WATCH & SHARE: The Molochs - "No More Cryin'"
The Molochs have premiered the video for their first single "No More Cryin' " on Brooklyn Vegan. "No More Cryin' " is the first single off their upcoming album 'America's Velvet Glory', which will be released 1/13/17 via Innovative Leisure.First, let’s meet Moloch. You remember him, right? The ancient god, the child eater, the demander of sacrifice, the villain in Ginsberg’s Howl(and also real life) and now the personal antagonist of singer and songwriter Lucas Fitzsimons, who named his band the Molochs because he knew he’d have to make sacrifices to get what he needed, and because he always wanted a reminder of the Ginsbergian monster he’d be fighting against. And so this is how you make a record right now: you fight for every piece, and when Moloch takes apart your relationships and career potential and leaves you sleeping on couches or living in terrifying apartments and just about depleted from awful people involving you in their awful decisions, you grab a bottle of wine (and laugh at the cliché) and put together another song. And once you do that eleven hard-won times in total, you get a record like America’s Velvet Glory: honest, urgent, desperate and fearless because of it. Fitzsimons came to his calling in an appropriately mythic way, born in a historic city not far from Buenos Aires and raised in L.A.’s South Bay—just outside of Inglewood—where he was immersed in the hip-hop hits on local radio. (Westside Connection!) The summer d before he started middle school, a close friend got an electric guitar, and Fitzsimons felt an enirresistible inexplicable power: “I'd go back home and I’d look up guitar chords on the internet—even though I had no guitar—and just imagine how I WOULD play them. I was slowly getting obsessed.” When he was 12, his parents took him back to Argentina, and on the first night, he discovered a long-forgotten almost-broken classical guitar in the basement of his ancestral home: “It sounds made-up, but it’s true,” he says. “I didn't put the guitar down once that whole trip—took it with me everywhere and played and played. When I got back to L.A., I bought my first guitar practically as the plane was landing.” This started a long line of bands and a long experience of learning to perform in public, as Fitzsimons honed intentions and ideas and tried to figure out why that guitar seemed so important. After a trip to India in 2012, he returned renewed and ready to start again, scrapping his band to lead something new and uncompromising. This was the true start of the Molochs: “It didn't make any sense to not do everything exactly the way I wanted to do it,” he says. “I was so shy and introverted that singing publicly sounded like a nightmare come true. But I didn't have a choice—I heard something inside of me and I needed to be the one to express it.” The first album Forgetter Blues was released with Fitzsimons’ guitarist/organist and longtime bandmate Ryan Foster in early 2013 on his own label—named after a slightly infamous intersection in their then-home of Long Beach—and was twelve songs of anxious garage-y proto-punk-y folk-y rock, Modern Lovers demos and Velvet Underground arcana as fuel and foundation both. It deserved to go farther than it did, which sadly wasn’t very far. But it sharpened Fitzsimons and his songwriting, and after three pent-up years of creativity, he was ready to burst. So he decided to record a new album in the spirit of the first, and in the spirit of everything that the Molochs made so far: “I wanted to spend less time figuring out HOW we were gonna do something and just actually do it.” The result is America’s Velvet Glory, recorded with engineer Jonny Bell at effortless (says Fitzsimons) sessions at Long Beach’s JazzCats studio. (Also incubator for Molochs’ new labelmates Wall of Death and Hanni El Khatib.) It starts with an anxious electric minor-key melody and ends on a last lonesome unresolved organ riff, and in between comes beauty, doubt, loss, hate and even a moments or two of peace. There are flashes of 60s garage rock—like the Sunset Strip ’66 stormer “No More Cryin’” or the “Little Black Egg”-style heartwarmer-slash-breaker “The One I Love”—but like one of Foster’s and Fitzsimons’ favorites the Jacobites, the Molochs are taking the past apart, not trying to recreate it. You can hear where songs bend, where voices break, where guitars start to shiver and when strings are about to snap; on “You And Me,” you can almost hear Lou Reed’s ghost call for a solo, and on “I Don’t Love You,” you get that subway-sound guitar and find out what happens when Jonathan Richman’s G-I-R-L-F-R-E-N goes wrong. And of course there’s the charismatic chaos of bootleg basement-tape Dylan—always Dylan, says Fitzsimons—and the locked-room psychedelia of Syd Barrett, especially on “Charlie’s Lips,” Fitzsimons’ ode to—or antidote to—those times when he felt the bleakness completely: “Then a bird lands on a branch nearby, you hear leaves fluttering, you hear a child laughing … all of a sudden things don't seem so bad anymore.”
