Killing Time now available!

Killing Time Killing Time by Jane Davitt an urban fantasy by Alexa and me, is out today from Loose Id. New book days are always a thrill.

You can get it and read an excerpt here and it's also on Amazon here

As ever, writing with Alexa was nothing but the best fun ever. We won't forget this book; our editor pointed out that we had quite a few names starting with 'J' and did we want to change some. I think there were about eight in the end that we had to change, and we don't know how we did it without noticing :-)

Max and Kaelan, best friends and business partners for five years, are powerful casters with a tendency to get themselves into and out of all kinds of trouble. Pretty much the only thing they've been able to avoid is getting romantically involved – until now. Their sexual attraction hits them like a runaway fireball and they can't keep their hands off each other.

While their sexual attraction burns out of control, they've attracted the attention of a dark caster named Jannes who's planning a spell so potent that it could end the world. To keep them off balance, he's targeting Max and Kaelan through those they love, and there's no one they love more than each other.

With friends and family to protect and their only allies a group of casters who find it easier to fight than cooperate, the odds are stacked against them. So can Max and Kaelan keep it together and stop Jannes before he ends the world, or is the best they can do just killing time?

Killing Time teaser

Killing Time comes out a week today, so here's a little non-spoilery taste of it ;-)

He glanced around the room, glad the air was clear, even if their opponents had fled. “Evil has left the building,” he muttered.

“With your help, yeah.”

Attack or apologize? Always an easy choice, but because he hated being predictable, Kaelan threw in humor and a smirk. “Look, I’m not sure what happened with your cloaking thing—nice way of adapting a shield, by the way—but we all have performance issues from time to time. Don’t beat yourself up about— Hey!”

The finger poking his chest hurt, but he set his jaw and held his ground, exchanging the smirk for a glare. Green eyes shouldn’t sizzle, but the ones glaring back at him were doing just that.

“If I turned you into a mouse and got the cat to come back and eat you, it’d play hell with my karmic balance, but it’d be worth it.” The flat, cultured voice made each word a slap across the face, stinging, contemptuous. “Fucking amateur. Do you know how long I’ve been tracking that pair? Weeks. Weeks. And now they’ve seen me.”

“Traumatic for them, but they’ll recover.” Kaelan jerked his chin up. “And yeah, I don’t charge for it, but I’ve been casting since kindergarten, and I’m good at it, so unless you want to wear your lungs on the outside of your manly chest, lose the attitude, Abercrombie.”

Free Read; Cat Scratch Fever

Cat Scratch Fever is a short story of mine from 2008, previously published by Torquere and now out of print. I made a few tiny changes and added it to my free reads here.

Garin's having a bad day. He doesn't use his magic very often, because his human lover Simon doesn't like it, but sometimes it just builds up inside him. Like today. Which is why, when he's faced with a health inspector and a wayward cat, he ends up with a magical debacle. Suddenly, he has to deal with Tom, who used to be a cat, a very angry Simon, and the problem of trying to get Tom back where he belongs. Can Garin fix the problem with Tom, and with Simon's distrust in his magic, in time to set everything back to rights?

Killing Time cover

Alexa and I got the cover for Killing Time and we've thrilled to bits with it. The artist is Mina Clay and she did an incredible job with it.

Reading Between the Lines released today

A short story of mine, Reading Between the Lines, comes out today from Torquere. It was in a 2008 collection of short stories, Kegs and Dorms. That's OOP now.

I revised the story a little since I had the chance but it's essentially the same so don't buy it if you've already read it :-)

Forced to room with a student who hates him on sight, Seth's expecting a rocky semester, and falling for the surly Gabe only adds to his troubles. Gabe's past is full of secrets, a closed book, but can Seth find the way to Gabe's heart by reading between the lines?

Book sale/Giveaway

To celebrate the birthday of Jay, who runs the Joyfully Jay review site, Loose Id asked her to pick 15 of her favorite LI titles. From now until Sunday night, all fifteen are on sale, and if you go to Jay's blog post here you can comment to be entered for a chance to win one of them.

And I'm delighted to see that a book by Alexa and me is on the list; The Square Peg. Jay says,

This is another one of those enemies to lovers stories (are you seeing a theme here, lol) with Ben as the staid accountant who inherits half a gay bar from his estranged father. The other half is owned by the sexy Shane who has no interest in sharing responsibility with Ben. But eventually their fighting turns into loving they are on their way to making it work together. I love how this story turns things around in that the smaller, somewhat blander Ben is the real leader of this pair and is a bit of a bossy top in bed. Two manage to turn the bar around and fall in love in the process. I really loved this story (and was reminded how much I like this writing pair). Great set up, great characters, and really enjoyable story. The Square Peg (The Square Peg #1) by Jane Davitt
