ARKELLS CO-HEADLINING TOUR WITH DREAMERS STARTS THIS WEEK IN LA
PERFORMANCES AT SXSW NEXT WEEK ARKELLS SHARE JACK NOVAK & STRAVY REMIX OF "LEATHER JACKET"
Arkells will kick off their co-headlining tour with Dreamers this week on Thursday, March 10 at The Roxy in Los Angeles. Arkells will then travel down to Austin for a series of shows at SXSW including iHeart Radio's Birthday Bash, McDonald's showcase and the Southwest Invasion. From there, the two bands will continue on to major markets like Washington DC, New York, Chicago and Seattle before traveling back to California for their final show on April 9 at Social Hall in San Francisco. Arkells will also be playing Firefly Music Festival this June and WayHome festival this July. The full list of upcoming tour dates, which includes the list of SXSW showcases, is below. Last week Arkells shared a brand new remix of their #1 ALT single "Leather Jacket" by Jack Novak and Stravy. The remix takes the already catchy tune and kicks it up with a heart-thumping bass-heavy beat, atmospheric fills, and synth swells. This is the second collaboration between Jack Novak and Stravy, the first being the official remix of X Ambassadors single "Unsteady."

Violent Femmes share new video
VIOLENT FEMMES PREMIERES VIDEOFOR FIRST SINGLE "MEMORY" VIA RECORD STORE DAY TOUR BEGINS IN MAY
(New York, NY) - Violent Femmes premiered the video for the first single, "Memory," from their new album today via Record Store Day. The clip was created and animated by Harley Hefford, an Australian video director and fan of Violent Femmes who created last year's "Good For/At Nothing" music video for the band off their Record Store Day EP. Hefford used a collage-style animation to create a fictional narrative where a giraffe (inspired by the album's artwork) reminisces with founding band members Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie who share made-up memories from their past.

