Taffy release brand new video and add London date to their UK tour

TAFFYRELEASE BRAND NEW VIDEO ‘MURKIII’ AND ANNOUNCE LONDON SHOW 20/07
taffy2017c
“Nothing short of splendorious” – NME
“The buzz has spread far and wide. We are wholeheartedly impressed” – Drowned In Sound
“Something tuneful and great” – The Guardian
"The Breeders are reincarnated via Tokyo with feedback and gossamer female vocals" – The Times
Critically acclaimed Japanese indie-pop four piece Taffy returned this year with their fourth studio album, ‘Nyctophilia’, out now. Now they’ve shared their brand new video for ‘Murkiii’ and added the The Shacklewell Arms (Bad Vibrations) in London to their UK tour in July.
‘Nyctophilia’ showcases everything you could want from a Taffy record, but with a subtle difference; “I always write the songs as singles” explains singer Iris, “but for this album, for the first time, I wrote songs just to be part of the album”. This is evident upon first listen, where texture and sonic exploration take center stage, offering a coherent and thematically-interlinked body of work.
This album builds on the bands atmospheric guitar work and noise-rock sound, all the while showcasing their renowned dreamy, sugar-sweet melodies, under-pinned by Graham Coxon-esque 90’s guitar riffs.
The album name displays a certain continuity with their lauded 2015 EP ‘Darkle’, conveying feelings of darkness and love for the night, almost in direct contrast to the band’s bright, shimmering sound.
A swirl of transcendental melodies, new single ‘dd’ is a reverb-laden cacophony of fuzz bass and soaring vocals backed with beautiful, psychedelic soundscapes. Tracks such as ‘Runic Wade’ and ‘Lavendery’ take a step away from layered guitar work and take a more delicate approach, with dynamic and spacious recordings that give center stage to Iris’ blissful and otherworldly vocals.
With sensibilities reminiscent of Elastica and The Stone Roses, Taffy have always been inspired by the works of British artists and in ‘Nyctophilia’ they were given the chance to play homage to one of their favorites with a cover of ‘Come Home Baby’ by The Charlatans. Tim Burgess has been something of a longtime fan speaking publicly of his fondness for the band, taking them on tour. Of the cover he said "it's an honor” but the band insist the honor is all theirs.
‘Nyctophilia’ is released on April 7th via London’s premiere shoegaze and psych rock label, Club AC30, who’ve enjoyed recent success with Pinkshinyultrablast, Fever Dream and Ringo Deathstarr.

Tashaki Miyaki shares "Out Of My Head" music video via KCRW, debut album The Dream out now

Tashaki Miyaki shares "Out Of My Head" music video via KCRW, debut albumThe Dream out now VIDEO: "Out Of My Head"
YouTube / KCRW
The Los Angeles-based duo Tashaki Miyaki just released their highly anticipated debut album The Dream on April 7 via Metropolis Records (buy it here). The band recently wrapped up their residency at the Echoplex in LA and today shares the video for the album's third single " Out Of My Head " via KCRW. Here's what the band's Paige Stark said about the track:"It's a song about wanting to shut off my mind. I suffer from various anxieties and depression that can become exhausting. As John Milton says in Paradise Lost,  'The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.' Musically I wanted it to feel the opposite, soothing and expansive...like a daydream."The Los Angeles-based band Tashaki Miyaki have kept it mysterious since their inception. In their early days, the band's members often performed under aliases and even the roots of their moniker remain hazy (though it may or may not have first come from a mispronunciation of Japanese director Takashi Miike's name). The band was born out of a late night jam session in early 2011, when local legend Joel Jerome recorded what would become the band's first original song, "Somethin' is Better Than Nothin" and a cover of the Everly Brothers' classic, "All I have to do is Dream." Within a few weeks of posting the songs to Bandcamp, the band was invited to London where they played their first ever live show to a packed crowd at the legendary 100 Club.

