Tori Amos Celebrates 'Boys For Pele' 20th Anniversary w/ Deluxe Reissue ft. Rare and Previously Unreleased Bonus Tracks

TORI AMOS

Boys For Pele Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Two-CD Deluxe Edition  Featuring Remastered Audio,
Plus Rare and Previously Unreleased Bonus Tracks

2-LP Set  Of Original Album Available On Vinyl

Available November 18 From Rhino

One of the most successful and influential artists of her generation, Tori Amos is as much a force to be reckoned with today as when she made her debut as producer in 1996 on her third studio album, Boys for Pele, over 2 decades ago. An ambitious and uncompromising collection of songs about mythology (Pele was a Hawaiian volcano goddess), suppression and self-discovery, the record became one of her most successful, debuting at #2 on the album charts in both the U.S. and the U.K. An international hit, Boys for Pele hit the Top 10 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Sweden.

To celebrate the pivotal album’s 20-year anniversary, Rhino will release a deluxe edition that includes a newly remastered version of the original, along with a selection of B-sides, rare recordings, and four previously unreleased tracks.  Boys For Pele: Deluxe Edition  will be available on November 18 as a 2-CD set ($19.98) and digitally. A  2-LP set  ($31.98) of the original album on vinyl will also be available on the same date.

Moving away from the corporate environment to record in a church In Delganey, Co Wicklow,  and an old Georgian house in Co Cork, Ireland, Boys for Pele altered the course of Amos’ career. As she explains in the album’s liner notes, “This is the record where I fought for my life.” Greeted with rapturous fan support, this proved this to be a rewarding decision. In addition to album fan favorites “Caught a Lite Sneeze” and “Hey Jupiter”, the groundbreaking Armand Van Helden remix of “Professional Widow” was #1 on the UK Singles Chart and US Dance Chart.

Amos was so prolific writing Boys for Pele that a number of songs were left off the album and released as B-sides. Many of them can be found among the 21 bonus tracks that appear on  Boys For Pele: Deluxe Edition , including “Toodles Mr. Jim” and “Frog On My Toe.” Other rarities include the demo for “Fire-Eater’s Wife/Beauty Queen” and live recordings of “Honey,” “Sugar” and “Professional Widow.” Four unreleased gems make their debut on the collection: “To The Fair Motormaids of Japan,” “Talula” (M&M Mix), “In The Springtime Of His Voodoo (Rookery Ending)” and “Sucker.

Yann Tiersen Reveals "Penn Ar Lann," Album Out September 30

YANN TIERSEN

LISTEN TO NEW TRACK “PENN AR LANN”

TAKEN FROM EUSA, HIS FIRST SOLO PIANO ALBUM OUT SEPTEMBER 30 2016PHOTO CREDIT: Christopher Espinosa Fernandez“his songs and instrumental pieces have a cinematic sweep and lyrical elegance” – WNYC Soundcheck

"...devastatingly effective way with a melody" - The Guardian 4* live review
Ahead of the release of  EUSA YANN TIERSEN’s first album of solo piano music, Tiersen has launched a brand new track, “Penn ar Lann,” listen  HERE .

Location is important to everything Yann Tiersen does, and here, Tiersen has taken his connection with the land one step further. The collection of 10 solo piano pieces form a musical map of Tiersen’s home island Ushant (‘Eusa’ in the local Breton language) which is positioned in the Celtic sea between Brittany and Cornwall.

Each track was conceived in and named after a location on the island. Initially tracks were only available as sheet music, with each piano piece accompanied by a photograph of the location and a field recording.  For his album he took things a step further – firstly Tiersen manipulated his original field recordings to create a subtle drone of the natural noises on the island, then took everything to Studio 1 at Abbey Road and recorded the solo piano.

Between each piece we hear the sounds of the island, and Tiersen’s improvisations that are all titled “Hent.” Hent translates from Breton to English as Path, and with each one Tiersen leads the listener across the island landscape to a new location.

