A Post To Say

Computer problems abound and I've no connectivity at home. I need to make the most of every minute I've got of wi-fi while I'm out for work, so blogging will be scarce until then. Love to all y'all - I'll be back when the tech gods are smiling on me.

Saturday Makes Everything Better

Either that, or the fact that Surprise Puking Kid Festival seems to have calmed down tremendously. Eight hours of sleep, not necessarily in a row, but still there, have helped me too: this morning sitting down and getting four things off the to-do list in a fraction of the time it would have taken yesterday when thinking itself was laborious is a sign that today is going to be good and productive.

Today will be house wrangling most of the day, and then in the evening, finishing up acceptances ...

On saying what you mean

Dodge, according to my ad-bedazzled LJ, is never neutral. Which is going to suck if ever you get one and need to push it. Neutrality has its advantages, it's true.

The sky is promising rain in one direction, blue skies in another. It's cold, which is natural for Adirondack springs, and wet. It's an intermittent sort of day; one moment I'm tethered to the larger world, another, I'm not.

Parenting continues to be both difficult and frustrating, unlike marriage, which continues to be both frust...

Counting Our Blessings

You know how there are those people who always tell you to count your blessings? No matter what the situation may be, there's some silver lining, and we must be grateful for it? Even if the silver lining is, in fact, made of tin foil, and not even good tin foil at that, but some left over that had been covering a lasagna in the fridge - well, that can still be useful, can't it, and for that we must rejoice? How blessed we are, to be given all of these sow's ears to spin into silk gowns. As a ...

Notes To Self

Never say - to anyone -
"I don't know how you do it."
Chances are they don't either
And being reminded of this
Annoys them greatly.

With this in mind
Especially
Do not say this to yourself
For then you will be both
Annoyed
And existentially confused
Because
Six impossible things before breakfast
Isn't really that impressive
Given last week's calender

Do not forget
Self
That any system that is wholly dependent upon the goodwill of one person
To function optimally
Is inherently flawed.
As such
You are not required...

Confirmation Bias

The easiest thing to find evidence for is that thing in which you want to believe. Not that you always find what you're looking for, mind you, but it is perilously simple to convince ourselves that what we've found was what we were looking for all along. If its appearance was somewhat other than we expected, well, stories change with time and not one of us is right all of the time. Whether we admit that or not is another story.

When I was young, perhaps ten or twelve - this was before my Fath...

Wednesday Morning

It snowed again last night, just enough to cover the ground. Today is a trip to town in the morning to get seeds and some garden-starting stuff; after that, it's catch up, catch up, catch up. I'll tell you what, in between the girls being sick and me being in abject denial about my own health here, it's been a long couple of days. Couple of weeks. Seasonal transitions are tough for our family: if we're going to get sick, that's when it will happen.

I guess LJ is having issues; rumored to be...

It Has Been A Monday

The property taxes are paid, the van's been registered, and I have been puked upon by my small child. Sometimes there is nothing you can do when your child is sick save let them sleep it off and keep them hydrated and let them know you're watching over them; it is harder work than this description might lead you to believe. Today she went to school: it was Twin Day and she and her best friend wore matching dresses. Maybe tomorrow the second grade entire will have matching gastro-intestinal d...

Friday Morning

And the morning is better. Boy, life is a roller coaster sometimes. Some people like roller coasters; me, I could go for a nice calm merry-go-round ride for a while :-) It helps that the 'massive' snowstorm rumored to be headed our way seems to have shifted east and northward; Maine is going to get hammered. Us, not so much.

It's April Fool's Day, and Nadia has decided the changing path of the storm was just all part of an elaborate April Fool's Prank by the weather forecasters. Which is no...

Thursday Morning

Today in Good Decisions, I did not answer the phone when my Mother in Law called. The last time I talked to her, she told me to leave Tim and move to Maryland with the girls; the time before that she told me my life would be better if I cut off all contact with my Mother. I'm not related to too many people and given recent events, if her advice was to leave the children on the side of the road and carry on with my own journey toward happiness and fulfillment, I might just do it. The key to...
