[image error] [image error] With his new band vangoffeySupergrass star Danny Goffey is set to release single ‘Sucker’, taken from the critically acclaimed debut album Take Your Jacket Off & Get Into It. And the brand new video for the track stars his step-daughter Daisy Lowe. The eerie video features Daisy in period dress, possessed – dancing in her sleep through corridors and down an old Victorian stairwell.
The charismatic multi-instrumentalist Danny Goffey currently resides in Somerset with his wife Pearl Lowe (singer of ‘90s post-punk band Powder and mother of Daisy Lowe), along with their children, all of whom have starred in vangoffey’s videos for ‘Trials of a Modern Man’ and ‘Race of Life’. The brand new video was filmed at the Supergrass’ star’s home.
Speaking about the new video, Goffey said: “I had this strange idea of a Dickensian-esq band of travelling minstrels, walking down a long Roman road in procession. This was thwarted by the weather, so we changed the plan and filmed in my house. Stroma Cairns, a great up and coming filmmaker directed the video, and she was great to work with.
“I managed to lure Daisy into this one, and we had a great time. I can now say all four of my children have featured in the vangoffey videos for this album, proving that sometimes it is good to 'keep it in the family.'”
Daisy Lowe added: “It was such a joy being part of the video. Danny has always been a very inspiring part of my life and he makes me giggle so much, so shooting the video was just loads of fun. I loved letting his music take over me and dancing like a possessed Victorian lady!
“We laughed so much after each take. Stroma Cairns was a joy to work with, she knew what she wanted and knew when we had gotten her shot. I'm so excited to share it with everyone. ❤️”
Take Your Jacket Off & Get Into It, which was released in October 2015 on Distiller Records, has been championed by the likes of NME, Q, UncutBBC 6 Music and Radio X, and Goffey’s mischievous wit on previously released tracks ‘Trials of a Modern Man’ and ‘Race of Life’continues to charm the nation.
‘Sucker’ is no exception; a no-frills tale of a failed romantic pursuit, which showcases Goffey’s knack for amusing, relatable story-telling – a definitive trait of the man who wrote classic Supergrass hits ‘Alright’, ‘Caught by the Fuzz’ and ‘Late in the Day’.
It’s just over 20  years since Supergrass’ breakthrough hit album ‘I Should Coco’ was released, and Goffey has had a fantastic career – from the whirlwind days of Britpop, experiencingSupergrass’ incredibly rapid rise to the top of the charts in the ‘90s, to his brief stint touring withBabyshambles in their heyday. And Goffey’s new line up with vangoffey is considered somewhat of a super-group, consisting of Drew McConnell from Babyshambles, Louis Eliot from Rialto, and the son of Florence & the Machine producer and Pulp bassist Steve Mackey – Marley Mackey.
Goffey approached long term friend and award winning producer Juliette Larthe, co-founder of PRETTYBIRD UK, to work on the video for single ‘Sucker’. Together they brought on talented young director Stroma Cairns to collaborate on the film, while Danny drafted in Daisy Lowe and Thomas Cohen to join in the fun.

Origami Vinyl RIP 2009-2016

Friends and Family,

Today marks the end of Origami Vinyl. Over the last 7 years we have thoroughly enjoyed all of your patronage, high fives, and support. While this may come as a surprise to many of you, it has been something I’ve been thinking about for the past year. It is time for me to move on to new challenges and adventures and I will cherish every moment, relationship, and experience the shop has given me. Origami Vinyl started as a childhood dream for me and I feel so fortunate to have lived out that dream.
Even though Origami Vinyl will cease to exist today, the space will continue on as a record shop. Our good friends, Lance and Liz from Permanent Records in Highland Park (and Chicago) will be taking over the shop and are open for business as you read this. If you aren’t familiar with them, you will be. Their ethos of running a record shop are in line with what Origami was about. They are extremely passionate about the local community and the local music scene. I’m excited for you to get to know them and become friends with them. Their vision for the future of the space is incredible and will be a destination for vinyl enthusiasts. I couldn’t imagine passing this on to anyone else.
Please save the date of March 26th as Origami and Permanent will host a joint event at the shop where we’ll have bands, bevvies, and a hello/goodbye hug/high five sesh. Stay tuned to our instagrams for more details. @origamivinyl @permanentrecordsla
I want to take the time to thank everyone who has worked at the shop, Sean S., Emily, Thomas, Christine, Bennett, Angel, Simone, Ian, Sam, Brandon T., Brandon H., Matt, Sean F., Jeff, Morgan, and Katie. Big props to all of you who have interned, painted, hammered, helped us at FYF, etc. I love all of you and thanks for helping me to realize the dream of owning a record shop.
Emily will still host Record Club at El Prado on Tuesday nights. Follow her on instagram at @recordclubla

Their new hours starting today are:Sunday - Thursday :: Noon ’til 8pmFriday - Saturday :: Noon ’til 10pm?
As of today, Origami Vinyl gift certificates will not be accepted and are void. If you have consignment at the shop, you have until March 20th to come pick up your stuff and get paid out.  After that it will be considered a donation and will become property of Permanent Records. You can contact Emily if you haven’t heard from her already.

