photo credit: Zoran OrlicLow will resume their headlining US tour in support of Ones and Sixes, the group’s acclaimed new album. The trek continues tonight, Wednesday, November 11th at Minneapolis’ First Avenue, through to Saturday, November 21st at Seattle’s Crocodile. Then in 2016, the group have scheduled a series of dates that begin January 15th in Anchorage, AK at Taproot and end February 13th in St. Louis at the Pageant. There are also two international festival dates to mention at this time: March 12th in Mexico City, MX at Festival NRML and June 11th in Kværndrup, DK at Heartland Festival. For up to date information on tickets please visithttp://chairkickers.com/shows.
Low recently premiered an official video for “Lies,” from Ones and Sixes, which was directed by Manuel Aragon (watch here). The band also made its second appearance on Later with Jools Holland, performing Ones and Sixes highlights “What Part of Me” and “The Innocents.”
Ones and Sixes earned Low the group’s first-ever U.K. Top 40 album, coming in at #35 on the official albums chart. The album also entered at #68 here in the U.S. on SoundScan’s Top Current Albums charts.
Ones and Sixes peaked at #7 on the CMJ Top 200 chart. The album is seeing strong support from NonComm reporters, with confirmed sessions at KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” (November 16th), WXPN’s “World Cafe” (“What Part of Me” & “No Comprende”), KCMP (view here), and more.
Ones and Sixes is also one of the best-reviewed albums of Low’s career with international acclaim from the likes of NPR Music, Paste, Rolling Stone, SPIN, Boston Globe, Pitchfork, Under the Radar, The Guardian, The Observer, DIY, Q, MOJO, Uncut, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Chicago Tribune, CLASH, The Sunday Times, Dusted, NOW, and more. And the band are the current cover stars of MAGNET’s September issue, interviewed by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon (view cover / read an excerpt of the story here).
Low’s Ones and Sixes is available for purchase from the Sub Pop Mega Mart, iTunes, Amazon, and Bandcamp. Now completely sold-out through megamart.subpop.com, the limited “Loser Edition” of the double-LP on yellow vinyl and packaged in a variant slipcase cover is available from select independent stores and from the band themselves at upcoming tour dates, while supplies last. There are also two new T-shirt designs available atmegamart.subpop.com, both as individual items and as part of CD and LP bundles.
Ones and Sixes, featuring the standouts “No Comprende,” “What Part of Me,” “Lies,” “Gentle,” and “No End,” was co-produced by the band and engineer BJ Burton at Justin Vernon’s April Base Studios in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
What people are saying about Low’s Ones and Sixes:
"It's one thing for Low to have made a rewarding career of spare, dramatic, glacially paced music...It's another to make those ingredients sound so incredibly dynamic; to spend 20-plus years making a dozen albums that each feel distinct, and that each introduce new ideas, twists and ways to wring drama out of the space between notes…Throughout Ones and Sixes, the Minnesota trio somehow gives weight to airiness as comfort and discord orbit each other like a binary star. But every time the portent threatens to become overbearing — just as the mix of prettiness and heaviness tips a little too far out of alignment — Low punctures it with a burst of cleansing aggression or some pristine, exquisite surprise. Anything to keep us off balance.” [“First Listen”] - NPR Music
“The band's strengths are here in abundance, but they are reimagined, twisted into new shapes and given a visceral intensity that is utterly irresistible.” [9/10] - CLASH
“...Striking a balance between their majestic, slow-moving melancholy and harsher experimental noise.” [4/5] - The Guardian
"One of the most impressive albums of their career" [4/5] - MOJO
“‘What Part of Me,’ with its upbeat percussion, fuzzy guitar textures and sweet harmonized lyrics about relationship boundaries (‘What part of me don't you own?’), feels like a sideways response to the post-1989 maximalism of today's Top 40; "Into You" is a gospel-inflected, subtly sexy slow jam; and "The Innocents" sets accusatory vocals over a crunching electro-industrial beat, all to excellent effect. Elsewhere, on the gentle, pained duet "Lies," Low remind us they're still masters of doing a lot with a little.” - Rolling Stone
"Ones and Sixes is all at once beautiful, ugly, tense, warm, inviting and repellent. It’s an emotional and sonic juggling act where even the slightest bum-note would draw attention to itself. As always with Low, the beauty is all about the details" - Pitchfork
‘Ones and Sixes is an ear-pricking listen.’ [Album of the Week] - The Observer
"Beautiful desolation....coolly exhilarating" [4/5] - Q
“Ones and Sixes finds them producing some of their best work in years" - The Quietus
“It’s another subtly heart-rending effort from a band that remains one of the very finest in the
world. If you needed a reminder of why Low are an institution then this is it.” [8/10] - Drowned in Sound
"Somehow, with each new release (and they come regularly, every two or three years), Low manage to find new ways of protracting their deceptively beautiful melodies." [4.5/5] - Music OMH
“Ones and Sixes hinges on tension that courses throughout these 12 songs. The drums land with a thud, as if transferred from modern R&B and hip-hop. They anchor songs that crackle with bits of distortion and chiming guitars that somehow feel disembodied from everything surrounding them. Then, in keeping with a signature Low move, there is the spectral spark created by Parker and Sparhawk singing together; their alchemy is otherworldly and downright intoxicating.” - Boston Globe
“With Ones and Sixes they’ve pulled together many of their disparate sides in a masterful survey of what makes them one of the great rock bands of their era.” - Dusted
“Ones and Sixes sees Low churning out some of their most accessible work, with “What Part of Me” having the potential to be an unlikely hit. As ever, strong stuff in every way.” [4/5] - Record Collector
“Low’s always been good at making records where it sounds like every note and beat contains some degree of pain and hope you’ve felt. So hopefully it’s compelling when this one stands out even more as one of their best.” [8.1 /10] - PASTE
“Low remain as vital as ever" - DIY
"After two decades, a band that could easily feel part of the wallpaper remain hungry to show that you never know what lies beneath" [8/10] - Uncut
"Comfortably ahead of the pop pack" - The Sunday Times
“Masters of transforming emptiness into swelling, sweeping orchestrations of musical and mental noise, Low are truly intense and joyful on their newest exhibition of off-kilter, subterranean pop.” [4/5] - NOW

