WATCH: FLOCK OF DIMES W/ THOR & FRIENDS LIVE VIA  PITCHFORK
READ: JENN'S FEELS ON MAKING THIS RECORD VIA  MEDIUM
Flock Of Dimes (aka Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak) is a gifted singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and above all else: storyteller. On her debut full length, If You See Me, Say Yes, out next Friday 9/23 on Partisan Records, Wasner weaves together "a slyly infectious and characteristically reflective set of synth-pop songs...mixing self-doubt and self-knowledge to form real insight" (NPR Music). You can hear a first listen of the record now via NPR Music.
Today, you can also watch her new songs come to life via special performances taped with Thor Harris (of Swans) and his band via Pitchfork Radio (audio to go live at 2PMET today) & Pitchfork Scene.  Quite simply, these live performances are magical.
Taped in Thor's home in Austin, Texas, the sessions feature entirely new arrangements of Flock Of Dimes distinct songs, incorporating violins, xylophones and pedal steel.  Says Jenn, "Lucky me! I got to spend a few days in Austin, TX with these talented, kind, creative people, breathing new life into a group of songs that I had already lived with for years. This session was the first time that this group of people shared the same space, and these versions are as beautiful and ephemeral as I had hoped they would be."
Yesterday, Jenn published a heartfelt, honest piece (via  Medium ) on what inspired the record, including coming to terms with being alone. If you can read this and not relate, I don't know if you're a human :/ This fall you can see her live on a headlining tour (backed by Aaron Roche, Katie Harkin and Will Hackney)-- find all dates below.
Praise for  If You See Me, Say Yes:
'"one of rock's most gripping bandleaders, a shredder whose slurred and alluring vocals articulate a world of worry and self-discovery." --NPR MUSIC
"a song of watchful possibility, set against synth-pop grandeur "--NEW YORK TIMES
"A 21st-century Joni Mitchell." --8/10, UNCUT
"[a] voice [that] manages to be both titanic and inviting at the same time, and who has a way of lending grandeur to indie rock songs that would not sound even remotely comparable coming from any other human being."--STEREOGUM
"Compellingly multi-faceted"  --8/10, LINE OF BEST FIT "dreamy"--AV CLUB
"light and expansive, allowing for her impressive vocal range to take a front seat"

EFG RELEASE NEW EP ‘THRU THE FUTURE’ TODAY, WITH EXCLUSIVE BIT TORRENT BUNDLE FEATURING REMIX FROM NICK ZINNER (YEAH YEAH YEAHS)

LA’s EFG RELEASE NEW EP 'THRU THE FUTURE’ TODAY', WITH EXCLUSIVE BIT TORRENT BUNDLE FEATURING REMIX FROM NICK ZINNER (YEAH YEAH YEAHS) Psych-rockers EFG will share their explosive new EP, Thru The Future, today via Bodan Kuma Recordings, and an Exclusive Bundle via BitTorrent, Featuring a remix from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nick Zinner. DOWNLOAD  'THRU THE FUTURE’ TODAY' “If songs can come from visions and dreams then Suzanne is the white-mare, the meta specter of conscious and subconscious love and hate, tinted through a Leonard Cohen afterworld with all of Garza & Biller’s rhythms as its thundering hoof-beat.” I. Wasif (vocal/guitar)Imaad Wasif (vox, guitar), Josh Garza (drums) and Tom Biller (bass) lay down the thunderous beats, snarling riffs and dreamy psychedelia that make up EFG. At the heart of their new EP, Thru the Future, is a primitivism and warmth that make it the most evolved of all their music to date. Songs are black around the eyes and rough around the edges, with Wasif as their narrator, white-knuckling their vehicle straight off a cliff. Songs were formed in Tom Biller’s WPO studio from fragments of lyrics, snarling riffs and motorik beats; experimentation gone positively awry and thrown into alchemy with all sorts of Spiritus Sanctus. “We ended up with waves of wonder, ecstatic truths and mutilation.” Tom Biller (bass)The band play their instruments fiercely, with a connection that reveals a complex relationship fueled as much by cohesion as discord. They may use traditional musical instruments but other sounds are clearly generated by instruments pushed beyond conventionality. “EFG has NYC Dream House blood, a psychedelic spine and a kraut/japrock pulse.” Josh Garza (drums)

PSYCHIC TV - 'Alienist' - out tomorrow on Angry Love / Dais

Psychic TV - Alienist
Out September 16 On Angry Love / Dais RecordsLive Dates: NYC, Canada, Northwest

