Listen to “What You Isn’t” here:https://soundcloud.com/wastedyouthpr/brian-jonestown-massacre-what/s-qA0r2Encompassing all the weirdness that has been discovered in the past 40 years,Revelation advances the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound of mixing eastern influences with western rock. Two-dozen band members later and numerous “ups and downs” (some have been famously sensationalized in the media), the one thing that has always remained consistent for this psychedelic collective, is front man Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe.
Recorded from late 2012-2014, Revelation is the first album that was fully recorded and produced at Anton’s recording studio in Berlin, Germany. Original band member, Ricky Maymi plays guitar on this album plus features a vocal performance in Swedish byJoachim Alhund (Les Big Byrd/Teddybears) on “Vad Hände Med Dem?” Other special guests include: Constatine Karlis (Dimmer) on drums, Ryan Van Kriedt (Asteroid #4) on guitar, and Anton plays the rest.

Most of the time I would classify my work " śruti ," i.e. "what is heard" definition of the word “revelation.” But on this album and with these songs, there was nothing. No ideas and no guidance and I was still able to create the record for me. That was a revelation.”

Highasakite Premieres Live Video for "Leaving No Traces"

Norway’s Highasakite Hits The Stage In ‘Leaving No Traces’ (Video Premiere)Norwegian band Highasakite filmed a hometown show in February at a sold-out club in Oslo for a new video for their song “Leaving No Traces,” which premieres today on Speakeasy. The indie-pop quintet shows a dramatic flair in the clip, bringing a stadium-sized stage presence to the rather more intimate venue. Beams of light illuminate dry-ice smoke for an ethereal glow as frontwoman Ingrid Helene Håvik, synth players Marte Eberson and Øystein Skar and guitarist Kristoffer Lo blend their voices in layers of rich harmony. The gig was a “big highlight in our career so far,” drummer Trond Bersu told Speakeasy. He continued, “The live production is quite huge and we think that both the massive sound and visuals lift the songs and give the audience something they can’t experience by just listening to the album. We love to play live and give that little extra.”

Highlights of the long weekend include public radio host Ira Glass’ new live show, Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host; Brian Greene’s Icarus at the Edge of Time accompanied by a live performance of Glass’ score conducted by Michael Riesman; an evening of music and spoken word with Glass on piano, spoken word artist Jerry Quickley and renowned instrumentalists Tim Fain (vioin), Matt Haimovitz (cello) and Jaron Lanier; and a screening of Visitors , the latest collaboration between Glass and director Godfrey Reggio, accompanied by a live Q&A. In addition to screenings, the daytime events will include participatory gatherings of visual and sound artists and workshops for children. Full schedule to be announced soon.
Glass envisions the Days and Nights Festival as encompassing and nurturing the arts in a way that welcomes the future while exploring the seminal developments in the arts throughout history. Future seasons will delve ever further into the evolution of the arts across time and space.
The composer has chosen Big Sur and the surrounding area, world famous for its beauty, as the future home of the Philip Glass Center for the Arts, Science and the Environment. Over time, the Center will develop a broad array of interdisciplinary activities including live (filmed and recorded) performance, exhibitions, seminars and publications. “The Days and Nights Festival was my first step towards the establishment of a center,” notes Glass. “The idea was to present a condensed sample of the work intended for the Center.”
For more than five decades, Glass continues to be at the forefront of contemporary music and art. In the early 1960s, Glass spent two years of intensive study in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and while there, earned money by transcribing Ravi Shankar’s Indian music into Western notation. By 1974, Glass had a number of innovative projects, creating a large collection of new music for The Philip Glass Ensemble and for the Mabou Mines Theater Company. This period culminated in Music in Twelve Parts and the landmark opera Einstein on the Beach, for which he collaborated with Robert Wilson. Since Einstein, Glass has expanded his repertoire to include music for opera, dance, theater, chamber ensemble, orchestra and film. His scores have received Academy Award nominations (Kundun, The Hours, Notes on a Scandal) and a Golden Globe (The Truman Show). Several new works have been unveiled, including The Perfect American (2013, Teatro Real Madrid), Book of Longing, a collaboration with Leonard Cohen (2007, Luminato, Toronto Festival of Arts and Creativity) and Appomattox (2007, San Francisco Opera), an opera about the end of the Civil War.

