Holograms Release Video for "Lay Us Down"

Holograms Release Video for "Lay Us Down"
Sophomore LP Forever Out Now
Last year Swedish foursome Holograms released their sophomore album  Forever,  and toured extensively across Europe and North America. Following the end of the last string of dates the band called upon director Mattias Johansson to create the "brutally beautiful" [SPIN] video for their track "Lay Us Down", which features live footage shot in their hometown of Stockholm. Spanning just over seven minutes, the video bookends grim imagery of everyday life with eerie, gothic chants and apocalyptic clips, evoking a captivating sense of unease and mysterious intrigue. The world of Holograms is austere, yet equally comforting.
Watch the video for "Lay Us Down"
Check out videos for "Luminous" and "Meditations" as well.  "[they] transform their pitch-black palate of sounds into something remarkably bright."
Pitchfork
"invigorating and slightly dangerous at the same time"
eMusic

"provides depth and texture that were previously absent, while retaining that greyed-out angst that made their first album so thrilling"
NME
"Forever fills in some of the craters Holograms debuted with, sculpting their synth-augmented post-punk into a robust, streamlined whole."
Consequence of Sound

"Not so much a grower as a slow-burning future classic, Forever points to even more exciting things from Holograms as they continue to challenge themselves and expand their vision."
AllMusic

Forever Tracklisting

1. A Sacred State
2. Flesh & Bone
3. Meditations
4. Ättestupa
5. Luminous
6. Rush
7. Wolves
8. Laughter Breaks The Silence
9. A Blaze On The Hillside
10. Lay Us Down

Buy Forever  Here A year plus on after the release of their debut LP, Sweden’s Holograms have returned with their second full length,  Forever . After a year and a half of touring, losing their jobs, parts of their sanity and returning home only with the hope that their hard work will eventually pay off, they embarked on a new record drawing from the experiences that had simultaneously excited and exhausted the members.

Frontman Andreas Lagerström (vocals/bass) and Anton Strandberg (drums) still live in working class Farsta, 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of urbane and metropolitan Stockholm while the brothers’ Spetze (Anton: vocals/guitar, Filip: synth) still live at home. This isolation and boredom after their first international tours led the group to further mature and grow their sound into a record far more cohesive and “big-sounding” than their debut. The band aimed to capture the feeling of music being played in a church or temple, “like a mass…procession, or eulogy” as clearly demonstrated on closing track “Lay Us Down.” Though matured and experienced, the band’s youthful energy and DIY/Punk upbringing is still upfront and in full effect with the caustic “A Sacred State,” the melodic attack of “Rush,” or the unbridled mass-of-energy-cut-loose of “A Blaze on the Hillside.” Clearly, Holograms show no signs of slowing down the excitement and aggression of their original sound, something to delight their growing audience in this current world of arrogant sonic about-faces on sophomore albums.

Forever is more than the next set of songs from Holograms. It’s a fully realized album that fans will relish for years to come. Songwriting and anthemic choruses as classic as the William Bouguereau painting they chose as the basis of their cover, though presented in a new and exciting way. A way perhaps best described with Holograms’ own words for the essence of their music “...energy, honesty, heart and spirit.”

Melanie De Biasio Announces New Album 'No Deal'

MELANIE DE BIASIO NO DEAL THE ALBUM RELEASED APRIL 28TH ON PLAY IT AGAIN SAMWatch ‘The Flow’ video hereLIVE: TUESDAY MARCH 11TH @ THE SCALA (SUPPORTING NICK MULVEY) No Deal  is the new album from Melanie de Biasio, released April 28th on Play It Again Sam. Album of the week recently on Gilles Peterson’s influential BBC 6 Music show, No Deal has already achieved Gold status in her native Belgium, and is fast approaching Silver in France. Originally from Charleroi and currently based in Brussels, De Biasio is a classically trained flautist and the former singer in a jazz trio, though hers is not the jazz of hotel lobbies and lounge bars. De Biasio’s semi-improvised, avant-garde, minimalist approach to the genre will reward any music-lover willing to take the time to immerse themselves in No Deal. The album should appeal to fans of late-period Talk Talk, who’s Mark Hollis is a huge figure for De Biasio. She also cites Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd as formative influences, plus Nina Simone and Abbey Lincoln, two icons of the civic rights fight and spokeswomen of an aggressive jazz stripped of any affectation. No Deal comes in at 33 and a third minutes and contains just seven songs, through which De Biasio’s voice drifts gracefully, at times disappearing altogether.  With Pascal Paulus on boisterous keyboards, Pascal Mohy on classical piano, and Dre Pallemaerts on drums, De Biasio has streamlined everything to give more space to her extraordinary vocals. She has been called the Belgian Billie Holiday, and there is something delicately haunting about her voice, something in her delivery which compels you to listen. There is a natural flow to the album, from the intimate beginnings of I Feel You to the farewell note ofWith All My Love. The final song intimates the reconciliatory, redemptive powers of song, the calm after the storm, yet bristling with emotion, a ‘frisson‘, as they say in French.  Veteran American jazz DJ Dave Wade nicely described Melanie’s lyrics as delphic and direct. Even when her voice disappears into the shadows and mesmeric piano and percussion guide us through to the end, we keep on listening so very closely. Rarely has a record unfurled as many dark beauties and hidden luminescence, speaking a thousand musical languages while remaining completely accessible, being attractive and disconcerting at the same time.Melanie will support Nick Mulvey at The Scala on Tuesday 11th March. Look out for news of more UK dates soon. www.melaniedibiasio.com www.playitagainsam.net

