It is a miracle!

I am sitting on the front porch working, watching Nadia wash the car. It is amazing: the car is getting DIRTIER by the minute. At this rate, I will be able to plant tomatoes on my hood!

ETA: The rag she is using was once white. It is now Pompeii ash gray, tending toward carbon black. Never has a car been washed, I tell you, with such enthusiasm. On the internet radio, klezmer plays. I know that's not the reason the music was made, but it PERFECT for watching a 7 year old wash the car.

(Joh...

Friday Morning

The sun is up just high enough that it is reflecting off of my neighbor's upstairs window, through my porch windows, onto the computer screen.  I woke early: Tim and I have tons to get accomplished today, and the girls, although they don't know this yet, will be cleaning their rooms. There's a lot of writing on the agenda; one phone conference, and then, glorious weekend.

It promises to be another horrific day on the news front. I started reading the papers this morning, and then a headline (C...

Wednesday Morning, Vaguely

We've been to the doctor, so Harmony's eyes can be photographed, and to the Farmer's Market, where we got some fruit, and now we're home again.  I have to pop out for a bit momentarily, to go to the post office and get cat food and gasoline for the car, and then it will be time to work in earnest.

Errands eat so much time, especially when you live far away from everything.

Harmony has just brought in a giant (dead) grasshopper from outside.  Nadia is not impressed; she squeaks like a monkey ...

Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine!

The green bean situation is, as of this moment, unresolved. Yet to the blog I come anyway. In ten minutes, I can write a lot of words -- but how many beans will get picked in the same interval?  Not so many. I'll have to devote a good chunk of time later; to the broccoli also, and the zucchini.  The tomatoes are taking their sweet time, but that's okay.  That's very okay.

The morning dew is still clinging to the asparagus, turning all of the feathery fronds silvery grey. Ice is coming soon; I ...

Monday Morning

Just a quick note to say I have to be a productive worker bee and won't be blogging much this week: between the garden (AARGH! Green Beans!) and the to-do list (AARGH! Not Green Beans!) and back to school (AARGH! I'd rather have Green Beans!) there is just no time.  Please don't break the entire internet while I'm taking care of the Green Bean Situation.

Lessons Only Your Children Can Teach You

Freshly microwaved hairbrush smells like uncannily like hot rubberized skunk.

Tuesday Morning

Listen to Kenneth Cole on MSNBC; I marvel that Anne Rice did not create this man out of whole cloth. He is very Lestat-esque.

In that time and in that place, all were listened to. Artists kept council with kings. Dreams and data were as one. That's how the people lost their way. And that's how they found it again.

Today will be fragmented: there are errands to run and places to go and things to edit and write and the garden - oh, the garden. Last night I did put the green beans up; it is much ...

Monday Morning

Already, it has been a good day. I've written two articles, done a set of Facebook ads, and edited a third article. If the rest of the day keeps up at this pace, I might be able to start the week tomorrow not completely behind!

It is to be hoped.

Today will be an exciting day at Chez CB. It is the annual pumping of the septic tank day; yesterday Tim and I went and got a new toilet and all the accoutrements - flanges and elbows and pipes and plumber's glue and more. Bathroom repairs ahoy!

Also o...

Saturday Morning

When the sun rose this morning, it pushed the clouds up in wide, pink bands. They bowed upward in the middle, as if the drive to rise, rise, rise was greater there. One doesn't usually think of clouds having momentum, but these ones clearly had some direction.

Tim's already off to the scrapyard. The children are asleep still; soon enough I will have to start the regular wake-up time routine so they can get acclimated to the schedule. It seems like it takes a week to ten days for them to get ...
