Gothenburg's Little Dragon has steadily grown from being the biggest underground secret to international acclaim after three successful albums and touring all over the world. Their energetic live set and unique recording process has made fans out of some of the biggest names in music including Pharrell Williams, Questlove, and OutKast. Gaining popularity among such tastemakers led to collaborations with artists like Big Boi, The Gorillaz, and SBTRKT. The release of Little Dragon's fourth album,Nabuma Rubberband, is the culminating moment in their career after years of building a grassroots fanbase.
Musically inspired by the more experimental pockets of Prince's back catalogue, club culture and the vintage Janet Jackson slow jams Yukimi used to listen to wandering around Gothenburg during the unrelenting winter, Nabuma Rubberband has a different feel to previous Little Dragon albums. "When you put some of Janet's really slow stuff on you feel like you're floating," Yukimi explains. "That feeling really influenced me and maybe that's why there are quite a lot of slow jams on the record. In the past we've been a bit self-conscious about making slow jams after 'Twice'. Then we wanted to make dance music which we did with Machine Dreams and then Ritual Union still had a dance vibe, but with this album it wasn't about that. The intention was about whatever we felt strongly about."
Yukimi Nagano, Erik Boden, Fred Wallin and Håkan Wirenstrand make up Little Dragon, the zeitgeist band that blend strands of R&B, electronic and indie into beautifully and meaningfully crafted songs. Over the course of three critically-lauded albums, Little Dragon have established themselves as a band keen to never rest on their laurels - constantly prodding and playing with the boundaries of their sound.Nabuma Rubberband promises to be their most dynamic album yet and is due on 5/13/14 via Loma Vista Recordings.    Little Dragon Nabuma Rubberband May 13th, 2014Loma Vista RecordingsPre-order: http://smarturl.it/LDNR_iTunes  1. The KVB Release Out of Body Mini-LP

THE KVB RELEASES OUT OF BODY MINI-LP ON JUNE 3, 2014 One of Alternative Press’s 100 Bands You Need to Know (2014)
“blend of motoric throb, lead bass hum, wraith-like vocal, then keyboard drifts and an aural mist of hiss over everything.” – MOJO (4/5)“This is a fresh, fierce and frightening record all of its own.” – NME“The KVB sound like Joy Division in your dreams. That’s a compliment, and a f*cking elephantine one of that.  Minus One  is like a recondite missing link between Unknown Pleasures and Closer, ticking off an entire wishlist of headily familiar JD signifiers, yet with more of everything somehow… an integrity and legitimacy of its very own.” –RECORD COLLECTOR (4 STARS)“The KVB walk an impressive line between tradition and individual talent” – TIME OUT LONDONTHE KVB return with the new  Out of Body  mini LP being released on A Recordings on June 3, 2014.  Listen and share “Across the Sea” at:https://soundcloud.com/cargorecords/the-kvb-across-the-sea#t=0:07
This new six songs are the culmination of a week-long recording session at Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe’s studio in Berlin last autumn. During which they recruited the help of Joe Dilworth (Stereolab) to contribute live drums to the recordings.  This was the first time the band has worked outside of their own studio at their home in South London.
Out Of Body is a further exploration of the band’s interest in phenomenology, bodily immersion and consciousness. Introspective lyrics are suspended in dream-like melodies, further expanding upon the duo's hypnotic aesthetic, which they explore both sonically and visually on the record.
The KVB is the audio/visual project of London youngsters, Nicholas Wood and Kat Day, who combine reverb heavy wall of sound guitars, minimal haunting strings and grinding bass synths, messed up motorik drum machine beats and delay drenched vocals with a backdrop of imagery to accompany the symphony, that’s nothing short of life affirming.Such full sensory assaults have seen The KVB’s live following swell and their gig schedule become busier all the time, with multiple European headline tours as well as a West Coast USA Tour in summer 2012 since the release of their debut album Always Then. The duo ended 2013 with the release of the highly praised  Minus One  (November, A Recordings) and two high profile tours: the UK with Loop and Australia with the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The KVB is a group with a sense of urgency about it, to do what they need to do, with full commitment and without delay.

INCLUSIVE THREE-PART NATIONWIDE TOUR CONFIRMED     Hummingbird in a Box , the latest work from legendary musician Peter Frampton, will be released June 24 viaRED Distribution. The new music was inspired by the Cincinnati Ballet, featuring seven original guitar pieces in Frampton's virtuosic stylings. Of the project Frampton notes, “Writing for dance was a wonderfully freeing experience. There were no boundaries. We were able to push the composing envelope,” and Kennedy furthers, “Songwriters and musicians create music to move people. This was beautiful, graceful, and instantly gratifying!” See full track listing on reverse. Following a massive year of touring, including 2013’s inaugural Frampton’s Guitar Circus,
Frampton is back on the road this summer. This time he will set out on a three-part catch-all tourincluding select solo dates, a co-headlining run with Grammy-winning American rock legends The Doobie Brothers and the return of Frampton’s Guitar Circus. The Three O'Clock in Berkeley

THREE O'CLOCK TAPE from early 1980s
I have a tape with the THREE O'CLOCK and Dream Syndicate. It says live in Berkeley. I was wondering from what year and is this a release? Michael does a lot of talking. It's a little Baroque Hoedown heavy. Michael mentions that the record hasn't been released yet. There is some mention of gigs by X and Bad Brains in October 1982.

