The official music video for Sturgill Simpson’s new single “Brace For Impact (Live A Little)” is premiering today and can now be viewed at SturgillSimpson.com.
Matt Mahurin, who has enjoyed over 35 years of acclaim as an illustrator, photographer, film director and teacher, directed the video. His previous work includes collaborations with Peter Gabriel, U2, REM, Tracy Chapman, Sting, Bonnie Raitt, Ice-T, Metallica, David Byrne, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits.
“Brace For Impact (Live A Little)” is from Simpson’s highly anticipated new album,  A Sailor’s Guide To Earth , which will be released April 15 on Atlantic Records and is now available for pre-order.
Already receiving widespread acclaim, NPR Music calls it, “thrilling new music,” while Rolling Stone asserts, “shows off the full range of Simpson's tastes, mixing his countrified bark with Motown horns, Sly Stone-worthy funk, Walt Disney strings and Seventies classic rock” and USA Today praises, “Simpson’s voice has a tone that makes you feel warm, safe in the hands of good country, and with that stomping beat and slide guitar backing him, it’s hard to fight it…Simpson is still making country music that feels relevant, and real.”
[image error]Produced by Simpson, A Sailor’s Guide To Earth was written—beginning to end—as a letter to his first child who arrived during the summer of 2014 and features eight original songs as well as a rendition of Nirvana’s “In Bloom.”
Recorded primarily at Nashville’s The Butcher Shoppe, Simpson was joined in the studio by Grammy Award-winning engineer David Ferguson (Johnny Cash, John Prine, “Cowboy” Jack Clement) and assistant engineerSean Sullivan. Along with members of his touring band, the album features Dave Roe on bass, Dan Dugmore on steel guitar, Dougie Wilkinson on bagpipes, Garo Yellin and Arthur Cook on cello, Jonathan Dinklage and Whitney LaGrange on violin and special guests The Dap-Kings.
In celebration of the release, Simpson and his band will kick off their 2016 tour this spring, including shows in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, Lexington, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Indianapolis, Louisville, Royal Oak, MI, Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. Tickets go on-sale tomorrow (Friday, March 11). Additional dates to be announced.
A Sailor’s Guide To Earth is Simpson’s third full-length album and follows his break-through, Grammy-nominated 2014 release, Metamodern Sounds In Country Music. Beloved by critics and fans, the record was featured on year-end “best of” lists at The New York TimesRolling Stone, the Village Voices’ Pazz and Jop, Rolling Stone Country, NPR Music, American Songwriter, Stereogum, the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, Pitchfork, The Washington Post and many others.

Violent Femmes reveal video for 'Memory'

VIOLENT FEMMES reveal video for 'Memory'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPRRav0phyY+ new album WE CAN DO ANYTHING - March 04 2016 through [PIAS]----Violent Femmes premiered the video for the first single, “Memory,” from their new album today. The clip was created and animated by Harley Hefford, an Australian video director and fan of Violent Femmes who created last year’s “Good For/At Nothing” music video for the band off their Record Store Day EP.  Hefford used a collage-style animation to create a fictional narrative where a giraffe (inspired by the album’s artwork) reminisces with founding band members Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie who share made-up memories from their past.WATCH “MEMORY” HEREViolent Femmes’ new album WE CAN DO ANYTHING was released on March 4 ([PIAS]). The band recently confirmed the first North American dates of their upcoming world tour. The trek gets underway May 2nd at Salt Lake City, UT's The Depot and then travels through the month (complete dates below). Additional dates will be unveiled soon - for updates and complete ticket information, please visitwww.vfemmes.com/tour.WE CAN DO ANYTHING is available now at all leading online music retailers as follows DIGITALCDVINYLIn addition, a number of special bundles are on sale at the official Violent Femmes store, with extras including an exclusive screen print poster, limited edition gold vinyl, t-shirts, and much more.To kick off the release of WE CAN DO ANYTHING, Violent Femmes made their first network TV live appearance in 16 years, performing "Memory on CBS' Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They also performed their legendary song, “Blister in the Sun,” with Colbert on vocals. The video was seen everywhere and even became the #1 trending topic on Facebook the day it was released."Memory" is shaping up as another Violent Femmes favorite, charting on the back of widespread airplay on college radio and multi-format alternative outlets nationwide. "Memory" premiered last month exclusively via  NPR Music , noting the track "feels like a classic...'Memory' has the playful quirkiness, infectious beats and jittery observations of the band's earliest work, from the 1980s. But teen angst is replaced with middle-aged irritation."Violent Femmes is currently on an epic tour across Australia and New Zealand, highlighted by a co-headline trek alongside Hoodoo Gurus, Sunnyboys, and Died Pretty as well as top billed sets at such festivals as Adelaide, AU's WOMADedlaide (March 11th) and Meredith, AU's Golden Plains (March 13th). German Duo Beisspony Release Retro-Futuristic Video for "Masochistic Time Machine"

