April 21, 2014 - New York, NY – After playing live together since 2008, Sasha DobsonNorah Jonesand Catherine Popper have at last taken their collaboration into the studio. No Fools, No Fun their debut album – will be released on July 15 by Blue Note Records. The trio, known as Puss n Boots after flirtations with such monikers as Fangbanger, Dixie Fried and Shitstorm, will support the album with an East Coast run that kicks off on June 22 with an appearance at the Clearwater Festival in Croton-On-Hudson, NY. They will return to The Bell House in Brooklyn, one of their favorite hometown haunts, on July 15, play the 9:30 Club in Washington DC on July 17 and perform at the Newport Folk Festival (July 26-27). Tickets for the headline shows will go on sale this Friday, April 25. See below for itinerary.
Recorded at Studio G in Brooklyn with engineer/mixer Joel Hamilton,  No Fools, No Fun  includes five original songs – two each from Dobson and Popper and one from Jones – and seven spirited cover tunes, all culled from Puss n Boots’ live repertoire. The 12-song collection takes its name from the lyrics of “Bull Rider,” a Rodney Crowell song made famous by Johnny Cash. “Bull Rider” is one of three album tracks that Puss n Boots recorded live in June of 2013 at The Bell House. Over the years, they have also performed at the Bridge School Benefit, played stadiums with the Beastie Boys on the “Get Out The Vote” tour and joined Wilco onstage at Madison Square Garden, singing background vocals on “Jesus, Etc.,” a song that Puss n Boots interprets on  No Fools, No Fun .
“We had talked about recording for a long time. A listen to the live recordings of one of the Bell House shows gave us a kick in the pants,” says Catherine Popper. “The record is a snapshot of what we do, warts and all.”
The album   will be available for pre-order beginning June 17. Fans who pre-order  No Fools, No Fun on iTunes and Amazon.com will instantly receive a download of “Down By The River.” Puss n Boots’ take on the classic Neil Young track will be released as a digital single on June 17.
“‘Down By The River’ is one of my all time favorite Neil Young recordings and I've always had this fantasy of playing it and rocking the guitar solo,” recalls Norah Jones. “I never really thought I'd have the guts to do it, but that's sort of what this band has always been about, trying new things. We always egg each other on, whether it was Sasha playing drums, or Cat singing an original song for the first time on stage.”
“We have always thrived on our live performance. We rage onstage,” says Sasha Dobson. “It’s exciting to think the positive energy that’s created from this band could reach beyond a small club in Brooklyn.”

Jamestown Revival Announce Additional Headlining Tour Dates

Jamestown Revival Announce Additional Headlining Tour Dates

Jamestown Revival are excited to announce a run of headlining tour dates beginning in May. The band will be playing in major markets including Los Angeles (May 29 @ The Troubadour), San Francisco (June 01 @ Great American Music Hall), and New York City (June 24 @ Highline Ballroom). The band will also be performing this year at major festivals, including Bonnaroo and Hangout Fest. For the band's full itinerary, please see below.
The band recently released their debut album UTAH, featuring the song "California (Cast Iron Soul)" which the band performed on Conan. Check out their performance at the link below:
Jamestown Revival - "California (Cast Iron Soul)"
Jamestown Revival is made up of Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance, two close friends who grew up together in the small Texas town of Magnolia. From a young age, they shared a love for music as well as the outdoors.
At the age of 22, they moved to Austin and began to craft a sound of their own. Deeply rooted in harmony, they merged the sounds of the South with classic American, and Western rock. Looking for adventure, as well as a change of pace, they eventually made the decision to head west and make the move to Los Angeles, CA. There, the duo wrote the songs that would become theirfull-length debut, UTAH.
In order to capture the spirit of the music, the two found a log cabin high within the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The pair, along with their band and engineer, set out to convert it in to a temporary recording studio. With wild moose right outside the window, and aspen leaves spinning in the wind, they tracked the 11 songs that comprise UTAH.  Performed live, with no headphones, and entirely to tape, the process captured the moments in the room.

