Direct support for The Garden
October 9th - November 4th

neo  available worldwide from Sub Pop
So Pitted have premiered an official video for “woe,” from neo, their Sub Pop debut with Brooklyn Vegan. “woe” was shot in Seattle and directed by the Fabulous Downey Brothers.

Brooklyn Vegan says of the new visual, “Featuring some out-there animation and green-screen antics, it’s a hyperreal match to So Pitted’s melted noise (see premiere September 19th).”

So Pitted have also scheduled a fall tour in support of neo, acting as direct support for The Garden. The trek begins October 9th in Reno, NV at Holland Project and ends November 4th in Santa Barbara, CA at Velvet Jones. Please find a complete list of tour dates below.

So Pitted recently visited 90.3 KEXP for a live performance. Watch the session, which includesneo highlights “cat scratch,” “pay attention to me,” “woe,” as well as a new track titled “no name #4.” [link here]. You can also watch the band’s recent (+very official) video for “feed me” [link here]. The humorous visual, directed by Eleanor Petry, is loosely inspired by Jane Child’s late 80s pop classic (+ video) “Don’t Wanna Fall In Love.”

So Pitted’s neo is now available on CD / LP / DL / CASS worldwide from Sub Pop [link here]. The album was co-produced & mixed by So Pitted & Dylan Wall and recorded at The Old Fire House, Media Lab, Spruce Haus, the band’s practice space and Tastefully Loud in Seattle. neo was also engineered by Wall at Tastefully Loud and mastered by Eric Boulanger at The Bakery in Los Angeles.

What people have said about So Pitted:
"Minimalist force is what Seattle punk band So Pitted does. They excel at it. On neo, their debut, the trio sound like the proverbial (mechanical) bull in a china shop—except that bull is intentionally there to fuck up some fine dinnerware and is determined to have a hell of a time doing it."  -  Pitchfork

“Catharsis and candor are embedded in these explosive tracks. So Pitted tap into the void that the likes of Black Flag and Nirvana looked into and saw themselves in.” -  Consequence of Sound

“It’s grimy and tormented all right, but intent on subverting the many adolescent cliches and
connotations that come with grunge.” -   The Guardian

“Maddeningly loud, loosely formed, disgusting like a romantic weekend trip down the local sewers.” -  DIY

“Like an 80s DC hardcore band covering a forlorn Sebadoh demo (until it descends nihilistically into its final minute of diehard industrial static).” -  The Quietus

“Their primal, scrappy rock and roll scrapes all optimism from your soul until you just don’t care about anything anymore.” [8/10]  - Drowned In Sound

“…A barbed tarpit of sound.” -  Loud & Quiet

“Snotty, snarling and belligerent.” -  Uncut

neo is part debut-album, part audio assault.” [4/5] -  Upset

“It’s early in the year to make this sort of claim, but we can say with confidence that in ten months’ time you’ll be looking back on neo as one of 2016’s best debuts, by some distance." -  The Skinny

“...A raucous, inspiring noise, the buzzsaw melody is matched to wailing feedback - imagine Bikini Kill set against early Mary Chain and you'd probably be in the same ballpark.” -  Clash

“Quite simply, neo is noise rock like nothing else.” -  London In Stereo

“...making a name for themselves with a sneery, warped, post-apocalyptic punk sound and wild stage show.” -  Brooklyn Vegan

“…Buzzing with nausea and excitement. [rot in hell] burns with the urgency of the music you need to make or you’llcrumple, music you’d be making whether other people heard it or not.” -  Impose

“So Pitted are poised to start a riot that’s very much their own.” - Record Collector

“The triad has haunted Seattle’s DIY underground since 2010, sometimes playing three shows a week (seeminglyre-dying their hair a different color for each), honing an incredibly loud, atonal style of neo-grunge, equal parts confusing and enthralling. Koewler plays her guitar through a bass amp to achieve the band’s defining metallic low-end scuzz. Rodriguez, plucking out chaotic leads on his heavily effected guitar, barks unintelligibly feral screeds into a microphone so hard that his veins often look as though they’ll pop. Downey usually performs with self-fashioned pipe-cleaner antennae sticking out from his head. He occasionally switches places with Rodriguez to mumble his own strange songs, a left-field take on ’80s New Wave filtered through a filthy meat grinder.”  -  Seattle Weekly

