RECORD STORE DAY LIMITED EDITION 12”"Depending on how you look at it they’re either the Grandaddies of Psych, a bunch of pricks on mind-bending drugs, the stars of Dig!, or maybe you’ve never heard them before. Whatever, who cares. All you need to know is that they’re back, baby." –   NOISEY  Track Premiere (March 20) “What You Isn’t” Q Magazine Track of The Day (March 24)
Brian Jonestown Massacre will release their 14th album,  Revelation , on May 20, 2014through A Records (Redeye Distribution). Listen to “What You Isn’t” here:https://soundcloud.com/wastedyouthpr/brian-jonestown-massacre-what/s-qA0r2Encompassing all the weirdness that has been discovered in the past 40 years, Revelationadvances the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound of mixing eastern influences with western rock. Two-dozen band members later and numerous “ups and downs” (some have been famously sensationalized in the media), the one thing that has always remained consistent for this psychedelic collective, is front man Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe.
Recorded from late 2012-2014, Revelation is the first album that was fully recorded and produced at Anton’s recording studio in Berlin, Germany. Original band member, Ricky Maymi plays guitar on this album plus features a vocal performance in Swedish byJoachim Alhund (Les Big Byrd/Teddybears) on “Vad Hände Med Dem?” Other special guests include: Constatine Karlis (Dimmer) on drums, Ryan Van Kriedt (Asteroid #4) on guitar, and Anton plays the rest.
Anton also releases music by other bands through his A Records including: Les Big Byrd The Worshipped   Cats  (May 20), Blue Angel Lounge A Sea Of Trees  (May 20),The KVB Out of Body  (June 3) who were recently named one of Alternative Press’ 100 Bands You Need To Know This Year.
Brian Jonestown Massacre are confirmed to headline Austin Psych Fest and select live dates on the West Coast in May.  The band will then begin a 45-date tour of mainland Europe including the band’s first ever dates in Warsaw, Prague and Athens: http://www.brianjonestownmassacre.com/?news=euro-tour-2014
Anton explains why the album is named Revelation:“The simple answer is I love the word. Most of the time I would classify my work " śruti ," i.e. "what is heard" definition of the word “revelation.” But on this album and with these songs, there was nothing. No ideas and no guidance and I was still able to create the record for me. That was a revelation.”

Lord Huron's "Ends of the Earth" video premieres at LA Times!