BO NINGEN MAKE THEIR BROOKLYN DEBUT || 4/25

BO NINGEN MAKE THEIR BROOKLYN DEBUT4/25 @ Knitting Factory, 4/27 @ Rough Trade
III  out via Stolen Recordings on May 20th

WATCH & SHARE: "DaDaDa"
"In the tradition of Japanese acid-rock bands such as Acid Mothers Temple and Ghost, the band takes its distortion-saturated arrangements to ecstatic heights".  Chicago Tribune
"Fast sludge rock that will likely pound Foster The People and their ilk into the turf, Bo Ningen will leave some bruises in its wake."  LA Times
After playing at multiple shows at SXSW and Coachella it's Brooklyn's turn to experience the ferocious live show that Bo Ningen put on. The band will hit Knitting Factory on April 25th and on April 27th they will play an in-store at Rough Trade (early show 2PM). The band is available for interviews and guest list is still available.

Bo Ningen's third album III will be released by Stolen Recordings on May 20th, 2014 (May 13th in UK/ROW). It is a rich and accomplished album that has seen them evolve musically. Collaborations with Jehnny Beth of Savages and Roger Robinson of King Midas Sound feature and they've sung partly in English for the first time. The album was recorded over several months with the band spending more time on the production and development of the songs. "III" illustrates Bo Ningen as a group with a singular vision, reaching for what they define as 'pure music', by turns esoteric and a no holds barred sensory assault.

The Horrors debut "So Now You Know" music video, Luminous out May 6

THE HORRORS REVEAL "SO NOW YOU KNOW" MUSIC VIDEO

Band will play upcoming shows in NYC, LA and Austin
New album Luminous available May 6 on XL Recordings
CHECK OUT VIDEO HEREhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr7TAfOkEVcLast month The Horrors unveiled "So Now You Know", the lead single from their 'weirder, wilder and more colorful' fourth album  Luminous , out May 6th on XL Recordings. The track is an otherworldly widescreen affair with the commanding vocals of Faris Badwan leading the way.

The "So Now You Know" video is a short surreal film about the loneliness of teenage life, and the world we create with our friends at that age.  Filmed on the outskirts of LA in an empty desert town which matches the hazy synths of the track in question, the treatment weaves between multiple protagonists each experiencing a moment of realization about their life, discovering a beauty in the mundane world and expressing this through interpretive dance. Faris also features in the video.

The band will head to the U.S. in April to play the Vans Classic & City Event series on Tuesday, April 29 in Brooklyn at the House of Vans before they make their way to Los Angeles to play a sold-out performance at the annual Britweek Music Sessions at the First Unitarian Church on May 1.  The Horrors will then travel to Austin to make an appearance at Austin Psych Festival. Since returning, the band have brought their new sound to the inaugural 6Music Festival in Manchester, where they headlined Stage 2, and the The Fly awards, where they performed "I See You" with Thurston Moore.

Luminous  is available to pre-order now on iTunes, with 'I See You' and 'So Now You Know' both available as an instant grat tracks.  For album advances please contact me at nikkibennett@xlrecordings.com

