Yesterday I found myself in the mood for getting off my computer work and reading something; started reading the last unicorn (liked the film but this is just not fun reading or story) and just because I picked it next, did read Shards.
I would not put it on my all time favorite list - sorry ;) - but I definitely put it on my "hei, I like reading this!". Today I ordered 4 on amazon.de (omnibus but new sales) after reading the first and looking following up with kindle sample of the second. My aunt and I shared similar tastes - if she still would be alive I would have recommend this to her and thus HB would have turned her into a reader too. I can see also that I will look / read you other work.
So, all in all: Yes HB works, and is especially useful for a writer like yourself who has a consistent universe with some story line where the reader is able to discover "hei - I liked that. And there is more!". :)
Which is why it was also helpful to have that blog post about the right order.

Ah, thank you for the feedback! Very heartening.
I hope you find Barrayar or maybe one of the fantasies hits your spot. I do love how the advent of e-books has flattened all the old barriers to getting books distributed in the world.
(And the read-inside features are wonderful. At last books can sell on content and not just packaging.)
bests, Lois.