So Moloch might still be out there, devouring his sacrifices, but the Molochs are still fighting, too. And that’s why Fitzsimons picked the band name—it’s so he remembers what he’s up against. He’s not celebrating the destroyer of youth and individuality and creativity, he says: “I’m just keeping him in sight so that he doesn't win.” – Christopher ZieglerTOUR DATES:

Mega Bog Announce New Album "Happy Together," Premiere 1st Single "Fwee" on NPR
MEGA BOG ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM
HAPPY TOGETHER
OUT FEBRUARY 3 ON NICEY MUSIC
PREMIERE FIRST SINGLE "FWEE" ON NPR
Mega Bog, the experimental pop project of New York's Erin Birgy, will release new album Happy Together on February 3 via Nicey Music. NPR's Songs We Love premiered the record's first single "Fwee" today and said the song "echoes the liberationist vibe of the West Coast's hippie heyday... her surprisingly fleet-footed seven-piece evokes a classic-rock band blissing out by a glimmering shoreline. Idly hypnotic guitar and deep vocal harmonies toy with the intensity, until 'Fwee' makes literal Birgy's observation that 'Fweedom is certainly useful / Pouring love in a musical being.'"
LISTEN TO "FWEE"
Mega Bog is the moniker of song-dribbler Erin Birgy, a Pacific Northwest rodeo child with an unmistakable laugh who was allegedly cursed upon conception. Over the past 8 years the band has stretched and wandered in a crescendo towards musical freedom. Now based in New York City, Birgy has adopted a band of wiggly jazz cartoons lifted from bands like Big Thief, iji, Big Eater, Causings, Hand Habits, Heatwarmer and others.
Melodies always lush, erotic and free. Chords always dissonant, abstract and evolutionary. On their 2013 album Gone Banana, Bog settled into their homemade cloud of pop and jazz. Spreading the discs around the world over countless tours of dim zones. On their new bug, Happy Together, Mega Bog leapfrogs further into the storm. Dizzying fusion of lounge, pop and bouncing rocks under poetic tantrums of love gone all the way wrong. Listen closer.

Arrows Of Love share new single, 'Beast' out Dec 9th via Tape Records
Arrows Of LoveListen to new single ‘Beast’ HEREout on December 9th via Tape Records
[image error] “Suitably riotous” – Wonderland
“Alongside their trademark psychotic heaviness, there’s a sense of maturity about them now.” – NME
“Everything’s F*cked stands tall with the best of them. Its eleven tracks could quickly become your soundtrack to morning, noon, and night.” – The Line Of Best Fit
Following the pulsating grit of their last single, ‘Toad’, Arrows Of Love are set to release ‘Beast’, a full-throttle triumphant blitz, out on December 8th via Tape Records. This noise-doom anthem fuzzes and spits while frontman Nimaapproximates a swaggering demigod as if Geddy Lee was howling into a maelstrom kicked up by Sleep. At other moments the mix of mayhem and heaviness brings to mind the likes of Harry Pussy and Black Sabbath playing at the same time.
A precursor to their anticipated second LP, ‘PRODUCT’, ‘Beast’ was produced by Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke, Gaz Combes), in the studio he built himself at Goldsmiths University, and mastered by Bob Weston of Shellac.
During the last few months Arrows of Love stepped away from their album recording process to fight a campaign against the ex-Olympic Authority LLDC. With their own warehouse community threatened with demolition as London continues to lose parts of its soul to gentrification, Vittoria Wharf hit local and worldwide news when residents stood up to fight closure. The band and a slew of local artists spearheaded the defence of what i-D called “a thriving centre for cultural and artistic output” during the #savevittoriawharf campaign.
