True Detective theme song by The Handsome Family
“ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY” PREMIERES THE HANDSOME FAMILY’S LYRIC VIDEO FOR “FAR FROM ANY ROAD”
TRACK CHOSEN AS MAIN TITLE THEME FOR HIT HBO SHOW
“TRUE DETECTIVE”
CURRENTLY ONE OF THE TOP 10 MOST VIRAL SONGS ON SPOTIFY
“Entertainment Weekly” has premiered the lyric video for The Handsome Family’s “Far From Any Road.” Of the song, Rennie says “How strange to have an almost forgotten song from years ago resurrected and so showered with love! People keep asking us how we managed to write such a perfect song to open True Detective. They compliment us on all the various connections to the storyline we’ve managed to include and how perfectly our song emotionally sets the pace for each episode. They think I’m lying when I say that the song was written long before the TV show was a spark of an idea. Maybe time really is a flat circle. Maybe you do need to see a lot of darkness before you can see a little light. We’ve spent 20 years as a band of outsiders searching for ears that could hear us. At last I think we’ve found our Carcosa—that glorious kingdom built with the bricks of our deepest dreams.” You can watch the video HERE. “Far From Any Road” is the main title theme song for HBO’s new hit show “True Detective.” Chosen for the show by acclaimed artist/music supervisor T Bone Burnett, the track is currently one of the Top 10 Most Viral Songs on Spotify in both the U.S. and the U.K. The song is available now at http://bit.ly/1fvm5Q2 The track is from the group’s 2003 release, Singing Bones, and according to Rennie, is “about tricks and death and something sinister, and I think they [both the song and the show] live in the same emotional landscape but exist in different physical landscapes.” “The Handsome Family…has been releasing deeply haunting albums since 1995,” says The Washington Post. “They’ve built up a solid career over time, blending murder ballads with hidden histories.” Brett and Rennie Sparks have been collaborating musically for over 20 years. With lyrics by Rennie and music by Brett, The Handsome Family infuse their singular art with everything from punk rock to folk, and have garnered extensive critical acclaim over the years. “The songs are an effortless blend of vintage country and pre-rock ’n’ roll pop,” declared SPIN, “but New Mexico’s Handsome Family are no cutesy nostalgia act.” Mojo named their 1998 album Through the Trees one of the “ten essential Americana records of all time,” and Uncut called In the Air “one of the most important records of the 21st century.” The Handsome Family’s songs have been covered by many notable artists including Jeff Tweedy, Andrew Bird, and Kelly Hogan. Originally from Chicago, The Handsome Family now record all their songs in a converted garage studio at the back of their Albuquerque home.

Structured as a music experience inside an island vacation, with a very limited amount of tickets available, no clashing performances, and a schedule that allows for activities such as boating, winery visits, and mornings spent on the beach, as well as a diverse and genre-pushing roster of performances, FOR is an unforgettable destination event not to be missed.

DESTINATION“It’s almost comically beautiful, with emerald water and ancient stone churches, houses with reddish pink rooftops and giant yachts docked everywhere. Who knew Croatia was so gorgeous?” – The Fader Hvar is an ancient Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, located off the Dalmatian Coast. The island is accessed via a short ferry or catamaran trip from the port town of Split. Hvar is well known for its spectacular beauty, glorious waters, yachting to the many surrounding islands, and incredibly fresh local cuisine.

Waved off by James Murphy at first light Sunday morning? Check. Yes, this is the festival where artists and attendees all commingle and together take to Pink Champagne in the wee hours to continue the party. This is where boat service and delicious fresh food is always available. Where you drink Prosecco on the rocks — literal ones — while kicking your feet in the surf. FOR Festival is not a music festival. It’s more like a resort.” – Societe Perrier “…a festival of music lovers for music lovers without any VIP areas or hierarchies.” – Festivalrykten Stay in touch.FACEBOOKTWITTERWEBSITEINSTAGRAM @FOR_festivalTag us #ForFestival and #For14