Texan shoegaze pioneers Ringo Deathstarr return with their fifth studio album, ‘Pure Mood’ out via Club AC30 on November 20th.
Ringo Deathstarr was formed by Elliot Frazer in his hometown of Beaumont, but he soon relocated to the more musically active town of Austin. After a string of successful releases they settled on a solid line-up with Daniel Coborn and G.G. Alex before playing their knockout show at Reverence Festival in 2010 that secured them a place with Club AC30, the innovative label responsible for the recent successful releases by Pinkshinyultrablast, Taffy, Fever Dreamand Flyying Colours amongst others.
"We have never spent as much time on any album before, but it was only a few hours a day maybe 3 times a week...sometimes less. Waiting for the album to be released is the hardest part because we are ready to get out there and show it to the world!" The band eagerly anticipate the release of their next album; rightly so - pensive and pounding, ‘Pure Mood’ oozes all things dank, dark and dreamy. The 12 track LP, to be released in November, presents a vivid and searing collection of songs that re-imagine the shoegaze genre, allowing Ringo Deathstarr to soar beyond their contemporaries.
The aptly named opening track 'Dream Again' is sung by bassist Alex Gehring, whose delicate voice echoes eerily over the spectral, otherworldly chords that pluck underneath. 'Heavy Metal Suicide' & ‘Stare At The Sun’ contain the same cathartic droning that has been previously celebrated by genre forefathers, My Bloody Valentive and Slowdive. Tracks like 'Never' and 'Boys In Heat' plunge the band and listener alike deep into the uncharted sonic depths of unadulterated, decadent sound. Elliott Frazer's vocals accentuate the eruption of noise behind his anthemic lyrics, dipping in and out of brief moments of clarity before bursting back into the manic grit of songs like 'Big Bopper' and 'Frisbee'. There's a daring clash of fury and fragility throughout 'Pure Mood' that demonstrates Ringo Deathstarr are not just reliving a scene, they're re-inventing it with their shattering use of chaotic guitars and haunting voices.
'Pure Mood' is a complex thrill-ride that's seeped in fervent shoegaze and lingering lyricism, proving Ringo Deathstarrare the torch-bearers of the movement and continue to contort and mutate into something beautiful. The 12 track LP will be released on November 20th via Club AC30.