“Boldly going where no rock band has gone before—and fucking around a bit, too.” [“Breaking” feature] -  FLOOD

JOHN FOXX's seminal ambient classic 'Cathedral Oceans': deluxe 5 vinyl book set

John FoxxThe Complete Cathedral Oceans5 vinyl LPs in album-style deluxe 12 X 12 book setEdsel recordsSeptember 30th 2016
“Cathedral Oceans is almost a full mass. It’s so beautiful it reduced me to tears” Harold Budd
“This is some of the most inspired, absorbing and transporting music ever made, and you’d do well to get it in your life” FACT
“A masterpiece” Record Collector *****
“A beautiful, beatless, Eno-esque encounter that'll ascend into the upper reaches of your soul. A small slice of genuine spirituality for an all too cynical world” DJ
“It's music for a vast, half-submerged cathedral. Walls overgrown. Music that moves quietly through walls, almost imperceptible unless you focus on it. Slowly but constantly changing” John Foxx

On September 30th Edsel records are pleased to be releasing The Complete Cathedral Oceans - all three editions of John Foxx’s seminal ambient masterpiece.
This marks the first ever vinyl release for the beautiful, elegant trilogy of Cathedral Oceans (1997), Cathedral Oceans II (2003) and Cathedral Oceans III (2005). The music is spread over five 12”s and is accompanied by 12 X 12” art print and a book containing Foxx’s stunning images and passages from his novel The Quiet Man, all of which is encased in a deluxe hardback book set. Every copy of this limited edition run of 750 is hand numbered.
First as the original frontman of Ultravox and subsequently as a feted solo artist, John Foxx is one of the most eminent exponents of electronic and ambient music. Aphex Twin, Gary Numan, Juan Atkins, The Orb, Junior Boys, Vincent Gallo, Simple Minds, Clint Mansell, Duran Duran, LoneLady and Gazelle Twin have all cited Foxx as a big influence. The avant-garde pianist Harold Budd attended a performance of Cathedral Oceans several years ago and was so moved by it that he collaborated with Foxx on two albums (Translucence and Drift Music.)
Cathedral Oceans is a project whose recording began in 1983, but the gestation period was even longer. “Cathedral Oceans started when I was kid, when I sang in a choir briefly,” Foxx told FACT. “During that time I became very interested in the way that sound worked in big spaces, churches particularly. I learned a lot of things there but I didn’t understand a lot of what I’d actually learned until later. And when I started recording I’d almost forgotten about all that until I started using echoes and reverberations, and then I realised that I could use some of that to simulate things that happened when I was singing in churches back then, and use that old knowledge of how a single voice in a massive space behaves. It really inspired the juxtaposition of old style church music with modern technology and synthesizers creating notional space, rather than real space.”
In addition to Foxx’s use of studio tech as “a cathedral in a suitcase”, the sounds were originally accompanied by photographs of buildings, statues and foliage that John started taking as far back as his time touring with Ultravox. These images were then manipulated and overlaid as videos that slowly morph into each other, gradually unfolding with the music to create the effect of a “moving stained glass window that you can sit and look at for hours.”
Alongside Shifting City - released on the same day – the first Cathedral Oceans marked Foxx's return to music after an absence of seven years. It was also his first solo album since 1985's In Mysterious Ways.[image error]

TOY Share Video For "I'm Still Believing" || "Clear Shot" Out October 28th On Heavenly Recordings