The Black Angels Reveal "Evil Things" Video
THE BLACK ANGELS REVEAL VIDEO FOR "EVIL THINGS"
PREMIERED VIA GUITAR WORLD
WATCH // EMBED THE "EVIL THINGS" VIDEO HERE
Blue Horizon is excited to reveal the video for the Black Angels' "Evil Things" from Indigo Meadow. The clip, which was premiered via Guitar World , takes dark, gritty scenes from a child's dreams -- many of which including an ominous black horse -- to create a fitting accompaniment to the sounds and themes of the droning, chugging track. "Evil Things," which was directed by Kevin Castanheira, is available for stream and embed HERE.
The band has been hard at work on new material and recently wrapped up a winter tour with the legendary Roky Erickson. In the near future, The Black Angels will be playing South By Southwest, Austin Psych Fest, Sasquatch Festival and Maverick Festival. Austin Psych Fest, curated by The Black Angels, is in its seventh year. From May 2 - 4, 2014, the lineup boasts The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, Loop, The Dandy Warhols, Panda Bear and many more. The full lineup and festival information can be found at www.austinpsychfest.com. Upon Indigo Meadow's release, iTunes selected the album as an Editors' Choice. The Associated Press said, "Imagine tossing bands from the pantheon of American psychedelia like The Electric Prunes, Count Five, 13th Floor Elevators and The Seeds into your blender, adding a splash of Sabbath and a dollop of early Soundgarden or Mudhoney, and you've got Austin's The Black Angels. On Indigo Meadow, these Texans keep this elixir swirling. Their fourth album is modern psychedelia, true to the earlier form, with all the weird, hypnotic, fuzzy guitar sounds and dirgelike keyboards, only really well produced." Relix hailed, "Hyperinventive when it counts, the Angels aren't just mimicking a late '60s garage sound - they're bending, stretching and molding it in their own image." Recently, the band appeared on PBS' renowned Austin City Limits, performing songs from Indigo Meadow. Additionally, the album was included on best of 2013 lists, such as Rough Trade and Waterloo Records.
The Black Angels' (Christian Bland - guitar, drone machine/organ; Alex Maas - vocals, bass, organ, drone machine; Stephanie Bailey - drums, percussion; Kyle Hunt - keyboards, percussion, bass, guitar; Jake Garcia - guitar, bass) most revelatory collection thus far, Indigo Meadow marks the Austin, Texas-based band's fourth full-length release, following 2010's acclaimed Phosphene Dream. Once again The Black Angels prove themselves the undisputed avatars of contemporary psychedelic rock, simultaneously exalting the genre's kaleidoscopic past as they thrust it ever further into the future.

FOR RECORD STORE DAY - APRIL 19th, 2014

New Album Mess Out March 25th
US Tour Dates Announced
Listen to The Black Bananas Remix “Mess On A Mission HERE
“ Mess…makes a man want to fall in love with this band all over again.…this is one glorious mess that Liars have gotten themselves into.” -Clash
"Great reminder of what Liars are capable of…tantalizing."-Pigeons and Planes
"Liars' untidy room remains a wonderful place to visit" -Q
LIARS (Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross) announce details of a unique, exclusive Record Store Day release. “Mess On A Mission” will be released on a limited edition vinylembedded with string.
Says Angus Andrew: "We talked about the idea for days but weren't at all sure it could physically be done. After all, pressing bits of colored string into the actual vinyl was nothing we'd ever heard of before. To us it seemed like such a unique and interesting way to extend the visual language of Mess right inside the music."
“Mess On A Mission”, described by GQ as a "…frantic synthstorm" and by SPIN as "Rave-Punk Ripper"comes backed with remixes from Black Bananas (Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux / RTX / Drag City) and Silent Servant (Sandwell District / Hospital Productions) plus an exclusive b-side, “Blah Vets”. This limited release will be available exclusively on Record Store Day - April 19th - and will follow the release of Liars' seventh studio album, Mess, out on March 25th, 2014 on CD, double vinyl, download.
Mess - the follow up to 2012's WIXIW - is an angry, ecstatic, primal burst of ritualistic electronics that sacrifices self-persecution for potent, purposeful abandon and sees Liars if maybe not quite at ease with the world, then at least staring it straight in the eye and showing their teeth.
There's a playfulness to Mess that travels through to the album artwork, masterminded by Julian Gross who explains: “I wanted to manipulate something in a live setting, so it was always changing and not just static. Then this undulating string started looking like this animal – it looked cool and pretty, but also looked a bit fucked up and vibrant. A lot of those things are very similar to what we were trying to do with this record." Go to http://www.liarsliarsliars.com/ to see more.
Live, Liars are unmissable. Known for their turbulent, intoxicating and inventive performances and the band recently announced a North American tour. With stops at Austin Psych Fest, New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge and Sasquatch Music Festival, the dates will be followed by UK / European shows, to be announced shortly.
In preparation for their upcoming album release on March 25th, 2014 Liars are excited to share a remix of “Mess On A Mission” by their friends Black Bananas, give it a listen HERE.