Hurts announce 'Wings' video and single

"Some of the most euphoric pop songs Hutchcraft and Anderson have ever written" – NME – 4* "A bold new direction. Long may it last." – DIY – 4* "A grandeur that you simply do not get with pop bands any more" – Shortlist "Undeniably satisfying" – Attitude – 8/10
Hurts announce their stunning new single 'Wings', the latest track to be taken from recent album 'Surrender', impacting on December 11th through Columbia Records.
Hurts worked with long-term collaborator Jonas Quant to produce 'Wings', to create an epic song set to fill arenas across the globe. Theo's vocals soar above the stomping beat of 'Wings' making it one of their biggest and boldest ballads to date.
The video for 'Wings' was directed by renowned music video director, Dawn Shadforth, known for her work with the likes of Bjork, Primal Scream, Florence & the Machine and Goldfrapp.
Hurts previously collaborated with Shadforth on their music videos for 'Wonderful Life' and recent single 'Lights' – two striking pieces of work – and 'Wings' is another magnificent string to their bow. Hurts' third studio album, 'Surrender' was released last month via Columbia Records. The band continued to work alongside Swedish producer Jonas Quant on the new record, whilst also joining forces with Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Haim) as well as esteemed Grammy Award winning producer Stuart Price (Madonna, The Killers) to sculpt the sound of their much anticipated follow up to 'Exile'.

Ane Brun's "When I'm Free" out February 5 on Balloon Ranger Records, Video for "Directions"
ANE BRUN’S NEW ALBUM “WHEN I’M FREE” OUT FEBRUARY 5 ON BALLOON RANGER RECORDS
“Norwegian-born pop singer-songwriter Ane Brun makes music that fits well into the cinematic world. Her songs are brimming with life and energy while still touching
on feelings of loss and self-doubt.” —NPR
Sweden-based Norwegian artist Ane Brun will release her sixth studio album,
When I'm Free via her own label Balloon Ranger Records on February 5. Brun released the video for the first single “Directions” earlier this year with NPR Music, watch HERE and via YouTube HERE . The new album has received many accolades abroad and topped the charts in Scandanavia and Benlux.
She employed musicians that she spent much of 2013 touring across the world with including bassist
Dan Berglund (previously part of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio), pianist Martin Hederos (Soundtrack Of Our Lives), drummer Andreas Werliin (Wildbirds & Peacedrums) and guitarist Johan Lindström (Tonbruket). Also guesting on the album are Lars Skoglund (Lykke Li) and Ola Hultgren on drums; Tobias Gabrielsson (electric bass); Linnea Olsson, Nina K and Sabina Ddumba (additional vocals) and John Eriksson (of Peter, Bjorn & John), who rounds out the mix on timpani for “Directions” and provides percussion and mallets for “Black Notebook.
When I’m Free was inspired by the forced cancellation in late 2012 of a North American tour with Peter Gabriel that Brun was to take part in. As she has occasionally struggled with health concerns, Brun found that in the past she has let them weigh her down, whereas
this time she had an epiphany. She recalls, “One night, I woke upwoke up and thought, ‘Why are you so afraid? It doesn’t help you in any way. Let your mind and body rest so it can heal.’ When I recovered, I experienced an almost bliss-like feeling. I’d replaced all the worrying and fear with gratitude, and the feeling lingered. So somehow, since 2012, I’ve been able to approach life very differently than before.”
Brun has recorded and released ten albums over the last ten years on her own imprint Balloon Ranger Recordings. In 2005, her second album A Temporary Dive earned her critical acclaim at home and abroad, winning the Norwegian Grammy for Best Female Artist. Her fifth album, Changing Of The Seasons, was recorded in Iceland by Valgier Sigursson. The New York Times said the album “offers the kind of comfort that only well-versed singer-songwriters can give. An album full of sad songs to revel in as the days grow shorter and colder,Seasons is Brun’s strongest work yet.” Brun released It all Starts With One in 2011 and Rolling Stone called the lead track “Do You Remember” a “knockout single.” It was followed by the collections Songs 2003-2013, which celebrated Brun’s most beloved tracks and songwriting achievements and Rarities (2013), which navigated the lesser-known corners of her catalog.