His full immersion into the rustic way of life and his admiration for desolate, sparsely-inhabited landscapes all seem a far cry from the cutesy postcard image of Montmartre and the soundtrack for the film  Amélie  (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001), that some might best recognise Tiersen from. In fact this album sees a more stripped back production last seen on the collaborative soundtrack for  Good Bye Lenin!  (Wolfgang Becker, 2003) and before that, of course, on his debut,  La Valse Des Monstres , originally written for a theatrical adaptation of Tod Browning’s Freaks, and later mined for the Amélie soundtrack.EUSA artworkYann Tiersen has also announced he will perform an exclusive instore at Rough Trade East, London onThursday, September 29.

The instore is his first UK show following sold out performances at the Edinburgh International Festival and the Barbican. The Herald said "There’s an elegant languor to his music and an evocative quality that allows the audience to close their eyes and put their own images to it." and both The Guardian and The Independent awarded the show 4*. A European tour follows (full details below).

SHOUT! FACTORY UNEARTHS ANOTHER GILDED PIECE OF AMERICAN MUSIC HISTORY WITH THE BIG T.N.T. SHOW

SHOUT! FACTORY UNEARTHS ANOTHER GILDED PIECEOF AMERICAN MUSIC HISTORY WITH  THE BIG T.N.T. SHOW
TWO LEGENDARY CONCERT FILMS, T.A.M.I. SHOW  AND  THE BIG T.N.T. SHOW, MAKE THEIR BLU-RAY DEBUT VIA SHOUT! FACTORY INTHE [image error]Los Angeles, CA – Fans of classic rock and soul rejoiced when the legendary concert film T.A.M.I. Show made its DVD debut on Shout! Factory in 2009. Now that beloved film makes its Blu-ray debut, along with its long-lost—and much requested—follow-up, The Big TNT Show, on December 2, 2016, as part of the 2-disc Blu-ray set The Big T.N.T. Show was filmed in Los Angeles in November of 1965 and stars some of the biggest acts of the day, including many future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members, performing their best material. The Byrds, in their original line-up of Gene Clark, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Michael Clarke, and Roger McGuinn, perform two # 1 hits, “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season).” Ray Charles gives a rousing performance of “What’d I Say” and “Let the Good Times Roll.” A sultry performance by The Ronettes on “Be My Baby” is met with impassioned screams from the audience; The Lovin’ Spoonful perform their Top 10 hits “Do You Believe in Magic?” and “You Didn’t Have to Be So  Nice”; and Bo Diddley fires up the crowd with “Bo Diddley” and “Hey, Bo Diddley.” To close the show, The Ike & Tina Turner Revue give an electrifying performance, including “I Think It’s Going to Work Out Fine” and “A Fool in Love.”
Also on the stage that evening was Petula Clark, performing her No. 1 hit “Downtown”; Roger Miller, playing his biggest hit, “King of the Road”; Donovan, opening his set with Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Universal Soldier”; and the reigning queen of folk, Joan Baez, reflecting the continuing popularity of the genre as the Vietnam War escalated.
Performing to the side of the stage in between acts, but not seen in the film, was the Modern Folk Quartet. Made up of future luminaries - songwriter/producer Chip Douglas, Lovin’ Spoonful member Jerry Yester, famous rock photographer Henry Diltz, and songwriter/musician Cyrus Faryar, with session player “Fast” Eddie Hoh on drums, the band closed the evening with the show’s Harry Nilsson-composed theme song “This Could Be The Night.”
Originally billed as a companion piece to the T.A.M.I. Show after that show’s success, The Big T.N.T. Show holds up as an essential time capsule from its day. Phil Spector was on board to help produce, to serve as the on-screen music director, and to play piano for Baez’s rendition of The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.” David McCallum, a rising star appearing in the new TV series The Man From U.N.C.L.E., was tapped to emcee. Filmed at what was then the Moulin Rouge nightclub on Sunset, footage also includes shots of the Los Angeles haunts Chateau Marmont, Ben Frank’s coffee shop, and fleeting hot spot The Trip nightclub.
One of the most acclaimed rock events ever captured on film, the 1964 concert known as T.A.M.I. Showalso featured performances by several future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. In a lineup like no other, the Rolling Stones, James Brown, the Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, the Supremes, Chuck Berry, Lesley Gore and others took the stage one after another on October 29 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
Aside from the five rock groups, all the performers were backed by a band that we've come to know as the Wrecking Crew, famed for playing on Phil Spector-produced hits, Beach Boys albums and much more, with future stars Glen Campbell and Leon Russell, among others. Fanita James, Jean King, and future solo star Darlene Love, billed as The Blossoms, provided backing vocals.
Mastered from a new High-Definition transfer, The T.A.M.I. Show / The Big T.N.T. Show Collector's Edition brings both of these history-making films to life in a definitive set that no fan or scholar of rock and soul music will want to be without.