THE HOLD STEADY RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR "I HOPE THIS WHOLE THING DIDN'T FRIGHTEN YOU"
ANNOUNCE NEW TOUR DATES
The Hold Steady have released a new video for the song "I Hope This Whole Thing Didn't Frighten You," the first track from their recently released album, Teeth Dreams (Positive Jams/Washington Square). The high-energy clip directed by Brooks Jones was shot at the already legendary 10th anniversary show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in February and shows the band on stage in full-throttle, and cuts in exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
Watch: The Hold Steady - "I Hope This Whole Thing Didn't Frighten You" Video
The band are announcing a slew of summer tour dates that begin in Asbury Park, NJ, on June 27 and end in Santa Fe on August 6. The first two shows will be co-headlining dates with Drive-By Truckers, with festival stops in Milwaukee (SummerFest), East Lansing, MI (Common Ground), Telluride, CO )The Ride Festival, Philadelphia (XPoNential Festival), Edmonton, AB, Canada (Interstellar Rodeo), Richmond, VA (Fall Line Festival) and Boston, MA (Boston Calling). Cheap Girls will serve as support July 14 - August 6. The complete list of The Hold Steady tour dates is below A presale via the band's fanclub and theholdsteady.net begins Wednesday at 10am local time. More dates will be announced soon.
Teeth Dreams is the New York band's sixth album and first on its own Positive Jams imprint via new label Washington Square, itself a newly established imprint formed by Razor & Tie. The album was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Rush, Evanescence) at Rock Falcon Studios in Franklin, TN.
Teeth Dreams has been receiving raves from the press. The New York Times claimed, "The Hold Steady has boldly rebuilt its music from within. The band's essence is still the voice and words of Craig Finn, an elliptical storyteller who sings (and talk-sings) with a robust grit," while Rolling Stone said, "The Brooklyn crew's punked-up bar-band rock is more streamlined now. But the addition of a second guitarist makes for a big sound that gives Finn more room for detail and nuance." The Associated Press exclaimed, "The Hold Steady's New Album Is Classic," and USA Today gave the record three and a half out of four stars saying, "Blue-collar rock and gritty story-songs of desperation and sketchy connections infuse the Brooklyn band's powerful sixth album. Ferocious, chiming guitars frame Craig Finn's half-spoken narratives of lives on the edge." In their A- review, the AV Club enthused, "The Hold Steady as a whole has at last jelled into a rock band-nothing more, nothing less, and nothing held back," and Stereogum hailed, "The Hold Steady is back to being one of our great working rock bands, a force that we should not take for granted."
The Hold Steady is: Bobby Drake (Drums), Craig Finn (Vocals), Tad Kubler (Guitar, vocals), Galen Polivka (Bass) and Steve Selvidge (Guitar, vocals).

King Dude's latest album, entitled Fear is out next week on Not Just Religious Music it was produced by the legendary Bill Rieflin (Ministry, Swans, Pigface, etc) and today T.J. is streaming the record in it's entirety via Pitchfork Advance.
Below are some of TJ's thoughts on Fear and what it really means to terrify people through song.
When I set out to write the follow up record to my last record Burning Daylight I hadn't quite realized what I was going to do for it's themes and overall concept. Although I had one crystal clear intention - To make the most horrifying music I could. So with that in mind I began to write what would later become Fear.
Now writing a record that is horrifying to me is one thing, writing a record that is horrifying to everyone in the whole world is some other thing altogether. So I really had to begin to think about what inner fear every single person possibly could have. Of course the most common fear everyone on Earth shares would be the fear of dying. But that seemed too obvious to write a record called "Fear" and have it be about the fear of death. There are already way too many songs written about being afraid to die (or not afraid to die for that matter) in fact I have written a few of them myself.
So I chose the next most obvious fear I felt everyone shared. And that is the fear felt during early adolescence. As we move away from our childhood towards our adulthood we (in a sense) watch helplessly from the confides of our own slowly deforming, prepubescent bodies as the "child-mind" is ripped away only (or buried deeply into our subconscious) only to be replaced by the cruel, maniacal, sex crazed "adult-mind" also known as the ultimate product of a civilized adult world reality.
The two other themes that I chose for this record are static in nature, or how shall I say, more tangible. And those two themes are "mirrors" and "telephones". Mirror reflections are often associated in the subconscious with our relationship to our physical bodies but they serve another hidden terrifying purpose which is to remind us that we are in fact separated from the reality conjured in our minds. Another sort of reflection we cast of ourselves is that one of which we cast upon those around us and at times very far away from us through communication. Advanced communication came about recently with the advent of the telephone and the concept of "separation of the mind and body" reveals itself to our subconscious every time we "reach out and touch someone" The mirrored image plays an integral role in the concept of Fear, a concept that will be revealed to the listener when the record is finally in their hands.
Pulling together the biblical sound and isolation of the bygone days of revelation with an atmosphere filled with hope and salvation, King Dude has woven his own unique brand of purely American music. He brandishes many varied influences in his songwriting... Everything from British Folk, Americana, Country and Blues can be heard in his songs. Even Heavy Metal tends to slither it's way into the King Dude canon. The resulting songs are much more of a modern day hymn then your average pop song.
