Rachael Yamagata Shares "Let Me Be Your Girl" Music Video, Directed by Josh Radnor and Starring Allison Janney

RACHAEL YAMAGATA SHARES "LET ME BE YOUR GIRL" MUSIC VIDEO
DIRECTED BY JOSH RADNOR AND STARRING ALLISON JANNEY Photo Credit  Laura Crosta  September 26, 2016 - (Los Angeles, CA) - Acclaimed singer, songwriter, and musician Rachael Yamagata has shared a new music video for her song "Let Me Be Your Girl" off her fourth studio album  Tightrope Walker Directed by actor-filmmaker Josh Radnor and starring seven-time Emmy winner Allison Janney, the short film premiered yesterday on Entertainment Weekly. Watch the video HERETightrope Walker was released last Friday via Frankenfish Records/Thirty Tiger and is available now digitally HERE and physically HERE"To me, it represents a woman who's finding her courage and having her familiar self-deprecating thoughts about herself, yet inside of her exists this potential for absolute joy and freedom and power. It just goes through the trajectory of discovering that and questioning that, which made the song richer," offered Yamagata, describing the song to Entertainment Weekly. "Allison Janney dancing as a sexy clown is something I really want to see, and I suspect that other people will want to see it too,"added Radnor on the inspiration for the video.  Rachael Yamagata - "Let Me Be Your Girl" With its themes of perseverance, relentlessness, and owning your own power, Tightrope Walker(Yamagata's first album since 2011's Chesapeake), represents an artistic rebirth both lyrically and sonically for the Woodstock, NY-based artist. "When [French high-wire artist] Philippe Petit was asked why he walked the tightrope he responded, 'Why - there is no why.' This really f--d me up," Yamagata says.  I was devoting an entire theme of the tightrope walker to my new record: defending the weary spirit and empowering the underdog while using the high wire artist as a symbol of how to get through, but it hadn't yet occurred to me to contemplate the why of getting through or the why of even my own art.  Beyond that, why continue in an industry that I'd not yet conquered or pursue this when you have to give up so much to do so?  Something propels our survival and search for happiness and it's this desire to overcome what threatens to break us that continues to fascinate me. If you're thinking of quitting - anything - this is your record," she says.  For her second independent release, Yamagata launched a PledgeMusic campaign (ongoing since 2014) and became producer, den mother, and manager, turning her "hermit house in the woods" into a studio. In the process, she rounded up an illustrious array of guest performers, including such Grammy Award winners as Owen Biddle (The Roots), Matt Chamberlain, and Victor Indrizzo, as well as celebrated musicians Ben Perowsky (Rufus Wainwright), Zach Djanikian (Amos Lee),Kevin Salem (Dumptruck, Yo La Tengo), Russell Simins (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) and others. Yamagata self-produced  Tightrope Walker  and brought her long-time producer, three-time Grammy nominee John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band) onboard halfway through the process as co-producer. The music video for "Let Me Be Your Girl" is preceded by clips for tracks "Noboby" and "Over".Yamagata co-directed and co-edited the video for the album's first single "Nobody." The video uses dance to symbolize the transformative power of breaking through as we harness the energy of our guides/ muse/ inner potential and go after our dreams. Watch it HERERolling Stone premiered the video for "Over" last month, praising the "upbeat and orchestrally ornamented" track. "Over" is an anthem about letting go and finally moving on, that showcases a newfound optimism, previously unexplored in her past work. Watch the video for the track HERE. Despite having the impressive resume of a major-label artist who turns independent, becomes a PledgeMusic legend, gets profiled in two Berklee College of Music marketing classes, performs for President Obama, earns praise from artists like Gregory Colbert and gurus like Deepak Chopra, and who has played Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden and shared stages with Patti Smith, Michael Stipe and Pete Townshend, what defines Yamagata most is this: "I have fully stepped into my role as healer, optimist, entrepreneur, writer, producer, and spirited badass. And that is my 'why,'" she says. Earlier this month, Yamagata embarked on her Tightrope Walker North American Tour. Tickets for the tour are available now HERE. Kedr Livanskiy as she gives us a look into Moscow's underground electronic scene in "Keep Your Word"

KEDR LIVANSKIY'S "KEEP YOUR WORD"
DEBUT 'JANUARY SUN' OUT NOW ON 2MRLISTEN ON SOUNDCLOUD OR SPOTIFY

Directed By: Konstantin Bushmanov & Yana KedrinaWATCH / SHARE: "KEEP YOUR WORD
"Kedr Livanskiy Is Leading A Meditative-Electro Revolution" - NYLON
"Livanskiy's chords are dramatic and wistful both, soaring and sad at once. The arpeggios give the track an anxious feel and her voice lands somewhere between that of early Grimes and Laurel Halo" - Pitchfork "Kedr Livanskiy is the New Face of Russia's Underground Electronic Scene" - THUMP
"she creates an ethereal expanse that is both dream-like and eminently danceable- Gorilla vs Bear
This year brought Moscow's Kedr Livanskiy's first U.S. appearances and a well receieved debut EP that's out now on 2MR. Today she released a video for single "Keep Your Word" via i-D who have also sat down with Kedr to discuss the concepts / creation of the video and the current wave of Russian music, art and fashion - read it here

