NICK WATERHOUSE'S FORTHCOMING ALBUM NEVER TWICE

NICK WATERHOUSE'S FORTHCOMING ALBUM  NEVER TWICEOUT SEPTEMBER 30TH ON INNOVATIVE LEISURE

Next Friday, Nick Waterhouse will return with his third full-length studio album Never TwiceNever Twice will be released via Innovative Leisure digitally, on CD and 180 gram vinyl and can be pre-ordered here. He will head out on a fall U.S. Tour starting on September 24th. Highlights include Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on October 8th, The Bottom Lounge in Chicago on October 4th and The Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington DC on October 12th. More tour dates to be announced. Never Twice features the lead single "Katchi," a duet with Leon Bridges. "Leon and I were in Fort Worth hanging out at a friend's place getting massages. He was laying on the table while I strummed the chords, bare chested, he shouted out "she give me KATCHI!"... His mother's old Louisiana Indian term for 'loving touch'. We rode it out and next thing we know we had a straight cruiser," Waterhouse told The Fader.

With Never Twice, Nick Waterhouse returned to his original collaborator, producer Michael McHugh (Black Lips, Ty Segall, Allah-Las). McHugh was a local legend in the oft-underrated Orange County music scene that Nick grew up in. McHugh was the first person to ever put Nick on tape and in an effort to re-capture the vibrancy of the Huntington Beach scene of Nick's youth, he invited McHugh up to his current home of San Francisco to work the boards once again. Once he had McHugh on board, Nick began cold-calling his favorite players, all of whom miraculously said yes. Jazz musician Bob Kenmotsu's contributed flute, Tom Waits and Elvis Costello collaborator Ralph Carney on sax, Dr. Lonnie Smith protege Will Blades on Organ and a virtual whose who of muso legends on horns, bass and guitar. The result is an exuberant and impeccably recorded album of songs, showcasing Waterhouse's prowess as a musician and a band-leader.
PRAISE FOR NICK WATERHOUSE
"The verses are built on the feet-shuffling groove of jazzy drums and keys as Waterhouse bewails his life's stagnation ... He refuses to sit still for long, however, as the funky refrain kicks everything into fifth gear with driving guitar riffs that bring to mind classic rhythm and blues bandstands, all decked in golds and blacks and blues." - Consequence of Sound
"Swoony vocals that recall jazz singers like Cab Calloway and Jack Jones, Waterhouse has been hailed as the second coming of soul, infusing a distinctly California surf-rock spin to the genre.'- VOGUE"Waterhouse's show of intensity arrived through an incendiary combo of momentum-building saxophones...riding a grand, Spector-esque wave, punctuated with start-and-stop pacing, a love of musical space and Waterhouse's utilitarian voice singing structured three-minute rockers." - Los Angeles Times
"Waterhouse straddles the line between rock grit and smooth, sultry R&B. It's sexy, it's smart, and it's definitely worth another round in a bar in the middle of a dark and stormy night."- Esquire

