The Californian 5-piece will release Something More! on Vagrant/BMG on May 19th, 2017, the band’s first release since 2015’s acclaimed What’s Real. Written and recorded over the past year in LA,following big-time touring runs with the likes of Weezer, Tegan and Sara, and Matt and Kim, the album came together after the five-piece band returned home and were forced to confront the day-to-day realities of everyday life.

Lead singer Van Pierszalowski says, "'Stand By You' is about young love in a claustrophobic small town where you can't even go to the grocery store without gossip following you and where it can feel like everyone is against everyone else. It is about building a wall around that relationship and living only in it and for it letting everyone else fuck off. "
WATERS play at The Roxy in Los Angeles on June 8th.

Early Praise for  Something More! :

“Hiccups”...has a Weezer-ish sort of power-pop sneer, but with Beatlesy melodies and atmospherics.” -  BlackBook

POLY STYRENE: I AM A CLICHÉ - NEW TRAILER - This week marks the 6th anniversary of the punk icons death

‘Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché’
Today we remember Marianne Joan Elliott-Said, AKA Poly Styrene (3 July 1957 – 25 April 2011). Singer, seeker, maverick, mother and icon.
Watch the brand new trailer  here
IndieGoGo crowdfunding details  here

This week marks the 6th anniversary of punk icon Poly Styrene’s tragic passing, leaving behind a truly unique legacy, an inspiration to countless people across the world from all walks of life.
To coincide with this and the 40th anniversary of the seminal X-Ray Spex album ‘Germfree Adolescents’a new film called ‘Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché’ is in the works. Fund-raising continues via IndieGoGo, with a cinema date set for November 2018. In celebration, the site will also be listing a number of rare X-Ray Spex posters and original vinyl LPs in the final week of the campaign.
"I'm hugely thankful for the fantastic show of support to get us to almost half of our crowdfunding total. There's still a long way to go, so with one week remaining of the campaign we've put together a new teaser trailer, which shows my mother at her brilliant best." Celeste Bell, Narrator and Executive Producer
Bi-racial, female, working class and possessing one of the most satirical perspectives in punk, X-Ray Spex founder Poly Styrene was, as Billboard proclaimed, "one of the least conventional front-persons in rock history".
Poly was responsible for some of the most original, intelligent and exiting music ever made, but beyond the songs, the look and that warrior-cry voice, her fascinating and sometimes frightening story, incorporating struggles with misogyny, racism and mental health issues, has remained largely untold. Until now.
"Poly Styrene remains one of the most original and dynamic voices in popular culture of the past forty years. We're aiming to make a film that reflects her effervescent and vivid life, and provide a fitting cinematic tribute to her legacy as an artist and icon." Paul Sng, Director
In this feature-length documentary, the jigsaw pieces of Poly’s life will be brought together for the first time. Original interviews, new research and previously unseen archive material are combined to present a thrilling, poetic and at times impressionistic portrait of a singer, seeker and mother. Underscored with Poly’s music from throughout her career, ‘I Am A Cliché’ celebrates one of punk’s most uncompromising icons.
"To see how far and wide the campaign to fund this film has gone is testament to Poly's importance and enduring relevance as an artist, and shows how very loved and respected she is. It is vital that we celebrate and commemorate positive figures like Poly and carry their flame into the future, so those who didn't have the benefit of having known her or seen her perform can still experience her work and be inspired. With the support of her fans, we can make a film that truly reflects what was so special about her." Zoë Howe, Writer
Narrated by Poly’s daughter Celeste Bell, the film will examine the past through the lens of the present, by revisiting pivotal moments and significant spaces in Poly’s history, while at the same time raising awareness of the issues she struggled with - and rose above - throughout her life.
"This film will be a celebration of the life and work of my mother, an artist who deserves to be recognised as one of the greatest front women of all time; a little girl with a big voice whose words are more relevant than ever.” Celeste Bell
‘I Am A Cliché’ director Paul Sng has previously won widespread acclaim for his film ‘Sleaford Mods - Invisible Britain’The film was written by Zoë Howe, who penned the biographies ‘Typical Girls? The Story of The Slits’ and ‘Barbed Wire Kisses - The Jesus and Mary Chain Story’.

Adia Victoria Debuts Short Film - "How It Feels"

ADIA VICTORIA RELEASES SHORT FILM "HOW IT FEELS"OUT TODAY
WATCH HERE

As a companion to Adia Victoria's recently released French-language EP, How It Feels, she's debuted a short film by the same name out today. Dangerous Minds debuted the film describing Adia's "21st-century take on the blues as Jeffrey Lee Pierce reincarnated as Ronnie Spektor." The film was shot in Paris during a recent tour of Europe and features performance footage of the EP's material including one original by Adia - "You Know How it Feels," two Francoise Hardy covers and "Laissez Tomber Les Filles" written by Serge Gainsbourg and popularized by France Gall.