Fat White Family's electronic psych rock project, THE MOONLANDINGZ, hit SXSW to open for Iggy Pop

Fat White Family's electronic psych rock project, THE MOONLANDINGZ, hit SXSW to open for Iggy Pop
10" EP out now via Chimera Music
(band in studio recording debut album)
SXSW shows:Tuesday 15th: Official SXSW showcase Party at Cheer Up Charlie's (midnight)
Wednesday 16th: The Moody Theatre (Austin City Limits) w/ Iggy Pop (7pm sharp)

Photo: Johnny Rocket from The Moonlandingz (aka Lias) For a band that started out as fictional less than a year ago, The Moonlandingz (electronic psych rock project of Lias Saoudi and Saul Adamczewski from South London's Fat White Family and Sheffield's practical electronics wizards, Adrian Flanagan and Dean Honer of the Eccentronic Research Council) have gone from being the side show on The E.R.C's electronic avant garde spoken word concept album, to becoming (like FWF) one of Britain's most exciting and talked about new bands. Playing sold out shows where ever they go, the project brings a mixture of charm, chaos, agitation and a heavy dose of weird psychedelic pop with more hooks than a fisherman's basket, to everything they do.

Next week, they bring their lovable noise to the US, when they fly in to play a two shows at SXSW, one of which will be opening for Iggy Pop at The Moody Theatre (Austin City Limits), Wednesday March 16th (onstage at 7pm prompt).

What can you expect from the live shows?

"For the Moonlandingz, Lias brings out his alter ego, Johnny Rocket, who is like an extreme, and slightly wrong, pop star version of his Fat Whites persona - sometimes really extreme, but still just on the right side of bad taste. The music and the songs are the coolest freaky pop music you could ever hope for! Lias is the most engaging frontman in the UK right now, and together we are gonna bring the steaks and the shakes and 1 or 2 drunken mistakes!!!??!!" Adrian Flanagan

Cups Magazine: twenty years ago

I moved to NYC 20 years ago. We left San Francisco on March 11th, 1996. Went to Barstow, Laughlin, Las Vegas, Rifle and Boulder, Colorado; also stayed in Kansas near the Eisenhower Library, Normal, Illinois, where we hung out at Dalkey Archive, Cleveland where we saw the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and nine days later made it to NYC.

Lucius' Good Grief out today and worldwide tour dates confirmed

LUCIUS’ GOOD GRIEF
OUT TODAY VIA MOM + POP
WORLDWIDE TOUR DATES CONFIRMED [image error] [image error]  Good Grief ,   the new album from critically acclaimed five-piece Lucius is out today via Mom + Pop. The album, which debuted as an NPR Music First Listen, continues to receive critical acclaim:
“Ebullient.”—Rolling Stone
“Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig’s soaring vocals make a massive pop sound and hint at new possibilities for one of our favorite bands.”—NPR Music
“Especially gorgeous, moving…”—The New York Times
“Knocking the listener sideways with some perfectly plush
Fleetwood Mac-meets-early-Heart vibes.”—Vice’s Noisey
“...dabbling in pristine harmonies, the Berklee-trained sirens more often belt it out as a single unit with a force that decimates Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound and has the potential to reach Jupiter.”—Consequence Of Sound
“Uncertainty and emotional turmoil loom over some of its best tracks, as Wolfe and Laessig’s voices belt out some of their most powerful harmonies yet.”—Paste
Lucius—led by its co-founders and vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig accompanied by multi-instrumentalists Andrew BurriPeter Lalish and Dan Molad—have confirmed worldwide tour dates with stops at Austin’s SXSW Festival, New York’s Webster Hall, Paris’ La Maroquinerie, Los Angeles’ The Fonda Theatre, Bonnaroo, Osheaga Festival and more. Paste calls their live show “…a display that employs collaborative percussion, eye-catching stage props and a symbiosis of themselves and their audience.” Tickets can be purchased at http://bit.ly/lcs16p. See below for complete tour dates.
Good Grief was produced by Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Weezer) and Lucius with Bob Ezrin. The album was mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Beck). Of the album, Wolfe says, “When we started writing for this record, we had been away from home for nearly two years. We had just returned from tour, having gone through such varied emotions—loneliness, sadness and exhaustion alongside excitement, fulfillment and some of the most joyful moments in our lives…Whenever one of us had an idea or a feeling, the other was already a witness to it and could help navigate through it—for the two of us, this usually came in song form.” Laessig adds, “…When considering titles, we wanted to be sure to acknowledge any serious subject matter, while simultaneously allowing ourselves a comic sigh of relief from any personal turmoil. Ha! The yin and yang of the record naturally unveiled itself and, so, Good Grief.”

UK 2014. Dir: John Foxx, John Karborn. 25 mins.
The 2014 album B-Movie (Ballardian Video Neuronica) by John Foxx, one of electro-pop's original pioneers, provides most of the soundtrack for this cut-up movie by Foxx and artist/designer John Karborn featuring typography design & animation by Jon Barnbrook. Inspired by the themes, influence and text of writer J. G. Ballard, it is described as 'a film and sound seance manifesting J. G. Ballard neurones. Mobilised by ultracolour and inframusic, anatomised hallucinogenetics and proximity psychopathagens.' Look out for bits of VERTIGO and THE THIRD MAN.