LORD HURON’S “ENDS OF THE EARTH” VIDEO PREMIERES AT LOS ANGELES TIMES
BAND TO TOUR THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER
CRITICS CONTINUE TO HAIL DEBUT ALBUM LONESOME DREAMS  Photo Credit: Jessica Yurasek  The video for “Ends of the Earth” (directed by Kevin Donelan), off critically acclaimed Lord Huron’s debut Lonesome Dreams , is now streaming at Los Angeles Times’ Pop & Hiss Blog: http://lat.ms/1mA548P. The clip follows the recent premiere of the video for the latest single “She Lit a Fire” at  The New York Times  (watch here:http://youtu.be/VUxh-jw-C-w). Lonesome Dreams continues to garner widespread praise: “...Songs that feel wide-open and ambitious, but also giddy and unpredictable.”—NPR “…music sails above those geographic and romantic landscapes as a thoroughly tuneful, reverberant extension of folk-rock and country-rock…”—The New York Times
“The indie-folk band paints a vivid landscape with upbeat, warm melodies and the dreamy vocals.”—USA Today
“…Campfire strumming and robust vocal harmonies ghosted by tuneful howls…”—Rolling Stone
“Harmonic, propulsive folk pop at once radiant and chilly…”—New York Magazine
“Lord Huron’s music is so impressionistic, it sometimes sounds like it emanates from a dream.”—Boston Globe
“What sets the project apart is the level of their craft andthe feeling of travel and discovery in the lyrics and sound.”—LA Weekly
Gut-level, emotive songwriting that hits directly and honestly.”—Pitchfork Lord Huron made their first network television appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and most recently performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Furthermore, the band has added tour dates throughout the summer, including various festival slots and a special performance with The National at Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park. The new dates round out a massive year of touring for Lord Huron, including their largest U.S. headlining run, their first large-scale U.K. outing, and numerous sold out shows nationwide, in addition to appearances at major festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Firefly and Newport Folk Festival, among others. See below for further details. Originally a musical and visual solo project by lead singer and Michigan native-turned-Angeleno Ben Schneider, collaborators now include Mark Barry (percussion, vocals), Miguel Briseno (bass, percussion), and Tom Renaud (guitar, vocals). Schneider started playing music as a child—most often on summer nights around the campfire on Lake Huron. He went on to study art in college and lived in France and New York before moving to Los Angeles in 2005 to pursue a career in the visual arts. Schneider’s passion for art and music are often intertwined, and he has composed music for various visual art projects over the years. In 2010, Schneider self-released his first EP, Into the Sun, online, complete with original artwork. The songs gained traction and Schneider set to work recruiting musicians to help him translate the recordings into a live performance. LORD HURON TOUR DATESMay 9                                                        Richmond, VA                               Friday Cheers FestivalMay 10                                                         Atlanta, GA                             Shaky Knees Music FestMay 10                                                         Atlanta, GA                                             Terminal WestMay 31-June 1                                            Houston, TX                             Free Press Summer FestJune 7-8                                                       Toronto, CA                                       Field Trip FestivalJune 18                                                       Brooklyn, NY          Celebrate Brooklyn at Prospect ParkJuly 3-6                                                        Quincy, CA                          High Sierra Music FestivalJuly 11                                                       Cleveland, OH                                          House of BluesJuly 12                                                          Detroit, MI                                         MO POP FestivalJuly 13                                                         Ottawa, CA                                          Ottawa BluesfestJuly 15                                                 South Burlington, VT                     Higher Ground BallroomJuly 16                                                        Portland, ME                                               State TheatreJuly 17                                                       Westbury, NY                             The Space At WestburyJuly 18                                                       Pittsburgh, PA                                  Mr. Small’s TheatreJuly 19                                                       Louisville, KY                                      Forecastle FestivalAugust 7-10                                              Darrington, WA                      Summer Meltdown FestivalAugust 8-10                                            Squamish, Canada                                        Squamish Fest

DAVID BYRNE’S HERE LIES LOVE CAST RECORDING

DAVID BYRNE’S HERE LIES LOVE CAST RECORDING TO BE RELEASED MAY 6 ON NONESUCH RECORDS
ALBUM FEATURES ACCLAIMED PERFORMERS FROM PUBLIC THEATER’S PRODUCTION, WHICH RETURNED TO STAGE ON APRIL 14   “insidiously infective songs”—New York Times“From leads to ensemble, the cast is topnotch.”—New York Daily News
Nonesuch Records will release the cast recording of David Byrne’s Here Lies Loveon May 6. The recording features music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim as performed by the original 2013 Public Theater cast of the Here Lies Love musical starring Ruthie Ann Milesand Jose Llana as Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos. Here Lies Love will be released digitally and as a two CD set and is available for pre-order at nonesuch.com with an instant download of the track “Child of the Philippines.”
The physical copy of the recording includes a 52-page full color book with lyrics, credits, an introduction by Public Theater director Oskar Eustis and two essays about the creation of the piece by Byrne.
Here Lies Love premiered at New York’s Public Theater in April of last year and was extended four times. It won an Obie Award for music and lyrics; an Outer Critics Circle Award; Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music, Lighting Design, and Projection Design; and two Theatre World Awards. The musical and its principal cast returned this spring with performances that began on April 14; opening night is set for May 1. The Public’s production was hailed by theNew York Observer as “the must-see event of the season” and by Vogue as “a life-giving, roof-raising, booty-shaking blast of joy.”
Marcos’s love for disco and club music served as the inspiration for the musical, telling the story of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos, retracing her meteoric rise to power and subsequent descent into infamy and disgrace at the end of the People Power Revolution.
Here Lies Love, which draws its name from Imelda’s requested tombstone epitaph, was originally released in 2010 as an album with multiple singers performing the lead roles, including Santigold, Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine), Sia, Steve Earle, St. Vincent, Natalie Merchant, Tori Amos, Sharon Jones, Nicole Atkins, and many others.
The cast recording of Here Lies Love features seven new songs written specifically for the musical including “Child of the Philippines,” “The Fabulous One,” based on Ninoy Aquino’s famous speech “A Pantheon for Imelda,” and “God Draws Straight,” based on the book People Power: An Eyewitness History. Of the new songs written for the musical, Byrne says “I was thrilled with the result—I’d been gently nudged by my collaborators to write something that I’d never tried before.”
Byrne collaborated with director Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) to bring the music to the stage. Ruthie Ann Miles’ starring performance was praised as “striking” by New York magazine, “magnetic, sexy and poignant” by the New York Post, and “vivid and haunting” by the New York Daily NewsEntertainment Weekly declares “not only does [Miles] have a lovely, dynamic set of pipes, but she also infuses the first lady with just the right amount of strength and sensitivity.” Miles earned a Theatre World Award for her performance. The cast recording of Here Lies Love also features Renee Albulario, Melody Butiu, Natalie Cortez, Debralee Daco, Joshua Dela Cruz, Kelvin Moon Loh, Jeigh Madjus, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Conrad Ricamora, Trevor Salter, and Janelle Velasquez. Here Lies Love Track Listing:

tUnE-yArDs shares video for 'Water Fountain' starts tour with Arcade Fire

Watch New Video for tUnE-yArDs' 'Water Fountain'Nikki Nack out May 6 via 4AD
Tour dates with Arcade Fire start TONIGHT!
Nikki Nack - the new album from tUnE-yArDs - is out in less than two weeks, and to coincide with their first show with Arcade Fire tonight, they have just premiered the album's first video!

Combining a plethora of different visual elements, from animation to puppetry, dancing, and even a science lesson, 'Water Fountain' is a video every bit as colorful as tUnE-yArDs' music.

Directed by Joel Kefali, he writes that "when Merril approached me wanting to make a video with a PeeWee's Playhouse vibe I had to say yes. I'd had plenty of ideas for a kid's show that had been waiting to see the light of day. I didn't want to make a straight homage piece; there are moments of nostalgia in there but the video is our own modern, manic, collage of a kids show. Like many great kids shows I wanted to cram in as many ideas as possible and sneak in the occasional wink to the art world, contemporary and historic. The musical dynamic of 'Water Fountain' lends itself perfectly to the concept and I think this video is best viewed while consuming a big bowl of cereal. Then again, what isn't?"

Nikki Nack will be released by 4AD on May 6th.

The recently reunited Constantines are set to reissue their landmark 2003 album, Shine a Light, as a vinyl-only release on Sub Pop June 9th in Europe and June 10th in the U.S. The album will be reissued in Canada June 10th by You’ve Changed Records.

Shine a Light has been out of print on vinyl since 2006. This 12-track reissue will feature slightly altered artwork and comes with a 7” single of the following tracks: “Thank You for Sending Me an Angel” (Talking Heads cover) and “Hotline Operator (2003)” from the Nighttime CD-single and “Raw Youth” (CBC Radio 3 recording of a Royal City cover) from the Young Lions CD-single. A limited “Loser Edition” of this Shine a Light reissue, on orange vinyl, will be available at select independent record stores and with pre-orders at You’ve Changed in Canada, and Sub Pop for the rest of the world. Please find complete tracklistings for the album and single below.

To celebrate the reunion and reissue, the Constantines have also announced a handful of Canadian tour dates for this summer. Additional live dates will be announced soon. In related Constantines news, the band’s Bry Webb has also announced a solo album, Free Will, that will be available May 20th on Idée Fixe Records. He’ll support  the album with a series of solo dates opening for Sub Pop recording artist Chad VanGaalen in May. Please find a complete list of related tour dates below (see alsoSPIN.com April 23rd).