Lowly Debut Video For "Deer Eyes" On Brooklyn Vegan

Lowly Share Video For “Deer Eyes” On Brooklyn Vegan Debut LP Coming Next Year On Bella UnionPhoto credit: Anna Jarmolovicz    Following the release of their breakout EP  Sink Way Into Me  on Bella Union and ahead of a forthcoming debut album due for release early next year, hotly-tipped Danish quintet LOWLY have unveiled the mesmerizing new video for track “Deer Eyes”. You can watch the video  here.  The track—four compact minutes of uniquely sensual, rhythmic dream pop—shines a bright light on the inventive orchestrations and resonant soprano vocals that render Lowly so captivating and standalone in their musicianship.
Directed by Danish video artist Alice Topsøe, the video is a depiction of human beings and their connection—or rather—disconnection, from their physical appearance. Of the video Lowly comment: “Alice is an artist who explores queerness and body-image regardless of gender, which we thought was relevant to the theme of the song and also for the times we live in. The song is about a person who is falling apart in a very physical way, and we feel that Alice has animated the genderless figures in such a way that they both carry confidence but also a fragility as they stretch out and melt away.”
As remarkable as their music is, Lowly only came together as a band in 2014, having met at the musical academy in Aarhus, Denmark. Despite all five members being involved in different studies, and having their own pre-existing endeavors, Nanna Schannong (lead vocals, guitar), Soffie Viemose (lead vocals, laptop), Kasper Staub (synthesisers), Thomas Lund (bass, Moog) and Steffen Lundtoft (drums, percussion) soon found common musical ground; a restlessly inventive and exquisitely melodic sound that refutes easy categorization.
The band themselves call it “noise-pop, and everything in between”. In this case ‘noise’, explains Kasper Staub, refers to the textures and treatments via laptop and guitar. This gives Lowly songs unpredictable, shape-shifting qualities (brilliantly layered by the band and co-producer Anders Boll, Efterklang’s long-trusted engineer/soundman), though a core of wistful melancholy remains, further intensified by the enigmatic lyrics.
“We think of our music and lyrics more like a painting, we think it should all melt together,” says Staub. “We’re all interested in developing ourselves as songwriters, and working in new ways, with different ideas.”Vacillating between vintage and modern, emotion and energy and heart and soul, Lowly are a fresh band breathing a timeless life into the modern realm of indie music. This early on, it suggests that the potential for this standout act is limitless.

The Gotobeds Cold November Rain Tour (select dates w/ Protomartyr)

The Gotobeds’ Cold November Rain Tour

The Gotobeds announce new US tour dates in support of their 2016 album Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic

Select dates with Protomartyr (November 2nd-12th)

http://u.subpop.com/1PguiG5
This November, The Gotobeds will leave the warm comfort of their homes in Pittsburgh, PA to tour across North America and back again in support of their 2016 Sub Pop album, Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic. The Cold November Rain Tour begins on November 2nd in Chicago, IL, with stops in Little Rock, Los Angeles, Seattle, and several other cities, finally ending November 21st in Milwaukee, WI. For the first eight of these shows, The Gotobeds will be accompanied by their close, personal friends in the very good band Protomartyr. In the bio for Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic (a bio, we should note, he was paid handsomely to write), Protomartyr’s Joe Casey offered the following endorsement of The Gotobeds’ live performances: “...the band's live show is a testament to the cathartic nature of speed, skill, repetition, noise, and red stage lights.” And, The Gotobeds’ singer/guitarist Eli Kasan had this to say about the upcoming tour:

“The last time these two giants of rock met resulted in a near arrest for whatever you would call ‘intoxicated on psychedelic mushrooms, in a hotel, while watching sports bloopers at 5am.’ This time it's PERSONAL, Best Western.”

Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic features “Real Maths/Too Much,” “Brass Not Rash,” “Bodies,” “Cold Gold (LA’s Alright),” and several other arguably excellent songs, and is available now for purchase on CD/LP/DL/CS worldwide from Sub Pop Records [link here].

The album is the follow-up to their 2014 debut, Poor People Are Revolting (12XU).

More on The Gotobeds:
Hey, what's this? Well that, my friend, is the newest album from The Gotobeds, entitled Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic. It's their second full-length LP and their first for Sub Pop. Whoa, whoa, please slow down. I'm already completely lost. What you just said sounded like a stream of complete gibberish. Okay, I'll lay it out for you and if you have any questions could you yell them at me? SOUNDS GOOD. The Gotobeds formed vaguely around 2009 in Pittsburgh and play a mutant strain of rock music that is often filed under punk, indie rock, or 99-cent discount bin. WAIT, THE GOTOBEDS? I HEARD THEY WERE KNUCKLEHEADS! Only if the knuckle is the part of the human body that contains the brains. Much like their previous releases on underground stalwart labels like Mind Cure and 12XU, this new album artfully slips intelligence and experimentation into a dying art form. It's a harder feat than you'd think [read more at Sub Pop].

