OCTOBER 24

To mark the release of his new album Ruminations (Nonesuch), Conor Oberst will perform the record in its entirety to an audience of contest winners at New York City'sHousing Works Bookstore Cafe on the album's release day, Friday, October 14, 2016. The performance, co-presented by NPR Music's Bob Boilen and WFUV Radio's Rita Houston, will be simultaneously webcast via NPR Music and NPR Music's Facebook page. WFUV.org will host an on-demand audio stream of the concert in the days to follow. Ruminations will be available to stream exclusively on NPR Music's website beginningSeptember 30 as part of its First Listen series. Oberst also will be the musical guest on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! on October 24th. In the winter of 2016, Conor Oberst found himself hibernating in his hometown of Omaha after living in New York City for more than a decade. He emerged with the unexpectedly raw, unadorned solo album Ruminations. "I wasn't expecting to write a record," says Oberst. "I honestly wasn't expecting to do much of anything. Winter in Omaha can have a paralyzing effect on a person but in this case it worked in my favor. I was just staying up late every night playing piano and watching the snow pile up outside the window. Next thing I knew I had burned through all the firewood in the garage and had more than enough songs for a record. I recorded them quick to get them down but then it just felt right to leave them alone." Oberst then went to ARC, the studio he built with his Bright Eyes bandmate and longtime friend Mike Mogis, to record that music. With the help of engineer Ben Brodin, he recorded all the songs in the span of 48 hours. The results are almost sketch-like in their sparseness, and they ultimately became the songs that comprise Ruminations. These tracks do not have the multi-layered instrumentation of the most recent Bright Eyes and solo albums: This is Oberst alone with his guitar, piano, and harmonica; the songs connect with some of the rough magic and anxious poetry that first brought him to the attention of the world, while their lyrical complexity and concerns make it obvious they could only have been written in the present.

Laura Marling's Reversal Of The Muse Podcast: An Exploration of Femininity in Creativity
Laura Marling's Reversal Of The Muse Podcast: An Exploration of femininity in creativity; New episode with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris Out Today!
Laura Marling, the 26 year-old BRIT Award winning singer-songwriter, has written and produced a new podcast series Reversal of the Muse in which she talks to female (and some male) recording industry professionals. The latest episode, the tenth in the series released today, features her conversations with musical icons Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris as they get set to re-release their legendary Trio album with Linda Ronstadt.
"Marling's enquiries go beyond indignant cries of foul play. The tone is thoughtful and the discussions cover everything from female friendship and fandom to sexuality and the pleasures and pains of touring" - Financial Times Launched in August, Reversal of the Muse is a new project from Laura in which she seeks to open up the conversation around the lack of feminine presence in the recording studio environment, why that might be, and whether it would ultimately make any difference at all to the creative outcome. With no ulterior motives, nor any preconceived expectations, Reversal of the Muse is as much about the conversation created than divulging or expecting a conclusive answer.
Armed only with her mics and recording equipment, Laura travelled to interview a series of renowned musicians, producers, and studio engineers for a series of podcasts that discuss the questions posed based on first-hand experience.
The series has featured Laura in conversation with LA sisters HAIM, singer-songwriters Marika Hackman, Karen Elson and, Jonathan Wilson, guitar store owner Pamela Cole, producerCatherine Marks, recording engineers Olga Fitzroy and Vanessa Parr and songwriter and label head Amanda Ghost.
Laura Marling: "Reversal Of The Muse began as conversations between friends about female creativity.
"In reversing the muse it became an experiment. As a small part of the global conversation about women in the arts, it became an obsession. It occurred to me that in ten years of making records I had only come across two female engineers working in studios.
"Starting from my experience of being a woman I began to ask myself what difference it might have made had I had more women around, if any. I wanted to know why progress has been so slow in this area and what effect it would have on music."

