Phew!
It has been a week. Quite a week. But the weekend's coming: I can almost see it from where I sit.
Yesterday I had a chance to stop at a grocery store I don't usually get to visit. It's all very "Support Local Farmers!", organic veggies, and for some reason, oodles of large, expensive marble statues. Local organic zucchini was selling for $2.95/pound. This boggles my brain. If only I could get $3/pound for my zucchini - not only would I be able to fund my children's college education, I'd b...

Monday Morning Thinky Thoughts
Anything done properly becomes a prayer. Not sure if that was Brother Lawrence who said that, or someone else, but it's a good reminder that it is possible to have too much reverence. There must be room in one's daily practice for both contemplation and for action.
I'm very good at the contemplation part. Not so great with the action. I know lots of people who are the total opposite: they get so much done. It boggles my brain. Do you ever have the feeling that you're swimming in honey; that ...

Just for today
Just for today, I'm going to let love guide me.
Just for today, I'm going to be a joy-hunter.
Just for today, I'm going to revel in the moment.
Just for today, I'm going to let the bullshit do what it was meant to do: fertilize the flowers.
Just for today, it will be enough.
Just for today, I'm going to act like I have a wonderful life full of magnificence; that I have the power and skill to handle any problems that come my way; that there is time to watch cartoons.
Just for today, it will all ...

Getting Started, Again
The fact that the restaurant is serving up a fail-sauce buffet does not obligate one to heap one's plate with it. One can always order off the menu.
I knew a person once who always made a point of ordering something not on the menu. Nothing stupid extravagant, just simple little things like "Is there a way I could get a BLT?" or "I'd like a grilled cheese". Having come up at least tangentially to the food service industry, this tendency would always piss me off - why in the world would you inc...

Rise and Shine
Happy birthday, birthday boy!
On the premise that it is always easier to find things when you are actively looking for them, I spent a little bit last night looking for omens that today would, in fact, be a better day. Pop culture came through in spades (and I think there should be a special name for augury performed by reading People magazine and watching e! news as one's tawdry tea leaves) by delivering news that there will be football and a new Conan movie.

Wow.
I'd had an entry about how messed up I am about the kittens dying and the reaction of others to that event, namely Mama Kitty and the kids, but LJ ate it and upon reflection that is probably for the best.
Instead, I will tell you that I've delivered some rhubarb, and that it might rain, and that I am going to hie me hence to the outdoor office, where the robin's nest has plummeted to the earth and is now also empty, and work on the final chapter of the ghost book, and that tomorrow will be a ...

Letters For the Daughters: Stepping on Bumblebees
Here is an imperative: you must be the agent of change in your life. Remember always that you can make decisions, that you can make choices. If nothing else, you can choose where you're going to direct your attention. That's such a critical aspect of life, yet it's easy to forget.
I forgot that yesterday, and was having quite a bit of a bad day. Railing against fate, cursing the finite nature of human existence, that sort of thing. My anger and my despair completely controlled my attention. An...

Wednesday Morning
It's going to be incredibly hot today; temperatures are projected to be above 90. I realize this isn't hot by the standards of much of the country lately, but it's more than enough to slow us all down. The curtains are all drawn, the house shut up, fans running, the home transformed into a cool retreat from the brutal sun.
I've much to do today and have just a wee while before I must go do it. I'm loving the Google doodle today - though it reminds me that the peas must be picked, must be pick...

Tuesday Morning
I think, and I am not at all sure it is possible to dissuade me from this position, that there is no finer breakfast to be had on a hot July morning than a bowl heaped high with cubes of fresh, cold watermelon. This is the kind of fruit that people write poetry about.
It may just be that I'm in love with refrigeration. This morning I was more than ready to sing the rhapsodies of crisp, cold iceberg lettuce - I'd snatched a few leaves whilst making Tim's lunch and they were delicious, far beyo...

I lied; I have to answer this one.
YES. I'm not sure about the final destination, but you need ground under your feet and so much distance between your history and your present sooner rather than later. That particular destination is home to a friend of mine, and being poor-prudent me, I might suggest something less pricey, but that's a money question, and I'm not good at those.