Livanskiy was born into a shifting and critical time for Russia.  The Soviet Union had exhausted and old values were anathematized because of reconstruction.  A sense of displacement drove Kedr to find herself.  She joined the directing department of Moscow school of New Cinema where she learned to see the world. At the same time, electronic music fascinated her completely and was the same depth that she was looking for.
Kedr and a small circle of friends formed around a mutual interest in music - Inga Copeland, DJ Spin and DJ Rashad, Legowelt, Death Grips, Florian Kupfer, Dean Blunt and it wasn't long until they organized their own community and DIY label known as John's Kingdom
No one else was doing anything that fit their aesthetic or ideals so they started throwing their own parties which exploded in attendance after only a year. For them it wasn't just about music; but also a channel for art, videos and lifestyle. The community continues to expand and grow. Today it's the most alive and honest thing in Moscow.

Joanna Gruesome supported by Young Romance at The Fighting Cocks tomorrow night (29th)

Young RomanceAnnounce surprise Joanna Gruesome support at The Fighting Cocks, tomorrow night (29th)
Debut album ‘Another's Blood’ out Novvia Banquet Records
Listen to ‘Disappear’  HERE

"Mary Chain guitars collide beneath Claire's vocals recalling Kate Bush in her heyday. This is a band that don't just have the sound, they have the songs to match too." – NME Magazine
"A towering blaze of weighty drums and smouldering, grunge-tinged guitar." – The Line Of Best Fit
London-based duo Young Romance are pleased to announce a surprise London show in support of noise-pop upcomers Joanna Gruesome at The Fighting Cocks, Kingston. The special performance comes in anticipation of their long-awaited debut album, ‘Another's Blood’, out on Banquet Records in November.
‘Another's Blood’ is a beautifully constructed 10-track epic that merges the powerful vocals of Claire Heywood and raw garage guitars of Paolo Ruiu to create something truly unique. While setting a dark tone throughout with their new wave inspired songwriting, anthemic choruses and vocal hooks will draw you in immediately and stay with you long after first listen.
Doubling up as drummer, Heywood fronts Young Romance impressively while guitars are allowed to wash over her, creating walls of feedback and riffs. Taking their cues as much from the likes of Ride and Blondie as they do modern contemporaries such as CHVRCHES, these guys are doing something fresh, in a fiercely independent way.
“We made the album ourselves” they tell us, “It has been quite a DIY effort. We felt that we had reached a point after working with different producers that we knew what we wanted to make musically. We experimented with different recording techniques through tape machines and various different distortion and echo effects units to help enhance the sound. We’ve fought very hard to create the music that we want and believe in, rather than what would appeal to a mass audience. We’re not sure that we fit into any specific genre but I don’t think you really have to anymore.”
After early shows supporting Mystery Jets, Slow Club and Summer CampYoung Romance self-released their debut 7" 'Pale' via the Banquet Records imprint, and after a run of shows including Dot to Dot festival and Club NME at KOKO, they went on to release their 10” 'Wild EP' which was produced by Simon “Barney” Barnicott who has previously worked with the Arctic Monkeys, Peace, Suede and Bombay Bicycle Club.
The first single to be taken from the EP received praise from the likes of Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), John Kennedy(XFM) and BBC Introducing. The band then toured Europe with shows in Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Austria in March 2015. May 2015 saw Young Romance perform on the BBC Introducing stage at The Great Escape Festival, embarking on a headline tour as well as playing New York Popfest, supporting The Wedding Present and The Primitives before recording their debut album.

Moses Sumney has emerged as an independent artist to watch, riding a wave of word-of-mouth praise, hushed recordings, and dynamic live performances. The Helio Sequence hit the road this October

The Helio Sequence hit the road this October

Listen/Watch: The Helio Sequence Playlist
http://bit.ly/1cvBRve
Photo credit: William AnthonyThe Helio Sequence have scheduled fall 2016 tour dates in support of its self-titled 6th effort, which is available now from Sub Pop. The trek begins October 7th in Ashland, OR at The Brickroomand ends October 23rd in Portland, OR at Revolution Hall. The tour includes stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Boulder, and Salt Lake City. Please find a current list of tour dates below.