TOY Share Video For “I’m Still Believing” Clear Shot LP Out October 28th on Heavenly RecordingsPhoto credit: Steve Gullick
TOY have shared the new video to ‘I’m Still Believing’, the first single from their forthcoming new album Clear Shot, due for release on Friday 28th October on Heavenly Recordings.
The director, London-based filmmaker Bunny Kinney, envisioned a video aesthetic resembling an old stumbled-upon VHS tape that had been recorded over numerous times, complete with snippets strange programs and advertisements left behind from previous owners that flicker and fade in and out of the footage of the band performing.
The track itself captures the essence of the band’s penchant for multifaceted arrangements; chiming guitars skirted by elevating snyth are soon opened into more pop-tinged territory, during bright choruses framing frontman Tom Dougall’s introspective narrative.
Capped with a signature, elongated break pairing the striking and intricate guitars of Dougall and Dominic O’Dair and the ever-captivating bass of Maxim Barron – the song is a statement from a group still evolving, three records in and able to pull from a wealth of musicianship and experience. The album was recorded with producer David Wrench towards the end of 2015 at Eve Studio.
The band have also recently unveiled Fast Silver, the first track to be taken from the album.Splitting their time between Tom Dougall and bassist Maxim Barron’s place in New Cross and Dominic O’Dair’s flat in Walthamstow, where they set up a makeshift studio and laid down the early album demos, Clear Shot began to take shape in the first half of 2015.
Taking inspiration from an esoteric blend – Radiophonic Workshop, Comus, the scores of Bernard Herrmann, John Barry and Ennio Morricone Fairport, COUM, Acid House, Incredible String Band, The Langley Schools Project, The Wicker Man soundtrack and even the direction behind Electric Eden, Rob Young’s book about the development of folk music in the U.K. – by the time they entered Eve Studios in Stockport in October 2015 with producer David Wrench, the band were clear about the direction the album should take.
The result is their most coherent and confident album to date; lushly cinematic, shot through with their most expressive melodies thus far and coated with a ‘sheen’ courtesy of Chris Coady (Beach House, Smith Westerns, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), who mixed the album in LA with some of the reverbs and vocal processors used on Purple Rain, across the 10-tracks strands of ideas appear, sink and re-emerge in an almost modal jazz manner. Clear Shot sees TOY working both in bigger colours and more minutely crafted detail, achieving an altogether higher level of artistry than before.
TOY previously released their self-titled debut in 2012 and cemented their reputation as the best alternative rock band in the country with Join the Dots at the end of 2013. Such was the reception to Join The Dots that TOY toured their second record for nigh-on two years, culminating in their biggest London show yet at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in April 2014.
TOY are: Tom Dougall (vocals / guitar), Dominic O’Dair (guitars), Maxim Barron (bass / vocals), Max Claps (synths / modulations) & Charlie Salvidge (drums / vocals).

Preoccupations Self-Titled Album Out Today

PREOCCUPATIONS SELF-TITLED ALBUM OUT TODAY ON JAGJAGUWARClick Here To Download or Stream Preoccupations
Acclaim for Preoccupations:
"While far from a feel-good summer jam, "Anxiety" is a little closer to the hazy, lo-fi meditations of 2010's Public Strain than the creeping nausea of 2015's Viet Cong.... "Anxiety" is surprisingly relaxed and well-adjusted. "I'm not here purely for the sake of breathing," he vows, "I am wide awake." And just like that, Preoccupations have written their own mantra." Pitchfork, Best New Track

"Unlike its predecessor, Preoccupations was crafted with less pressure and more time. While there's still plenty of motorik drive, there are more synth-y flavors, such as the record's magnum opus, the three-movement suite "Memory," which includes a soaring guest appearance from Dan Boeckner...a shimmering, New Order-esque midsection and a hypnotic, ambient coda."  Billboard

" They've created a startling document of anxiety and mental exhaustion. It's beautiful art, and hopefully it's a next step toward the peace so sought after throughout the record."  Consequence of Sound

