There Will Be Context, But Not Today
This morning, I am hated. Storms are coming, and rooms will be cleaned; evil gatekeeper I, with the television and internet to withhold. You'd think I was keeping them from oxygen.
And I am going to work a solid six hour day, at least. Ideally more. And play my favorite game, which is get my clients to pay me so I can pay my bills. Of course, now that I've decided this, we will most likely lose power and have dramatic amounts of rain. I can already hear the thunder; rain is falling gently n...

I loved her, and now she is gone.
You could not know Anne and not love her. I only knew her a little; we talked for hours one rainy Adirondack morning about life, love, and what it takes to make it as a writer in this world. Her house had a lush, luxuriant avocado vine growing up the side of it. Her dog bit me, but only a little. He had neon orange ribbons tied to his collar, so hunters and wayward drivers would not get him.
She was made of joy and stubbornness, in equal parts. Charmingly tenacious, brilliantly strong. She ...

Saturday Makes Everything Better
I had a little crystal dish that I was passing fond of. It was a handy size; it held the things that I would not lose: shiny bits of glass, feathers found along the trail, some casino chips I'd yet to cash in and twenty years out of date.
And this dish got broken, and I was sad about that for a while. And I wondered where I'd put these little treasures. Would they slip away from me? Would they get lost in the chaos of life? Am I too busy now to worry about shattered rainbows and flight's fal...

A Nifty Dream House

Friday Morning
And I've a boatload to do; it is a good thing, perhaps, that the rain clouds are rolling in. That way I won't be talked into going over to the stream 'just for a while'. I can write there, of course, but it's easier to focus here.
But let's shake out the brain a bit, and then start the day.
Like the rest of the internet, apparently, I've read about Bristol Palin's memoir and what it says about her relationship with Levi. There's a story she recounts that sounds an awful lot like rape (mainly be...

Quote of the Day
Storms make oaks take deeper root.

This is a very good thought for me today. I thought maybe you all would like it too.

Monday Morning
And oh, how having the children home disrupts everything. Productivity, I remember thee...the first week of vacation is always wonky anyway, as we all get used to having each other around. Then it will be smooth sailing.
Tim has started on a wonderful patio out front. Tonight, we will have a little bonfire. In between, lots to do. I just need a clone, a day planner, and I think high-test rocket fuel to make it all happen.
First I want to tell you what happened this morning.

And here we go...
It's been an upside down day. Tim's fast asleep after a night and day of fighting fires and participating in the parade; the rain has finally moved out and now it's sunny and beautiful. As soon as I can get Nadia to stop being "Mom Mom MOM MOM MOMMMM MOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" I'll be able to get some work done. Tonight is editing, editing, and editing some more. It will be very good to have things DONE.

Friday Morning
And I've had a late start to the day; two articles are done and out the door, there remains much to do. It's a rainy sort of day. Nadia's home now from her last day of school. Summer is officially here.
I wonder what it will be like after the children are grown, and my days are no longer defined by the schedule of the school bus. Will I notice the season's passing quite the same way? Will time unwind differently? Will super snowy mornings be a source of joy - or at least of relief of fallin...