The Helio Sequence is out now on CD/LP/DL worldwide from Sub Pop [link here]. The album was produced & mixed by the band at The Old Jantzen Building in Portland, OR and mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound

What people are saying about The Helio Sequence:
“The Helio Sequence has created a euphoric, career-defining album.” [9.2 / 10] - PASTE

“...10 infectiously compelling tracks in 36 breathtaking minutes...Songs that would have been furiously epic on recent THS works are marvels of restraint in length and production, particularly the nervous slink of “Upward Mobility,” the elegant swagger of “Stoic Resemblance” and the thrilling pop insistence of “Deuces,” which all clock in at less than four minutes.” [Essential New Music] -  MAGNET

"...The duo’s latest is an ambitious, smart, and memorable collection of crisply produced clean-channel rock that shows all the newcomers how it’s done." [8/10] -  FLOOD

“This collection of songs is lush and atmospheric, leaning heavily on layered, orchestral ambience rather than on the chirping indie-pop choruses of the band’s past. Album opener “Battle Lines” surges with melancholy, each note fraught with a moody pensiveness. It expands from there, as if the musicians are not necessarily expressing anything different, but expressing the same things differently. The collection as a whole is lovely and contemplative, building a certain feeling around the listener.”  - Relix

“Stoic Resemblance” matches harmonious psychedelic chorus with a brisk krautrock pulse.” -  Stereogum

“”Stoic Resemblance” is among the most pop-friendly things the duo have put to tape. Of course, “pop-friendly” to The Helio Sequence takes the shape of more direct song structures and vocal hooks. Naturally, it’s all filtered through their signature kaleidoscopic filter, hitting a chord somewhere between gauzy and taut. At a tight three minutes, “Stoic Resemblance” shows The Helio Sequence at their most spontaneous and their most playful, which is not only a surprise turn from the studio-intense direction that’s long defined them with surprisingly fun results.” [Song of the Day] -  KEXP

“It’s a hit of catchy goodness with a funky bassline with a chorus of “oh na na nas.” It’s a bonafide jam.” [“Stoic Resemblance”]  - KCRW

“The Helio Sequence’s first eponymous album is their sixth, and symbolizes a creative rebirth of the Portland—by way of Beaverton—duo...“Stoic Resemblance” is the first of the results to come trickling in, and its groovy bass line, coupled with a 21st centuryinterpretation of CCR guitar and set behind Steve Miller Band-esque vocals, has us eagerly anticipating the other nine.” - Willamette Week

“A snappy and steadily groovin’ indie pop number…” [“Stoic Resemblance”] -  Consequence of Sound

“Arager by comparison, rhythmically reminiscent of Beck...It’s great to find the Helio Sequence upping their game, and being a little less stoic.” [“Stoic Resemblance”]  -  Buzzbands

The Wytches Share "Crest of Death" On Stereogum || "All Your Happy Life" LP Out Friday

The Wytches Premiere “Crest Of Death” on Stereogum All Your Happy Life  LP Out This Friday on Heavenly Recordings
Today, The Wytches share new track “Crest of Death” exclusively on Stereogum who said “The scuzzy first half of the two-minute track feels like hardcore whiplash, before breaking into psychedelic territory with a lulling bridge”. It’s the latest track from their sophomore album All Your Happy Life, out this Friday 30th September on Heavenly Recordings.
All Your Happy Life draws on a lifetime’s worth of new experiences shoehorned into two whirlwind years since their acclaimed debut album Annabel Dream Reader. There’s no difficult second album syndrome here. This black-hearted set is a combination of heavy comedown psychedelia and bilious and brilliant baroque ‘n’ roll. It’s portentous and scathing. Scabrous and bold. Utterly nihilistic.
Influences and inspiration is drawn from unexpected places – reading Tolstoy’s stories of dysfunctional relationships on the tour bus, digging the warm Hammond-and-acoustic tones of Elliot Smith, loads of underground metal band – but mainly it is informed by observing small town English life with new eyes, having traversed the planet on that first wave of success that followed their 2014 debut. It’s not so much the sound of the calm after the storm, but the howling vortex that follows in its wake. All Your Happy Life marks a creative leap for The Wytches. Some might say it is the sound of a band finding their place in the world but really it is about world being allowed to enter the sphere of The Wytches - on their terms.
Recorded by Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds / Grinderman) in Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire and then Toe Rag in East London, and mixed by Sclavunos and Mikey Young.
Praise For The Wytches"The British trio internalizes 21st-century angst, letting it fester until it erupts in an outpouring of confused catharsis.” —NPR“Their dark and scrawny sound — a seething cauldron of grunge, metal, surf and psych-rock that at times evokes a doomier Arctic Monkeys — is strikingly different from most of their peers.” —Billboard"Three real dark English dudes whose inherent heaviness is offset by bewytching catchiness and bursts of roiling surf-rock. The Wytches are both heavy and scrappy — death-obsessed angst-addlers whose shouty and tousled sound has us dancing on the unmarked grave of Ozzy's beheaded bats.” —SPIN "The unique intersection between [Elliott] Smith and metal is best heard on lead single “C-Side,” – Consequence of Sound

