SLOAN'S 'ONE CHORD TO ANOTHER' 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR COMES TO LA
SLOAN'S 'ONE CHORD TO ANOTHER' 20TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR COMES TO LATHIS WEDNESDAY AT THE ROXY
Photo: Jannie McInnes Over the course of their 25 year career, the four songwriters in Sloan have amassed an outstanding collection of over 200 songs on eleven studio albums. Recently named one of Canada’s top five bands of all-time in a CBC critics poll, Sloan continue to write, record and tour well into their third decade together. 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of Sloan's best-selling album “One Chord To Another”. To celebrate, the band have taken to the road performing the classic album in its entirety before returning to the stage for a second full set of hits and fan favourites. It's an evening with Sloan not to be missed. “One Chord to Another” was a fiercely independent declaration from Sloan, whose career had all but come to a close after their sophomore release “Twice Removed”. It called attention to each of the band's four-songwriters while embracing classic studio techniques and a DIY approach. The album was first released on their own murderecords imprint before being picked up by The Enclave for release in the USA. It was awarded the Juno Award (Canadian music industry’s Grammy) for Best Alternative Album in 1996, and is Sloan’s top selling album to date. This year, Sloan are performing over 70 “One Chord To Another” shows across North America. Fall dates in Eastern Canada and across the United States are on sale now. Read the Noisey interview

Tasseomancy Share New Track "Missoula" || 'Do Easy' LP Out 11/18 On Bella Union
Tasseomancy Share New Track “Missoula”
Do Easy
LP Out 11/18 On Bella Union

“Glowing, dreamy retro-pop song, undercut with a little bit of melancholy” -FADER
Following the announcement of their new album Do Easy that will see release on November 18th through Bella Union (and Hand Drawn Dracula in Canada), Toronto twin sister duo Tasseomancy (formerly of Austra) have shared alluring new track “Missoula” via The Line Of Best Fit. Showcasing the versatility and range of sisters Romy and Sari Lightman, “Missoula” proves beguiling in its simplicity, a transient’s anthem, referencing the plight of Hebraic wanderers. The band explain:"Missoula is a song for the roaming and an ode to the Unknown. There are so many transient people on the planet today, both fleeing and voluntarily in motion. I can’t speak for their experience, but as an artist, I find myself moving often. There is the desire to stay, the urge for going, and the split feelings of being a floating, uprooted bag of mostly water. Missoula has a repetitive Hebraic melody at it’s center, coming from a lineage of wandering Jews. A nod to one of my favorite Pentangle recordings, Let no man steal your thyme."
Genesis P-Orridge and Kathy Acker believed William Burroughs to be a vibrant beam of clarity. P-Orridge—a disciple of Burroughs—referred to “The Discipline of D.E. as a smooth hand of magic”. Romy of Tasseomancy stumbled upon the Discipline of D.E. (Do Easy), a short story outlining a don't-bust-a-gut Buddhist philosophy and “like a gentle old cop making a soft arrest”, she was deeply touched and set out to find the easy way.
For the seasoned loners, stoners, and lackadaisically laid, Do Easy was written as a dead-beat anthem for a generation who was told that anything is possible after the possibility slows. Written in Toronto and Montreal, Do Easy was created as a lamp shade of hope and of soft survivalism. Serene, strange and magnetically sung, it honors its free thinking forbearers without being weighed down by them, creating immersive worlds of loving allusion.
Soft synths and crystalline harmonies merge hypnotically on “Dead Can Dance and Neil Young”, an invitation to “fade into folk song”. If folk song is this, it’s folk of great idiosyncrasy, where vocoded chorales provide atmospheric shading and alto-saxophones drift like cigarette smoke from a David Lynch dream-film. Between the new age synth of “Claudine & Annie”, the ambient swoon of “29 Palms”, Kate Bush-like prog-psych of “Missoula” and gently lapping title-track, Do Easy plays like pop from a parallel world.Sisters Sari and Romy Lightman are former members of queer cold-wave band, Austra. Channelling their former forays in psychedelic folk into a kind of lushly accessible, warmly experimental dream-pop along with bandmates Johnny Spence and Evan Cartwright, they explore manipulated sounds, all with mood in mind. Assisted by friends Brodie West (alto-sax), Ryan Driver (flute) Simone Schmidt (voice of a young Neil Young) and Alex Cowan (Blue Hawaii) that exploration reaches full bloom on Do Easy, the sound of a band hitting their richly imagined, luxuriously executed stride. And, wealth of evocative references included, making it all sound easy.

