PRESS RELEASE
Having completed a preliminary round of work on their eponymous 2015 album at Rockfield Studios, Wire found themselves with 19 tracks. Among them, there was a critical mass of 11 aesthetically unified songs. In typical Wire fashion, however, the remaining material was something other: it had the sound of a band already moving in a different direction, beyond the album project in which they were engaged at that time. These tracks were the basis for Nocturnal Koreans .
The difference between the two clusters of work birthed at Rockfield has its roots in discrete approaches to the studio process itself. “The WIRE album was quite respectful of the band,” explains Colin Newman, “and Nocturnal Koreans is less respectful of the band—or, more accurately, it’s the band being less respectful to itself—in that it’s more created in the studio, rather than recorded basically as the band played it, which was mostly the case with WIRE . A general rule for this record was: any trickery is fair game, if it mak es it sound better.” Nocturnal Koreans emphasises studio construction over authentic performance, using the recording environment as an instrument, not just as a simple means of capturing Wire playing. After Rockfield, the band reconvened at Brighton Electric studios to contribute additional parts, and the work was then further honed and developed by Newman at Swim studio.
Although it’s become de rigueur to talk about Wire’s capacity for self-reinvention, that’s never the whole story. Certainly, the impulse to pursue fresh ideas with each phase of work is buried deep in their artistic DNA, but they’ve balanced that commitment to the new with a core character and attitude that’s always at some level recognisable as Wire—without being reducible to a formulaic sound. It’s this enduring dialectic that gives Wire their unique status as a long-established band that continues to forge ahead with original music: always unmistakably Wire but always reimagined and reframed with each successive project.
The tracks “Internal Exile” and “Numbered” encapsulate this dynamic. The latter kicks off in vintage Wire mode with rigid, staccato insistence, but quickly moves through the gears to motor forward on a neo-kosmische glide driven by guitar arpeggios and Harmonia-esque synth. There’s a key, of sorts, in the lyrics: Newman playfully gestures to past glories (“You think I’m a number / Still willing to rhumba”) but refuses to rest on them for an instant (“As if I care”).The synthetic, waltzing gait of “Internal Exile” channels the spirit of underappreciated ’80s Wire (think: “The Queen of Ur and the King of Um”), but relocates it in a broader organic landscape, intriguingly fleshed out with Matthew Simms’s lap-steel guitar and, for the first time in Wire’s history, trumpet. Here, the band looks backwards and forwards simultaneously, all the while managing to avoid joining “the queue of future has-beens” mentioned in Graham Lewis’s lyric.
Nocturnal Koreans is striking in its diversity, the band fluently negotiating an expansive stylistic range, from immensely catchy pop to ambient introspection and beyond. Chronicling a sleepless night that Wire spent in a seedy Boston-area hotel on their 2013 US tour, the title track is the kind of charging, urgent tune that’s always been Newman’s forte. Lewis’s lyrics make this one of Simms’s favourites on the record, largely because of the associated memories: “It’s a great snapshot of touring America, and when I hear or play that song, it reminds me of the many weird and wonderful times, places and people that cross your path.”
Wire aren’t exactly famous for thumping-great major-chord anthems, but “Still” is just that. “Initially the band mostly hated it,” says Newman, “because it’s all major chords. I’d in fact used them quite deliberately. I was thinking about ‘Map Ref.’—which is all major chords—and how most of my songs have minor chords in them, or even weirdo chords, jazz chords. So this was like making a song with an almost bog-standard riff: there’s a billion records with that chord sequence.” The wide-screen scope of “Still,” which sounds massive despite its sub-three minute duration, comes down to Newman’s production choices, starting with Robert Grey’s drums: “We had Rob re-record his parts on everything through a mini-disc to create another layer of drums and ambience squashed with compression, so it sounds more lively and distorted and a bit more modern. You could accuse us of being fashion-conscious, but your records have to live in the world with lots of other releases, and you can’t sound a bit old-fashioned. So, on ‘Still’ we made the drums heavier and then the guitars heavier, with some synth underneath doing the same chords, so you end up with this big, rolling sound.”
At the other end of the spectrum is the beatless “Forward Position,” an austere psychodrama of drones, lap steel and spectral ambience. Despite its quiet fragility, it bristles with icy tension, amplified by reportage-style lyrics that seem to fuse personal trauma and the landscape of war, with Newman intoning the unsettling threat-cum-statement, “I am black box, I remember / Every promise that you broke.” Compared with the other tracks, this is the album’s equivalent of a prog-rock epic, clocking in at just under five minutes: “There’s a ridiculously compressed timescale on these tracks,” laughs Newman. “Look at the length of them: the longest one’s only 3:30, and most of them are short enough to be pop singles, except ‘Forward Position’—it’s too long, and it’s not cheerful enough for radio. ”
No Wire album would be truly complete without a Graham Lewis lead vocal, and the closing “Fishes Bones” doesn’t disappoint. Just when you think Lewis isn’t going to show up—after seven tracks on which Newman sings lead—it’s as if the studio door has been kicked open and there he is, a deranged thespian delivering a disciplined-yet-unhinged stream-of-consciousness slam to a driving, increasingly chaotic accompaniment. Simms found this track liberating, as it opened up creative space for the band members to express themselves: “Recording ‘Fishes Bones’ in Rockfield was exciting to me as it’s the only song for those sessions that was able to be approached differently, in that it was written as a band and Graham added the vocals later the same evening. I think it contains aspects of the interesting identity of each musi cian in Wire and presents them together in an unusual way, the result of which I like a lot.”
It’s been almost a decade since Wire reemerged from their post-Send hiatus, during which—not for the first time in its history—the band appeared to have run its course; in the intervening years, over four albums, they’ve enjoyed a late-career creative-growth spurt, settling into an inspired, industrious new lineup. Nocturnal Koreans is another unambiguous statement of how far Wire have come since 2007, a timely measure of a band in rude health, still brimming with ideas, imagination and energy.