LISTEN TO 'HOW IT FEELS' Adia notes, "I wanted this EP to take on a more eerie feel. Instead of the imagined dream pop girl wishing for her man to come home I reimagined the lyrics as sung by a lover scorned but still love sick and obsessed. I wanted to keep the timeless feel of these songs while breathing into them a bit of modernity; sharpen the edges a bit. What if 'Parlez Moi de Lui' were more of a hazey, trip out love letter from a woman still haunted by lost love. What if her in deranged mind her man still danced in and out of sight, just out of touch? I wanted to inject 'Laissez Tomber Les Filles' with a bit of the anger and danger I felt as a new political era descended on our country. This session would prove to be therapeutic in channeling my frustration with the current political landscape into powerful songs sung by iconic, emotional women. This EP was a way express all these feelings in a tangible way. There is so much emotionality to women that is often policed. This project gave me the chance to shake off those restrictions, free myself from my own mother tongue and speak in universal themes that flow beyond the borders of language."
How It Feels marks the first new music Adia has released since her critically acclaimed debut Beyond The Bloodhounds.

Adia Victoria will play select dates throughout the summer including direct support for three Sturgill Simpson shows in July. In addition she has now confirmed a slot at the XPoNential Festival on July 30 in Camden, NJ.  Her current touring schedule is:
July 7 - Charlotte, NC - Charlotte Metro Credit Union *July 8 - Cary, NC - Koka Booth Ampitheatre*July 14 - Atlanta, GA - Fox Theatre*July 15-16 - Louisville, KY - Forecastle FestivalJuly 30 - Camden, NJ - XPoNential Music Festival

Baaba Maal partners with charity: water

BAABA MAAL
ANNOUNCES ALL PROFITS FROM EXCLUSIVE DIGITAL REISSUE OF THE TRAVELLER TO GO TO charity: water
"I am so happy to be working with charity: water because I believe that together, if everyone embraces this project, we can bring clean water to the people who need it" --BAABA MAAL

Baaba Maal Official Website | Baaba Maal Official Facebook
Today Senegalese, Grammy-nominated musician Baaba Maal announces he will be putting out an exclusive digital reissue of his critically acclaimed album The Traveller along with a never-before-seen documentary. All proceeds from the album reissue (after credit card fees) will be going exclusively to charity: water, a non profit organization whose mission is to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries.
This exclusive digital reissue of  The Traveller  is only available via Baaba's website. It features a new 50-minute documentary of his annual Blues Du Fleuve Festival in Senegal as well as a 12-minute short film featuring Baaba performing acoustically and talking about his involvement with charity: water. Here is a three minute clip:

Baaba Maal is a United Nations ambassador and is committed to advocating for women's as well as children's rights across Africa.  A chance introduction between Baaba Maal and the charity at a private screening of his Blues Du Fleuve documentary resulted in this collaboration. After releasing  The Traveller  last year, Baaba Maal went on to record a 5-track EP withMumford & Sons titled  Johannesburg  and will be appearing with them live at this year's Latitude festival in England.
Notes to editors regarding charity: water *charity: water is a non-profit organization on a mission to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries. *charity: water uses 100% of public donations to directly fund sustainable water solutions in areas of greatest need. A generous group of private donors funds their operating costs so that the organization doesn't have to use a single penny for overhead. *They believe in showing people exactly where their money goes. Every time they complete a water project, they post GPS coordinates, photos and a brief description of the project on Google Maps. It's just one of the ways they're reinventing charity - holding themselves accountable to the highest level of transparency. *Right now 663 million on the planet don't have access to clean and safe drinking water. *Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren't strong enough to fight diarrhoea, dysentery and other illnesses. *When a community gets access to clean water, it can change just about everything. It can improve health, increase access to food, grow local economies, and help kids spend more time in school.

Anna Coogan's THE LONELY CRY OF SPACE & TIME Streaming in Full at IMPOSE Ahead of Release this Friday

ANNA COOGANLONELY CRY OF SPACE & TIME STREAMING IN FULL AT IMPOSE
AHEAD OF RELEASE

NEW ALBUM AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE THIS FRIDAY
"Anna Coogan is the most interesting person we know."
Impose Magazine

"Coogan’s introspective tunes comes from a place where the line between poignant
songwriting and echoey indie rock collides completely."
- Glide Magazine
New York, NY (April 25, 2017) – Employing a three-octave range and the ability to create electric guitar soundscapes and turn them into pointed social commedntary, guitarist  Anna Coogan  will release her operatic rock album,  The Lonely Cry of Space & Time  this Friday, April 28.  For those who can't wait until then, Anna has given  IMPOSE  the exclusive first listen along with an extensive Q&A on the album. IMPOSE commends, "Addressing many big political points in a beautiful – and instrumentally colossal – way, we’ve been infatuated with the eleven track stunner since we first pressed 'play' on it."Hear The Lonely Cry of Space &Time @ Imposehttp://bit.ly/2q7AASz
Essentially a two-person effort, The Lonely Cry of Space & Time features Willy B (Brian Wilson) on drums and Moog bass and Anna on guitar, as well as showing off her vast vocal range. Together, the two were able to combine the personal and political in a musical hybrid of rock, country, pop and classical opera into a unique whole.

