THE FAINT Announce New Album DOOM ABUSE Out April 8
THE FAINT Announce New Album DOOM ABUSE Out April 8 On SQE Music"Help In The Head" Streaming at NPR, Video Available At PitchforkSpring Tour Dates Announced
Listen: "Help in The Head" via NPR or SoundCloud Watch: "Help In The Head" video via Pitchfork or YouTube
THE FAINT will return this spring with their sixth album, DOOM ABUSE out April 8 via SQE Music. NPR premiered the album's lead track "Help In The Head" on today's All Songs Considered Show and Pitchfork premiered the video for the track, which was directed by Tim Nackashi. DOOM ABUSE is available for pre-order now on iTunes. Fans that pre-order the album through iTunes will receive a downloadable track every week leading up to the album's release. A download of "Help In The Head" is available now with all iTunes pre-orders. THE FAINT will be embarking on a national tour in the late spring. All shows are listed below. To understand DOOM ABUSE and its raw, visceral aesthetic you have to understand its birth story. You have to understand that after touring for a year on their 2008 self-released album Fasciinatiion, an album that took several years to write and produce, THE FAINT ceased to exist. The musicians were burned out, uninspired and could no longer find the most important element of any musical creation: fun. They went their separate ways, pursued other sorts of music in other projects, sometimes together and sometimes separately, and learned new ways of channeling sound. They remembered what drove their songwriting in the first place. Then, in the spring of 2013, THE FAINT existed again. Anxious to make new music the band recorded a 4-song white label 12" they referred to as "Preversions." That music, primal and punk rock in its approach became the unplanned blueprint for DOOM ABUSE.
The band booked time with longtime collaborator Mike Mogis to mix the album before even really having songs written. There was no specific concept, just a sense of wanting to capture moments of real passion and invigorated glee. Whatever came out while writing in the band's Omaha studio and rehearsal space would become their next album. Since much of Fasciinatiion was made sitting behind computers, the musicians wanted to embrace a live sensibility and collective rawness. A lot of the record was created live in the room, with first takes and first ideas taking precedent.
The entire album took only about three months to create. It reflects specific experiences from a specific time and sounds unlike anything else. And in its final iteration, you can see the patterns inDOOME ABUSE's songs. The ideas and themes become clear. For Todd Fink, many of the album's lyrics were created automatically in a stream of consciousness. In the moment he didn't know that he was centered on certain lyrical obsessions, mostly connected to the human brain and its functions.
The music, too, connects. From boisterous, static-laced opener "Help In The Head" to propulsive aggressor "Evil Voices" to ambient and layered closer "Damage Control," the album explores different variations of THE FAINT as a live rock band. Their history as an innovative dance act lingers, years of obsession with crafting a new style for the dance floor seeping into each song, but here and now, the band wanted to make songs that capture the sheer power and collaborative nature of their onstage performances. The songs differ and balance each other out but all share the same space and overarching tone, another pattern seen after the fact.
The birth of DOOM ABUSE in many ways, is in parallel with a rebirth of the band itself. THE FAINT, started in Omaha in the mid-'90s, have always created against the grain, disinterested in making anything except what their own inspiration drives them to make. Each album since their 1998 debut Media has shifted and evolved that desire. Some albums, like 1999's Blank-Wave Arcade, came from urgent, short recording processes while others, like 2004's Wet From Birth, were more carefully constructed. The musicians themselves are the constant, together embracing a style that is truly unlike every other band out there. While DOOM ABUSE harkens back to Blank-Wave Arcade's immediacy in some ways, it opens a new door. Inside is exactly where THE FAINT want to be now.