The Joy Formidable Release Acoustic EP 'Sleep Is Day;' Announce Pledge Project To Support Orangutan Society
The Joy Formidable Release Acoustic EP "Sleep Is Day", Announce Pledge Project with all proceeds donated to the Sumatran Orangutan Society and Touring with KONGOS and Placebo
On September 26th (yeah, that's today, folks!) The Joy Formidable release a brand new digital EP called 'Sleep Is Day'. The is the first all acoustic EP the band have shared despite a career busy with acoustic performance and album gems like "Silent Treatment" and "The Brook". Singer Ritzy Bryan explains "we had some beautiful live recordings of tracks from 'Hitch' that we'd done acoustically, I think they were the building blocks of this EP. Then things got dangerous when we started dabbling with a few covers." 'Sleep Is Day' pays ode to David Bowie, the Misfits reunion and TJF's current tour buddies, the South African four piece KONGOS. Currently touring together in North America and Canada until late October, Ritzy hints that early next year could bring an acoustic tour. "We're planning on taking a show on the road that's very intimate and features some great guest performers." A track on the EP has also inspired a charity project through Pledge launching on October 3rd with all profits being donated to SOS, the Sumatran Orangutan Society - http://www.orangutans-sos.org. Says Ritzy, "We read a tweet by the naturalist and conservationist Bill Oddie. He was lamenting the destruction of the lianas in the orangutans' natural habitat. We have a song on our EP called "Liana" and once we started reading about the crisis the orangutan was facing, it set the wheels in motion for us wanting to raise some money." Several items are to be sold by the band, including artwork, merchandise and one of Ritzy's Fender guitars. The accompanying video for "Liana" takes you on a journey through tropical rainforests and all its inhabitants. It reminds us how we are all connected, how the "forest of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another." 'Sleep Is Day' EP Track listing1. Liana2. Blonde Redhead - Masculin FémininStreet Date, September 30th, 2016, Numero Group

Teeming with the energy and grit of pre-Giuliani Manhattan, Blonde Redhead’s long out-of-print early recordings have finally crawled their way out of the ’90s basement thanks to Numero Group who will issue a 4LP / 2CD set on Sept. 30. Weighing in at 37 tracks, Masculin Féminin compiles the band’s first two albums for Steve Shelley’s Smells Like Records (self-titled andLa Mia Via Violenta), their period singles, extant demos, and radio performances across four LPs or two CDs. Dozens of previously unpublished photographs illustrate two lengthy essays on this essential New York band’s formative years.
.This is the latest installment in Numero Group’s 200 Line series which has also included releases from Unwound, Bedhead, Codeine, White Zombie and The Scientists.“These songs combine a raw need, a ready access to neediness, with seemingly incongruous cinematic changes reminiscent of ’60s Italian pop music and movie scores. They switch between emotional grandeur and eye scratching immediacy.” -Arto Lindsay