"Memory" premiered last month exclusively via NPR Music , noting the track "feels like a classic...'Memory' has the playful quirkiness, infectious beats and jittery observations of the band's earliest work, from the 1980s. But teen angst is replaced with middle-aged irritation." Violent Femmes is currently on an epic tour across Australia and New Zealand, highlighted by a co-headline trek alongside Hoodoo Gurus, Sunnyboys, and Died Pretty as well as top billed sets at such festivals as Adelaide, AU's WOMADedlaide (March 11th) and Meredith, AU's Golden Plains (March 13th). “It seems to want to be indistinct, to lie beyond trackable sentiment or emotion or even clear historical markers. But it can’t be: It’s part of a much greater, nearly 50-year long story of rock bands wiggling away from rock.” — The New York Times
“...the Tortoise mix of pelvic trance grooves and jazzy changes remains distinctive.” —Rolling Stone
“...so many disparate elements and influences might sound like a crazy mess, but The Catastrophist has the same kind of measured, sanguine quality that has been the hallmark of almost every Tortoise album. None of this should make sense, but for some reason all of it does.” — Stereogum
“Chicago’s Tortoise is a genre unto itself: cited as a progenitor of post-rock, and clearly indebted to its home town’s history of improvisers and fusionists, Tortoise is an American underground institution.” — Boston Globe
“The Catastrophist bristles with left turns and trap doors.” — Chicago TribuneFollowing an extensive European tour and two sold out release shows in the band’s hometown of Chicago, revered instrumental group Tortoise are set to embark on their first major North American tour in support of their new album, The Catastrophist , out now. In anticipation of the tour kick-off, Tortoise are sharing a special live video of the band performing “Shake Hands With Danger,” a hypnotic, bass-and-beat album highlight, filmed at the band’s in-the-round album release shows at Thalia Hall in Chicago this past January. Weaves shares "One More" via NPR + announces debut LP + tour dates
WEAVES SHARES "ONE MORE" VIA NPR
ANNOUNCES DEBUT LP ON
KANINE (US) / BUZZ RECORDS (CAN) / MEMPHIS INDUSTRIES (ROW)
PLAYING SXSW & TOURING WITH SUNFLOWER BEAN
Photo credit: Brendan George Ko"The construction is cerebral, but the songs come across as uproarious." - NY Times "Quirky, loud and mysterious, four amazing and downright fascinating players" - NPR "A Toronto-based foursome who bend pop tropes as if they're made of Silly Putty, Weaves' idiosyncratic songs play with genre and form while vocalist Jasmyn Burke's precisely calibrated alto (which takes cues from Siouxsie as much as Aaliyah) leads the way." - Rolling Stone
"'Tick' is a linear, locomotive rocker that mines post-Pixies indie gold sounds, but is destablized by Morgan Waters' bright, wobbly guitar lines, which shadow Burke's melodies like an eager-to-please stray cat following her down the street." - Pitchfork "They're easily the most exciting band I saw at CMJ." - Guardian "[Weaves'] effervescent brand of pop is super dizzying and intoxicating... this curious quartet can fashion earworms out of what appears to be pure sonic mishmash." - Stereogum "One More," the first single from Weaves' debut full length, premiered today on NPR. Showcasing the band at their most frenetic, the track is, according to frontwoman Jasmyn Burke, an assertion of independence. "Sometimes I'm bothered by female lyrical content that feels indirect or is only about wanting a certain thing," says Burke. "I think there's room for women to have a more individual voice in music and to be having fun rather than looking for their next love. It's ok for it to not to be that, and to be more independent. Maybe it's going out and getting drunk, and it's not like a fairytale, sometimes its more shitty and pizza and that's ok! That's gonna be life for a while!"
STREAM: "One More" -https://soundcloud.com/weavesmusic/one-more With the single the band have announced their signing to Kanine and Memphis Industries, who will be releasing the band's album in conjunction with Buzz Records on June 17th. In advance of the release the band will be heading to Austin for SXSW and touring in the US with Sunflower Bean. About Weaves: In a little over two short years, Weaves have gone from a collection of voice memos on Jasmyn Burke's iPhone to establishing themselves as one of the most stridently individual acts to emerge from the Toronto's fertile and multifaceted DIY scene. Led by the collaborative efforts of Morgan Waters and Jasmyn Burke, the band have built a devoted audience while capturing the attention of the international media with a brand of ebullient, art-damaged pop music as difficult to categorize as it is to ignore.
The group began in a series of sessions in the living room of Water's Chinatown apartment, where Waters and Burke would record increasingly elaborate demos built from Burke's phone full of songs. They transitioned to a full band line up in late 2013, adding bassist Zach Bines and drummer Spencer Cole, and quickly set to work recording their debut EP which was released on Buzz Records in the summer of 2014. The EP made an immediate splash, garnering praise from Noisey, Rookie and Spin, and earning Weaves a "band to watch" tag from Rolling Stone. Glowing write ups of the band's performances at that year's CMJ from The Guardian and NME followed, cementing Weaves' reputation as one of the year's most exciting new bands. Word continued to spread in 2015 with the release of their single "Tick," ahead of the band's first European tour, which included dates with Hinds, Dan Deacon and Pissed Jeans, and appearances at Glastonbury and Iceland Airwaves. With their already sterling live show only sharpened by their time on the road, the band returned to CMJ in October and emerged as one of the hottest acts of the festival, earning "best of the festival" write ups from NPR and The New York Times among others, and further building the anticipation for their forthcoming full length. Weaves have been working on their debut LP for almost as long as they have been a band, tracking with Leon Taheny (Dilly Dally, Owen Pallett, Austra) in sessions that span most of the last two years. Mixed by Alex Newport (Bloc Party, Melvins, At The Drive In) and mastered by John Greenham (Death Grips, Sky Ferreira), the result is an album that traverses the band's history, exploring every facet of their always adventurous approach to pop music and leaving no idea unexplored. Filled beyond bursting with hooks and possibilities, it's the sound of a band propelled forward by the thrill of discovering the limits of their sound and gleefully pushing past them. "We're always trying to push ourselves," says Waters, "sometimes it feels like bands aren't necessary, like they're not the one's pushing music forward, so I think we're trying to hopefully prove that bands aren't boring. If we are going to be a band and if we are going to do this guitar, bass and drums thing then we might as well see how much we can fuck it up."

Basses Loaded cover March 7, 2016, Camelback Ranch, Ariz. – The Melvins, who have a history of imaginative line-up changes, feature not one, but six different bass players on their appropriately titled new album, Basses Loaded (June 3, Ipecac Recordings).

First in his native New York City from time spent rummaging days worth of record crates and too many late nights with samplers and synths in various Brooklyn loft buildings and basements. The project gained a more permanent shape upon decampment to Berlin, and in close association and inspiration with longtime collaborators and comrades Darkside (Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington.) The culmination of this was Visuals self-titled debut EP via Jaar's label Other People in 2014, which placed the songs on many tastemaker radars. Visuals is set to follow the success with Other People and the lessons learned as a Berlin-nee-NYC producer and multi-instrumentalist, recently returned home, with the announcement of The State of Things EP due March 25th this year. The disc will find a home on Berlin label thesongsays . The first title track was premiered on Self-Titled Mag and the bonus track is now available for free download onXLR8R.TOUR DATES