White Hinterland Premieres Video On VEVO; Currently On North American Tour

White HinterlandPhoto Credit: Derrick BelchamWhite Hinterland has just premiered the video for her song "Baby" on  VEVO , the title-track from her acclaimed new album, out now on Dead Oceans. "Baby" is a haunting, yet beautiful video which was directed by Anna Rose Holmer and shot in Casey's hometown in southeastern Massachusetts. Casey notes, "I was drawn to Anna's treatment because she puts a lot of heart into her work, and 'Baby' feels like the most raw and delicate of all the songs on the album ... whatever we did had to be especially personal. I wanted us to shoot it in my hometown because I think it's beautiful here. It feels like a visual love letter to the Scituate that I grew up in." Watch the video for "Baby" here Holmer goes on to say, "The treatment for the video started with an exploration of weakness as inner demon. I wanted the lyrics of the song to serve as a voiceover of sorts for a more narrative-driven video. My background is in film, so I tend to approach storytelling through that vocabulary."Casey recently set out on a US tour in support of her Rolling Stone and Pitchfork-approved new album, Baby, continuing to impress audiences with her incredible live performance. After wrapping up her run of North American dates, Casey will play a string of UK shows this May. Full tour schedule is below. Listen to Casey's Performance on WNYC Soundcheck here Biography / Freedom often begins from terror, and White Hinterland's third album, Baby, addresses the fear that comes along with breaking out of established rituals, or leaving a comfortable place, and striking out into the unknown. Four years after her profile-raising release,Kairos (2010), Casey Dienel aka White Hinterland has taken the gloves off and knuckled down to produce a deep, dark, heady mix of songs. After two and a half years of writing and recording material in Montreal and Portland, OR, Dienel moved back in to her family home in Scituate, MA. There she forged a new aesthetic, spending five months building her own studio, The Glades, in her parents' basement - the same space where she practiced piano and vocal lessons as a child. Determined to helm her new album, Dienel spent months studying production, poring over YouTube tutorials about Protools, mic'ing techniques and other minutiae.Armed with this self-taught skill and her new studio, Dienel set forth to subvert the existing power structure of male producer as svengali and female artist as figurehead (see: Billy Corgan/Courtney Love, Timbaland/Aaliyah, Phil Spector/The Ronettes). She created her own, new path on Baby, which showcases her as a singer/songwriter/producer who has only become bolder and more resolute over the past three-plus years. Calling in her friends as pinch hitters, Dienel worked acclaimed musicians Sean Carey (Bon Iver, S. Carey), Neal Morgan (Joanna Newsom, Bill Callahan), and Cole Kamen-Green (Beyoncé).On her early records, Dienel projected her fears and fantasies onto imaginary characters, role play, and lush atmospherics. If Kairos was a work of atmosphere, a forty-minute-long reverie without any narrative, thenBaby sits at the opposite end of that spectrum. Baby is about song craft. It is forceful, rooted in the physicality of the voice, percussion and piano, and it is about getting straight to the point, which Dienel does on the very first song. Lead-off track "Wait Until Dark" begins a capella, just Dienel's voice in a reverberant room. That voice is capable of carrying a significant melodic and emotional load, and on Baby's title track it swoops dramatically from an edge-of-cliff howl to her crystalline upper-range, then back down to a soulful growl. By the end of the song, sounding exhausted but ready to push forward, Dienel again drops away the arrangement, leaving just her voice, stripped bare and pushed to the very edges of its significant range, "Say I'll take a sip, but I can't leave a drop," she repeats over and over: "Is this my weakness?" These audacious choices were intentional, she says, "As producer I made the call to scale back the reverb, saw off the synths and seat my voice front and center for the first time. It was not accidental."The themes explored on Baby are universal but it is Dienel's singular reaction to what life has thrown in front of her that makes the record unique. "I would say the themes of this record to me are personal agency, strength, growth, determination," she posits. "And to get those things is usually fucking terrifying and comes with casualties and loss." Call it Millennial Anxiety, if you like. "White Noise" erupts over alcoholism and abandonment while "Wait Until Dark" and "Sickle No Sword" are paeans to violence and breaches of security. On the unsparing "Dry Mind" mention is made of "No Plan B, no B.A., No Exit." "Live With You" and "Baby" take aim at both the narrator and object of desire. "David" describes the dangerous lotus-eater effect of nostalgia, both a eulogy to the past and a celebration of life even at its most brutal. "No Devotion" asks the question of nature vs. nurture. Do we inherit these behaviors or are they learned over the time? And can we unlearn them?Baby's production is marked by extremes, and it continually returns to the piano, Dienel's first love. Where her earlier work occasionally showcased a strong Joni Mitchell influence, on new songs like "David" she finds herself in Fiona Apple territory. "Whatever you say, don't say we we're lucky. Whatever you do, don't call it chance," she croons with a mixture of regret and relief. "That's like saying it was an accident when I was running at you with my sharpest knife." Her lifelong love of R&B and gospel also comes to the fore, these resonant styles complement and contrast the sharp dynamic shifts, booming drums, and blasts of brass. Consider "Ring the Bell": her confident vocals buoy the song as it grows larger and more forthright, winding itself up into a maelstrom that feels like the seasick experience of falling head over heels in love. On "Metronome," Baby's centerpiece and most assertive track, she declares, "All day long I'm a boss." She's not asking for someone to serve as a steadying influence, but instead requiring that it's necessary to keep up withher.Dienel's Baby is both the pop cliché of "Oooh, Baby Baby" and Dienel telling herself to stop being such a baby. It is a word of both endearment and dismissal, repurposed to serve her needs. It's a cathartic embrace of hardship, the crucible which can forge the strongest steel. It is the past three years of her life distilled into song: joy, heartbreak, frustration, longing, disappointment, anger, and loss accumulated, poured out and reborn in this new, unflinching release. BUST Magazine Debuts Jihae's Stunning Video for "Illusion of You" + Live Date