"There is a stout cohesiveness that gives Preoccupations a feeling of completion and resolute artistic confidence and its reverberations mount with close and repeated listens."  Under the Radar
"Preoccupations kicks off the record with an ominous surge in "Anxiety," setting a tone that builds and never lets up for the span of this exhilarating album. The things that first drew me to Viet Cong's self-titled 2015 debut are still here, but this album shows vast growth and advancement from there, especially lyrically." Patterson Hood of Drive By Truckers for The Talkhouse

"Preoccupations makes strides to shore up Preoccupations' identity without losing the crucial spontaneity of their debut."  Pop Matters
"Preoccupations put out one of the best albums of last year under the name Viet Cong, and sadly, sometimes it felt like the controversy around their band name was talked about more than the music itself. Now they're back with their first album since ditching the Viet Cong moniker, and it's clear from the music itself that this band still deserves to be heard."  Brooklyn Vegan

"The new album continues along the same path as Viet Cong, juxtaposing pop hooks with eerie, gothic accents and a distorted yet danceable aesthetic. It's a heavy album made accessible through many moments of melodic levity. Maintaining that progress from their previous album and being able to build upon something they had already created only made their pivot toward a new identity all the more delicate."  FLOOD Magazine

"The darkness is all very real, ladies and gentlemen; anxiety approaches and monotony kills. But with rhythms this punishing and hooks that slowly reveal themselves like the ones here, maybe the darkness isn't all bad.."  Pretty Much Amazing

"With Preoccupations putting their past name of Viet Cong behind them while holding onto their wicked sound, "Degraded" is a foreboding track spliced together with hissing synth and dark guitars."  Paste Magazine

"With their controversial original band name behind them, Preoccupations (formerly Viet Cong) are endeavoring to move forward with new music. Their latest is "Degraded," a super-dark slice of post-punk animated by wheezing synthesizers and tightly wound guitar riffs."  SPIN

"Viet Cong are proving a name change doesn't change a good sound. The post-punk quartet are rallying behind their sophomore self-titled album with their new moniker, Preoccupations, speaking for itself. On "Degraded," they dive into the vintage post-punk sound, striking similarities to Joy Division and other icons. It's the perfect song to help you get through the week."  Nerdist

""Anxiety" is the first single, and it's proof the band's new identity isn't going to be accompanied by some grand musical shift. They're still expert purveyors of jittery, groaning guitar music."  The Verge

"By the end of the album, Preoccupations had me in its grip again, humming along to "Fever." It's the album as prescription, and it's just what alternative music needed in these mostly boring-sounding times."  The Advocate

"The strengths of Preoccupation's debut album are all here: interesting twists and turns that keep the listener guessing, bleak gazes through a modern miasma of depression and ennui, and a unique and solid musical vision to bring out these melancholy emotions in a calculated and thoughtful form."  Northern Transmissions

"Preoccupations aren't exactly miserablists, but the constant malaise that hangs over the album works in its favor. Where their previous album was more brazen in its use of noise and heavy sounds in the pursuit of leaving a heavier impact, this one reveals beauty within the haze."  Treblezine

"With their new album set for release next week, Preoccupations are ramping things up with latest single "Memory." The track is an absolute epic, leading listeners on a journey through post-punk soundscapes that twists and turns through 80s influences, with haunting guitar riffs and mesmerizing vocals from featured artist Dan Boeckner." Indie Shuffle

Following their biggest UK arena tour to date, a Spring U.S. tour with Cage The Elephant, dates with Silversun Pickups, and various appearances on the summer festival circuit including headlining performances at Reading and Leeds Festivals, Foals return to North America next week for a headlining tour to kick off on September 23rd in Seattle. Click HERE to see a trailer for the upcoming tour and see below for a complete list of dates or click  HERE .