‘Beast’ is a song built for speed. Its anthemic forward march is a sensibility that runs counter to the over-stuffed, of-the-moment world we live in and its context runs parallel with the bands defiant nature. “A lot of people have asked me if I’ve written any songs about this fight with the corporation” says Nima, “This song was actually written over a year ago, but as we've been playing and recording it this summer the lyrics turned out to be prophetically relevant”. Proving that Arrows Of Love are one of a rare breed of bands that stand by what they preach when the moment calls.
The 5-piece led by co-writers Nima and Nuha recently found themselves backed by the UK's highly competitive PRS Momentum Music Fund. After accepting an invite from CMJ Music Marathon the band confirmed a string of US dates, followed by a headline London show with Parallel Lines before the album recording began.
Arrows Of Love are, above all, a live phenomenon. Originally aligned with the early East London wave of bohemian rock bands, it was their fiercely independent and creative drive that has taken them across the globe, to the likes of SXSWand End of the Road, to sharing stages with the likes of The Fall, Buzzcocks, British Sea Power, 80’s Matchbox B-Line Disaster, The King Blues and many more. It’s on stage where London's own Arrows truly hit home.
Now, gearing up for the release of ‘PRODUCT’, the band are set to prove themselves the real deal. Drawing comparisons to the discordant, emotive musicianship of Sonic Youth to the raw power of McClusky, this second LP sees a band fully diversified, ready to release something truly unique.

Man Of The World - The Peter Green Story DVD
Man Of the World - The Peter Green Storycoming to home video on November 18thThe incredible story of the man who formed Fleetwood Mac
After replacing the legendary Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Peter went on to form Peter Green'sFleetwood Mac, one of the most successful bands to come out of Britain in the 60's. Peter's genius on the guitar was matched by the songs he wrote including Black Magic Woman, later a huge debut hit for Santana, and the supernatural and sublime instrumental Albatross, as well as the classic Oh Well.
The film traces that early success, explores Peter's drug use and his eternal spiral into schizophrenia. The film also examines how the treatment he received (Electroconvulsive therapy or ECT) prolonged his illness and extended absence from the music scene.
The story continues with Peter's fragile mental and artistic recovery, his return to the recording studio and live music scene in the mid 1990's that saw his most positive creative output for many years. It portrays an artist who has now come to express his feelings, not just through the guitar music he still loves, but also his art and photography.
The film contains extensive and rare archive footage of live and studio performances, stills and original in-depth interviews with Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Mike Vernon, (legendary producer of the original Fleetwood Mac "Blue Horizons" albums), Noel Gallagher, John Mayall,Dennis Keane (road manager), Martin Celmins, (Peter's official biographer), Carlos Santana,Jeremy Spencer, (the original Fleetwood Mac guitarist) and many others who were fortunate to work with or know this extraordinary Man Of the World .

New York, NY (November 1, 2016) – Lee Fields & The Expressions will release Special Night thisFriday, November 4 via Big Crown Records and today, Billboard has the exclusive stream where you can witness the band's incomparable soul-sound musicianship ahead of the release. Last week, Lee stopped by the Billboard offices for a rare acoustic performance that was broadcast live via Facebook and archived HERE. Special Night is available for pre-order at Big Crown and all digital retailers HERE.
Produced by Leon Michels (El Michels Affair, The Arcs) and Thomas Brenneck (Daptone), and brilliantly performed by the Expressions, Special Night was written, recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely to tape in three weeks at the legendary Diamond Mine Studios in Queens, NY. A sense of urgency, equal parts fun and inspiration, and a decent amount of beer and Jack Daniels were the driving forces during the sessions that produced Lee Fields & The Expressions latest offering.