BUST Debuts Jihae’s Music Video For “Illusion Of You”

Jihae to Perform Private Show on April 23
@ The Standard Village East

“’Illusion of You’ is a passionate, somber address that features Jihae’s polished, fierce vocals mourning the loss of a deceitful lover.” – BUST

Jihae is slinky and spacious and a little weird around the edges” – Pitchfork

A dark dream pop track with a sultry, Lana Del Rey-esque vocal”
 American Songwriter

“Jihae feels more like something I dreamed up than an actual person...[with] her androgynous voice and deadpan delivery that cuts right through you.” – MTV Iggy

South Korean born, New York by way of Nigeria, Sweden, and UK, the multi-talented Jihae has been pouring her soul into on her upcoming release, Illusion of You (Fall, 2014). Now she has released a passionate music video for the album’s first single “Illusion of You,” on BUST, who raves: “mellow out and get lost in the dreamy, ethereal soundscapes of Jihae’s grayscale world.” (Click here to view and share)

The music video connects seamlessly to the track’s theme, playing with contradictions, illusions and a poetic internal battle between fantasy and reality. Jihae’s face, painted to resemble the yin and the yang, a struggle for power in between darkness and light, shifts and shimmers to trick the eye, creating an ethereal, dreamlike quality to the work. More than just a music video, “Illusion of You” is a work of art.

Jihae’s upcoming album includes a track co-written with Leonard Cohen and Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), the latter of whom described Jihae as "Like Bowie whispering secrets to the Velvet Underground.”  Jihae has opened for Sonic YouthLou Reed, and has also collaborated with Michel GondryMarco Brambilla, among many other stellar artists. She is also extremely active with charities and raising awareness for many causes, performing at events for Willie Mae Rock Camp, Acumen, the United Nations,Hillary Clinton's 2012 Hours Against Hate, and others.
Jihae was recently a featured guest at DJ Spooky’s video launch party at La Mema/Culturehub at the Seoul Institute of the Arts.

Don’t Miss Jihae on Weds, April 23

It's no wonder why The Zombies asked Mystic Braves to open their L.A. show last year. While the hometown favorites were barely even a blip on their respective parents' radars when Odessey and Oracle was released, the psych-steeped five-piece sounds like they stepped straight out of the '60s. And not in an obvious, someone's-been-studying-their Nuggets-comps-until-the-grooves-give-out sort of way, either. We're talking a richer, fuller plot of references (garage-borne greats like The Electric Prunes, The Chocolate Watchband and The Music Machine) that filter the band's hook-centric purple haze through robust organ rolls, runaway guitar riffs, heat-stroked horns and a rhythm section that can only be described as "restless".Especially on Desert Island, a scrappy extension of the self-titled debut Mystic Braves dropped in 2013. From the ravenous opening remarks of "Bright Blue Day Haze"—the first song frontman Julian Ducatenzeiler wrote for the outfit, making it their mission statement in more ways than one—right on through the wild-eyed melodies of "Earthshake," the filler-free effort is more aggressive than their last album yet about as immediately accessible as vapor-trailed rock music gets these days. It's sunshine in a bottle, really, which can only be expected from a group with such deep California roots."The west coast has it all really—beaches, mountains, deserts, cities, suburbs," explains Ducatenzeiler,  who's rounded out by drummer Cameron Gartung, guitarist Shane Stotsenberg, bassist Tony Malacara and organist/tambourinist Ignacio Gonzalez. "Our sound is merely a byproduct of the environments we grew up in and the experiences we had. We're not trying to deliberately channel '60s music, either; we simply write sensible pop songs from the heart with psychedelic textures and tones. It just comes natural to us."