London Town
is a revealing and entertaining look at teenage life, love and rebellion at the dawn of Thatcher’s Britain. The late 1970s and early 1980s were a time of great political and social upheaval in the UK and, as is often the case, it was fertile ground for musicians. The music of the era echoed the turmoil and excitement in the streets and London Town brings those times to life.

DEBUT LP BONITO GENERATION
VIA DOUBLE DENIM RECORDS DUE OCTOBER 21ST
EMBARKING ON FULL NORTH AMERICAN TOUR IN OCTOBER
STREAM: "Trampoline" - https://soundcloud.com/kerokerobonito/trampoline
Following the announcement of their upcoming album Bonito Generation due October 21st via Double Denim Records, Kero Kero Bonito are back today to share another song off the project with the upbeat "Trampoline". As is custom for the band, the song features lead singer Sarah Perry singing in both English and Japanese. The band are set to begin their North American tour starting in mid October with a run of dates concluding at Sound on Sound Festival in November. Stream "Trampoline" at the link above and find the full tour routing along with more on Kero Kero Bonito's upcoming Bonito Generation below.
About Kero Kero Bonito:
We're KKB. We make music for the whole world.
In January 2013, Sarah saw an advert for a rapper on an internet bulletin board. She applied and South London inter-school music friends Gus and Jamie agreed she was the best. We made a mixtape that Double Denim liked so much they had to release it again and then we toured round the globe.
Sarah's mum comes from Japan and her dad comes from England, so she treats her parent languages as one. Gus and Jamie program MIDI modules for fun and study international pop charts weekly. We picked the name just because it has a nice ring to it.
We have some pretty good songs like "Flamingo" (body-positive cartoon flute R&B) and "Sick Beat" (gamer girl power rap bass). Global corporations like Adidas and Topshop recognise the stylish competitive edge Kero Kero Bonito bring to classic brands. We played at an old folks' home once. Now we've finished our debut album, and it's turned out just how we wanted.
This is Bonito Generation!

Psych quintet Bonfire Nights share new single and announce new live dates

“Crunching psychedelia” – Loud and Quiet
On October 21st, London-based psych-rock quintet Bonfire Nights release their thunderous debut album, ‘Entopica Phenomica’. Nine tracks of groove-laden stoner jams, shimmering guitars, and the boy-girl vocal harmonies and pop hooks that set the band apart from many of their contemporaries.
Formed in Australia by Steve Foster and Ruth Nitkiewicz, Bonfire Nights packed their bags in 2011 and trekked to London for the promise of the big city lights. They hit the ground running, taking their brand of champagne shoegaze on the road for their first UK tour. The following year saw them journey to the United States for showcase events at SXSW and in New York City, with a couple of blistering college house-parties in between.
Back in the UK, they headed into the studio with Olly Betts of The Duke Spirit to lay down the groundwork for the pulsating neo-psych juggernaut ‘Ego Death’, which was released as a split 7” with Tripwires on Bad Vibrations Records. Sessions from this time also include the brooding and haunted ‘Low’, mixed by Ian Davenport (Band of Skulls, Supergrass) and featured on a limited edition compilation cassette from Fluffer Records.
This was followed by a period of intense gigging, sharing the stage with other like-minded acts such as Pond, The KVB,Lola Colt, The Drones, DZ Deathrays, Holydrug Couple and The Underground Youth. Bonfire Nights then recruited fellow Australians James Boyd on guitar and Suzie Creevey on keys, and further consolidated their psychotropic sound with Leon Ferbrache on bass.
In 2015 Bonfire Nights were back in the studio with Betts to record their debut album, ‘Entopica Phenomica’. Featuring walls of guitar noise, chiming distortion and sweeping synthesizers, the album sees the band exploring cerebral underworlds and experimenting with their sound.