2016 and all that

Nocturnal Koreans is unusual for Wire in that it is an "off year" release of new material. The practicalities of our touring cycle - currently one which allows us to play major markets every two years - means that we cannot tour the album in the normal way. Even so, there are a few gigs coming soon, and more may well be added. The current state of play is as follows:
Mar 10: Con Club, Lewes, UK (Sold Out)
Mar 11: Komedia, Bath, UK
Mar 12: Cosmosis Festival, Manchester, UK
Apr 22-24: ATP, Prestatyn (curated by Drive Like Jehu)
May 27 & 29: GetMAD! Festival, Madrid, Spain

High Waisted's Debut "On Ludlow" Out NOW, Say Goodbye to Winter Blues
High Waisted’s New Album “On Ludlow”
is out NOW

“Each of these 12 tracks is a party unto itself, complete with scuzzy bass, bright vocal harmonies, and enough reverb to fill a decently sized punch bowl.” – Consequence of Sound
“The band’s mastery of 50s era vocals and classic surf guitar will have you dancing in your chair while considering buying tickets to Hawaii.” - Noisey
“Frontwoman Jess Dye and the band are also noted for bringing the lower Manhattan lifestyle to full fruition on stage and in their videos . - Impose
[Lead singer Jessica Louise] Dye sings with an easiness that disguises how technically demanding the parts are. Translation: girl can sing, and she does.” – Brooklyn Vegan
"High Waisted is primed and ready to take on the world, one surf anthem at a time." - Paste
“Somehow, they’ve managed to balance organic, unfiltered energy with the finesse necessary to craft lush and dreamy soundscapes that make you want to both chill and get up to dance and freak out – which is quite a feat.” – Alt Citizen
New York, NY, March 4, 2016—The day has finally come—NYC’s own High Waisted has dropped their debut LP On Ludlow . To cure our winter blues, the band has brought us the taste of summertime and sunshine that we are all so desperately craving. Their traction in the Lower East Side was built using their contagious positivity and always- ready-to-party attitude, as is shown clearly through the lyrics and surf-pop sound of their first full-fledged album. With lead singer Jessica Louise Dye’s powerful voice and an eclectic mix of party pop and grungy garage- band rock, the group brings empowerment, feminine inspiration, and incredible vitality to all those enjoying their music.
The album is welcomed with open arms and enthusiasm, as is expected after the release of their single “Door” and video for “Party in the Back” were so well received. While the band can bring their infectious upbeat vibe with them wherever they go, as they demonstrated during their Midwestern US tour, they are happy to be back in their favorite city for the self-release of their first album.
Sounds too crazy for your laid back lifestyle? Not to worry—this surf rock band knows when to slow it down, and does so beautifully with radiant melodies and what some would call a daydream-like sound. High Waisted surely has something for all of your listening needs—wild or tame with a vibe of summery revel in each track.

