ADULT. "Idle (Second Thoughts)" on XLR8R

ADULT.This month, Detroit-based synth duo ADULT. released The Way Things Fall, their exceptional fifth record on Ghostly International. They just released a video for "Idle (Second Thoughts)," directed by ADULT.'s own Nicola Kuperus and featuring costume designs by Detroit-based designer / performance artist Levon Millross. Up now on XLR8R, they write, "as a tune, 'Idle (Second Thoughts)' sounds much more sparse, mature, and darker than anything the already-sombre outfit had released before going on hiatus in 2007, and the accompanying clip takes the 'dark' theme in the most literal direction it can." Click Here To Watch "Idle (Second Thoughts)" on XLR8R

On the new record, FADER write, "what's surprising about the wonky synth lines and smiting, deadpan vocals on their excellent return to the studio, The Way Things Fall, is very fresh and how of-the-moment they sound, like something you might hear at a fog-machine-filled cold wave party today, only with an emphasis on clarity of form, instead of hazy subterfuge." XLR8R recently covered their history as artists with a vast, exploratory interview feature on their previous records, describing it as "a body of work that's unconventional in the way it consistently defies expectation."

The duo will play a series of dates this summer, beginning with a set at Detroit's Movement Festival this weekend, with all dates listed below.
Upcoming Tour Dates / 05.26.13 - Movement Electronic Music Festival - Detroit, MI05.31.13 - Assembly / Sacramento Electronic Music Festival - Sacramento, CA 06.02.13 - Echo - Los Angeles, CA *06.08.13 - 285 Kent - Brooklyn, NY #06.22.13 - Empty Bottle - Chicago, IL

# with Black Marble, ERAAS and YOU Press Quotes /"Grim, stripped-bare techno, razor-sharp synth-pop, and snarling electro-punk...It's terrifically conceived and even more terrifically crafted, the sort of record so perfect in its own aims that parsing out influences or agendas seems a fool's game. These tracks, this duo, this entity that is Adult.: they're a great and interesting thing, this nation's best inducers of head-banging, high-speed driving, amazed chuckles, and giddy bedroom shout." Pitchfork "Stripped of ratty bass panic attacks and atonal splatter, consonant arrangements and blanched analogue melodies manifest in wraithlike contortions." Electronic Musician "What's surprising about the wonky synth lines and smiting, deadpan vocals on their excellent return to the studio, The Way Things Fall, is very fresh and how of-the-moment they sound, like something you might hear at a fog-machine-filled cold wave party today, only with an emphasis on clarity of form, instead of hazy subterfuge." FADER"Electronic elements with a sharper punk edge...it’s a living, breathing concoction of analog instrumentation and electronic aesthetic, with a minimal diffidence that pushes and pulls." SHOUT OUT LOUDS @ Jay Leno

Tune in to...
SHOUT OUT LOUDS  on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on NBC
Tonight, Thursday, May 23

The band will be performing their song "Walking in Your Footsteps" from their recently released, critically-acclaimed album Optica on Merge Records.

Watch the music video for "Walking in Your Footsteps"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaLfFSwAIq0
********** "Particularly in its first half, Optica plays like a marvelous '80s mixtape, albeit one with modern production values and a good deal of subtlety. The references aren't all pop, either - the album-opening "Sugar" sounds like 's Robert Smith stepping in to lead The Smiths - but the results, in all their sweet and sunny glory, invariably chime and shine."
- NPR Music "Optica is a testament to the songwriting acumen of frontman Adam Olenius and the band's ability to translate the core sound of their favorite Cure and Smiths songs into something grand and modern." - The Onion AV Club    "Bigger, richer, and more fun than its predecessor, Optica drips with hyperactive lyrics, icy synths, and string arrangements..." - Under The Radar

Beach Day "Stay"

SPIN Premieres Beach Day song
Debut Album Trip Trap Attack Out June 18 On Kanine Records
Summer Tour Dates Announced
Listen: "Stay" via SPIN or SoundCloud
SPIN has premiered "Stay" from Beach Day's debut album, Trip Trap Attack due June 18th on Kanine Records. SPIN said, "Beach Day follow in the hazy power-pop tradition of fellow oceanside revisionists like Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls. "Stay," the latest track to wash up from the Florida trio's upcoming debut, Trip Trap Attack, marries tight, ragged riffs with swoon-worthy vocals that would make Joey Ramone weak in the knees." "Stay" is available for limited time as a download via SoundCloud. Trip Trap Attack was recorded in South Florida and mixed in Detroit by Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Dirtbombs). Beach Day will be this summer in support of the forthcoming album. The tour includes a stop at Toronto's NXNE Music Festival as well as shows in major cities including Chicago, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Atlanta and more.
Beach Day hails from Hollywood, Florida. Their sound is heavily influenced by their surroundings. They make new music, but it is definitely old at heart. And it's definitely sunny, but not without some murkiness.
Kimmy, Natalie and Skyler met at a local show and quickly bonded over their love of 60's Girl Groups, their dissatisfaction with their current musical endeavors and a common desire to be in a band that was purely about fun and making music without pretense.
Skyler was living in Asheville but missing the beach culture, so he moved back. Natalie was planning a move to the west coast but already had song ideas, so she decided to stay. The two moved into a house with Kimmy and all acquired jobs at the local Smoothie Shack. Moving in is somewhat of a big commitment for a band that just wants to have fun, but the first song they wrote together came easy. It is called Beach Day and was their first 7" release. "Beach Day" was praised by Filter, Elle, Nylon , Foam Magazine and many more.
An embodiment of their surroundings and love of 60's girl groups, Beach Day sounds as you might expect. Think of a female fronted Beach Boys, throw in some The Shangri-La's, The Ventures, The Sonics, Phil Spector, The Ronettes, add in contemporaries Cults, Jacuzzi Boys, Dum Dum Girls and The Black Lips and you have a soundtrack for your perfect Beach Day.