Listen / Share: "Alienist" on Soundcloud Here
Psychic TV return to us with  Alienist .  The album includes two original tracks: thehaunting yet emotional "I'm Looking For You"; an epic, multi-layered, metaphysical exploration in the form of a conversation between Genesis and "Lucifer", who is in hiding after his failed rebellion is over.  And "Alienist" which is a delightful fusion of dance grooves harking back to PTV's Acid House days and the group's current love of heavy psychedelic rock.
Back on a European tour in 2009, Genesis P-Orridge proposed the band perform the classic "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic as a musical interlude. After the tour, the band went into the studio to give a try at a recorded interpretation of the song. The result was astounding and the band set forth on a series of 12" records, yearly interpreting a rock classic and then offering a new song on the B side. Mostly chosen by drummer and co-producer Edley ODowd, songs have previously included "Silver Machine" by Hawkwind, "Mother Sky" by Can and "Dropout Boogie" by Captain Beefheart.
Alienist  continues Psychic TV's fascination of reinterpreting contemporary rock classics. This time tackling "Jump Into The Fire" by the late Harry Nilsson as well as Genesis' teenage favorite "How Does It Feel To Feel" by '60s British psychedelic rockers, The Creation.

She & Him Announce 'Christmas Party' Out Oct. 28

SHE & HIM ANNOUNCE  CHRISTMAS PARTY OUT OCTOBER 28TH ON COLUMBIA RECORDS
With exactly 100 days left until Christmas, today, She & Him are pleased to announce their latest album, Christmas Party out October 28th on Columbia Records. Christmas Party is the sixth album from the duo comprised of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, and is the follow up to their wildly popular A Very She And Him Christmas. Christmas Party features guest appearances by Jenny Lewis, The Chapin Sisters and Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley.

Christmas Party is replete with holiday favorites - including classics like Darlene Love and Phil Spector's "Marshmallow World," Bing Crosby's "Mele Kalikimaka" and Chuck Berry's "Run Run Rudolph." But, Ward and Deschanel also may introduce listeners to the more obscure tracks such as folk-singer Vashti Bunyon's "Coldest Night of the Year" and the lesser know Sinatra track "Christmas Memories." Pop favorites such as Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" and The Chipmunks "Christmas Don't Be Late" round out the celebration. Throughout the album is She & Him's signature organic stripped down take on production.

BEACH SLANG Shares New Album on NPR First Listen

BEACH SLANG
STREAM NEW ALBUM A LOUD BASH OF TEENAGE FEELINGS VIA NPR FIRST LISTEN
Album Out September 23rd On Polyvinyl Records
On Tour Now

Philadelphia's Beach Slang will release their new album,  A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings , on September 23rd on Polyvinyl Records. The album is available now to stream via NPR First Listen who says, "Beach Slang, pulls off exactly what it promises. A spiritual descendent of The Replacements - as well as a sonic cousin to bands like The Gaslight Anthem and Japandroids, who share its gift for dramatic pronouncements about life, death and rock 'n' roll - Beach Slang rattles the rafters with grace, power and concision." Listen to the album HERE.
The band recently released the music video for their single " Atom Bomb " with  Noisey , who called it "the fastest rager from A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings."
Beach Slang's second full-length is a crash-and-thunder collection of songs about what it takes to keep yourself going, to make it through the rest of the night-hell, through the rest of your youth-and beyond. Frontman James Alex wrote much of A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings on their first album's support tour, during which he spent a lot of time with the kids who'd picked up the record.
The band previously shared the song "Punks in Disco Bar." The video was described byNPR as "...a glimpse into what it's like to be young, misunderstood and out of place, yet finding belonging in each other. It's the perfect complement to 'Punks In A Disco Brand an ode to the motifs and life-affirming mission of Beach Slang." Watch it HERE.
A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings Tracklist:
Future Mixtape For The Art KidsAtom BombSpin The DialArt DamageHot TrampsPunks In A Disco BarWasted Daze Of YouthYoung HeartsThe Perfect HighWarpaintPraise for Beach Slang:"A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings single and song of the day "Punks In A Disco Bar" channels the same exuberant energy found throughout the group's debut album. Guitar riffs recall the best of 90's pop-punk and James' gravely voice emanates enough emotion to fill a stadium." - KEXP
"Packed with charred guitar riffs, seething feedback and heart-rate-raising drum fills, the song is another of Alex's unifying anthems. Influenced by the stories of countless fans whom the band (including bassist Ed McNulty and guitarist Ruben Gallego) met during a tumultuous year on the road, the song earnestly touches on the energy and alienation of youth, and on rising above our struggles together." - NPR Songs We Love
"Punks in a Disco Bar... is fist-pumping rock splendor, all big and wild and free." - USA Today
"As with everything Beach Slang puts out, the song is a raw, loud, and everything you want in a punk song, but is also still melodic and contains plenty of heart." - Baeble Music
"'Punks in a Disco Bar,' the first track from the record, a typically rousing and clattering track that will probably make your day 20 percent better." - Noisey
"The song will certainly be instantly recognizable to fans of the band's previous work, with the same never-caring, heart-punching, loud-things-loving lyrics and thick Minneapolis-style riffing of Beach Slang's debut LP - if a touch wearier than last time out." - Spin
"the heart-on-the-sleeve punks have already become the kind of band that fans rush to get tattooed all over their bodies. Well, those fans had better make room for some new ink..." - Consequence of Sound
"This new track seeps with feelings of youth and their accompanying frustration. Very punk guitar drowns the entire two minutes and 41 seconds, and the vocals don't hold anything back. It's just what you'd expect from a song called "Punks In A Disco Bar," and that's not a bad thing." WXPN