The Regrettes x Brooklyn Vegan | new track + upcoming dates w/ Sleigh Bells

The Regrettes debut new single:"Hot" premiering on Brooklyn Vegan
+ Fall tour with Sleigh Bells+ Nylon's "New Punk Bands You Should Listen To"+ additional heat from Rookie, Stereogum, NOISEY and morefor fans of Cherry Glazerr, Mitski, Hinds       ► Stream the new track, "Hot" and share with your readers
"It’s a grungy pop punk banger that brings back some memories of The Distillers, and that’s not a bad thing at all."  - Brooklyn Vegan     "an attitudinal, guitar-laced bop with retro sensibilities and catchy melodies."- Stereogum
"tongue-in-cheek garage-pop uses humor and nuance to transform ’60s pop into soul-baring, therapeutic rock songs."
- Rookie Mag
"While The Regrettes are still fairly new, it’s clear that Night and her crew are a swiftly developing force to be reckoned with"- NOISEY     Perfectly imperfect - that’s one way to describe LA based punk act, The Regrettes. Writing songs that proudly bear a brazen and unabashed attitude in the vein of acts Courtney Barnett or Karen O - with a pop aesthetic reminiscent of 50’s and 60’s acts a la the Temptations or Buddy Holly - the LA based four piece create infectious, punk driven tracks.
Lead by outspoken frontwoman, Lydia Night, and comprised of Genessa Gariano on guitar, Sage Nicole on bass and drummer Maxx Morando, the group have left the LA rock scene floored, managing to capture the hearts of jaded rock critics while opening for acts like Kate Nash, Jack Off Jill, Bleached, Pins, Deep Vally and more. With nothing but demos available online, the group are already beginning to generate hype, from outlets like NPR, and with NYLON already heralding them them as a “punk act you should be listening to”.
From the opening moments on a track by The Regrettes, we’re greeted with a wall of guitars, infectious melodies and a wistful nostalgia that continues right until the final notes. Taking cues from acts like Hinds and Hole, there’s a wistful sense of youth and vulnerability that lies at the heart of each song.
A song by The Regrettes is, essentially, a diary entry into Lydia’s life. “My music is a spectrum of every emotion that I have felt in the last year, and you can hear that when you hear the songs. Everything that is happening in my life influences me. It’s everything from boys, to friends, to being pissed off at people, to being really sad. Just everything.”
The most intoxicating draw of The Regrettes is their bashful, heart-on-your-sleeve temperament - writing urgent and fast-paced pop songs with a punk rock mentality. “The way that we write, it’s all based on honesty,” muses Lydia on the group’s punk aesthetic. “If I finish a song, I’ll just leave it - I won’t really go back to it. I like things to feel in the moment and I don’t want it to be perfect. If I work on something too much I lose it and get bored and I want to do the next one..”     Find The Regrettes:Facebook  Twitter  Instagram Soundcloud Official     Upcoming Tour Dates:Wed 9/21 - New York, NY Studio at Webster Hall with Allison Weiss