There have been many attempts at rock opera in the past, but The Lonely Cry of Space & Time is something different.  Call it operatic rock, a genre previously explored by the likes of Kate Bush, Jane Siberry, Lene Lovich, Yoko Ono and Freddie Mercury, among others. Coogan studied opera at the prestigious Mozarteum University of Salzburg in Austria, before moving to Seattle, where she worked as a fisheries biologist in Washington State and Alaska, which goes a long way to explaining her frequent use of water as a metaphor.

The Family Crest: Mr. Peabody & Sherman + New Album

THE FAMILY CREST TO RELEASE NEW EP AND KICK OFF NATIONAL HEADLINING TOUR THIS FRIDAY
BAND MAKES AN ANIMATED GUEST APPEARANCEIN THE NEW SEASON OF THE MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN SHOWThis Friday April 28th, The Family Crest will release their new EP “Prelude To War” and kick off a 5-week national headlining tour in support.

Additionally, the band released a new song “Only A Minute” written exclusively for the new season of DreamWorks Animation Television's “The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show” now streaming on Netflix. The band also has the privilege to say they’ve been animated for Episode 13 of season 4, where they float through a galaxy playing music in the stars with Shakespeare, Martin Luther King and Neil Armstrong.“When I was given the theme of the episode: reflecting on historic figures and their forms of advocacy and using their mark as inspiration for what we can do now was really timely,” says songwriter Liam McCormick. “Right now the world seems filled with anger and divisiveness, and I think it must be extremely confusing for children. The idea that the producers had of looking backwards to see all of the people that worked peacefully throughout history to achieve positive outcomes is exactly what we all need to be exposed to right now. This was such a special thing to be a part of and we're really proud to have been included.”

“Prelude To War” is the first installment of a broader upcoming project “The War” and is earning early raves. NPR’s All Songs said first song Mirror Love "a track urging people to express their political dismay … extends into new sonic territory for the group, capturing the late '70s sounds of the Bee Gees in both beat and chorus.” Paste Magazine goes on to say "If their first released song, 'Mirror Love,' was a call to arms, then [new song] ‘Sparks' is a call to love - and a pretty convincing one, at that. The song is upbeat, strings-heavy and full of joyous emotion … if ‘Sparks’ is an indicator of what’s to come on the band’s new EP, it could be quite the hit album”

“Prelude To War” is the follow up to the band’s LP “Beneath The Brine” which earned the group a spot on Paste Magazine’s “20 Best New Bands” and an album WNYC called "a complex and sweeping soundscape that gives every song a sense of cinematic scope as Liam McCormick’s soaring vocals shake the rafters.”

2017 North American tour dates Shabazz Palaces will release the Quazarz: Born On A Gangster Star, their spectral third album, worldwide on July 14th through Sub Pop. The album, featuring highlights “Shine A Light” (ft. Thaddillac), “Since Caya,” and “Moon Whip Quaz” (ft. Darrius),  was produced by Knife Knights (aka Ishmael Butler and Erik Blood) and recorded and mixed by Blood at Protect and Exalt Labs: A Black Space in Seattle. Quazarz: Born On A Gangster Star is the follow-up and first batch of new material since the group’s critically acclaimed Lese Majesty, which was released in 2014.

You can now watch a lyric video for “Shine A Light” directed byCristina T. Bercovitz and Jonathan Snipes of Clipping [watch here]. Quazarz: Born On A Gangster Star serves as both an introduction and tells the tale of Quazarz, a sentient being from somewhere else, an observer sent here to Amurderca to chronicle and explore as a musical emissary. What he finds in our world is a cutthroat place, a landscape where someone like him could never quite feel comfortable amidst all the brutality and alternative facts and death masquerading as connectivity.

The Palaceer of Shabazz Palaces says of his extraterrestrial persona:  “I, Quazarz, Born On A Gangster Star, son only of Barbara Dream Caster and Reginald The Dark Hoper - he who rides on light - dreamer of the seventh dream and kissed eternal by Awetthe Sun Scented - who far from home I found my same self differents in those constellies that be Dai at my weap-side immediate and all us Water Guild affiliates who revelries in the futures passed recordings and ceremonies  flexing resplendent  in the Paradise Sportif armor -  raising these musics a joy/cry that way into these aquadescent diamondized ethers of theMigosphere here on Drake world. Welcome To Quazarz.”