Drive-By Truckers share new song; set to appear on "CBS This Morning" and "NPR First Listen Live"

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS RELEASE LYRIC VIDEO FOR "FILTHY AND FRIED" SET TO APPEAR FOR INTERVIEW AND PERFORMANCE ON CBS THIS MORNING  OCTOBER 1 SET TO APPEAR ON NPR's FIRST LISTEN LIVE SERIESOCTOBER 5 AT 7P ET/4P PT NEW ALBUM, AMERICAN BAND, DUE OUT SEPTEMBER 30 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR STARTS THIS WEEK
(New York, NY) Drive-By Truckers have released a lyric video for their new song, "Filthy and Fried," the third offering from the group's soon-to-be released masterwork American Band. Long-time collaborator Wes Freed created the art for the video; lyrics appear over an animated version of the painting seen in the gatefold of the vinyl version of the new album. "We had finished recording American Band and were about to mix it when Cooley wrote 'Filthy and Fried,' and we all fell in love with the song and felt like it should be included in the album," says Patterson Hood. "That weekend, DBT was about to do our annual HeAthens Homecoming shows at the 40 Watt Club in Athens GA. We had planned on recording the shows and David Barbe had his mobile recording rig set up so we cut the song live on stage during soundcheck. Two days later we began mixing the album."
On the song's meaning, Hood explains, "We are undergoing a huge dynamic shift in male/female relationships and all of the accompanying push back. His song touches on that among many other things."
"You've come a long way baby," says Mike Cooley.  LISTEN TO "FILTHY AND FRIED" HERE On October 1, Drive-By Truckers will appear on CBS This Morning. They will be performing three songs and chatting with legendary TV host Anthony Mason. Four days later on October 5, the band will perform American Band in its entirety, live from the Oregon Public Broadcasting studios in Portland 7pm ET/4pm PT as part of NPR's First Listen Live series. Founded in 1996 by singer/songwriter/guitarists Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood, the band have long held a progressive fire in their belly, but with American Band, they have made the most explicitly political album in their extraordinary canon. A powerful and legitimately provocative work, hard edged and finely honed, the album is the sound of a truly American band - a Southern American band - speaking on matters that matter. Master songwriters both, Hood and Cooley wisely avoid overt polemics to explore such pressing issues as race, income inequality, the NRA, deregulation, police brutality, Islamophobia, and the plague of suicides and opioid abuse. As a result, songs like "What It Means" (that premiered on Rolling Stone) and the tub-thumping "Surrender Under Protest" (that premiered on NPR) are intensely human music from a rock 'n' roll band yearning for community and collective action. Fueled by a just spirit of moral indignation and righteous rage, American Band is protest music fit for the stadiums, designed to raise issues and ire as the nation careens towards its most momentous election in a generation. Hailed by Stereogum as "perhaps the greatest extant American rock and roll band," Drive-By Truckers will celebrate American Band with an epic fall headline tour, beginning September 16 at Toronto's Urban Roots Festival and ending November 19 at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA. Support on the dates will come from Lydia Loveless, Son Volt and Kyle Craft. Tour highlights include two-night-stands at Portland, OR's Wonder Ballroom (September 30 and October 1), San Francisco, CA's The Fillmore (October 6 and 7), Los Angeles, CA's Teragram Ballroom (October 11 and 12), Asheville, NC's The Orange Peel (November 4 and 5) and Richmond, VA's The National (November 10 and 11). For updates, please visit the official Drive-By Truckers tour page. "I don't want there to be any doubt as to which side of this discussion we fall on," Hood says. "I don't want there to be any misunderstanding of where we stand. If you don't like it, you can leave. It's