It was shot in the desert and mountains of Southern California and mirrors the intense, personal nature of the lyrics. As the WSJ expressed, the “musician surrounded herself with yucca plants, tall mountains, and a quaint cabin outside of Palmdale, Calif. But it’s her intense gaze into the camera that takes center stage.” Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/-f3cEVPkyKc. “Young In All The Wrong Ways” was the third track released from the album following the plaintive “Without A Word” that premiered via American Songwriter and “Move Me,” of which the video premiered at NPR Music. The emotionally-charged first single was described by NPR as starting as a “gentle country-pop arrangement” that builds to “full-on, hair-flinging '90s-goddess rock.” Watch the video for “Move Me” here:https://youtu.be/yO0ph_roNbsYoung In All The Wrong Ways was produced in Los Angeles by Gabe Witcher who put together a stellar band that included two of his fellow Punch Brothers, guitarist Chris Eldridge and bass player Paul Kowert, and musicians Jon Brion and Jay Bellerose. Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan, Watkins’ bandmates in I’m With Her, provide harmonies on the title track while Jim James of My Morning Jacket guests on “One Last Time." The album sees the acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist boldly stepping back in to the role of frontwoman following the collaborative groups of Watkins Family Hour and the Platinum-selling, Grammy Award-winning Nickel Creek, which she first formed with her brother Sean Watkins and Chris Thile when she was just eight years old. Easily her most cohesive and fully realized album of her solo career, it is also her most introspective, personal and revealing; she wrote or co-wrote each of the 10 songs - a first for her. Writing and recording these ten intensely soul-baring songs was a means for her to process and mark the last couple years, which have been transformative. These songs contain some of the heaviest moments of her career, with eruptions of thrumming B3 organ and jagged electric guitar. But it's also quiet, vulnerable, tenderhearted. Sara Watkins on tour:September 20 – Minneapolis, MN @ Dakota Jazz ClubSeptember 21 – Chicago, IL @ Old Town School Of Folk MusicSeptember 23 – Nashville, TN @ AmericanaFest - City WinerySeptember 24 – Atlanta, GA @ City WinerySeptember 25 – Asheville, NC @ The Grey EagleSeptember 27 – Annapolis, MD @ Rams Head On StageSeptember 28 – Philadelphia, PA @ World Cafe LiveSeptember 30 – Pawling, NY @ Daryl's HouseOctober 1 – Boston, MA @ Brighton Music HallOctober 2 – Portland, ME @ One Longfellow SquareOctober 3 – Northampton, MA @ Iron Horse Music HallOctober 5 – New York, NY @ The Bowery BallroomOctober 6 – Washington, DC @ The HamiltonOctober 9 – Peninsula, OH @ The G.A.R. TELE NOVELLA PREMIERE NEW SINGLE "EVEN STEVEN"

TELE NOVELLA PREMIERE NEW SINGLE "EVEN STEVEN"
HOUSE OF SOULS  OUT THIS FRIDAY ON YELLOW YEAR RECORDS, US TOUR STARTS THIS WEEK!
Stream/Share "Even Steven"
Tele Novella today offer us another taste of their new album  House of Souls  (out this Friday). Baeble premiered "Even Steven" today and noted "This Austin-based band is quirky, edgy, and they don't take themselves too seriously -- with clever and fun lyrics like "If you get a hand you shouldn't bite it / If you get a cigarette you'll need to light it / Give a mouse a cookie, it'll ask for milk." Front woman Natalie Ribbons acts out every word with her voice, making it fun and adding a slight growl under her breath. Because of course, how could she possibly deal with this moocher without growlin' a little bit?"
Of the track, Natalie Ribbons of Tele Novella noted, "Everybody knows at least one Even Steven. The kind of person that keeps track of time and money, but always in their favor. This is our vampy, passive aggressive, Quentin Tarantino-style roasting of all those assholes in one surfy, R&B sitting."
Watch the video for "Heavy Balloon"

NPR All Songs Considered  first premiered "Heavy Balloon" and noted, "Inspired by the classic Velvet Underground song "Caroline Says," this track by the Austin-based band Tele Novella is going to make you so happy.Lenny Letter went on to premiere the video for the track which stars Lorelei Linklater of Boyhood. They wrote, "Tele Novella have a bittersweet sound, satisfyingly reminiscent of 1960s girl groups and crestfallen twee. Awash in tambourine and harmonies, their songs reveal the drama of figuring out what it means to be alive." Watch it above.
Tele Novella will set off on a run of North American dates this week. The tour dates will see them play NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and more. See below for a full run down.