In the six years since, Tashaki Miyaki have released three singles and an EP on UK labels Luv Luv Luv, For Us Records (Rough Trade Imprint), and The Sounds of Sweet Nothing; as well as a single on their own label, Blonde Dog. Influential local label Burger Records also put out a collection of the band's early recordings. These releases received international acclaim in the NME, MOJO, The New York Times, and Pitchfork, among other outlets. The Guardian UK deemed the group a "female Jesus and Mary Chain, whose vocals cut like honey-coated razor blades." Others have compared the band to Mazzy StarSpiritualized, and  The Velvet Underground , but Tashaki Miyaki considers film to be their closest muse. Band members cite David Lynch and his composer  Angelo Badalamenti , as well as Sergio Leone's partnership with  Ennio Morricone  to be as powerful an influence as music like Lou ReedNeil YoungDavid Bowie and My Bloody Valentine. Tashaki Miyaki's songs are designed with visual inspiration: seeing the band perform live is a multimedia experience, where their haunting music is paired with ever-changing, curated cinematic backdrops, creating a full sensory experience. Their dream-like aesthetic has been mirrored in stark and alluring music videos created by talented filmmaker and friend, Juan Iglesias. Tashaki Miyaki have toured and played festivals across North America, Europe and the UK. The band has also performed at art museums around the world, including The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona and MoMA, New York.

Tashaki Miyaki has spent the past couple years writing and recording their debut LP,  The Dream ,produced by Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist Paige Stark and engineered by Dan Horne (Cass McCombs, Allah Las). As a writer for The Fader once observed of the band’s hypnotic sound, “It's so pretty I’m afraid saying anything else might diminish it".  (click artwork for high res)Tashaki Miyaki

Slowdive Announce First Album in 22 Years

Slowdive Announce First Album in 22 Years

You read that correctly. Shoegaze legends Slowdive have announced their new record,  Slowdive out May 5th. Their first in 22 years, Slowdive is not unlike bumping into an old friend. There are familiar qualities, they're the same person and yet there's growth, there are things you find surprising, exciting, and new in this individual you've known for so long.

Slowdive is Neil Halstead (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Christian Savill (guitar), Nick Chaplin(bass), Rachel Goswell (vocals) and Simon Scott (drums, electronics). Throughout the recording process the group dynamic was all-important. "When you're in a band and you do three records, there's a continuous flow and a development. For us, that flow re-started with us playing live again and that has continued into the record," notes principle songwriter Neil Halstead.

Thus far they've shared two cuts from their forthcoming record. " Star Roving ", a full-throttle, windows-down euphoric jam, and " Sugar For The Pill ", a beautifully understated track indicative of the band's most direct material to date.  Pitchfork  named the latter Best New Track stating, "It's gorgeous, but grounded. In their newest incarnation, Slowdive have traded the abject longing of youth-an emotion that suffused so many shoegaze classics-for the wisdom of maturity. Every great band should age so well."

We're now 16 days out. That means in just a little over two weeks you can hear a new record from Slowdive. Wild right? In the meantime, you can secure your copy of Slowdive through our store. Consider it a gift to your future self. They'll be on tour in North America and playing a handful of festival dates throughout the world this summer. Scroll to the bottom to see if they're headed your way!