Pretenders share first new video; announce headlining dates
THE PRETENDERS REVEAL BRAND NEW VIDEO FOR"HOLY COMMOTION"
ANNOUNCE HEADLINING SHOWS;TICKETS ON SALE BEGINNING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 NEW ALBUM, ALONE, OUT OCTOBER 21
The Pretenders have revealed a brand new video for "Holy Commotion," the first track to be taken from their new album, Alone, out October 21st through BMG. The part-animated video was shot in Nashville at producer Dan Auerbach's studio, and includes footage of Chrissie Hynde and Auerbach, edited by Director / Animator Luca Monterosso Whittmann. WATCH THE "HOLY COMMOTION" VIDEO HERE Alone is the first Pretenders album for eight years and was recorded in Nashville, TN. Originally intended as a solo follow-up to 2014's Stockholm, it too soon dawned that those driving guitars, ragged-but-righteous arrangements, tough-yet tender lyrics delivered by the most beautifully distinctive voice of a generation, sounded fantastically familiar. The Pretenders were back. Thirty six years after their remarkable first album, Alone could be the older, wiser, badder sister to that exhilarating debut. Hynde recorded the album with Auerbach, from The Black Keys, who stood as captain, producer and multi-instrumentalist on the record, an album which sees Hynde at her searingly honest, most incisive best. The full band joining Hynde and Auerbach on the album features Johnny Cash's former bass player Dave Roe and country rocker Kenny Vaughan on guitar plus sundry members of Dan Auerbach's side project The Arcs: Richard Swift, drums, Leon Michels, keyboards and Russ Pahl providing sly curlicues of pedal steel. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake (Arctic Monkeys, Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello). Duane Eddy also features on the punchy "Never Be Together." Of the new album Hynde said: "This record is what I love the most -- real people playing real music."
The Pretenders begin a North American tour with Stevie Nicks on October 25 at Phoenix, AZ's Talking Stick Arena, ending December 18 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. They have also just announced their own headlining shows in Austin, TX, Durham, NC, Red Bank, NJ, Akron, OH and Portland, OR. The complete tour dates are below. Robert Plant joins Lampedusa tour on select dates
ROBERT PLANT JOINS LAMPEDUSA TOUR ON SELECT DATES
ELEVEN-CITY TOUR SUPPORTING EDUCATION FOR REFUGEES
features:
EMMYLOU HARRIS, STEVE EARLE, PATTY GRIFFIN, BUDDY MILLER, THE MILK CARTON KIDS and others
OCTOBER 6 - 21, 2016
Robert Plant has confirmed that he will join Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller, The Milk Carton Kids, and more for select dates on the Lampedusa tour. Lampedusa is an 11-stop concert tour intended to raise awareness of the unprecedented worldwide refugee crisis. Funds raised by Lampedusa will support educational programs for refugees around the world. "This is a humanitarian issue - it is not a political issue," says Griffin. "These are real people with real needs and it's not going to go away and we have to deal with these issues in a realistic way, and realism has to do with compassion." Plant offered this statement about joining the tour. "I'm taking a break from recording the new Sensational Space Shifters record to be a part of this very important and worthwhile cause. When I watch the news and see people from these places being displaced by hatred and ignorance, I know that these people are just like you and me. All they want is to live in peace and have their children grow up loved, fed and educated. That seems a million miles away for many people at the moment. They are living in refugee camps, in conditions that are far below sustenance levels. When I heard that some of my friends were rallying to do a series of concerts to help raise funds and awareness, to help address the basic needs of food, shelter and medical care, I wanted to help, in whatever way I could. One thing that I want to make clear: as with all the other members of this tour, I will be performing two or three songs a night and no more.I'm not making a political statement. The organization that is receiving these funds is a religious one. This appeal is trying to help on the ground wherever it can. I hope that my voice, along with my friends, helps bend the arc of the universe a little more toward the loving and helps with the work of getting the basic essentials of life to those who are without." The complete tour dates are below. The shows featuring Plant are noted. FOLLOWING HIS SOLD OUT UK TOUR, POP ICON ADAM ANT CELEBRATES THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS LANDMARK “KINGS OF THE WILD FRONTIER”ALBUM WITH A NEWLY-REMASTERED ALBUM REISSUE AND NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

(LOS ANGELES) September 26, 2016 - Following his recent sold out UK tour, pop icon Adam Ant is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the release of his landmark “Kings of the Wild Frontier” album with a newly-remastered reissue (Sony Legacy UK) and North American tour. Adam will play the classic album in its entirety, and in sequence, including the first-ever live performance of the track “Feed Me To The Lions”. For ticket information, visit http://www.adam-ant.com/.
"I'm really looking forward to performing the 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' album live and in sequence plus my other favorite songs from the repertoire, in the USA,” Adam said.
“Kings of the Wild Frontier” introduced the Burundi Beat style of thundering, infectious, Central African drumming to a pop-music audience. Adam captured the live sound by incorporating two drummers into his band, a musical signature that remains to this day.
In addition to remastering the classic album, Adam personally designed the deluxe box set that includes items from his extensive personal archive and a bonus DVD of the out-of-print “Ants In Japan” concert video.
The platinum album, originally released in 1980, crowned the UK Album Chart and spent more time in the top position than any other album at the time. The album went on to achieve worldwide recognition and produced massive chart-topping singles including the classic “Antmusic”, the breakthrough tribal onslaught of “Dog Eat Dog” and the epic title track.
The original USA version of the album replaced the track "Making History" with the classics "(You're So) Physical" and "Press Darlings". The album climbed the Billboard Top 200 chart and produced three Top 20 hits for “Antmusic”, “Dog Eat Dog” and “(You’re So) Physical”.