The album's title track debuted this summer at Noisey and Kyle Meredith at WPFK says, “’Special Night’ should produce a few babies named Lee around nine months from now.” The current single is album standout “Make The World”, which works both as militaristic funk and a cautionary tale about the health of the planet. Paste says, "If a red hot, core-stirring song is what will inspire passive citizens to fight for social and political justice, then Fields is the man for the job."Listen to Special Night in full HERE

Colin Newman (of WIRE) Announces Reissues Of Three Classic Solo Albums
Colin Newman (of WIRE) Announces Reissues Of Three Classic Solo Albums
‘A-Z’/ ‘Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish’/ ‘Not To’ Due October 28th Via Sentient Sonics
Colin Newman is best known as singer and chief songwriter with the ground breaking post-punk band WIRE. From their internationally influential 1977 debut ‘Pink Flag’ right up to 2016’s critical acclaimed ‘Nocturnal Koreans’, Newman and Wire have always been at music’s cutting edge. Throughout 1980-82, Newman released a series of solo work. From sound-tracking The Silence of the Lambs to being covered by This Mortal Coil, this solo work sought a place in history in it’s own right and has been unavailable for many years. Today we announce the reissue of three of Colin Newman’s classic solo records, to be made available in on October 28th via his own new imprint
Sentient Sonics
(originally released via Beggars Banquet/ 4AD):
‘A-Z’ (1980)‘Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish’ (1981)‘Not To’ (1982)The ‘A-Z/ Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish/Not To’ vinyl release will consist of the 3 re-mastered original albums, released as three single albums. The ‘A-Z/ Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish/Not To’ CD release will consist of the 3 re-mastered original albums, each accompanied by a companion CD of extra tracks, B-sides & demos - many of which have never been released before, which will be released as 3 double-CDs. Pre-order here: https://swim.greedbag.com/colinnewman/
COLIN NEWMAN - ‘A-Z’Single Vinyl (SS01 LP) // Double CD (SS01/02 CD)In 1980, Newman released his debut solo album
‘A-Z’
, which, as the title suggests, offers up a wide spectrum of musical approaches and sees multiple envelopes being pushed. Now, for the first time, the album has been completely re-mastered, and is augmented with an additional disc of bonus tracks, including out-takes, alternate versions, B-sides, demos and home recordings.
‘A-Z’
picks up exactly where Wire’s classic first three albums left off. In fact, Newman’s debut is one of post-punk’s great lost masterpieces, mixing slanted lyrics, fizzing analogue synths and Newman’s trademark angular guitar work. Highlights include the bass propelled stomp of album opener ‘I’ve Waited Ages’, which features heavily distorted guitar loops and some seriously bizarre lyrics which could give Spike Milligan a run for his money. While the Syd Barrett on steroids mania of ’S-S-S-Star Eyes’ sees Newman constructing a strangely catchy song from just one note, around which are woven numerous counter melodies.Elsewhere, the melancholic and brooding ‘Alone’ (which has text by Wire’s Graham Lewis) propels itself into view with such majestic menace that it would later earn a well deserved place on the‘Silence of the Lambs’ soundtrack. Despite the unforced experimentation, tracks such as ‘Inventory’, with its brisk guitar and synth stylings, prove that Newman never lost touch with his ‘pop side’. As the NME review of the time so accurately observed,
‘A-Z’
is “An album in which experiment and accessibility co-exist”.The CD only
‘A-Z’
bonus disc includes an additional 17 tracks - only 4 of which have previously been released. The demos recorded at Riverside Studios, are a revelation. Without the more obvious studio interventions of their final incarnations, tracks such as ‘But No’ and ‘The Classic Remains’ offer startlingly different takes on the material. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the demo of‘Life on Deck’. While the album version is heavy with absurdist punk abrasion, the original comes over as a piece of hook laden guitar pop. Other treats include the poignant ‘Alone on Piano’ which does exactly what it says in the title, and one of Newman’s great lost songs ‘Not Me’ - later covered by This Mortal Coil on their epochal album ‘It’ll End in Tears’. Meanwhile, Newman’s original lo-fi home demos present the songs in more stark, experimental form.
‘A-Z’
shows Newman at the height of his powers, fashioning music which sounded utterly unlike anything else at the time. Or indeed since.

