Like A Puppet Show is a vinyl-only release slated for fall’s Record Store Day on November 27, Black Friday. Like a Puppet Show marks the first of a series of collaborations between actor/director John Malkovich, top commercial director/photographer Sandro, and producer/composer Eric Alexandrakis. For this project, John Malkovich recited Plato’s Allegory of the Cave over an original piece of ambient music by Alexandrakis, while being paired with exclusive photos of Malkovich taken by Sandro. Once Malkovich’s part was completed the group began reaching out to a variety of artists to lend their creative flair to the release.
Two of the artists that the trio reached out to included Yoko Ono and her son Sean Lennon. The duo lent their musical expertise and vision to the track “Cryolife 7:14 A.M” which premiered today on Rolling Stone and is available to share via Soundcloud.
Other featured artists run the gamut from the Electro-Kraftwerkian sounds of OMD, to the orchestral Celtic breeze of The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan, skipping into the rock and roll humor of Dweezil Zappa, driving into the experimental electronics of Young The Giant, Efterklang, The Dandy Warhols and The Cars’ Ric Ocasek, through the epic gangsta rap of Blondie’s Chris Stein, the haunting beauty of Placebo, the classical piano of Harry Waters [son of Roger Waters], and resting with experimental ambience from Eric Alexandrakis.
The vinyl only release features photographs of Malkovich by Sandro, and will be out on their Cryogenia π label on Record Store Day, November 27. The trio will mark the occasion with a signing event at the legendary Music Millennium in Portland, Oregon beginning at 3:00PM and lasting until 5:00PM. Glen Hansard performs on "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" + U.S. tour kicks off tonight!
GLEN HANSARD PERFORMS “LOWLY DESERTER” ON “THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT”DIDN’T HE RAMBLE OUT NOW VIA ANTI-RECORDSNORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF TONIGHT
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Glen Hansard performed “Lowly Deserter” last Friday on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Watch here: http://bit.ly/1NZ5Iuq. The song is taken from Hansard’s latest album Didn’t He Ramble, out now via Anti- Records. Watch the official video for “Lowly Deserter” here: https://youtu.be/mPliDNX5Zmg. Didn’t He Ramble continues to receive critical acclaim: “The central ingredient remains Hansard’s worn but wonderfully flexible voice, which sounds as kind and expressive as ever, with warmth to match the songs he sings.”—NPR Music “Didn’t He Ramble proves Hansard’s songwriting is better than ever. And though it was perhaps a difficult process, the result is arguably some of his best work to date.”—The Daily Beast “Didn’t He Ramble evokes a feeling similar to one of Van Morrison’s Celtic-soul fever dreams, burnishing the prevailing sense of romantic fatalism with some low-key bravado on the standout track ‘Winning Streak’ (a kissing cousin to Bob Dylan’s early-Seventies’ chestnut ‘Forever Young’).”—Rolling Stone
“Didn’t He Ramble represents Hansard’s finest work since Once, with simple, often sparse production, clear-as-the-morning-sun vocals, and strong performances throughout…this is an ‘album’ in the purest sense: a document that demands multiple front-to-back listens in order to tease out its intricacies, dark and light.”—Popmatters Hansard will support the new album on tour throughout North American this fall. The tour kicks off tonight at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and include stops at the Chicago Theatre in Chicago, the new Kings Theatre in Brooklyn and the Beacon Theater in New York City. See details below. Didn’t He Ramble was produced by Thomas Bartlett (The National, Sufjan Stevens), a frequent collaborator of Hansard’s, and Grammy winner and former Frames band-mate David Odlum (Paloma Faith, Tinariwen). The album was recorded in New York, Dublin, Chicago and France and features guest appearances by John Sheahan (Dubliners), Sam Beam (Iron and Wine) and Sam Amidon. Hansard is the celebrated principal songwriter and vocalist/guitarist for the influential Irish group The Frames. Whether busking the streets of Dublin, where he got his start, or headlining a gig, Hansard has garnered a reputation as an unparalleled frontman. Hansard is also one half of the acclaimed duo The Swell Season. In 2007, he and Czech songstress Markéta Irglová took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly” off the Once soundtrack. In 2013, the Broadway adaptation, Once, The Musical, won eight Tony Awards including the top musical prize itself. His debut solo album Rhythm & Repose was released in 2012.