Midge Ure Returns to N. America For Fall Tour This WeekNew West Coast Dates Added for 2017'Live and Electric' Featuring Songs from His Solo Catalogue, Ultravox, Visage, and More Richard Lloyd of Television Supports on Select Dates
"A true unsung hero." Boston Globe
"Ure combines elegant melodies, eloquent lyrics and pure, exceptionally expressive vocals, all enhanced by lush and imaginative production." San Jose Mercury News
September 27th, 2016, New York, NY: Grammy and Brit Award winning musician Midge Ure returns to North America this week, playing with a full band for the first time since the Retro Futura Tour in 2014. Playing along with Midge will be former Right the Stars drummer BC Taylor and L.A. based keyboard player Tony Solis "I have been fortunate enough to meet up with some brilliant American musicians over the last few years and will be working with a couple of them on this tour. Both are multi instrumentalists and will cover drums, bass and electronics" Richard Lloyd from Television will support on select dates. This run of dates will be mosty East Coast with West Coast dates planned for early 2017. Last year saw Ure playing acoustic on the Fragile Troubadour Tour not only playing but traveling completely solo and recording the whole experience himself for a documentary released late last year. The film highlights the realities facing the modern touring musician. Ure explains how the idea came to be: "After I was asked to do a masterclass at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts I realised that talking about multi album record deals and world tours would be something most of the students would never experience so I set about doing the six week tour completely alone. No crew. No tour manager. No musicians. I wanted to show the reality of what they might face, if they pursue a career in the current music industry." THE GROWLERS PREMIERE NEW TRACK "NIGHT RIDE"
"NIGHT RIDE", FROM THE GROWLERSNEW ALBUM, CITY CLUB, PRODUCED BY JULIAN CASABLANCAS ON CULT RECORDS (9/30/16)
GRIMES, UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA, AND ERIC ANDRE ADDED TO THE GROWLERS' BEACH GOTH FESTIVAL

In anticipation of the new album, City Club, next week by The Growlers, VICE/Noisey has premiered the new song, "Night Ride".
Editor Kim Taylor Bennett states: "One of the tasters from their imminent, most excellent fifth album City Club (out September 30th): A delicious, 13 track collection that weds a pack-a-day gruffness with deft pop hooks. There's a hypnotic, give-a-fuck 70s street swagger to it, thanks to the muscular basslines, but also a surfy swoon to Neilson's casual-cool croon. "
The album was co-produced by Julian Casablancas (The Strokes / Founder of Cult Records) and Shawn Everett (this year's Grammy Award winner for his work with Alabama Shakes). City Club was recorded earlier this year in Everett's studio in downtown Los Angeles, which served as inspiration for the album title and cover art.Known for their relentless touring schedule and DIY work ethic, the band is one of the most exciting independent success stories of recent years.
Casablancas states: "The Growlers may be the most interesting band in the world, certainly one of the coolest. Nor gypsy, nor goth, nor surfer, nor punk, yet somehow all of them."
From the disco skronk of title track "City Club" to the William Onyeabor-inspired Afrogroove of "I'll Be Around," the record marks a twist on their Beach Goth sonics. It's still a swirl of reggae, punk, ragged country, and twangy psychedelia, but now with prominent synthesizers, danceable beats and some serious anthems.
Lead singer/songwriter Brooks Nielsen states: "I was really into Afrofunk when we made this record," says Brooks, "and a lot of English 70s punk I listened to as a kid, particularly when Jamaica was mixing in with all the punk kids."The Growlers just kicked off their fall tour last week with multiple sellouts along the way to New York for release day at Webster Hall. The 20 date US trek culminates with a return home to headline their 5th Annual Beach Goth Festival on October 22and 23in Orange County, California.