COLIN NEWMAN - ‘provisionally entitled the singing fish’Single Vinyl (SS03 LP) // Double CD (SS03/04 CD)Colin Newman’s second solo album, the perversely named
‘provisionally entitled the singing fish’
, was released in 1981 and proves that Newman was more than able to work outside the traditional rock format.A collection of imaginary soundtrack pieces in the manner of Brian Eno’s ‘Music For Films’,
‘provisionally entitled the singing fish’
is a diverse collection of instrumentals, encompassing the atmospheric, the abstract and the thrillingly propulsive. Now, for the first time, this album has been completely remastered and augmented with a whole disc of additional tracks, including alternate vocal versions, B-sides and demo recordings.Sounds described it as “Wonderfully cinematic”. And it’s not hard to see why. Witness the misty, ambient marshes of ‘Fish 4’, or the tripped out Morricone-esque soundscape of ‘Fish 11’. But there are moments of intensity here too. Check out the deliriously insistent krautrock of ‘Fish 7’, or ’Fish 9’, where Newman speeds up the rhythm tracks to dadaist effect. The album as a whole displays a true desire to endlessly experiment.Newman’s first self produced set, its ambition and scope show why he would go on to become producer of choice for post punk luminaries such as Minimal Compact and Virgin Prunes. The CD only bonus disc presents an additional 20 tracks, only 5 of which have previously seen the light of day. There’s a number of fascinating vocal versions of the Fish tracks, including the wide eyed ‘No Doubt’ (‘Fish 1’) and the skeletal psych of ‘You And Your Dog’ (‘Fish 11‘). Meanwhile, Newman’s home recordings from the era reveal that aside from experimenting with more abstract soundscapes, he was also simultaneously developing a set of vocal songs. Of particular note are the fuzz bass driven ‘Is It Worth Repeating?’ which features one of Newman’s most relaxed vocals and the airy Canterbury Scene stylings of ‘Crystal Clear’. In contrast, the menacingly insistent ‘Vox Pop’ sees a snarling vocal riding atop waves of pulsing distorted guitars. In the late 80s, numerous artists as diverse as Barry Adamson and In The Nursery would go on to release so called imaginary soundtracks. But with 1981’s
‘provisionally entitled the singing fish’
Newman proved that, as ever, he was well ahead of the curve.

COLIN NEWMAN - ‘Not To’ Single Vinyl (SS05 LP) // Double CD (SS05/06 CD)Newman’s third album
‘Not To’
(1982) is probably the finest of them all. Now, for the first time, the album has been completely remastered and augmented with a whole additional disc of unreleased tracks.
‘Not To’
sees Newman developing his distinctive art-rock in a more melodic pop direction. Songs such as the gorgeous ‘Lorries‘ with its chiming Byrds-like guitars and serpentine bass line, or the reflective‘Remove For Improvement’, contribute to an album with a strong psychedelic sensibility - complete with an unexpected Beatles cover - a deeply woozy take on George Harrison’s ‘Blue Jay Way’.Other highlights include the beautiful, meditative title track and the minimalist stream of consciousness of ‘Truculent Yet’. Where Newman’s previous albums had foregrounded studio experimentation,
‘Not To’
keeps the focus clearly on the band dynamic. For this reason, the collection of songs has a timelessness which many albums of the period lack. Contemporary reviews were unstinting in their praise. NME called it “icicle-cool pop” . Hot Press described it as “Newman’s most commercial offering to date... this man could be a major force.” While Melody Maker summed it up even more neatly; “Originality and a determined lack of compromise...what more could you want?”The additional disc presents the luminous single ‘We Means We Starts’ alongside 21 previously unreleased songs, which essentially constitute the demos for what would have been Newman’s 4th solo album. And it turns out it would have included some absolute gems. ‘But Either Way’ wouldn’t have sounded out of place on Wire’s ‘154’, while the fizzingly optimistic ‘You Must Decide’ is up there with Newman’s finest songs. Some of the demos also feature early sequencer work which point towards both Wire’s mid-80s incarnation and the ideas Newman would develop in his later solo work. Another treat is an early incarnation of the
‘Not To’
track ‘1, 2, 3, Beep Beep’ . Far superior to the quirky album cut, here it comes across as much more intense, yet also far more melodic. What shines out from both
‘Not To’
itself and these demo recordings is an abundance of ideas and approaches, showing an artist with an ever evolving creative drive. Not To - Vinyl & CD disc 1 track list:1. Lorries / 2. Don’t Bring Reminders / 3. You, Me and Happy