Today, The Big Pink released their highly anticipated “Empire Underground” EP, now available on iTunes,Amazon, Spotify and on Vinyl worldwide from today.
The EP has seen a welcome return for U.K duo with coverage spanning from the likes of Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 World Exclusive for their new single “ Decoy ” and KCRW’s ‘Top Tune’ for lead single “ Hightimes ,” as well a surge of press support from the likes of Pitchfork, The FADER, NME, Stereogum, Consequence of Sound,SPIN Magazine, NYLON Magazine, ANTHEM and many more!
Currently the band is on the road for their headlining tour in North America, having played to a full-house in New York last week, the band are working their way along the east coast and will be playing shows in sunny Austin, Texas this month for SXSW Music Festival. The tour wraps on the west coast next month and will also see them playing with rock n’ roll duo The Kills.
Originally, Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell formed The Big Pink back in 2008. Having released a low-key single on unknown independent House Anxiety in 2008, the band’s rising star drew the attention of 4AD, penning a worldwide deal with the label in early 2009. Ignoring the pressure that befits such music industry hype, the band eloped to the Electric Lady Studios in New York to record and self-produce what was to become their epic debut album, “A Brief History of Love.” The band were swiftly rewarded for their hard work and won yet anotherNME Award for their breakthrough single “Dominos” as Best Track in 2010.
The Big Pink's second album, “Future This,” was recorded over the summer of 2011. The band worked with producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & The Machine, Friendly Fires) to help them match their high ambitions. The end result did exactly that, adding more shades to The Big Pink palette, rewarding both them and listener for their patience.
Both “A Brief History of Love” and “Future This,” reached Top 10 status in the U.S Billboard Heatseekersand Tastemakers Album Charts.
The Big Pink is now formed of founder Robbie Furze, Mary Charteris, Free Hallas and Jesse Russell. Currently on the road, the band has also been busy writing and recordining their eagerly anticipated third full-length album which is due later in the year.
“Empire Underground” features contributors Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow), Dave McCraken (producer of Ian brown), Robert Been (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) and was mixed by the legendary Alan Moulder.