Visuals will debut on thesongsays with his beautifully well-rounded novella of an EP, The State Of Things. The label has long focused on the romantic and conceptual currents of dance music and Visuals joins the tight-knit roster with three stunning songs that perfectly fit the thesongsays ethos while bringing together the diverse elements of his musical background. The Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist - whose work debuted on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People imprint - excels not only through his distinctive vocal style and melodic richness, but also through the acute subtlety of his lyrical content. The record’s A-side is a case in point: pure tropical melancholia that finds Visuals lyrically sifting through the modern contradictions of everyday life over lambent pads and off-kilter percussion: “I couldn’t tell hell from paradise / I’m so caught up in the state of things.” While the vocals recall the realm of indie, the quirky textures and post-production (courtesy of DARKSIDE member Dave Harrington and Berlin-based house producer and drummer Louis McGuire ) gesture toward the electronic. On the flip, the buoyant bass line of "Days Of Our Youth" anticipates an infectious chorus that feels perfectly anthemic for spring and summer: "Days of our youth on fire / Burning in your eyes." It’s an expertly crafted and arranged piece of music that lends itself to adventurous DJs wanting to give the room something counterintuitive and unusual. Completing the release is "No Handle"—pensive, deep, and hypnotic for the noir corners of early morning dance floors.

NOTHING have shared the Don Argott-directed music video for lead single "Vertigo Flowers". More assured in their sound, the first single from their sophomore LP, Tired Of Tomorrow , immediately stands out from their catalogue with its pronounced vocals, fast-paced drumming, and pummelingwaves of guitar. Its a bold first statement for a band who know no other way than to go all out.Domenic Palermo from the band describes the concept behind the video and its uncomfortable genesis;
"The song is very much about dealing with spells of paranoia. We built a 12x12 white room and put everyone in white jumpers. I had Don orchestrate a group of 10 individuals with 10 gallon high pressure fire extinguishers filled with a mixture of house paint and water to fire off randomly at his call while also being blinded with giant flood lights so we couldn't see ahead. Everyone in the band was told the paint would burn the eyes, taste bad in mouth, and be very cold (it was also in a garage in 10 degree weather). It was shot in a single take as we had no way to have a real rehearsal.
I wanted to create a blank canvas and let the unpredictability and anxiety that comes with the anticipation of something awful tell the story, all the while showcasing the brilliance and beauty that can follow and be left, directly behind."

Post-Punk / Art Rockers Drinking Flowers Share Video For "Black Monday"
DRINKING FLOWERS SHARE SURREAL VIDEO FOR "BLACK FRIDAY"NEW SWIRLED ORDER OUT FRIDAY VIA MANIFESTO RECORDS
WATCH / EMBED "BLACK MONDAY" HERE
"It's the hymn of a disgruntled generation searching for, and waiting for, an epiphany that can only come from within."- Flaunt Magazine
"The track draws instant comparisons to Depeche Mode and The Cure in my head."- Paste Magazine Los Angeles post-punk revivalists Drinking Flowers have shared the disorienting video for their catchy single "Black Monday" off of their upcoming album New Swirled Order.
Guitarist Alexander describes the making of the video...
"'Black Monday' is a simple and straightforward song. We originally imagined the video to be the same. We pictured normal people caught up in their mundane struggles, and a fairly linear plot. We came up with a story wrote a script and showed it to our bandmates. They all seemed to like it but some of them thought something was missing. We all agreed that we were way too weird to have a video full of cliches and regular happenings.
We decided to make a more dangerous video one that is both surreal and relatable. We made a character with a double life. With dreams and reality folding in on each other. Lately we've been really inspired by film makers like David Lynch and John Waters, we wanted to make a video that was hopefully as dark as one and as ridiculous as the other.
We got together, painted our apartment gold, threw glitter on the walls, bought fog machines, invited 50 people over to our 1 bedroom apartment, and sweated together in a record-breaking heat wave while listening to "Black Monday" on repeat. We turned our living room into a nightclub, and setup our equipment. We pretended to play music for hours and our friends we're dancing so hard that our telephone broke and chandelier fell from the ceiling. The evening's absurdity was captured on film and everyone left by 3am.
That night we fell asleep on the living room floor, all of our furniture was crammed into our tiny bedroom. Jade and I we're covered in metallic confetti and glitter. The house was completely annihilated. We looked around in awe at the gigantic mess. I think that's sort of what you can take from the video: sometimes in order to be yourself or breakaway from a routine you have to do something crazy, sometimes you have to be crazy to be yourself at least that's what the world has been telling me." Taking from the book of Factory Records era post-punk, "Black Monday" is an incredibly dark yet, catchy slice of synth-pop. Vocalist / guitarist Alex Galindo explains, "'Black Monday' popped into my head, and it seemed to be the perfect two words to capture my feelings at the time. I was depressed, completely uninspired from my day job, and felt trapped. I wanted to make a really dumb and simple pop song with a lot of repetition and only a couple variations floating around. It's sort of a metaphor for the constant flow of uncreative non-liberating work most of us find ourselves doing." Drinking Flowers originated in Orange County. Shrugging off the shackles of surf and garage, they quickly moved to LA and within a few years established their own pop underground with a couple of washed out EPs. Most notably the transitional "Shadow Show" - whose cover art saw a collaboration with Vice News artist Alex Schubert. New Swirled Order will grace your ears this Friday March 18th 2016 on LP, digital & cassette.
