Humble Bundle, Day 2

Well, this continues fascinating...

Pass it along! It's a good deal, and it only lasts 13 more days.

It isn't quite 24,000 downloads in 24 hours, but an optimistic sort of rounding squint puts it in that ballpark. Which is more books than I've ever sold in a day in my life, even if one is statistically meticulous and divides it by 6, assuming that 5 out of 6 people bought the bundle for some of its other cool content. (But we like these people, because they may get around to looking over Shards of Honor in some later, idle moment, and create a chance to hook a whole new reader, entirely outside of my prior charmed circle.)

To put it in perspective, one of my friends, calculating Tolkien's sales over a half century, found: "the estimated cumulative sale is now c.150 million copies [which] means that over the next 48 years it has averaged sales of more than 3 million copies per annum -- or c.8,500 per day."

Somehow, I don't think we're going to have Tolkien's legs, but the pop is still great fun while it lasts.

And the SFWA medical fund is a charity I feel quite strongly about, as I can still remember a bit too vividly what it was like to be a struggling writer, strapped and without health insurance. Yeah.

May the Fourth be with you...

Ta, L.

K Thanks for the head's up. While I've read all your books, it was a great deal to pick up some others that definitely look interesting!

Warren C. Hi! I bought the Bundle mainly because of Shards of Honor. It's one of your books i haven't read yet and I am glad to get a hold of it. Actually, I've finished it. It may be the first book you wrote, but I really couldn't tell. I enjoyed it very much and find the Humble Bundles (of all sorts) very good purchases. Gracias!

Nicole Simon Lois, I thought you might like some comment back from a reader which previously has not read you or heard about you. I actually bought the HB more because of "I like the general idea, heck it is for a good cause, and it is only $10" and mostly because I wanted to read 'just a geek' anyhow.

Yesterday I found myself in the mood for getting off my computer work and reading something; started reading the last unicorn (liked the film but this is just not fun reading or story) and just because I picked it next, did read Shards.

I would not put it on my all time favorite list - sorry ;) - but I definitely put it on my "hei, I like reading this!". Today I ordered 4 on amazon.de (omnibus but new sales) after reading the first and looking following up with kindle sample of the second. My aunt and I shared similar tastes - if she still would be alive I would have recommend this to her and thus HB would have turned her into a reader too. I can see also that I will look / read you other work.

So, all in all: Yes HB works, and is especially useful for a writer like yourself who has a consistent universe with some story line where the reader is able to discover "hei - I liked that. And there is more!". :)

Which is why it was also helpful to have that blog post about the right order.

Greetings from Berlin, Germany
Nicole

Ah, thank you for the feedback! Very heartening.

I hope you find Barrayar or maybe one of the fantasies hits your spot. I do love how the advent of e-books has flattened all the old barriers to getting books distributed in the world.

(And the read-inside features are wonderful. At last books can sell on content and not just packaging.)

bests, Lois.