Burger Records Unveils New Lovely Bad Things Video

Burger Records Unveils New Lovely Bad Things Video
Burger Records recently release a new EP from Lovely Bad Things called Homebodied, and now the band is back with a new video from the release (see Ghettoblaster debut)....
Watch/Post: "Hiding To Nothing" Video
The legend of Lovely Bad Things began in an eerily boring town called La Mirada which is nestled between Los Angeles and Orange County, a fitting place for a band to find solace in music. Brothers Camron (guitar, vocals) and Brayden Ward (drums, vocals) met Lauren Curtius (guitar, vocals), Tim Hatch (guitar) and Wesley Baxter (bass) during their formative years, and joined forces to create a perfect blend of the most infectiously resonant aspects of their alternative and punk predecessors.
Lovely Bad Things offer a wild and humorous stage presence while effortlessly shredding the musical prowess they've spent the past 8 years cultivating. At one of their shows you're likely to be struck by Lauren's distinctly beautiful and powerful voice, Brayden's vehemently dynamic drumming, the solid and smooth bass of Wesley, and the mind melting trio of guitars shoved forever in your head by Tim, Camron and Lauren. They've played countless house shows and local venues, embarked on several cross-country solo tours, as well as with Best Coast and Diarrhea Planet, and have performed festivals including FYF, SXSW and Primavera Sound.
The music obsessed Lovely Bad Things' sound falls within the realm of Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Weezer and the like. Lovely Bad Things meticulously craft and distribute their music with a respectable DIY ethos. All album artwork and merch are made from scratch by Brayden, and each member of the band contributes in songwriting and multi-instrumentation. Their hard work puts a giant emphasis on the Grown Ups end, while their hilarious and charmingly chaotic energy screams Teenage. Whether you're in your own young confusion searching for music to make you feel like you're not alone, a music snob who has a pessimistic outlook on anything post 90's, or simply a lover of music, Lovely Bad Things should be in heavy rotation.

Praise For Lovely Bad Things"The boy-girl vocal exchange that powers this rambunctious quartet's infectious songs is positively Frank and Kim (Pixies), but the playful humor and slackerly vibes are their own, making the band's music an enticing addition to the conversation." - SPIN
"The band's live energy defines them, with a garage influence comparable to Burger Records graduates King Tuff and Ty Segall and a first single that could be the best cover of the Pixies ever if the Pixies had written the song." Paste
"If you take the energy of any of the aforementioned acts (Black Keys, Ty Segall and King Tuff), combine it with an optimistic pop charm and a LA-worthy pop culture obsession, you should have a good idea about Lovely Bad Things" - Ad Hoc
"...an homage to 90s rock with ragged riffs, crashing cymbals, and tragic lyrics inspired by the Pixies and Dinosaur Jr." Nylon

Welcome to LA’s Midnight Sister

The slinky, mysterious, cinematic music of Midnight Sister is brought to you by the isolating landscape of the San Fernando Valley — its colors, its diners, its lunatics, its neon lights. The duo of Juliana Giraffe and Ari Balouzian, lifelong residents of this storied valley, have only become more inspired by the area’s mythology over the years, its two-faced magical wonderland and tragic circus.Giraffe, 23, daughter of an LA disc jockey, was raised almost exclusively on disco and David Bowie. Her lyrics and lyrical melodies were composed gazing out from a tiny retail window on Sunset Boulevard. Her Rear Window-like longing allowed her imagination to run wild and cook up the wild narratives that would fill Balouzian’s compositions. Balouzian, 27, classically trained and already a go-to arranger for odd-pop names like Tobias Jesso Jr. and Alex Izenberg, is inspired by the immersive, almost visual language of Stravinsky and Ravel as much as the cinematic jeu d’esprit of Altman’s Brewster McCloud and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love — not to mention the beats of Madlib and Dilla. Their shared musical vision of LA is the ominous alley you must enter to have the stragespeakeasy night of your life. Our first listen and look into their askewniverse is “Leave You” (Directed by Juilana and Nicky Giraffe). It’s lithe, Jon Brion-meets-Broadcast arrangements are countered with striking visuals and a bold palette that, taken together, might be an experimental theater’s stage adaptation of a William Eggleston photograph. And this is is just the tip of this strange iceberg. Having performed with artists like Julia Holter, Future Islands and Alex Cameron over the last few months, Valley dwellers in the know have just begun to take account of this alluring new talent in their midst.