Night Drive Premieres Surreal Video "After Dark"

Night Drive Premieres New Video for “After Dark”, From Position I EP, on PureVolume

 Playing Five Shows @ SXSW

“Rides a nu-wave of fast-tempoed, synth-based electronic sounds driven by rich guitar melodies and arresting vocal hooks.” – Details

”Austin-based duo reach back to 2000s LES-wave, and a little further, for the mix of disco, post-punk, and electro that drives ‘Position I.’” – Bullett

(Click on image to watch and share video!)

Night Drive is not a band. It's a mission. Two secret agents, Rodney Connell and Brandon Duhon, sent to recalibrate the future of electro-pop.

Night Drive is kind of music you might hear on a car stereo if Giorgio Moroder and Ray Bradbury were driving late at night through a buzzing metropolis. Inspired by dark wave and synthpop alike, and drawing influences from artists such as Brian EnoThe KnifeThe DrumsNew Order and LCD Soundsystem, the driving beat and dancing synths of Position I makes you want to jet off to some great nightclub in the sky.

Rodney and Brandon began writing together after the tragic death of a young woman they both were dating, unknowingly at the same time. This collaboration left them with the collection of songs from which Night Drive was born.

The duo paired up with Lobo Sucio Creative for “After Dark,” directed Javier Antonio Avellan. “This is our third video with Night Drive,” notes Avellan. “We have explored the realms of experimental and abstract filmmaking in our previous collaborations, so with this video we decided to delve into a fictional world to tell the story of a young girl on a late night adventure." Check out their previous videos, here and here.

DAN SARTAIN TOURING, PLAYING SELECT SHOWS

DAN SARTAINNew Album: DUDESBLOODOut April 29th Through One Little Indian
Live Shows in March/April with Rocket From the CryptMore To Be Announced
Dan Sartain follows 2012’s Ramones-suffused ‘Too Tough to Live’ with an altogether-more-eclectic proposition in the shape of DUDESBLOOD, released April 29th through One Little Indian. Across its 10 songs, Dan careers between the paranormal John Ford country and western of ‘Marfa Lights’, to UK anarcho-punk,;‘Smash The Tesco’, as well as a truly inspired take on The Knife’s ‘Pass This On’, which also happens to be the album’s lead single on April 22nd. ‘You Don’t Know Anything At All’ and ‘You Gotta Get Mad To Get Things Done’ are classic Dan maxims, offering up two sides of the same coin - sentiments softened in the later song by  Misty Miller ’s backing vocals. Elsewhere lurk the sordid reflections of the ‘HPV Cowboy’, before Dan reprises his country trails croon for‘Rawhide Moon’and the album’s improbable conclusion, ‘Moonlight Swim’ (originally covered by Anthony 'Norman Bates' Perkins). DUDESBLOOD also features drums and marimba tracks by the venerable  DJ Don Bonebrake , best known as the original member and drummer for punk rock band X, of which he is still an active member. Dan’s affinity for X,The Knitters and The Flesh Eaters prompted him to reach out to DJ and the result is a sweet, shimmery layer not usually found on the more aggressively paranoid songs sometimes to be found in Sartain’s catalogue.
Dan will open for Rocket From The Crypt in March/April, before heading out on his own. Details forthcoming.