About the Constantines Shine a Light:
Shine a Light was the Constantines’ second full-length and first for Sub Pop. And the record is ambitious, combining a steady diet of ‘90s DC rock (like a Joe Strummer-fronted Fugazi, it’s been suggested), with dub-inflected bass, blue-eyed soul and a fundamental punk, anytime/anywhere aesthetic (perhaps best described by drummer Doug MacGregor as, “Like an unwelcome mix of a Memphis Clash and breakneck dub”). The opening lines from the title track hint at the difficulty in nailing down the elusive “it” that is at play on this record, “Don’t talk to me about simple things/There’s no such thing/All a man can build is his vision/And I love my man for trying.”

NO PEACE DUE MAY 27 VIA ODD FUTURE RECORDS
Trash Talk photographed by Thursday Friday Today, Trash Talk is back announce the release of their fifth studio album, No Peace. Due May 27th via Odd Future Records, the band is sharing lead single "Cloudkicker" along with all album details (including its cover art that created by legendary filmmaker and photographer AriMarcopoulos). Check out the new track, full album details, album pre-order link, and the band's remaining tour dates with The Dillinger Escape Plan below.  LISTEN: "Cloudkicker" - https://soundcloud.com/ofwgkta-official/trash-talk-cloudkicker
WATCH: No Peace teaser - http://youtu.be/SjCmQm5gdrY
More about Trash Talk and No Peace:
No Peace is a promise and a threat. It's the name of 32 minutes of recorded concussions delivered by Trash Talk on Odd Future Records. It is hardcore punk, it is hardcore hip-hop, it's a way of telling you to shut the fuck up if you're try to pigeonhole it.
There's a certain futility in trying to translate Trash Talk's assault into adjectives. The only possible response when hearing No Peace is to start a mosh pit or crack someone in the ribs.  You should probably seem them live, honestly. Lee Spielman incites the crowd like a Hun. The guitars and drums blister. The crowd becomes a melee. There will probably be blood. It's like if Black Flag got pulled under the Timbo's of M.O.P. If you got sent to the firing squad, middle fingers up, I would recommend that you play this.
No Peace is music for the sake of aggression. Recorded in New York City, this is the closest Trash Talk has come to capturing the chaos on wax. Legendary hip-hop producer Alchemist contributes two filthy beats that Trash Talk drag through the gutter, knuckles up. Drums like brass knuckles. A bonus track features King Krule and Wiki from Rat King spitting rain on soft skulls.
Trash Talk are as mad as anyone, so they snap back. They aren't trying to tell lucid stories as much as vividly render emotions. It sounds like bone shards swirling in a hurricane. As The Fader said: "Nirvana seems tame compared to Trash Talk." Pitchfork called their previous EP Awake, "thrilling and great," giving it "Best New Music."
The lyrics are an attempt to figure things out. Stitch the phrases together and it's an almost universal indictment: ""I've made mistakes.... I'm sick of it... It's been that way for far too long... thought I'd leave a legacy after me... don't ever forget this is what you chose... shaved my head, bit my tongue... crack rock... junked up passed out... crashed out on the overpass... traded in a dream now I need a needle to sleep."
This isn't some idle fixation for the edge. This captures the squalor and unpleasant scenes that occur outside of the band's LA warehouse headquarters. Shit is real if you're paying attention. No Peace will ensure you are. Bang it loud until your eardrums pop.     Tour Dates4/22 - Senator Theatre - Chico, CA 4/23 - DNA Lounge - San Francisco, CA  4/24 - Echoplex - Los Angeles, CA 4/25 - The Glass House - Pamona, CA  4/26 - Porters Pub -La Jolla, CA

Sub Pop Festival: Brazil, Chile, Argentina May 10th-16th, 2014

2014 SUB POP FESTIVAL IN SAO PAULO, GOIANIA, SANTIAGO, AND  BUENOS AIRES Brazil’s first-ever Sub Pop Festival, featuring Mudhoney, METZ and Obits will take place in May of 2014. A screening of the Mudhoney documentary film I’m Now, followed by a panel discussion with members of Mudhoney and METZ, and Sub Pop General Manager Chris Jacobs will kick off the event in Brazil. Preceding all of this, Mudhoney and METZ will make Sub Pop Festival stops in both Chile and Argentina.