okay. We're not trying to be everybody's favorite band, we're going to be who we are and do what we do and anyone who's with us, we'd love to have them join in." Cooley is somewhat more direct. "I wanted this to be a no bones about it, in your face political album," he says. "I wanted to piss off the assholes." Recorded late last year at Nashville's historic Sound Emporium with longtime producer/ engineer David Barbe behind the board, American Band's considerable force can in part be credited to the sheer musical strength of the current Drive-By Truckers line-up, with Hood and Cooley joined by bassist Matt Patton, keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Jay Gonzalez, and drummer Brad Morgan - together, the longest-lasting iteration in the band's two-decade history. For more information, please visit drivebytruckers.comwww.facebook.com/drivebytruckers,twitter.com/drivebytruckers (@drivebytruckers) and atorecords.com. Pre-order links:Drive-By Truckers storeiTunesAmazon DRIVE-BY TRUCKERSAMERICAN BAND TOUR - NORTH AMERICA 2016 SEPTEMBER16 - Toronto, ON - Toronto Urban Roots Festival *17 - Fredericton, NB - Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival *23 - Kansas City, MO - Crossroads @24 - Minneapolis, MN - First Avenue $25 - Sioux Falls, SD - The District $28 - Missoula, MT - The Wilma $29 - Seattle, WA - Showbox at The Market $30 - Portland, OR - Wonder Ballroom $ OCTOBER1 - Portland, OR - Wonder Ballroom $2 - Vancouver, BC - Rickshaw Theater $5 - Sacramento, CA - Ace of Spades $6-7 - San Francisco, CA - The Fillmore $8 - Lake Tahoe, CA - Montbleau Resort Casino $11-12 - Los Angeles, CA - Teragram Ballroom $13 - Solana Beach, CA - Belly Up Tavern $14 - San Luis Obispo, CA - Fremont Theater $15 - Scottsdale, AZ - Livewire $ NOVEMBER2 - Louisville, KY - Headliners Music Hall #3 - Knoxville, TN - The Mill & Mine #4-5 - Asheville, NC - The Orange Peel #9 - Philadelphia, PA - Union Transfer #10-11 - Richmond, VA - The National #12 - Charlotte, NC - The Fillmore #13 - Charleston, SC - Charleston Music Hall #15 - Ft. Today, Dusky present the trippy official music video - all shot in one take underwater. Watch the official video for "Long Wait" HERE and stream the track on Spotify HERE Outer  is set for release on October 14th via Astralwerks/17 Steps and is available for preorder  HERE . "Directing a one-take video underwater was great fun," explained director Noel Paul. We synchronized the action sonically, by banging a rock against the side of the pool underwater. Meanwhile our actor Marcos was able to hold his breath for the entire 3 minutes over and over again while his body cooled down to a scarily low temperature. There's no trickery, he really held his breath!" Embodying the melting pot of influences that Outer represents, "Long Wait" brings together cinematic strings, rave bleeps, chugging grooves and the haunting vocals of Joe Wilson from Solomon Grey in Dusky's unique style. It follows the wavey, industrial techno surge of "Sort It Out Sharon" featuring godfather of grime  Wiley, and the anthemic, 90s-nodding electronica workout "Ingrid Is A Hybrid."
A journey through the respected duo's many tastes and influences, the 11 tracks on  Outer  touch on everything from Belgian techno, UK rave and prog house to ambient, new beat and electronica, offering curveball collaborations with the legendary Gary Numan and the aforementioned Wiley along the way.             From the Orbital-referencing synth-and-strings crescendos of intro "All We Ever Needed" to the UK house meets hardcore-era Prodigy of "Runny Nose," the duo's unique capacity for inventive sampling and cleverly reshaping their halcyon influences remains as dominant as it did on their breakthrough underground club singles. Alongside the album's release, Nick and Alfie will be taking their new audio-visual live show on tour across the UK, with full headline European and North American DJ tours announced alongside. An Australia/New Zealand tour will follow in the coming months. Current dates below. Ticket links here: duskymusic.com/live.