Glass Animals share new video
GLASS ANIMALS SHARE "GOOEY" VIDEO VIA THE QUIETUS
GOOEY EP OUT APRIL 8 ON HARVEST RECORDS WATCH: "Gooey" https://www.vevo.com/watch/glass-animals/gooey/GBUV71400214
Fresh from their recent European support dates with St. Vincent, Oxfordshire quartet Glass Animals have unveiled the video for their new single "Gooey". The video was shot by Australian director-duo The Apiary (Lily Coates & Gavin Youngs).
Glass Animals' frontman Dave Bayley said of the video: "We wanted something that ran well alongside the threads of youth, naivety and the sort of playfulness in the lyrics. The Apiary's films already had those elements, so we asked them to interpret 'Gooey' as a film. This is the result." As one of the first signings to Paul Epworth's Wolf Tone label in the UK, Glass Animals have polished their pulsing indie electronica-by-way-of-RnB under the production of the band's vocalist and writer Dave Bayley, and Epworth's guiding hand.
Having left the confines of their creative hub in the woodlands of Oxfordshire (referred to as The Shed), the band took up residence at Epworth's London studio in the Autumn of 2013. It's a move that has instantly developed their sound, merging their love of analogue with digital, and transforming their psych-fuzz into something a whole lot wilder.
Armed with a full LP to come later in the year, and a seriously impressive live set-up, Glass Animals are primed for a very exciting twelve months and beyond. The Gooey EP will be released digitally April 8th on Harvest Records.
Glass Animals are: Dave Bayley, Drew MacFarlane, Edmund Irwin-Singer, Joe Seaward.

Gardens & Villa Release New Video for "Colony Glen"

Produced by Tim Goldsworthy (Cut Copy, DFA Records, LCD Soundsystem), Dunes has received praise from Pitchfork, Hype Machine and Stereogum for a sound that SPIN calls, "smoother than ever, their avant-pop synthesizers matched by snappy post-punk drums and a melody sung by a twisting flute hook."
Gardens & Villa are currently on a US tour and will support Broken Bells next month along a string of European dates. A full list of tour dates is below. Biography / Over the past three years, the Santa Barbarian comrades that make up Gardens & Villa – Chris Lynch, Adam Rasmussen, Levi Hayden, Shane McKillop, and Dusty Ineman – went from playing local bills to being veterans of the road. After releasing their self-titled debut on Secretly Canadian in 2011, they pushed their van's odometer into the six-digit range, zigzagging North America and Europe with over 350 shows in just 2 years. Gardens & Villa emerged a wiser, crystallized version of themselves.
Those experiences planted the seeds for the band's new batch of cohesive, personal, and beautifully layered pop songs -- homegrown in the confines of the band's beachside practice space. When it came time to record, they searched out acclaimed producer Tim Goldsworthy (Cut Copy, DFA Records, LCD Soundsystem, Hercules & Love Affair) and these five surf-town natives found themselves traveling to the unlikely locale of Benton Harbor, MI (pop. 10,040) in January. There they landed at the Key Club, located deep in the recesses of a converted locksmith's building where they would record what would become their second full-length, Dunes.
Gardens & Villa burrowed into the Key Club's retro-themed studio and living space, only leaving the facility five times over the next month. The disconnect between Santa Barbara's familiar sunny beaches and Michigan's snow-covered lakeshore led to the group's creative unraveling in the studio. The band lost track of the hours, days, and weeks as blinking analog machines captured the intense journey. In the process, Dunes was poured through Sly Stone's original custom-built Flickinger recording console.
With just a week left before deadline, Gardens & Villa sought a brief refuge from the studio where their progress had stalled. They went on a trip, traversing winding roads past frozen tundra and barren trees and into the wilderness of the nearby state park's tall dunes. The group climbed to the top and collapsed into a combination of sand and snow. Simultaneously reminded of home as well as their distance from it, their jaws dropped as they turned to see Lake Michigan's majestic and surreal expanse stretching toward the horizon.
Supported by Goldsworthy's guidance, the band went back to the studio and ultimately emerged with a record beaming with dystopian energy, subconscious lyrics, and uncompromising sincerity. Lynch has seamlessly integrated his bansuri flutes and Rasmussen has fleshed out his looming synths alongside shades of '80s cult films soundscapes that lurk just underneath the songs in an unnoticeable-yet-omnipresent fashion. Like the awe-inspiring clarity of sitting atop Michigan's dunes, the band's forthcoming record shares a clear and evocative vision of where Gardens & Villa's members have traveled, what they've learned, and what lies ahead.Upcoming Tour Dates02.26.14 - Il Motore - Montreal, QC