Construtora Música e Cultura and Inker Agência Cultural are honored to announce the very first SUB POP FESTIVAL, in Sao Paulo (May 14 and 15) and Goiania (May 16, as part of Festival Bananada), following appearances in Santiago, Chile (May 10), and Buenos Aires, Argentina (May 11).Founded in 1988 by Bruce Pavitt and  Jonathan Poneman, SUB POP RECORDS set out to bring new independent bands from Washington State to international attention. In less than four years, SUB POP became known around the world, with early releases by Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney, putting Seattle on the global map. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2013, the label has gone on to help shape the world of underground rock and make important inroads into popular culture.

Sub Pop Festival organizers worked in close collaboration with the label to bring all three of this year’s artists to South America. For this first edition of the SUB POP FESTIVAL, the bands chosen represent the timeless appeal of the more raucous end of the Sub Pop spectrum: the seminal super-fuzz of Seattle’s Mudhoney, the loud and ecstatic noise-rock of Toronto trio METZ, and the melodic and muscular indie/garage rock of New York’s Obits.

Mudhoney also celebrated their 25th anniversary in 2013 and this will be their sixth time in Brazil. Frequently referenced alongside Nirvana, Sonic  Youth and Pearl Jam (Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard played in Green River with Mark and Steve from Mudhoney some 30 years ago), Mudhoney has more releases on Sub Pop than any other band. Their latest album, 2013’s Vanishing Point, shows them as sharp and fervent as ever.

While Mudhoney are Sub Pop veterans, Toronto power trio METZ are new-comers with teeth. METZ’s 2012 self-titled debut was described by The New Yorker as, “...a punishing, noisy, exhilarating thing, a deeply impolite racket that will only sound better live…” And The Guardian offered, “...a crush collision of Beatles melody and Big Black attack.”

Obits are a 4-piece band from New York who share members with bands such as Hot Snakes, Edsel, Drive Like Jehu, and Girls Against Boys. They have released three full-length records on Sub Pop, the latest of which is the 2013 release Bed & Bugs. They have been described as “...one of America's mightiest, smartest rock bands playing at peak power” (by Exclaim!). Obits will perform at the two Sub Pop Festival events in Brazil only.

Mudhoney, METZ and Obits will play at Audio Club, São Paulo on May 15th, and also in Goiania, as part of Festival Bananada 2014 on May 16th. Mudhoney will also play in Uberlandia May 13th at Club Lounge for fans in Minas Gerais State.

May 14th fans are invited to a screening of I’m Now: The Story of Mudhoney, the documentary film covering Mudhoney’s journey from beginning to the present day. After the screening at Cine Olido, Mudhoney’s Mark Arm and Steve Turner, Chris Slorach from METZ, and SUB POP’s General Manager Chris Jacobs will discuss music, their experiences in their respective bands, and the label’s past, present and future with those in attendance.
 Chris Jacobs by Chris Jacobs:
“Chris is the General Manager for Sub Pop Records, the Seattle record label perhaps most well-known for unintentionally ending the recording careers of such longstanding and excellent bands as Sleater-Kinney, Dead Moon and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Hired at Sub Pop in 1997 as Tour Publicist, during the functional equivalent of a managerial shift-change, Chris has since failed upwards into a wide range of positions, including: Advertising Director, Publicity Director, Marketing Director, Editor-in-Chief, and Senior Director of Special Projects. He also serves or has served as A&R representative for METZ, Beach House, Mudhoney, the Constantines, Grand Archives, Kinski, Low, Obits, The Baptist Generals, and Retribution Gospel Choir. Chris is responsible for such little-known slogans as “Going Out of Business Since 1988,” and “Podfisting Our Way to Your Blog, or Whatever,” as well as the label’s much-ignored 1999 “LP3” initiative. Prior to working at Sub Pop, Chris handled marketing and publicity for the alternative comics publisher Fantagraphics Books.” SUB POP FESTIVAL – SÃO PAULO