Immersion Announce New Album Analogue Creatures Living On An Island Out November 25th via swim~

Immersion Announce New Album Analogue Creatures Living On An Island Out November 25th via swim~
Share New Track “Fireflys”Listen to 'Fireflys' here: https://soundcloud.com/swimhq/03_fireflys/s-itGdsImmersion, an instrumental electronic duo made up of Wire frontman Colin Newman and Malka Spigel (Minimal Contact), return with their new album Analogue Creatures Living On An Island set for release November 24 via swim~. The album is available to pre-order now via  swim~ online store . Today the duo are sharing new single 'Fireflys' from the album to share via SoundCloud. While both Colin Newman and Malka Spigel have been busy with several other projects and collaborations over the years, they have returned to their critically acclaimed project to dazzle listeners with a new collection of magnetic instrumentals. New track 'Fireflys' is a meditative number drawing you in with it's galactic-sounding electronics. Immersion’s new album of seductive instrumentals takes in a wide range of moods and energies. Their music is a kind of Electro-Kosmishe - the sound of the 21st century, which nonetheless draws inspiration from German pioneers such as Cluster and Popol Vuh. And, like those groups, Immersion can create a world which is simultaneously devotional and sensual.Combining the considerable talents of Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact and Colin Newman of Wire, Immersion is a true collaboration, with no delineation between who plays or does what. “We don’t have fixed roles in Immersion.” Says Spigel. Newman concurs. “You can’t really tell who plays what.”Between 1994 and 1999, Immersion released three critically acclaimed albums of expansive instrumental electronica. Music which encom- passed the meditative and the hallucinatory. They also garnered remixes by some of the biggest names in electronic music. And then? Then, they faded from view...Cut to a mere 17 years later, and a new Immersion album glides into earshot. Their sound is unmistakable. And yet, clearly the duo have evolved. Immersion has returned a different beast. The pulsing and sliding analogue synths are still present and correct. Indeed, the stately and plaintive "Mechanical Creatures," with its constantly evolving web of analogue synth throbs, could easily find a home on Fripp and Eno’s classic Evening Star album. But there are also several sonic advancements from Immersion’s previous recordings. The most noticeable differences are the introduction of guitars into the mix and an increased sense of urgency to their compositions. This means, Analogue Creatures Living On An Island cannot be classified as ambient music. Although it does have its contemplative moments - such as the gently unfolding “Slow Light” - the majority of the album is powered by a strong sense of motion. “Nanocluster" is a tense and insistent composition. Coming over like the score to some futuristic spy film, it demonstrates Immersion’s skill at creating miniature sound worlds alive with detail. Meanwhile, the urgent forward propulsion of “Organic Cities” weaves in shades of prime era Tangerine Dream - and may well be the album’s highlight. The fact the album has been largely constructed using analogue instrumentation rather than digital, definitely gives it a warmth and depth which sets it apart.During Immersion’s 17 years hiatus, Spigel and Newman have been far from idle. Spigel has released acclaimed solo albums, exhibited her distinctive photography and performed sell out shows with a reformed Minimal Compact. Newman meanwhile, has helmed the revitalised Wire through a series of stunning gigs and poll topping albums. Besides which, the pair collaborated with Max Franken and Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner) as Githead, purveyors of skewed art-pop. And yet, despite all these outlets for their creativity, they decided the time was right to reactivate Immersion. “It felt like the right moment for us to do something with synths again.” Says Newman. “We had the urge to create instrumental, free-flowing music, which didn’t depend on any kind of verse/chorus/middle eight format. Music that could also be propulsive without resorting to any kind of obvious drumming”And it’s true the album exhibits a very organic flow. Another contributory factor could well be the duo’s relocation from London to Brighton. “We live 10 minutes away from the sea,” says Spigel. “We walk by it almost every day. It’s different every time we see it, even every hour. We’ve definitely been inspired by the light and the sound.” This influence is perhaps heard most strongly on "Spinner," the sonic equivalent of a bright spray of light radiating across a seascape.Analogue Creatures Living On An Island is the point where Immersion emerge from being one of the UK electronica scene’s best kept secrets, and gain the recognition they so richly deserve. For those who prefer vinyl, the album is available spread across two 10” singles Analogue Creatures and Living On An Island respectively.Analogue Creatures Living On An Island CD track listing: 1.