What people are saying about the Gotobeds:
“It’s hard not to be drawn in by the album’s hooky post-punk song structures, which showcase wiry guitar lines and bombastic, free-for-all shouts.” [Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic] -  SPIN.com

“Playing the kind of educated punk that Dead Kennedys and The Dead Boys helped push overground, their forthcoming Sub Pop record ‘Blood // Sugar // Secs // Traffic’ is an enthralling, engaging listen. Singer/guitarist, Eli Kasan’s delivery is half-spoken, half sung, but always with a keen sense of ‘kiss this’ nihilism in his tight-chested proclamations. He may snarl, but he's never cartoon punk.” -  NME

“Plenty of shout-a-long choruses and big hooks, drawing on an encyclopedic knowledge of punk,post-punk and indie rock riffage.” - Brooklyn Vegan

"The Gotobeds play terse, Wire-style post-punk riffage with the same beery DIY abandon that, say, Diarrhea Planet bring to their AC/DC homages."-  Stereogum

"...A catchy post-punk gem that dips in and out of its own melody when it damn well sees fit." [“Brass Not Rash”] -  Noisey

Twin Limb Announces Album, Tour with Jim James + Releases Track

Twin Limb Announce New Album
Haplo  Out October 28
New Video For “ The Weather ” Out Today via  Stereogum

U.S. Tour Dates with Jim James Announced

Louisville’s Twin Limb have announced their first full-length album  Haplo  today, out October 28 via Suretone Records. A gentle dive into an unconscious realm, the album goes in search of deeper, darker places where we all ultimately connect. The band consists of Lacey Guthrieon accordion, keys, and vocals, Maryliz Bender on drums, percussion, and vocals, and Kevin Ratterman— a veteran musician who has engineered and produced records for artists such asRay LamontagneAndrew Bird, and Jim James from My Morning Jacket— on guitar and sampled sounds. The first single “ The Weather ” premiered today with a kaleidoscopic, mind-bending video via  Stereogum . Twin Limb will be out on the road with Jim James this fall on a U.S. tour, acting not only as his opening act but also his backup band.

“The Weather” music video is as psychedelic and artful as the band’s musical presence, with images of neon lights and rainbow reflections that create a trippy, chromatic experience for the viewer. The band says of the video:

“The Weather was written when we were going through some big life changes and addresses internal restlessness in contrast with the external world. Our video producer, W.G. Rickel, captured these memories and thoughts with the illuminated scanner that he built for the purpose of shooting the video. He was able to create a surreal landscape that we interacted with while shooting, there are no digital visual effects.”

Twin Limb is selfdescribed as “dream pop”— only in their variation, it’s a dream pop that combines the “pop” of Warhol’s Chelsea Girls with the jagged dream states of Surrealism. Disquieting, emotively loaded, boldly defined yet wide open to interpretation, Haplo is more like the musical equivalent of the paintings or automatic poetry of the early Surrealists. Its darker elements delivered with a markedly pop ease, Haplo is lustrous and immensely playonrepeatable, though everywhere filled with the pangs and rumbles of an unsettled subconscious.
Twin Limb will be joining Jim James on his solo tour this fall. A full list of tour dates are below and tickets are available  here . Presale for Haplo beings September 30.

Honeyblood Premiere Single "Sea Hearts"

HONEYBLOOD PREMIERE "SEA HEARTS"
WORLD TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