Foals most recent album What Went Down was released in August of 2015 on Warner Bros. Records and emerged to the best reviews of the band's career as it debuted at #3 and commanded a Top 20 chart position for four weeks in the UK. The album also produced the band's first Number 1 at Alternative Radio with "Mountain at My Gates". Shortly after the album's release, the band won 'Best Act In The World' at the Q Awards and received a BBC Music Award Nomination for 'British Artist of the Year'. Foals was also nominated for four awards at the 2016 NME Awards: 'Best British Band', "Best Live Band', 'Best Album', and 'Best Track'. What Went Down is an album that grapples with questions that are a world away from the bland bleatings of homogenized pop: permanence and impermanence; life and death; solitude; vulnerability; intimacy; passion; rage; humanity - weighty issues that make demands of the people creating that music, and of all those who listen to it, too. Sonically, it's an album that precariously seesaws between primal aggression and naked vulnerability. To purchase What Went Down, click HERE. Foals consists of Yannis Philippakis (vocals/guitar), Jimmy Smith (guitar/keys), Walter Gervers (bass/vocals), Jack Bevan (drums) and Edwin Congreave (keys).  23 September | Seattle, WA | Paramount Theater *

The Limiñanas: New video 'El Beach'

THE LIMIÑANAS NEW ALBUM 'MALAMORE' OUT NOW ON BECAUSE MUSIC WATCH 'EL BEACH VIDEO'   'Listen carefully to the coolest vintage sound' Pitchfork'French pop in its purest form' The Guardian'The Jesus and Mary Chain influences and Serge Gainsbourg's sly sophistication' The Quietus'Lionel and Marie Limiñanas stick to what they know — The Velvet Underground, Serge Gainsbourg, JAMC fuzz, ’60s soundtracks — but it always sounds effortless and cool' - Brooklyn Vegan
French duo The Limiñanas' new album 'Malamore' is out now.
The band have now shared the video for album track 'El Beach': https://youtu.be/bp169ELvyS4    As for their previous albums, Marie is on drums and vocals and Lionel on guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals. But this album also features a stable of guests, the most notable being Peter Hook, who adds bass and chorus vocals on the hypnotic and dreamy ‘Garden Of Love’, the first single off the album. On the cover of their new album ‘Malamore’, their first for Because Music, Lionel and Marie Limiñanas are back in black and looking ineffably cool. They’re stood next to a classic silver Fifties trailer, shot at a beach festival in the French town of Paulilles by the Spanish border, just 30 minutes drive from the duo’s home town of Perpignan. They’d been playing a DJ set, “only with 45 rpm vinyl - Sixties punk, Italian pop, movie soundtracks and Seventies rock tracks,” they recall. “The picture syncs well to the colour of ‘Malamore’, like the artwork of a movie soundtrack. The lettering on the cover is significant too.”

The content of their DJ set, and the fact that ‘Malamore’ is also the title of a 1982 Italian film and a word that describes an obsessive brand of unrequited love, are the keys to unlocking The Limiñanas. One of France’s most beloved treasures, their latest and greatest album is rooted in garage-punk, but with the flair and range of a movie soundtrack: Serge Gainsbourg, meets Yé-Yé meets Phil Spector. The Nuggets compilations and early Stooges and Suicide albums meets the Sixties film genres of Commedia All'italiana and French Nouveau Vague, while sounding only like The Limiñanas. “We integrate a lot of different influences,” Marie and Lionel declare, “but most of the time, it’s unconsciously, and very naïve.”

Malamore’, like its 2013 predecessor ‘Costa Blanca’, is even structured like a soundtrack. “Or a reading book record, like we had in our childhoods,” the couple explain. “With ‘Malamore’ we were thinking of Sixties Italian sketch movies: Dino Risi’s ‘Les Monstres’ [The Monsters] is a great example. The main idea is a story with a start and an end, which can be linked even if they exist in different universes. Everything here is about love stories - thwarted love, aborted passions, funny or dramatic. But our album isn’t directly related to the Italian movie, we just found the title adapted to our record and the title alone sounded really good!” Shifting from dramatic scene to scene, ‘Malamore’, just like The Limiñanas themselves, is a magnificently moody experience. Music for the ears and the eyes and quite unlike any other record you’ll hear in 2016. WATCH 'GARDEN OF LOVE (feat.