Grimes 'Art Angels' - releases today

Grimes self-directed video for "Flesh Without Blood"/ "Life in the Vivid Dream," released just last week already boasts over 2 million views. Watch here: Http://smarturl.it/FWBvideo
"Scream," also released last week, features Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes. FADER calls the song "an aggressive, industrial cacophony of crunching industrial beats, bloodthirsty panting and a stabbing guitar riff." Also featured on the album is an appearance by Wondaland Records impresario Janelle Monáe.
The album was recorded primarily in Grimes home studio in Los Angeles, CA, where she relocated to in 2014. Like all of her previous albums, 'Art Angels' was written and recorded entirely as a solo endeavor. The new album features more live instrumentation than ever before on a Grimes record. She plays piano, guitar and violin, continuing her evolution as a musician and a producer for her most ambitious album to date.
Grimes is in the midst of a month of North American dates on her 'Rhinestone Cowgirls' tour. Click hereto see a full list of dates. She plays Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest on Nov 7 and NYC's Terminal 5 on Nov 16. Björk calls for global action to prevent destruction of Iceland's Highlands
BJÖRK CALLS FOR GLOBAL ACTION TO PREVENTDESTRUCTION OF ICELAND'S HIGHLANDS

"We ask for the world to support us against our Government"
New York, NY (November 6, 2015) -- Björk and renowned writer and environmentalist Andri Snær Magnason hosted a press conference at Iceland Airwaves, Reykjavik, on behalf of Gætum Garðsins ("Protect the Park") highlighting the need for urgent action to protect Iceland's Highlands from environmental destruction.
Launched in March of last year, Gætum Garðsins is a coalition aiming to raise awareness for the conservation of Iceland's Highlands, which forms the largest area of untouched wilderness in Europe.
The Highlands are a big draw for nature lovers all over the world, with data from the Icelandic Tourist Board showing that around 80% of foreign visitors come to Iceland primarily to experience the country's wilderness, and about half come specifically for the central highlands. Tourism is now Iceland's largest revenue-generating sector.
The area, which currently only has limited protection, is currently under threat of extensive development, as outlined by the Icelandic government's Master Plan for conservation of nature and utilisation of energy. Specifically, the Government has plans to pave roads, erect power lines and build power plants right through the center of Iceland, which would drastically alter the landscape and slice the highlands in half.
As part of the conference, Björk has released this video message asking "the world to support us against our Government".

Speedy Ortiz Announces Tour Benefitting GRCF
SPEEDY ORTIZ ANNOUNCES ALL-AGES TOUR WITH PROCEEDS BENEFITTING THE GIRLS ROCK CAMP FOUNDATION
LAUNCHING IN DECEMBER
FOIL DEER OUT NOW VIA CARPARK RECORDS
Speedy Ortiz are announcing a new all-ages tour and the band has elected to donate 100% of the net proceeds to Girls Rock Camp Foundation (http://www.girlsrockcampfoundation.org/). GRCF is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing funding for Girls Rock Camps. The purpose of the camps is to develop life skills, creative expression and collaboration through music. Since its inception in 2014, GRCF have supported over 44 camps for girls of all economic backgrounds in both cities and rural areas.
To further incentivize donations, GRCF and artist Michael DeForge have teamed up w/ Speedy Ortiz to offer exclusive prizes for various donation levels (baseline ticket prices may vary slightly in certain venues):
$10 = ticket only, no donation
$15 = ticket +$5 GRCF donation (free custom Speedy Ortiz poster by Michael DeForge for that night's show!)
$20 = ticket +$10 GRCF donation (free custom Speedy Ortiz nail art stickers!)
$40 = ticket +$30 GRCF donation (free GRC print (ex: http://www.girlsrockcampfoundation.org/fully-funded) + all other prizes included!)
Speaking further about the tour, Speedy Ortiz' Sadie Dupuis said:
"We toured non-stop in 2015 and wanted to cap it off playing a series of all ages shows (which is always our favorite kind of show). We've also wanted to do a tour with a charity fundraising component for a long while. We've done a few fundraisers this year--for the Ferguson Library and the Baltimore Food Bank--but for this tour, we wanted to do something that had a national impact while still supporting local communities.
The Girls Rock Camp Foundation was the perfect choice. GRCF provides funding and support to the the various Girls Rock organizations around the world, which in turn provide affordable music education to kids. Girls Rock helps level the music business' playing field by coaching girls to form bands, develop skills in music engineering and technical production, and build their self esteem along the way. We love the work GRCF does, and are proud to support them on this tour--and can't wait to play with a Girls Rock Boston band at our hometown show! We're also so lucky that our friend Michael DeForge, one of the best comics writers and illustrators around, has designed a narrative poster series to help benefit GRCF as well." Matt Costa releases 'Neon Brain' EP today, 3rd in series