Pussy Riot part of #SolidarityWisconsin campaign
Pussy Riot members appear in new video to support Wisconsin protest singers

various hi-res images here
March 11, 2014 (New York) - Pussy Riot members Nadya Tolokonikova and Masha Alyokhina have made a surprise appearance in a new video by human rights group The Voice Project. The new video and campaign, #SolidarityWisconsin, launched Tuesday to petition Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen to drop the prosecution of the over 400 protest singers arrested in the Wisconsin state capitol last summer. The video features the Pussy Riot members, alongside protesters who had been arrested, the women expressing their solidarity with the Wisconsin protesters and encouraging them in their efforts to use music for social change.
Act now! HERE
#SolidarityWisconsin video HERE
The Wisconsin "Solidarity Sing Alongs" were born out of 2011 protests at the state capitol building in Madison where over 100,000 protesters descended on the state capitol building to protest Governor Scott Walker stripping collective bargaining rights from state employee unions. The daily sing alongs have been an ongoing continuation of those 2011 demonstrations. But following a crackdown on the protests last summer that saw over 400 singers arrested at the capitol building, the Solidarity Sing Alongs have become about more than unions and workers' rights, but a referendum on free speech and freedom of expression with defendants and cases taken up by the ACLU and other free speech organizations.
"We've been here every day at noon to sing for three years, we haven't missed a day and we're still going," said singer Brandon Barwick, who has 4 arrests and 34 citations as a result of singing at the capitol building. "We simply can't back down and we won't. The ability to speak out, to petition our government, it's too important, and not just to us here in Wisconsin."
"This is an issue that transcends politics, right and left, this is about standing up for freedom of expression, and that is a human right that also transcends borders," said Voice Project Executive Director Hunter Heaney on the participation of the Russian activists in the campaign video. "The stifling of dissent, freedom of expression and foundational human rights, democracy being under threat and creeping authoritarianism, these are not just problems to read about in far off places like Russia and Crimea." Heaney continued, "more and more we're seeing artists and activists who have had enough, and who are summoning the courage to stand up to the direction the world is taking under its current leadership, and as an organization we're working to defend, support and bring together those voices."
The organization is The Voice Project, which began 4 years ago when Heaney and Anna Gabriel, daughter of Peter Gabriel, teamed up with friends to support efforts using music in bringing home child soldiers from war in central Africa. Defections from Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army have significantly increased over the last few years, and researchers point to these types of "come home" programs as one of the main reasons. And as The Voice Project documents in the film "Amplify Peace - Musicians United", so have music driven efforts been able to decrease instances of hostility towards surrendering combatants. But these efforts are a long way from defending protest singers in Wisconsin and Russia. Mr. Heaney explains, "we started with wanting to amplify efforts where music was making the most significant and measurable impact on the world, and we're still doing that. But as we branched out into other parts of the globe, we've found with increasing frequency that freedom of expression is under attack. And without that foundational right, efforts to use art and music to effect social change can't even begin. So we've dedicated ourselves to this fight and we're going in full force, rolling up our sleeves to help on these issues like we did with Pussy Riot, like we're doing now with Wisconsin. And there will be more to come. Unfortunately, there's no shortage of cases."
The #SolidarityWisconsin video was shot prior to the recent attacks on the Russian activists which occurred in a Nizhny Novgorod McDonalds, and Wisconsin protester Michael Kissick yesterday returned the support in a private message to the women: "The Wisconsin Solidarity Sing Along and I are saddened and shocked about the brutal attack at the restaurant recently. Please accept our sincere wishes for a complete recovery. We acknowledge and appreciate your courage and fortitude. Solidarity!"