Death interviews and performs on The Arsenio Hall Show tonight

DEATH ANNOUNCES INTERVIEW AND PERFORMANCE ON THE ARSENIO HALL SHOW TONIGHT

DEATH III STREAMING VIA NPR

DEATH III DUE APRIL 22ND VIA DRAG CITY

Death is proud to announce that they will appear on The Arsenio Hall Show for an interview and a performance on Monday, 4/21. Their third archival album, Death III, will be released the following day via Drag City and can be streamed via NPR First Listen. The record release show will be at The Satellite in Los Angeles, CA on 4/22. You can buy tickets to the record release show here.
STREAM: DEATH III - http://www.npr.org/2014/04/13/300585559/first-listen-death-death-iii
Five years after the second life of Death was started with the release of their revelatory 1976 album, For the Whole World to SeeDeath III slams the door on the vault with a powerful set of songs that bring equal amounts of rock and ethereal soul-searching, in high-fidelity, rich bottomed, studio-grade sound. Alongside songs from 1975, 1976 and 1980,Death III contains two songs from 1992, as the Hackney brothers reconvened nearly a decade after they'd stopped playing together. Death III serves as a companion piece of sorts to the A Band Called Death documentary, tracking the band's movement from spiritual young rockers to older and wiser, bruised-but-undefeated brothers, in pure musical terms.  David Hackney's visual representation of Death was a triangle, where "spiritual," "mental" and "physical" formed the three angles. With this in mind, For the Whole World to See is clearly the physical corner, with its undeniable proto-punk power; Spiritual-Mental-Physicalexplores the mental axis, with Death working through some of their influences, including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and even ELO, in their practice space. Death III is the spiritual end of the portrait, bookended by the dreamlike rock visions of David Hackney that created and propelled the band called Death.  Death III starts with David inside a deep 1975 guitar improvisation, rising up through atmospheres and prehistoric guitar murk to coalesce in jagged monster-riff-dom. The whole exercise recalls Funkadelic's great Eddie Hazel while reflecting the pure essence of David Hackney's guitar style. This jump-cuts perfectly five years into the future, with the funky staccato of "North Street," which finds the band's punkish approach at it's most aggressive. From there, the album moves back and forth from 1975 and '76 (including two songs recorded at Groovesville in Detroit with the other For the Whole World to See songs) to 1980, showing the band streamlining their frenetic core and maximizing the power. The lyrical focus of the songs "Open Road," "We Are Only People," and "Free" is more in the spirit/soul side of Death as heard on "Let the World Turn" and "Where Do We Go From Here???" - sensitive, searching, reflective. "We Are Only People" is an epic journey that begins with another Funkadelic-styled spoken-word moment, progressing through a spacious solo-guitar-with-harmonies section and into the inevitable rock conclusion. Dark hues are generated by the relentless and speedy "Restlessness" while remaining at a philosophical remove, and "Free" is a heavy duo piece with Bobby and David exploring the meaning of the word. But the album's climax is provided by a trio (once again, the triangle) of David songs, two of which hail from 1992. All three pieces together form a release of the soul of Death from it's dark origins, building optimism upon the harsh realities they'd experienced in their lives, more relaxed without losing the spark and bite of those former times. The unaccompanied guitar instrumental "First Snowfall in Detroit," is David Hackney at his most soulful, which gives way to "We're Gonna Make It," first featured as an emotional climax to the documentary and no less powerful here. With these songs, Death III pays final tribute to David Hackney's thoroughly original voice and vision, now stilled, but captured forever as a part of the remarkable story of Death.

NPR First Listen This Week - Brody Dalle's Diploid Love Out

      http://www.npr.org/2014/04/20/303393835/first-listen-brody-dalle-diploid-love
An interesting temporal phenomenon takes place while listening to Diploid Love, the first solo album from Distillers and Spinnerette frontwoman Brody Dalle. The album feels like a time capsule buried in the backyard of the punk and grunge-drenched early '90s and only unearthed today. But precisely because it's a product of 2014, not 1994, the record gets retroactively imbued with a sort of "older and wiser" gravitas - that is to say, anything that sounds so solidly like music from the past must have some evolutionary advantage to have found a habitat decades later.
Yet there is no evolutionary advantage at work, only evolution. This is Dalle's first solo album, and she was young enough in the early '90s that Nirvana and Hole, her closest sonic relatives, would have been influences, not contemporaries. What she's grasped with Diploid Love is the universal motivator of rock music, the same one Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, Corin Tucker, and Kathleen Hanna tapped into 20 years ago: to interrupt the musical modus operandi of the day, to deconstruct it entirely, to reveal its superficiality by creating unavoidably un-superficial responses to it. In the last decade of the last century, space opened up - starting in Washington, D.C. basements and Olympia dorm rooms and Aberdeen garages in Washington state - for a new kind of voice. Androgynous, powerful, emotive, not conventionally pretty vocals attained massive mainstream cultural capital. Drawing on this '90s-influenced vocabulary, but incorporating contemporary patois (listen for an undeniably millennial horn breakdown on "Underworld"), Brody Dalle is cashing in.
The earnestness created by Dalle's voice, inherent to Diploid Love, and to all good rock music, is what ultimately renders this record timeless. It's a throwback but doesn't cover old ground. Dalle's raw guitar work and distinctly Cobain-adjacent vocals are familiar but tell a unique story. The angst is honest ("Don't Mess With Me," which is a shoe-in for theme song to whatever the next generation's Freaks and Geeks will be), the joy is honest ("I Don't Need Your Love") and the confidence Dalle exercises in releasing an album rife with sweeping tonal shifts is also honest. Gender-bending screaming gives way to contralto singing so quickly it borders on shocking, as do electric guitars making room for tambourines, violins, piano and even a recording of a gleeful toddler. What all of it has in common, both on this album and with the grunge albums it references, is that every song sounds exactly like the truth.