Woods shares lyric video for "Hit That Drum," via Stereogum, 'Love is Love' is out Friday

Woods shares lyric video for "Hit That Drum" via Stereogum, Love is Love is out digitally this Friday STREAM: "Hit That Drum"   -
YouTube
Stereogum  "We walked down streets and crammed onto trains, our faces masks of fear. Unsure how to react, we, collectively, did not react. We grieved for a country and an ideal we never thought would die. We grieved for a loss of certainty. We argued about what we thought would happen. We preached understanding. We advocated for anger. Some people said that we’d at least get some incredible art, other people said that was a small view of a world we were quickly realizing we’d misunderstood. Everyone was right. Everyone was wrong. Art made in precarious times matters as much as we let it matter. But what are we looking for from the art we enjoy? Escapism? A reckoning with harsh reality? A temporary shared hallucination? Music can heal because it presents the pain of being human as universal.Love is Love was written and recorded in the two months immediately following the election, but it’s not a record borne entirely of angry, knee-jerk reaction to what America is becoming. Instead, it’s a meditation on love, and on what life means now. Taking cues from last year’s City Sun Eater in the River of Light, it feels very much like a record made from living, shoulder to shoulder, in a major city: weaving psychedelic swirls of guitar between languid horns reminiscent of the best Ethiopian jazz—Love is Love is a distinctly New York record. It is a document of protest in uncertain times and an open-hearted rejection of cynicism in favor of emotional honesty. It is bright, and then, unexpectedly, a little dark sometimes too. There will be parts of life where we will watch as events unfold and we will feel helpless. We will not be sure of the future. On good days, we’ll have each other. On the bad ones, we’ll turn to the art that helps us feel something. Love is Love is a document of the new world we live in, proof that light can come from despair and hope is still possible. We just need a little help remembering it exists." - Sam Hockley-SmithRecorded November 2016 - January 2017. Six new songs in 32 minutes.Performers:Jeremy Earl - vocals, guitars, percussion

"...a stirring brand of buoyant, anthemic pop."
- The 405

"...a uniquely fresh sound that blends island-tinged pop with '80s-inspired production, dual vocals, and transcendent melodies."
- BillboardToday The 405 has premiered the new video from Frenship entitled "1000 Nights". When talking about the video the duo states, "We originally had the idea for the video out on a camping trip in Stanley, Idaho. We had just received the song back from mastering and took the first listen on the shore of Lake Stanley at the base of McGown Peak. This place inspired the idea, look and feel for the 1000 Nights video. With the idea in place we sought out a director that could fully capture beautiful shots outdoors and filmmaker Matt Kleiner perfectly fit the bill for this.  The video was shot at Diablo Lake in Washington State." The 'Truce' EP is out now on Columbia.
There's a strong contrarian streak in FRENSHIP, the Los Angeles-based duo of James Sunderland and Brett Hite. James grew up in Colorado and relocated to LA after 4 years of college studying production, where he was part of a DJ duo that didn't work out. Brett grew up in Spokane, Washington with a passion for soccer. An injury led him to discover a burgeoning interest in music and he began to play coffee shops and small venues after college as a singer/songwriter.

Brett and James met while working retail in LA and began to realize they each brought something to the table musically that the other could appreciate. They describe their hypnotic production as a combination of the twosome's affection for 80s-styled pop.

The duo signed on with Columbia Records and subsequently released their debut EP, Truce, in September 2016.

FRENSHIP's platinum-selling single “Capsize” was one of the most viral hits of 2016, surpassing 20 million streams in its first month and collecting over 300 million to date. Spotify crowned them #2 Breakout Artist of the year due to the song's chart performance.