Miike Snow Raise The Curtain on "iii"
MIIKE SNOW RAISE THE CURTAIN ON “iii”
SWEDISH/AMERICAN TRIO RETURN WITH LONG AWAITED THIRD ALBUM, FEATURING ACCLAIMED SINGLE, “”GENGHIS KHAN,”
NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR UNDERWAY NOW
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE HEADLINE DATES AND FESTIVAL APPEARANCES AT COACHELLA, MOOGFEST, HANGOUT, BOSTON CALLING, GOVERNORS BALL, AND MORE
“iii” AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE TODAY
[image error]Downtown/Atlantic recording group Miike Snow has announced today’s release of iii . The band’s third studio album is available now in stores and at all online retailers. In addition, limited edition picture disc vinyl is available exclusively via Miike Snow’s official webstore.
Miike Snow is celebrating “iii” with a major North American headline tour, the Swedish/American trio’s first in more than three years. The dates – now almost completely sold out – began last night at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge and travel the continent before returning to the Big Apple for a performance at the annual Governor’s Ball NYC Music Festival on June 4th (see attached itinerary). The tour will make stops at a number of top music festivals, highlighted by a prominent Sunday slot at Indio, CA’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, slated for April 17th and 24th. Other upcoming festies include Miami, FL’s Ultra Music Festival (March 18th), Durham, NC’s Moogfest (May 19th), Gulf Shores, AL’s Hangout Music Festival (May 21st-22nd), Boston, MA’s Boston Calling (May 28th). For complete details and remaining ticket information, please see www.miikesnow.com.
Miike Snow made a major network TV appearance earlier this week, performing “Genghis Khan” and “Heart Is Full” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! “At first, it seemed like (Miike Snow’s) take on ‘Heart’ would be a more subdued, acoustic affair,” wrote SPIN of the performance, “but they switched things up by infusing the track with a wild, funky blast of energy. It’s perhaps only topped by the addition of horns blasting to the wonky tune of ‘Genghis Khan.’”
“Genghis Khan” is currently spending its third consecutive week atop SiriusXM’s Alt Nation Alt 18 Countdown while also ascending the top 15 at Alternative outlets nationwide. The anthemic single – available now on the iTunes Store and all DSPs – is accompanied by a strikingly provocative companion video. Directed by Ninian Goff (Migos, Royal Blood, The Chemical Brothers), “Genghis Khan” has already drawn more than 2.5 million individual YouTube views as well as online attention from Buzzfeed, which declared the “campy, dance-filled clip” to be “delightfully out there.”
“Genghis Khan” has drawn euphoric critical attention, with Billboard commending the track as “more proof that (Miike Snow) are reinventing themselves yet again.” Exclaim.ca decreed “Genghis Khan” to be “a slinky electro-pop number in which bouncy beats anchor a simple arrangement of synth stabs and sexy, seductive falsetto melodies,” while SPIN saluted the track’s “crisp kick-snare-fill punch and sterling pianos,” declaring it “very much a return to form for the trio.” “A bright, funky reminder of Miike Snow's serious pop chops,” affirmed Rolling Stone in an exclusive interview with the trio’s Andrew Wyatt, whileNoisey hailed “Genghis Khan” for its “booming synth hits, and a melt of different vocals layering over each other, making the track another certified banger.”
“iii” also includes the acclaimed track, “Heart Is Full,” which drew copious acclaim upon its arrival last year. “A bold comeback track,” commended Consequence of Sound, “brimming with rich, soul samples, thundering beats, and larger-than-life melodies that’ll make you forget Miike Snow was ever gone to begin with.”“It’s a big, bold metropolitan pop track bolstered by a walloping boom-bap drum loop, blaring soul samples,” raved Stereogumwhile SPIN declared it to be “a bold, almost jazzy new track that’s a bit of a departure from the rest of (Miike Snow’s) music, though their signature, wintery vibes shine through in the chorus.”
“Heart Is Full” is joined by a compelling and dystopic companion video. The clip – directed by Lance Drake (Rob Roy, Twin Shadow) – premiered late last year via Miike Snow’s official Facebook page and is streaming now at the trio’s official YouTube channel. In addition, the extraordinary “Heart Is Full (Feat. Run The Jewels) [Remix]” premiered via The Fader, which praised the original track for its “pleading horns, chopped-up soul samples, and thick, DJ Premier-recalling drums” before commending “powerhouse rap duo Run The Jewels” for contributing “a pair of boom bap-friendly verses of their own. It's an unlikely combination, but a fitting one for the gritty love song.”
Formed in 2007 by Swedish musicians Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (a.k.a. production duo Bloodshy & Avant) and American singer/songwriter Andrew Wyatt, Miike Snow unveiled their self-titled debut album two years later, earning international acclaim for the distinctive fusion of plaintive pop songcraft and atmospheric electronics found on tracks like the breakthrough single, “Black & Blue.”
“HAPPY TO YOU” followed in 2012, drawing critical applause from such high profile outlets as Entertainment Weekly, which praised Miike Snow’s “meticulous sonic-palette landscapes,” noting, “The spirit of ‘HAPPY TO YOU’ is indie rock, but the sound is as addictively sharp as anything in the Top 40.”
The members of Miike Snow have spent much of time since traveling fresh creative avenues, including solo albums, the formation of new bands, and a wide variety of production and songwriting collaborations. The trio first began work on “iii” in late 2013 and then continued over the next two years, the far-flung members convening in studios in New York, Los Angeles, and Stockholm, oft times teaming with other songwriters and producers in search of new sonic and emotional approaches. The result is Miike Snow’s most innovative and creatively unified work thus far, typified by the propulsive pop soul of tracks like “For U (Feat. Charli XCX).”For more, please see www.miikesnow.com, facebook.com/miikesnow, twitter.com/miikesnow,youtube.com/miikesnow, soundcloud.com/miikesnow, and www.atlanticrecords.com.

Everybody Wants , the debut album from critically lauded U.K. rockers The Struts is out today on Freesolo/Interscope Records. The album is receiving early critical acclaim including from Entertainment Weekly , Yahoo Music who featured the Everybody Wants as one of their “Most Anticipated Albums of 2016” and from T: The New York Times Style Magazine who hails, “The Struts are headed for big things.”
In addition, the band is touring throughout the summer in support of Everybody Wants. The new dates follow a sold-out show last night at New York’s Irving Plaza and a run of dates, which included being hand-picked by Mötley Crüe to open for the legendary band’s final four performances ever on top of opening for The Rolling Stones in Paris. The new video for the latest single “Kiss This” captures footage from their past year on the road, highlighting the undeniable response from fans and the band’s celebrated and dynamic live show. Everybody Wants was recorded in London, Bournemouth and Jersey in the U.K and in Los Angeles. Of the new music, which was co-written by the band, front man Luke Spiller says, “Everybody Wants is a collection of songs for the disenchanted. When putting the album together we have approached it with the mindset that when listening, you are taken on a journey. You can even hear the album title in the chorus of the opening track ‘Roll Up.’ This song gives you the insight to a larger than life character that opens the door to the rest of the album. I think anyone who listens to this album will hear our journey and feel our ambition. We truly have put our hearts and souls into it, and I hope you love it as much as we do.”
The debut follows the band’s 2015 EP Have You Heard, featuring the hit song “Could Have Been Me,” which cracked the Top 5 at Modern Rock radio, hit #1 on Spotify’s viral chart and received over 2.5 million Vevo/YouTube views. The band also performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