German Riot Grrl Duo Beisspony

Premiere “Masochistic Time Machine”

Video on After Ellen

+ SXSW Bound

“German queer feminist duo Beisspony’s new video for “Masochistic Time Machine” is fun, kitschy, and futuristic, offering the perfect visual accompaniment” – After Ellen

“Unabashedly charismatic” – Vice Magazine

“It has been ages that any newcomer from Germany has caught our attention in such a dramatic, emotional and unobtrusively infectious way” – Piranha Magazine

Watch “Masochistic Time Machine”

Arty German duo Beisspony have premiered their retro-futuristic video for “Masochistic Time Machine” in advance of their upcoming album  Beasts and Loners and  their maiden voyage to the US for this year’s SXSW. The black and white video, featuring art by Klaus Erich Dietl, is a kitschy look into a dystopic emotional world.

Laura Theis, the lyrical half of Beisspony, describes the track as a “tongue-in-cheek song about the emotional pitfalls of time travel. Told from the point of view of a hapless masochistic time traveller, it also features a sound collage including the time machine’s sardonic German robot voice.” Stephanie Müller and director Klaus Erich Dietl continue, “the name of the sardonic time machine – Mona Lisa Overdrive – refers to the third part of William Gibson’s Neuromancer trilogy. The drawings invite us on a bad trip into the midst of a dystopic setting. It is a bit like travelling onboard a shipwrecked ‘Raumpatrouille Orion’ space shuttle straight into the heart of Klaus Erich Dietl’s hand drawn version of Godard’s ‘Alphaville’.”

Rooted in riot grrl and anti-folk, Beisspony will be bringing along their sewing machines, keys, and drums for a few artistic performances in Austin, ready to show off their craft. The duo will be releasing the  Beasts and Loners  full length album this fall on German art collective Chicks on Speed Records.

Watch “Masochistic Time Machine”

Don’t Miss Beisspony at SXSW!
March 16 - Cherrywood Coffeehouse - 1pm
March 16 – Voodoo Doughnuts – 10pm

Watch onDeadWaves "Blue Inside" Video, Debut Album Forthcoming

“BLUE INSIDE”

WATCH THE NEW VIDEO

DEBUT ALBUM SET FOR RELEASE IN SPRING

Twanging guitars, breathy vocals and haunting Edgar Allan Poe-style imagery –
it's like driving a getaway car through the night… - Q magazine
Watch the new video for “Blue Inside,” the brand new track from Mute’s latest signing, onDeadWavesHERE:https://youtu.be/WQROMzqtgbY

onDeadWaves, who release their debut album this spring on Mute, explain “’Blue Inside’ is essentially about a loss - it’s that moment when you finally come out of the numbness and realize you can actually feel something. The song has a positive message though. It is about moving on, and continuing on the journey.”

Blue Inside’s video was directed by Lukasz Pytlik, who also directed the band’s video for “Blackbird.” Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ZS6fiOVGk80

onDeadWaves launched their debut track, “Blackbird,” at the end of 2015. Q said "… a world of smeared mascara and trailer-park heartache, there's something wonderfully cinematic about this debut single.” While The Guardian wrote “’Blackbird,’ their debut single, somehow nods to both shoegaze and country, with a David Lynchian creepiness to both music and lyrics.”

Heavy of atmosphere, rich in melody, rippled with an air of malice and flowing female and male vocals, onDeadWaves’ debut album will be released on Mute in spring 2016.

You haven't heard them like this before, but you may already know the band. One is James Chapman, better known as Maps, whose critically acclaimed debut We Can Create was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, and whose latest album Vicissitude, came out on Mute. The other is Polly Scattergood, the electrically charged artist who has released two solo albums on Mute.

The seeds of Chapman and Scattergood’s creative partnership were sown in 2011, at Mute’s Short Circuit festival, a special event at London's Roundhouse. The night saw different collaborations with Mute artists and Polly and James paired up to perform each other’s songs.

Though each had primarily worked alone before, there was something natural about the chemistry between them. "The gig was one of the most enjoyable I've done," says Polly. "And as soon as we finished, we said it'd be cool to do something else."

onDeadWaves have been sharing mixes of tracks, charting a few of their favorite things right now. Follow their mixtapes here: https://soundcloud.com/ondeadwaves