Las Rosas share video via Observer

LAS ROSAS SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR "BAD UNIVERSE"VIA FEATURE IN  OBSERVER
DEBUT ALBUM  EVERYONE GETS EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT OUT NOW ON ERNEST JENNING RECORD CO.
WATCH // EMBED "BAD UNIVERSE" VIDEO
"If Las Rosas can keep delivering tracks like ["Boys"], it won't be too much longer
before they find even greater success. " -  Consequence of Sound
"["Black Cherry"]'s luminous, moon-eyed pop vibes are delivered with authority and muscle, recalling some of the most exciting work by Shannon and the Clams." -  Pitchfork
Ernest Jenning Record Co. is proud to share the video for New York City trio Las Rosas' " Bad Universe ," the latest from their recent debut album  Everyone Gets Exactly What They Want . Observer  premiered the video in an in-depth feature about the band, noting that "Las Rosas take care to build songs with the minor refrains and plotted turns of a composer's brain without the hubris or arrogance that might otherwise keep them at a distance from their people." The video is available to stream or embed  HERE , and Everyone Gets Exactly What They Want can be streamed in full  HERE
The band has some hometown shows scheduled throughout the summer, including dates at The Knitting Factory with L.A. Witch on April 25Our Wicked Lady with Champagne SuperChillinon May 13, and Baby's All Right with The Nude Party on August 17. More shows will be added as they are confirmed.
Las Rosas are at the top of their game -- with their debut album Everyone Gets Exactly What They Want now in stores and a month and a half of European tour dates under their belt, as well as knockout appearances at SXSW 2017, and US touring through the rest of the year, things have never looked brighter for the New York City trio. Before Las Rosas, these three gents did time in critically acclaimed and like-minded acts including Harlem and Wild Yaks, and those experiences have been distilled into a singular LP that combines wit and humor with sneering, whip-smart garage rock.
Much like the personalities that comprise the group, the music on the record isn't easily defined or confined -- the muscular charisma of "Boys" sidles up comfortably alongside the groovy optimism of "The Red Zone," just as the breezy "Bad Universe" is right at home with the crunchy malaise and social consciousness of "Cops."
Everyone's 13 tracks carry the listener through a medley of styles, mid-song tempo changes and unexpected chord patterns that keep things engaging from front to back. Despite the stylistic variation, the album has a cohesiveness that usually only comes after years of performing as a unit, and the airtight songwriting is matched only by the group's locked-in playing. By turns sinister and sincere, the album is as enigmatic as any you're likely to hear in 2017.

Set for May 23rd and 24th at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, the second annual two-night concert event will see an extraordinary and eclectic array of artists paying tribute to the music of Bob Dylan with unprecedented performances of their favorite Dylan songs. In addition to ringing in Bob's 76th - he was born on May 24th, 1941 - the concerts will also celebrate Dylan's recent Nobel Prize win, and mark the 50th anniversary of his 1967 masterpiece, John Wesley Harding, recorded at Columbia's Studio A in Nashville.
"After last year's joyous Dylan Fests at the Ryman, we hope to make his birthday party in Music City an annual event, and we hereby invite Dylan's most fervent fans from all over the world to join us," says Best Fest co-founder Austin Scaggs. "Dylan's words and music give meaning to our lives, and to honor Bob and raise money and awareness for a wonderful charity is a win-win."

Once again, The Best Fest is proud to have Jameson Irish Whiskey on board as sponsor.  The Fests started in the same New York community of bartenders, musicians, and craftsmen that adopted Jameson as their drink of choice. The Best Fest and Jameson forged a relationship based on similar values, shared appreciation and interest in spreading the community spirit.
The Best Fest is proud to announce a new partnership with Acme Elixirs, a California-based cannabis company that uses the latest technology and intellectual property to create organically derived cannabis oil and CBDs-using a process without harmful solvents or dangerous additives."Acme Elixirs is at the forefront of the cannabis revolution and we are proud to officially welcome them into the Fest family," says Scaggs.
No artist is nearer and dearer to the heart of the Fests than Bob Dylan. It was on the occasion of Dylan's 60th birthday that the first Fest took place, in 2001, at Manitoba's bar on Avenue B in New York City's East Village.