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES CONTINUE TO SELL OUT
LISTEN TO ELBOW ON NPR'S WEEKEND EDITION HERE
(AIRED 03/08/14)
Today, elbow released their sixth studio album titled ‘The Take Off and Landing of Everything’, which is now available on iTunes , Amazon (CD, Deluxe & Vinyl), Spotify , Google Play and in all good record stores across North America.
The lead single from their current full-length album, is the powerful ‘ New York Morning ’, an ode to New York City, with lyrics partly inspired by chief lyricist and front-man Guy Garvey’s time spent writing and “people watching” in Brooklyn and Manhattan. He recently told The Independent (UK) how a press conference that John Lennon held (before he left the UK for good) also motivated him to write the track, “Why wouldn’t you go to New York?” Lennon enthusiastically asked the press. “Every nation on Earth is represented, all getting along – it’s the modern Rome. Besides, they’re nice to Yoko”.
In response to the song, Yoko recently responded to the lyrical observation with a note to the band , thanking them, also noting “For John, he always wanted to come and live in this city, ever since he saw Bob Dylan on the famous album cover…” She finishes with a warm “Have a great time in New York. We loved it.” The band will be performing in New York City to a sold out crowd at Webster Hall on May 16, and will be making numerous stops across North American the same month (dates below).
In other news, this past weekend the band were featured on the prestigious NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturdaywith Scott Simon, with a delightful interview with front-man Guy Garvey and bass player Pete Turner. Listen to the broadcast which features tracks from ‘The Take Off and Landing of Everything’ here .
The new album is already generating rave reviews. Q Magazine’s April cover story includes a glowing 5 STARalbum review that states: 'The Take Off and Landing of Everything' is the perfect expression yet of everything that is elbow. As their best album to date, it will lift your heart and fill your soul…This is the sound of a band throwing their arms around the world.” MOJO’s 4 STAR review similarly asserts: “Theirs is the graceful ability to elevate the everyday.”
'The Take Off and Landing of Everything' (Fiction/Concord Records) was recorded at Real World Studiosand at the band’s facilities at Blueprint Studios in Salford, England. As with previous albums, the million selling 'The Seldom Seen Kid 'and platinum follow-up 'build a rocket boys!', it was produced by the band’s keyboardist Craig Potter.

Joan As Police Woman Releases The Classic
Joan As Police Woman Releases The Classic
available digitally today via [PIAS] Recordings

"contains some of her most ebullient songs yet" – Brooklyn Vegan
"full of smoky vocals and slinky melodies that are unmistakably hers" – Allmusic.com
The much-anticipated new album The Classic from Joan As Police Woman is released today via [PIAS] Recordings.
"I'm in the best place I've ever been in my life," declares Joan Wasser, and she's just recorded the album that proves it. The Classic, the fourth album of originals by the uniquely charismatic artist known as Joan As Police Woman, builds on the creative impetus and success of its 2011 predecessor The Deep Field.
As ever Joan strives to create music rooted in an intimate, elemental and uplifting brand of soul combined with her own unique serene, torch-singing temperament, but whereas melancholy was a principle feature of Joan's earlier work, this time there's a more liberated feel than ever before.
Famously a key member of Antony Hegarty's Johnsons and Rufus Wainwright's band until she began making her own records, Joan was inspired by their combined piano balladry while infusing it with her own stripped-down-soul and torch-song approach. Her 2006 album debut Real Life was followed by To Survive (2008), written in the aftermath of her mother's death; in 2009, she released an interim covers album simply called Cover, before The Deep Field confirmed Joan had started a full recovery and was determined to beat the blues. Which takes us to The Classic, where Joan reaches even further toward the light.