BABES NEVER DIE  OUT ON FATCAT RECORDS OCTOBER 28TH Photo Credit: Amira FritzStream/Share "Sea Hearts"
Following the success of thunderous comeback single "Ready For The Magic", and with anticipation mounting around the release of their new album  Babes Never Die  later this year, Honeyblood unleash one of the LP's many stand-out tracks, the dangerously addictive "Sea Hearts." Maintaining their flair for relentless hooks and infectious pop-punk energy it's a track that is sure to become instant favourite amidst the Glasgow duo's rapidly growing fanbase and turbo-charge their already heady ascendance. Noisey premiered the track today and noted, "It's fuzzed up, 90s-indebted indie rock that'll make you wanna mosh and destroy stuff and do shots and headbang and run real fast and ride your bike with your hands nowhere near the handlebars."
For Honeyblood frontwoman Stina Tweeddale, the title of her band's second album came from somewhere close to her heart, literally. "I have those words tattooed on my ribs." she smiles. "I guess you could call it a war cry; to have the faith to never let yourself be defeated."  Babes Never Die  is not a shy motto, and one that's triumphant sentiment rings throughout Honeyblood's exceptional sophomore record. "The title is my own mantra, Stina explains of the follow-up to their eponymous 2014 debut, which landed in many of the year's most respected Best Of lists, with perfect score reviews from everyone from NME to DIY. "I think it's something I tell myself every day. Indifference is a plague. Giving up and turning a blind eye will be the end of us. Never before has that been more true than now. Perhaps we should stare straight into the face of what frightens us and say that we will never let them win. When I use the word 'Babe' I don't see it as gendered. I just wanted to share the phrase and the power it gives me. Saying that, like most Honeyblood lyrics, it is vaguely facetious."
From the thundering intro bars of the opening title track it's clear it's an album that's bite will live up to is bark. It's an album that feels like it's on a mission. One that won't let go. But if the Glasgow band - Stina, alongside drummer Cat Myers - have created anything of a signature atmosphere, its one that's as playful as it is impassioned. Over Babes...' 11 tales of drama, horror, lust and laughs, never has that been more true. "There's a strong narrative theme that runs throughout the record, a sort of chaotic empowerment," she explains. "I wrote songs with real characters, more like stories. There's a dark undertone throughout. I wanted gruesome romance stories rather than whiney love songs."
Recorded during several candle-burning stints at London's Fish Factory studio in the winter of 2016, Stina and Cat were joined by acclaimed producer James Dring, whose work with the likes of Jamie T and Gorillaz made him an intriguing choice for the Scottish duo. Make no mistake, 'Babes...' doesn't sound like anyone else but Honeyblood. The urgent lo-fi charm that defined their debut still pulses from its core. The band that burst forth from Glasgow's DIY underground scene just a few years ago, recording cassette tape releases in their bathrooms and hosting ad-hoc parties in disused hairdressers is still in tact, and the clatter of songs like 'Justine, Misery Queen' will play testament to that. But the evolution that's taken place is undeniable. 'Babes...' feels tightly-woven, with a honed sense of drive and focus. An epically road-tested band and a certain production finesse create a formidable combination. 'Love Is A Disease' has a sophistication that feels like it could belong only on this record, with stalking beats, snaking melodies, punishing choruses, and juddering guitar swells that feel reminiscent of Blur's Graham Coxon in his prime. "As a band it's not often that you meet someone you can tell instantly 'gets it'," Stina recalls of their trips down to meet Dring in North London. "He comes from a different place musically to anyone we've worked with before, which felt quite inspiring. He really listened to what we wanted to achieve, knew how to get the best out of us, and when he did bring in ideas they were things we'd never have thought of. " Together they've managed to brilliantly capture then subtly refine and embellish the duo's notorious live energy that over the past two years shared stages all round the globe with everyone from Belle And Sebastian and Foo Fighters to close comrades like Courtney Barnett and Wolf Alice, a regime that's bound to leave an impression.
Those that have enjoyed Honeyblood's more punk-rock moments to date will be pleased to here that they've made a more high-octane album than many might have anticipated. Stand-outs like giddy pop-punk belter and new single 'Sea Hearts' are some of their most intense tracks to date. 'RFTM' deserves a special mention as a remarkable introduction to HB 2.0; detuned doom riffage and disco-punk rhythms make space for a tornado of a chorus ode to "the explosive nature of infatuation". Cat's first full-length foray with the band is something of a revelation, imbuing the sound with a vital and versatile new rhythmic flair and creativity. Now Honeyblood's rhythms do much more than hold the beat. Cat's drums are as musical as any instrument on the album, showcased on tracks like 'Gangs' and 'Hey, Stellar' where her off-beat distinct grooves underpin a gorgeously swooning chorus topline. "When Cat joined the band Honeyblood's sound instantly developed," Stina remembers of the instant influence of her whirlwind drummer who replaced Shona McVicar in 2015. "Then as I started coming up with ideas for songs, it was to play to our strengths as this new duo." 'Walking At Midnight' is new territory for the band, a piece of nocturnal mid-pace pop melodrama that gives some respite from an otherwise frantic record. 'Cruel' is cut from a more classic cloth, a swoonsome ballad; it's one of the rare displays on the album of the rootsy musical lineage that Stina grew up in. Always a natural chorus-sculptor even in her band's most discordant and ramshackle moments, Stina's songwriting truly has found a bright new spotlight on her band's second outing. 'Babes'...' is resplendent in the kind of effortless chant-a-long hooks that one by one will all soon become their own mantras. For a while now Honeyblood have been talked about as one of the most exciting new UK bands, but with Babes Never Die you just get the feeling that before long they'll be simply be known as one of the most exciting bands around, period.