STREAM House of Souls
"Inspired by the classic Velvet Underground song "Caroline Says," this track by the Austin-based band Tele Novella is going to make you so happy." NPR All Sounds Considered on "Heavy Balloon"
"Tele Novella have a bittersweet sound, satisfyingly reminiscent of 1960s girl groups and crestfallen twee. Awash in tambourine and harmonies, their songs reveal the drama of figuring out what it means to be alive." Lenny Letter
"Following a 2014 single and a 2015 EP, the first album-length release from this quartet fully realizes their deliciously twisted artistic vision that's a little bit like if "The Addams Family" were a musical collective. Singer-guitarist Natalie Ribbons is the natural focal point, but it's just as obvious that this is a team effort: Keyboardist Sarah La Puerta, bassist Jason Chronis and drummer Matt Simon are all essential to the band's sound and style, which often seeks out dark corners that make their lighter moments all the more bright." Austin 360
"Tele Novella (featuring members of Agent Ribbons and Voxtrot) have a theatrical and literate sound; they've appeared on a Wes Anderson tribute compilation, but they've got a little of Tom Waits' or David Lynch's sense for the outré, as well, with moments more appropriate for Blue Velvet than The Royal Tenenbaums." LA Weekly
"Tele Novella's latest, House of Souls, is playing in the house next door to the Wilson brothers, heard just under the ear beyond the manicured shrubbery. Dreamy, humid, and teetering, ready to fall or be pushed at any minute. " Antigravity Magazine
"A bit reminscent of some of my favorites, Sleater-Kinney and Courtney Barnett, the vocals convey a certain facetious attitude. The sleek production is almost good enough to shine on its own, but then the surfy, washed out guitar licks combined with some low-key synths completely push it over the edge." Baeble
"House of Souls is a fine pop album with morose undertones as there are references to corpses and death and things of that nature, but not in a Thriller type way, more like Os Mutantes. Illusion and delusion are subjective - we fabricate worlds in times of joy or duress causing things to seem better (or worse) than they are depending on the dominant feeling." Free Press Houston
"House of Souls reminds listeners why music is not only an auditory experience, but a visual one as well. Often lending itself to the world of film noir, Wes Anderson, and spaghetti westerns, it's impossible to listen to this album without an array of bright lights and colors flooding your mind. While the album may not be perfect (it sometimes stray too close to generic pop), Tele Novella have created a record that stands on its own and could provide a beautiful soundtrack. More About Tele Novella:
Tele Novella is an inspired macabre-pop band out of Austin, TX. They are dreamy, they are spooky, and they write real fucking songs. While one may detect the influence of the nocturnal jungles of Os Mutantes or the lapelled, knee-socked smarts of Belle and Sebastian, they have cobbled together a special kind of mineral all their own worth making room on the Table of Elements for. Earnest, yet sinister; Vampy, but sentimental. The precise recipe that goes into this concoction cannot be revealed, but it is a delightful snow globe of warm, colorful darkness.
In 2014, they won a contest for free recording time at Dub Narcotic Studios in Olympia, WA. This resulted in their first single, "Trouble in Paradise," that was later featured in the ABC television series Pretty Little Liars. Not long after that in 2015, their EP Cosmic Dial Tone was released on Los Angeles label Lollipop Records on the heels of a Wes Anderson tribute compilation (American Laundromat Records), to which they contributed a contagiously glad version of "Stephanie Says" by The Velvet Underground.

Tarantino, take note." Stitched Sound
