"She's a remarkable performer, with a terrific ear for detail and a gift for masking melancholy observations with hooks that stick." - NPR Listen: "No Senstive Man" via Spin or SoundCloudListen" "Last War" at NPRWatch: "Last War" video at Noisey Haley Bonar is set to release her fifth full length record, Last War, on May 20th via Graveface. Last week, Spin premiered "No Sensitive Man" from Last War and Haley stopped The Current in Minneapolis to chat about her forthcoming album, recording at Dave Grohl's studio and her experience working with Graveface. You can listen to the full interview here. Additionally, NPR is featuring "Last War" in their SXSW preview The Austin 100 - a playlist celebrating 100 artists to discover at SXSW 2014. You can listen to the the feature here. Haley Bonar also released an album trailer for Last War which is available to post and share via YouTube.
On Last War, Bonar takes a darker sonic direction on the forthcoming album which envelopes her omnipotent songwriting in lush, brooding soundscapes that feature hard driving rhythm sections, soaring synths and snarling guitars. The record was recorded at Devils Workshop, April Base and 606 (Dave Grohl's personal studio in LA) The cherry on top: special guest Justin Vernon (Bon Iver, Volcano Choir) appears on two tracks adding his ethereal vocal harmonies to "From A Cage" and "Eat for Free".
Haley Bonar was discovered during an open mic event by one of her musical heroes, Alan Sparhawk of Low. The next day she quit school, crammed her Honda Civic full of gear with her drummer, and was opening for Low across the country she had barely seen. Haley was twenty years old. Since then, she has released four full length albums, several EPs, started a punk/new-wave side project ( Gramma's Boyfriend ), had songs tapped for major motion pictures and has had the pleasure to tour from coast-to-coast playing some of the most amazing venues with some of the most talented artists in the world.

No showcase can boast such an eclectic group of artists, for each band is singular in their approach and belong to a genre unto themselves. Oscillate to the dark-folk drone of Cross Record, trip balls to the psyched out grooves of Cloud Becomes Your Hand and NYMPH, get a pit started during the chaotic early grunge of Slothrust and shake your friggin ass to the saxophone pop of DVA. We’ve got it all and we’ll be partying indoors and on our backyard deck. Check out BDB and NSPY bands speak about their SXSW dreams in the showcase trailer below:

London’s Woman's Hour have been making waves on both sides of the Atlantic with a stream of transfixing singles championed for their bold minimalist sensibility and instantly memorable melodies. Audiences in the US will get their first chance to see them and hear songs from their forthcoming debut album, due out this year on Secretly Canadian, at this year’s SXSW Festival and shows in New York and Los Angeles, complete dates below.
Woman’s Hour just released a beautiful new video directed by internationally renowned visual artists Adam Brookmberg and Oliver Chanarin for their new single 'Her Ghost'. Watch and embed the video here.
The new video - a further collaboration between Woman's Hour and Broomberg and Chanarin following their work together on the band's 'To The End' and 'Darkest Place' videos - finds front-woman Fiona Burgess' lyrics reinterpreted through sign language, offering a striking new vision of universality in the song's insatiable and heart-wrenching melodies.
"After seeing two young people signing to each other in the street, I became interested in how deaf people communicate, particularly how they engage with music," says Fiona. "Vilma, the deaf actor in our video, signs the song as a personal response to the lyrics, rather than a literal word-for-word translation. The process has enabled us to celebrate this form of engagement with music; language as a form of dance."
'Her Ghost' is available digitally now on Secretly Canadian.
More on Woman's Hour's 'Her Ghost'
'Her Ghost' is Woman's Hour's first release with their new label following a year which saw them become the 6th most blogged band of the year (Hype Machine) and receive praise from the likes of Pitchfork, The Fader and Stereogum.
Placing the heart-wrenching vocals of Fiona Burgess against an intricate backdrop of expertly-crafted electronic textures, the new song finds its power through restraint with the band’s attention to the smallest of details reflected in the richness of the end result. At once achingly subtle and breathtakingly powerful in its melodic display, “Her Ghost” is testament to a band fully in command of their unique identity and sound.
Woman's Hour are Fiona Burgess, William Burgess, Josh Hunnisett and Nicolas Graves.

Brody Dalle Video - Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy

Fans can click here to download the track on iTunes and here to watch the video.
Brody Dalle spent a year writing, playing, recording and co-producing her first solo album,Diploid Love, a riotous blast of punk rock with a pop sheen that storms through ideas about the modern age, triumphing against the odds and even spirituality. She co-produced everything with Alain Johannes (Arctic Monkeys, Them Crooked Vultures, Mark Lanegan) at his 11AD studio, and at her and husband Josh Homme's studio Pink Duck, both in California. "I've always had a hand in crafting how it's going to sound and hearing it and trying to make that happen. But it's the first time I've put my name on something for production", she says of the release. Amazingly, she wrote all the songs and played over most of the instruments you can hear on the album, save for a few special guests.
Brody has had a long, wild career in music. "It's the only job I've ever had and I love it." In her native Australia, her first band, Sourpuss, got her signed at 15; she later moved to LA and formed The Distillers, becoming pack leader of a band of hardcore reprobates, and spending her 20s touring the world. After that, she released a killer album rife with hooks under Spinnerette and now she returns in fighting form under her own name with her own solo project.