Young Romance announce debut album and share new single

Young RomanceDebut album ‘Another's Blood’ out Novvia Banquet Records
Listen to ‘Disappear’ HERE
[image error]
"Mary Chain guitars collide beneath Claire's vocals recalling Kate Bush in her heyday. This is a band that don't just have the sound, they have the songs to match too." – NME Magazine
"A towering blaze of weighty drums and smouldering, grunge-tinged guitar." – The Line Of Best Fit
London-based duo Young Romance are pleased to announce the release of their long-awaited debut album, ‘Another's Blood’, out on Banquet Records in November.
‘Another's Blood’ is a beautifully constructed 10-track epic that merges the powerful vocals of Claire Heywood and raw garage guitars of Paolo Ruiu to create something truly unique. While setting a dark tone throughout with their new wave inspired songwriting, anthemic choruses and vocal hooks will draw you in immediately and stay with you long after first listen.
Doubling up as drummer, Heywood fronts Young Romance impressively while guitars are allowed to wash over her, creating walls of feedback and riffs. Taking their cues as much from the likes of Ride and Blondie as they do modern contemporaries such as CHVRCHES, these guys are doing something fresh, in a fiercely independent way.
“We made the album ourselves” they tell us, “It has been quite a DIY effort. We felt that we had reached a point after working with different producers that we knew what we wanted to make musically. We experimented with different recording techniques through tape machines and various different distortion and echo effects units to help enhance the sound. We’ve fought very hard to create the music that we want and believe in, rather than what would appeal to a mass audience. We’re not sure that we fit into any specific genre but I don’t think you really have to anymore.”
After early shows supporting Mystery Jets, Slow Club and Summer CampYoung Romance self-released their debut 7" 'Pale' via the Banquet Records imprint, and after a run of shows including Dot to Dot festival and Club NME at KOKO, they went on to release their 10” 'Wild EP' which was produced by Simon “Barney” Barnicott who has previously worked with the Arctic Monkeys, Peace, Suede and Bombay Bicycle Club.
The first single to be taken from the EP received praise from the likes of Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), John Kennedy(XFM) and BBC Introducing. The band then toured Europe with shows in Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Austria in March 2015. May 2015 saw Young Romance perform on the BBC Introducing stage at The Great Escape Festival, embarking on a headline tour as well as playing New York Popfest, supporting The Wedding Present and The Primitives before recording their debut album.

After a length of time on the road with the likes of Future Islands, New Pornographers and more, the band's sound evolved from an analog post-punk project to a more live, organic sound with Boeckner finding himself often strapped back into his guitar.  After sharing the album's first single, "Cold Light", which has over 1.2 million streams on Spotify, the band released their icy soul/kraut rock jam title track, " Blue Wave". Listen to it here. Recently, "Cold Light" saw early add support from KEXP (Seattle, WA).  The latest offering from Blue Wave is "Control" (Single), out October 7th.

LEONARD COHEN’S "YOU WANT IT DARKER" AVAILABLE OCTOBER 21

LEONARD COHEN’S YOU WANT IT DARKER
AVAILABLE OCTOBER 21

ALBUM PRE-ORDER AVAILABLE  TODAY
INCLUDING SINGLE “YOU WANT IT DARKER”LISTEN TO SINGLE “YOU WANT IT DARKER”  HERE Columbia Records celebrates Leonard Cohen’s 82nd birthday today with the announcement that his 14th studio album,  YOU WANT IT DARKER , arrives in stores on October 21, 2016. The new collection of startling songs was produced by his son Adam Cohen and is available for pre-order now.