Brooklyn's Vensaire to release conceptual debut full-length
Brooklyn folk-pop quintet Vensaire to release
conceptual debut full-length April 15
Perdix is an adventure taking place across four continents, inspired by Homer's Odyssey

Vensaire is the band for a world where bands don't matter. In a culture lived on the internet and spoken in tongues of allusion and reference, the idea that a "band" in any traditional sense could be important is frightfully outdated. But this is the very void Vensaire was conceived in. Their music, a mystical concoction that spills over you in a wave of joy and longing, not only makes you dance, but ushers you along the path of reflection and growth. In this vein, Vensaire is the synthesis of five unique and disparate personalities three years in the making. Their debut will finally see the light of day with the concept album Perdix: a sweeping story of discovery and adventure based on Homer's Odyssey that crosses four continents before penetrating to the very heart of creation itself.

Click here to watch the video for first single "See I'm You" via Noisey
Perdix was recorded under the guidance of Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, Prince Rama) and in some ways calls to mind the producer's discography. Vensaire aptly employs samples and electronic drums to augment the vocal and instrumental melodies at the heart of each song. What sets the band apart, however, is the complexity and variety of it's compositions. "See I'm You" builds from the reversed sample of a friend's voice into an anthemic pop gem. "Porteño" rides the exuberance of Spanish-style guitars and "Song 6" revels in gorgeous Asian-inspiried strings. "Rose Cottage" is perhaps the most indicative of what Vensaire is capable of: a three-movement creation that rises above the simple looping structure of most sample-based songs, slowing to a delicate acoustic middle section before climaxing in resounding group vocals. Perdix ends as it began, allowing the record to be looped ad infinitum- yet another example of Vensaire's clarity of vision and execution.

Listen and Share "There Was a Light" here.
Los Angeles based Tashaki Miyaki was born out of a late night jam between Lucy and Rocky in early 2011. Shortly after they started making recordings as a duo with friend and producer/engineer Joel Jerome (Dios, Babies on Acid). After posting a couple songs on bandcamp there was sudden response from bloggers and business types alike, including being flown to London to play a private event for Converse at the legendary 100 Club. Realizing they needed to fill out their live sound, they asked friend and bassist Dora Hiller to join. Since then they have recorded a self titled EP, a single (Best Friend, Luvluvluv Records), a 7" of Everly Brothers Covers (Rough Trade's For Us Records), a tape of all their early recordings on Burger Records, as well as toured North America and the UK. They are currently in the midst of recording their debut full length.

Brian Eno Announces New Album With Karl Hyde 'Someday World'

NEW ALBUM SOMEDAY WORLD
RELEASED MAY 6th ON WARP RECORDS

Brian Eno and Karl Hyde come together with a new album to be released this May on Warp Records. Someday World comprises nine songs, composed and sung by Eno & Hyde together with a highly distinguished cast of supporting musicians, including Tessa Angus, Nell Catchpole, Marianna Champion, Will Champion, Kasia Daszykowska, Don E., Darla Eno, Georgia Gibson, Andy Mackay, John Reynolds and Chris Vatalaro.
The release was produced by Brian Eno with 22 year old Fred Gibson, continuing an ongoing collaboration between Karl and Brian which sees the two together on a complete album for the first time.
“A lot of the nicer cities I know are cities built on hills, and the cities are beautiful because the buildings have a challenge to adapt to. They have to mould themselves around the geology that they've formed upon. And that always makes for very interesting buildings, because they can't just be blocks, they have to somehow morph around the environment. A lot of the constructions on the album were deliberately irregular and awkward.
I had a big collection of 'beginnings' sitting around waiting for something to galvanise them into life, to make them more than just 'experiments'. That something turned out to be Karl Hyde.”
- Brian Eno
“It's a bit like being nine years old again. You have no idea what you've just been given, the record button has been pressed and you're on. And then these unlikely patterns start to happen. The biggest surprise was discovering we both had a love of Afrobeat, Cyclical music based in live playing. When Brian played me these early tracks it was, 'Oh my god, this is home! Can I borrow a guitar?”
- Karl Hyde
Someday World is released on Special Edition 2CD (with four bonus songs), CD, Double Gatefold LP and Digital formats. Subscribe at www.enohyde.com for more information and for first news of new music.
