Look! It is Monday
I am enamored (a word I think should be spelled enamoured, but who, indeed, am I?) of the resurgence of lay a way. For those of us who live sans the formal banking system or credit, managing the purchases of large ticket items (or holiday gifts) can be difficult. Saving up in advance is great in theory, and sometimes even happens, but realistically layaway allows you to take advantage of sale prices and there's something about making the purchase and having scheduled payment plans that helps ...

Your affiliate element: Earth. I am so grounded you could plant potatoes behind my ears. I am not big on change. I don't like to move fast. I am in love with the land, and the land is in love with me. It is for the ground, for the grass, for the dirt beneath my toes that I will forsake the city and never think twice. I love the ground, I love how it changes under our feet, minute to minute, day to day, season to season. I love what can happen, with seed and care and good horse poop. It...

Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine
"You shouldn't be bitter, darling. It gives you lines around your mouth."
Today I think it will be a good day to focus on the style of things rather than the substance. This is, perhaps, the natural consequence of reading Pat Conroy. I spent last night reading Beach Music, and ladies and gentlemen, We are Not Amused with The Text. It's not that Conroy is a bad writer; far be it from me to fault anyone from florid descriptions and wandering asides. It is, instead, that the US/Viet Nam War i...

Completely Separate From The Previous Discussion
I have just realized I can use the entire side of the garage for a cut and dry flower bed. Now I know what I'll be doing come springtime! Strawflowers ahoy!

Wednesday Morning
It's been a very productive morning: I got to write a Pundit Piece, and between you and me, I love to write Pundit Pieces. They make me happy.
I had the most extraordinary dream last night, and it got me out of bed in a great mood. It was a strange extraordinary dream. The sky was vivid blue and shining; I was walking on a dirt rut road that was golden sand smooth; on either side the grass was growing, unmowed and exuberantly green.
Cresting a hill, I saw first a wagon, being pulled, per...

Mississippi Personhood Amendment

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.
Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize ...

Write About: A symbol that has deep spiritual significance for you.
Hair covering, whether it's kerchief, snood, veil. It's weird to talk about this in the context of paganism, because this is something I've learned almost exclusively from women who are Observant Orthodox Jews and Very Conservative Christians. But for me, there is something powerful and deeply affecting about covering your hair specifically for worship. (And when one is contemplating Hestia, one is generally doing a lot of s...

Tuesday Morning Quarterbacking
I bet that Jay Cutler is one sore puppy this morning. I think he got hit on every single play of the game last night. Hell, the poor guy tried to get some Gatorade and was taken back twenty yards by an overzealous mascot. Ok, maybe it wasn't that bad, but it was close. In between that and the let's see how many penalties we can possible incur in a single game thing it was painful to watch.
Not so painful that I didn't watch it, mind you.
It is Tuesday, a bright blue day where the trees have ...

It's one of those lovely work nights; there will be football accompaniment, thankfully. And there will be what my friend described as a Witchy-Meme to keep us company. It's supposed to go thirty days, and likely as not, I'll blow that right to hell, but hey, in for an inch, in for a mile.

Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine, Rise and Shine
And here we go. In our family, we've decided that the best way to celebrate Columbus Day is to commemorate things we didn't actually do ourselves. I'm personally torn between taking credit for fixing our economic disaster or creating world peace...