MATT COSTA RELEASES NEW NEON BRAIN EP TODAY
Third Release in Five-EP Series
November 6, 2015 – Today MATT COSTA releases his latest EP, NEON BRAIN . The six-track EP is the third in a series of five different EP’s that Costa is writing, recording, and self-releasing, each unique in style, approach, and concept.
“Neon Brain was inspired by the title track spontaneously written and recorded at Pheasant Studios in Santa Ana, CA,” says Costa. “It’s taken me until now to find the glow. Your Neon Brain has arrived.”
The EP is now available through digital retailers and fans can check out a stream of the EPon Costa’s website: http://mattcosta.com/stream-the-new-ep-neon-brain-now/
The five song Eucalyptus EP was released first in February and showcases intricate fingerpicking on the mostly acoustic tunes. The garage-rock bedroom recordings on the Cat Mosta EP came next in July, while the more sophisticated compositions on Neon Brain were the first to be recorded in a studio instead of Costa’s Laguna Beach, California home.
“It’s more of an obsession than a work ethic,” Costa says. “Every time I release something, the goal is to try to get closer to the core of what I am, so for that reason I’m really proud to put these EP’s out.”

Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow of music duo MS MR are absolutely entrancing in their just-released, hyper-tinged music video for “Criminals,” featured on their new album
How Does It Feel
. Watch the Charlotte Rutherford-directed video today:http://smarturl.it/CriminalsVideo.
MS MR on “Criminals” video: This video is a reflection on the internal conflict we’ve been facing over the past few months as our indie selves and their pop counterparts fight for creative control of MS MR. We find ourselves in an odd place as a band, having made the personal choice to explore where we might fit in the shiny and seductive pop realm (especially given our ambitious goals), while truthfully still being two art kids locked away in our DIY studio, thriving off our own musical naiveté and thirst to push artistic boundaries. Are we on the right path? Have we come too far? Do we want a way out? When it came to finding a director who could play on these contradictory feelings, we turned to the ultimate pop visionary, Charlotte Rutherford. She created a dark jewel-toned fantasyland that captures our unsettledness in all its forms: frustration and inspiration, confusion and excitement.
Just last week, MS MR wrapped their How Does It Feel headline tour in the U.S., and tonight they kick off the tour’s European leg in Brighton, England at The Arch. See below for a full list of tour dates.
***
Featuring 12 brand new ecstatic, high-octane songs, How Does It Feel finds MS MR returning to the visceral, bare-bones intimacy that launched the band just three years ago. Their 2013 debut Secondhand Rapture had been recorded for a few hundred dollars in spare rooms throughout Brooklyn. For How Does It Feel , Lizzy and Max returned to their old stomping grounds in late 2014, specifically the neighborhood of Bushwick, where they rented a small room to hammer out new material. For the first time, the duo teamed up with fellow musicians to co-write new songs—Tove Lo for the album’s “Pieces” and MNDR for “Tripolar.” MS MR’s drummer Zach Nicita also co-wrote and co-produced a handful of new tracks. How Does It Feel is available everywhere now, including iTunes and Spotify.
MS MR on tour:
11/6 – Brighton, UK – The Arch
11/7 – Manchester, UK – Club Academy
11/8 – Glasgow, UK – Art School
11/10 – London, UK – Electric Brixton
11/12 – Brussels, Belgium – Orangerie
11/13 – Paris, France – Le Trabendo