The first single and title track, which delves into an unflinching exploration of the religious mind, arrives everywhere today. Cohen created this hypnotic groove with the addition of Montreal’s Cantor Gideon Zelermyer and the Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue Choir, whose voices invoke a sound from Cohen’s youth.

YOU WANT IT DARKER  TRACKLISTING:

1. “You Want It Darker”
Hypnotic groove. The surprise of a great synagogue choir.  An unflinching exploration of the religious mind.
“Didn’t know I had permission to murder and to maim.”

2.  “Treaty”
One of Cohen’s signature melodies. A confession of the selfishness of love and the hope of a correction.
“Only one of us was real—and that was me.”
3.  “On the Level”
An old man’s take on desire.
“I was fighting with temptation, but I didn’t want to win”
4.   “Leaving the Table”
A slow, relentless, and somehow joyous ballad of letting it all go by. A guitar solo you will remember.
“I'm leaving the table, I'm out of the game.”
5.   “If I Didn’t Have Your Love”
A classic Cohen love song: the deep gratitude felt by one heart opening to another.
"That's how broken it would be,
what the world would seem to me,
if I didn't have your love to make it real.”
6.  “Traveling Light”
A seeker hits the road and finds the joys of solitude.
“I’m traveling light
It’s au revoir
My once so bright
My fallen star”
7.  “It Seemed the Better Way”
The feeling of a prayer that’s been there forever, but the spiritual comforts of the past no longer available.
“Lift this glass of blood, try to say the grace.”
8.  “Steer Your Way”
A song of courage as the heart moves into the darkness.
“Steer your heart past the pain that is far more real than you.”
9. String Reprise/Treaty
A brilliant reimagining of “Treaty” as a string quartet; a truly glorious moment ending with a few words from Leonard himself.
“I wish there was a treaty we could sign.”

This great artist continues to astonish us. Uncompromising and urgent,  YOU WANT IT DARKER  is the latest chapter in Leonard’s significant contribution to contemporary music and thought.

The Tins Premiere Single "Friday Afternoon," Announce North American Tour

THE TINS PREMIERE SINGLE "FRIDAY AFTERNOON"
ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Stream/Share "Friday Afternoon"
With influences ranging from Talking Heads to Tame Impala, The Tins craft masterfully layered jams that  USA Today  call "brilliant pop exuberance." Today, the band releases new single "Friday Afternoon" via Yellow Year Records.  IMPOSE  premiered "Friday Afternoon" and noted "We know it's not Friday, but this is a song to enjoy any day of the week. The composition of the song itself just gives off a carefree feeling...The song is replete with sweet, innocent vocals, and we can't help but feel like it's time to make weekend plans."
"Friday Afternoon" is a song inspired by an unfortunate event that happened to someone very close to guitarist Adam Stanley, its contagious merging of electronic and acoustic elements create a groove that belies its bittersweet lyrics, which describes the lengths that people will go to in order to escape from the mundanity of their everyday life.  Stanley says, "While some find their outlet in genial pursuits, others rely on less savory solutions, costing them in ways they never expected." The single cover art was created by Wes Tyrell, internationally renowned artist and president of the Association of Canadian Cartoonists.
Hailing from Buffalo NY, the trio has already released a number of records. The Tins' first single, "The Green Room," was chosen by Spotify creator Sean Parker as a staple of his Hipster International Playlist, and tapped as Spotify Staff Picks #2 Song of the Year. Since that point  on, the Tins have worked with producers Joe Blaney (Modest Mouse, Prince, The Clash) and Ted Young (Kurt Vile, The Gaslight Anthem) and have garnered millions of plays online. The Tins are currently in rotation on SiriusXM Radio and have been licensed to several hit TV shows including Beverly Hills 90210 and Roadtrip Nation.
The Tins will set off on a North American tour next month that will see them play NYC,BostonPhiladelphiaToronto and more. See below for a full itinerary and watch this space for more news on The Tins.
