the US store has the Eos edition, just as good.

Humble Bundle, Day 2

Well, this continues fascinating...

Link: http://www.humblebundle.com/

Pass it along! It's a good deal, and it only lasts 13 more days.

It isn't quite 24,000 downloads in 24 hours, but an optimistic sort of rounding squint puts it in that ballpark. Which is more books than I've ever sold in a day in my life, even if one is statistically meticulous and divides it by 6, assuming that 5 out of 6 people bought the bundle for some of its other cool content. (But we like these people, because they may get around to looking over Shards of Honor in some later, idle moment, and create a chance to hook a whole new reader, entirely outside of my prior charmed circle.)

To put it in perspective, one of my friends, calculating Tolkien's sales over a half century, found: "the estimated cumulative sale is now c.150 million copies [which] means that over the next 48 years it has averaged sales of more than 3 million copies per annum -- or c.8,500 per day."

Somehow, I don't think we're going to have Tolkien's legs, but the pop is still great fun while it lasts.

And the SFWA medical fund is a charity I feel quite strongly about, as I can still remember a bit too vividly what it was like to be a struggling writer, strapped and without health insurance. Yeah.

May the Fourth be with you...