Robyn Hitchcock shares new song; announces tour dates

"LOVE IS A DRAG" 7" COLLABORATION FROM ROBYN HITCHCOCK & EMMA SWIFT
OUT OCTOBER 3 on TINY GHOST RECORDS

"Robyn and Emma's vocals intertwine beautifully, suspending time, leaving you hanging on each lyric as if in a trance.  Life might be change, love a drag, but these two songs are gorgeous."
- Kevin Cole, KEXP Senior Director of Programming/Host of the Afternoon Show
"Ahhh....beautiful truths are set to technicolor harmonies on this new single by Robyn Hitchcock andEmma Swift. Sparse yet gauzily multi-dimensional, these songs inhabit their own world but thankfullywe are welcome to visit. A gift of love and mercy set to two A-sides. Aces."
- Jody Denberg, KUTX Austin
"Everything you want, crashes like a car," sing Robyn Hitchcock & Emma Swift on "Love Is A Drag," the deliciously bittersweet celebration of ardor and adoration that marks their second 7" release as a duo. The vinyl single/digital download - backed by the equally paradoxical "Life Is Change" - is available from Hitchcock and Swift's own Tiny Ghost Records. "The label," Hitchcock explains, "is named for our lovely Persian kitten Tiny who died before she was quite full-sized. Her short life cast a long shadow, and beautiful one too." "Love Is A Drag" and "Life Is Change" were recorded last summer with Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub, Jonny, The New Mendicants) producing at his home studio in Kitchener, Ontario. Hitchcock and Swift sing and play guitar; Blake contributes keyboards and glockenspiel.  Both "Love Is A Drag" and "Life Is Change" were written "in the middle of a desolate winter on the Isle of Wight," says Swift. "Robyn planted the seed and I finessed lyrics, structure and thematic ideas. It was a lonesome, grey time and the songs reflect that." The two songs - which mark Hitchcock's first official release since 2014's extraordinary The Man Upstairs - are strikingly spare and sardonic, the warmth of the duo's new love and immaculate harmonies still not quite enough to supersede the intense solitude and lingering chill of Compton Bay's desolate January seaside. "They're real bottoming-out songs," Hitchcock says. "All we had was a little chocolate and a copy of Neil Young's On The Beach to keep us going." Having recently established a new home base in Nashville, Hitchcock continues to spend much of his life on the road, sharing stages around the globe with Swift supporting and joining on harmonies at most dates. The second half of 2016 will see dates in the US and Japan, as well as tours of the United Kingdom and Swift's home shores of Australia. UPCOMING ROBYN HITCHCOCK US SHOWS: OCT 4 Fremont Abbey Arts Center Seattle, WAOCT 5 Fremont Abbey Arts Center Seattle, WAOCT 8 club congress Tucson, AZOCT 9 Largo at the Coronet, Los Angeles CANOV 10 City Winery Atlanta, GANOV 11 3TEN Austin City Limits Live Austin, TXNOV 13 The Kessler Dallas, TXNOV 15 The Mucky Duck Houston, TXNOV 17 City Winery Chicago, ILNOV 18 Stoughton Opera House, Stoughton, WINOV 19 City Winery NYC - early show New York, NYNOV 19 City Winery NYC - late show New York, NY All shows supported by Emma Swift, excluding NY For more information about upcoming shows, visit: http://www.robynhitchcock.com/tour/
