July Talk premieres new video, UK tour with Catfish And The Bottlemen, U.S. tour to follow

"[The song] questions how online porn affects modern relationships and society's attitude towards sex," said The Independent. The song is off July Talk's sophomore album,
Touch,
out now on Island Records. When discussing the video for "Picturing Love," director Jared said: "Picturing Love was born out of a discussion with July Talk about the effect of modern technology on relationships. There is a sense that the plethora of different screens we use to try to feel connected, actually have the opposite effect. They either distort reality, giving us a pornographic version of romance, or worse they become a mirror, showing us only narcissistic images of ourselves." He continued, "I pictured a relationship. Two people staring at each other, but between those two people are layer after layer of disorienting screens. These supposedly connected individuals are actually separated by social media, television, pornography and the vast internet. At the end of the video, the two characters turn and for the first time see each other with no screen, between them. They were in the same room the entire time, but distracted by each others "image." Something I think we can all relate to." Watch the video for "Picturing Love" on The Independent or YouTube Following the release of their critically acclaimed album, July Talk were chosen by Catfish And The Bottlemen to join them as sole support on their exceptional UK tour. The two bands will play nine shows across the UK including three back-to-back shows at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse and a date at London's SSE Wembley Arena on November 15. The tour kicked off this weekend on Nov 5 at Derby Arena. In addition to their support dates, July Talk will also play a few headlining shows around UK and Ireland. July Talk released Touch in September, which received praise from the likes of NPR, Paste, Exclaim,and Consequence of Sound. The album includes their current single "Beck + Call" featuring Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq and the lead "Push + Pull" which spent 11 weeks at number 1 on the Canadian Alternative Chart. Both tracks feature stunning and artistically beautiful black and white videos. In December, July Talk will play two headlining shows in New York and Detroit at Bowery Ballroom and the Shelter respectively. Tickets for those shows are on sale now. The band will also embark on an expanded early 2017 tour of the U.S. in January and February, which will include some make-up dates for those cancelled this November due to the Catfish tour. It was produced by Young and John Hanlon, mixed by John Hanlon. Most recently Young previewed five songs from the album during his performances during the Desert Trip Festival, in Indio, CA. last week which both Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly summed up as simply "explosive."

Like certain other Southern California songwriters before him, Matt Costa has drifted through a strange and varied life in music, pushed toward pop music at a young age, selling hundreds of thousands of records and touring the world on the strong back of a simple, direct, and freewheeling debut. In the last few years, Costa took heavy stock in his work, and made unexpected turns into more progressive and thoughtful territories. This new direction has found him wandering; an outlier between the worlds of his own development as an artist, modern Orange County, his former label Brushfire Records, and cutting through the center of a now hidden and older California mystique. Prolific at every turn, Matt has taken on the aura of a classic California drifter, spinning records in the midnight hours of his local Laguna Beach radio station, writing by day cataclysmically varied music, from fingerpicked John Fahey-like numbers, to cut up poetry, to howlers harkening back to an other-worldly sound; complete with a range of writing invoking a Kinksian sensibility, early rock & roll- Eric Burdon and the Animals, Van Morrison’s Them, and the guitar playing and arrangements of Brian Jones. The last years have been eventful ones. Born and raised in Laguna Beach, Costa met some filmmakers hard at work on a documentary entitled Orange Sunshine detailing the story of the Brotherhood of Eternal love; a coastal church centered on psychedelics who became the largest manufacturers and distributors of LSD in the United States. In between shifts selling peaches at the Santa Monica farmers market, Sophie Strauss recorded her debut seven-song showcase, Yeah No Fine , at Endless Noise Studios with Jeff Elmassian and it is as much a glance at the California landscape as it is a portrait of the cramped isolation of NYC, informed by musical influences such as Van Morrison, Jenny Lewis and Fiona Apple.
She sings “I feel I’m the devil/I feel I’m possessed/Have you ever met a woman better dressed?” in “Walk Easy” off the recently-released EP. In lyrics equal parts self-deprecating and self-possessed, Strauss winks at her neuroses as she blends her obsession with vintage clothing and her years of experience working in a butcher shop with those perennial standbys: love and hypochondria.
Strauss now spends her time in Los Angeles, where she’s played at venues such as the House of Blues and The Hotel Cafe, and back east where she was a part of the Brooklyn Rod & Gun music scene. At her young age, Sophie has created a complicated, relatable album evoking indie pop and Americana, updated with electric guitar, synth, and lyrics that are as playful as they are wrenching. The way he weaves the words between the instrumentals is an art form in itself, and it creates an ambience that brings those existential questions we’ve been struggling with to the forefront."
In a smokey, East Village apartment on 13th Street, the origins of Tasting The Mothership unfolded through ideas, perspective shifts, personal experiences – and these recordings. It’s a documented artifact of a journey to, of, and through questions, conversations and reflection. It was learning and discovering with every sense continued. The transmission of inner-alchemy featuring to other and outward. Butterfly, cocoon, caterpillar – the ever changing. And the inconclusion of this exploration: oneness. new track C-h-e-m-i-c-a-l out November 4th
The Chemical Brothers have announced the release of a new track, C-h-e-m-i-c-a-l, which premiered last night as 'Hottest Record' on Annie Mac's Radio 1 show. The track has been a favourite of the band's live show for the past few months and is now available to fans.
The single follows on from their hugely successful eighth studio album, Born In The Echoes, which also marks the band's sixth number one record. After a year of headlining stadiums and festivals around the world, The Chemical brothers will be performing four sold-out UK shows including two nights at the legendary Hammersmith Eventim Apollo in December.