ARTIST KAREN FINLEY Solo Show at Coagula Curtorial

Broad Performance. Exhibit opening coincides with sold-outKaren Finley's performances at the Broad Museuminaugurating the museum's performance space. (November 10, 2015) LOS ANGELES, CA - Coagula Curatorial is pleased to announce Love Field, a solo show of new work by world-renowned artist Karen Finley. The artist has been studying the traumatic images surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Here she presents re-workings of common and uncommon images associated with the tumultuous events and personalities surrounding November 22, 1963. Love Field refers to the Dallas Airport that Jackie and Jack Kennedy landed at on November 22, 1963. Here are some of the series she presents in the exhibit: PRESENCE OF ABSENCERepresenting the visualization of selective memory - a way of remembering and forgetting - Finley created Presence of Absence, a series of ink studies that abstract and fragment gestures, body parts and clothing that seem to disappear and haunt. THE JACKIE LOOK SERIESIn reference to the infamous Warhol series of portraits of Jackie Kennedy, Finley'sThe Jackie Look Series repeats the worshipped face yet doesn't try to hold time, nor looks for perfection, but rather allows for transformation of the interior from cartoonish to mysterious to the grotesque. LOVE FIELD SERIESIn the Love Field Series, Finley highlights the significance of red roses given to Jackie after Air Force One had landed there. This was a break from the Texas tradition for visiting dignitaries to receive the yellow Texas Rose. GRASSY KNOLLIn Grassy Knoll, the artist pays homage to stills from the Zapruder film as a way of seeing certain meaning and conspiracy in frames that hold the utmost of tragic consequence but remain within a context of the tradition of landscape painting. CAMERA MISFIREIn Camera Misfire, Finley uses archived camera misfires from negative sheets of photographs as the source to draw from and represent the camera as weapon. The term "camera misfire" is when out-of-frame preservation of inessential areas are kept and archived to preserve all relative association for an uncertain future. The artist will also premiere a series of videos abstracted from memorabilia and images associated with the tragedy. INAUGURAL BROAD MUSEUM PERFORMANCESThe exhibition opening coincides with the Los Angeles debut of Finley's performance entitled The Jackie Look . She will be the first performer at the new Broad Museum on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21. She will perform The Jackie Looktailored to the Los Angeles audience. The performances are sold out. Finley will appear as Jackie Kennedy Onassis looking back at her images in photographs. Using the structure of a lecture set in the present day, Jackie contemplates her life in pictures and society's projection onto her as a monument of grief and mourning. The performance is site specific, meaning Finley will situate Jackie to address the city or institution that she is invited to. But the performance speaks and includes her return to Dallas and the following memories. Finley will use the performance opportunity to consider the trauma of our nation's historical imagery and to be conscious of the healing power of the transformation of our painful memory landscape into new images of promise and imagination. Included in the text is Jackie considering the public viewing of Michele Obama as First Lady. Using the presentation as a prepared talk by Jackie Kennedy reflecting on traumatic documentation, we see Finley depict the first lady witnessing the collective iconic imagery and coming to terms with world projection amidst her personal pain. For the performance Jackie is a stand in as an archetype for all of us. For these Los Angeles performances there will be a heightened moment with remembering the Ambassador hotel. Accompanying the performance text will be montages of images abstracted and iconic and Jackie will be sure to visit souvenir shops and ebay for JFK memorabilia.

ANNOUNCES US TOUR WITH YMUSIC

Photo Credit: Chad KamenshineJosé González has announced details of his March 2016 US tour, performing with acclaimed NYC-based chamber sextet yMusic.
“After a year of touring with a band focused on percussion and vocals I look forward to playing many of the same songs in a different style,” says José, “I’m very excited to go on tour with yMusic! I love their setup and taste in arrangements, being six super talented musicians playing strings, flute, clarinet and trumpet, it feels like it opens us up from sounding energetic and avant-garde to classic and delicate.” The sextet has previously collaborated with José composing a 10-song set of arrangements by yMusic violinist and arranger Rob Moose. The songs were performed for a standing-room only crowd at Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors festival in Damrosch Park in Summer 2014, which included a stunning variation of “Open Book” from album Vestiges & Claws. Watch José perform “Open Book” with yMusic at Lincoln Center here .
yMusic works in close quarters with contemporary composers and songwriters, developing ideas into vivid, communicative performances. Virtuosos, the six classically-trained players are equally comfortable in the classical and pop worlds, collaborating with artists from Nico Muhly to Dirty Projectors. Rob Moose of yMusic says, “yMusic is thrilled to be joining José once again and to bring our musicianship and unique color to José’s gorgeous, moody songwriting.”
The US tour begins in Seattle on March 6th with performances through the month including stops at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and Beacon Theatre in New York. José says, “having played classical guitar for some years in my youth I can really appreciate performing in venues that invite listening to details, in a way that is seldom possible in clubs or festivals.” See below for a full list of tour dates.
