Vacant Lots' New Album "Endless Night" Out Today!

VACANT LOTS ENDLESS NIGHT OUT TODAY, APRIL 21
ALBUM FEATURES VOX BY ALAN VEGA
SHOWS CONFIRMED IN LOS ANGELES & NEW YORK CITY

Congratulations to Vacant Lots whose new album,  Endless Night  on April 21 is out today. You can listen here via Spotify
Vacant Lots have confirmed two US shows in additional to a European tour. They will be playing at The Echo in Los Angeles on May 14 and Brooklyn's Sunnyvale on June 30.
Vacant Lots is the duo of Jared Artaud and Brian MacFadyen and Endless Night is the band's follow up to their 2014 debut Departure. On the new LP the NYC/Burlington, VT-based band continues to channel the pair's dual power through their minimal means maximum effect aesthetic. Endless Night is a bridge of two worlds with one foot firmly placed in hard-hitting rock and roll, and the other in the realm of electronic dance. Poetic, but with a streetwise swagger.
Endless Night was born through travels around the world with intensive writing sessions in Brooklyn, California and New Jersey.  These came in-between supporting Suicide in New York City at Webster Hall, and extensive European tours throughout 2015 and 2016. Initial recording sessions commenced with Ted Young in Brooklyn, but the final mixing and production was done when Artaud and MacFadyen were given a set of keys to the studio and left to their own devices.
Through a detached yet accessibly channeled dark-pop vision, and electrifying primitive punk spirit, Vacant Lots cut through the dark.  This ethos is one they especially understand after working with their hero, friend and punk ally, Suicide'Alan Vega. A few weeks before his sudden death in 2016, Jared visited Alan's Manhattan apartment to play the finished album, since Alan was going to write lyrics and record vocals for the album's "Suicide Note."  After he passed away, the band received permission to go through Vega's vault to find a vocal track for the song. After selecting an unreleased Vega track, they played it with the instrumental version of "Suicide Note" and realized it was a perfect fit.

MORE PRAISE FOR GUPPY:"There's no filler here, just 10 ramshackle pop songs - rough around the edges but so well constructed that they stick in your brain like fresh bubblegum." -The Ringer
"Their songs can be thoughtful, and they can be cathartic, but they're always driven by a sense of fun, by giddy hooks and forward propulsion. They write great choruses and even better bridges." -Stereogum
"Irresistible, combustible, sleek, and sparkling... one of my favorite records of the year." -Bandcamp
"An impressive debut... the New Yorkers freshen up their nostalgia with whip-smart lyricism and unimpeachable hooks." -Entertainment Weekly
ABOUT CHARLY BLISS:If it's true that listening to just the right record at just the right moment can psychically transport you to some other time and place, then Charly Bliss-an NYC band responsible for having crafted some of the finest guitar-crunched power pop this side of an old Weezer record with a blue cover-can pretty much turn any space into an adult-friendly version of your old teenage bedroom, a candy-scented safe space for extreme fits of happiness and angsty teen-level explosions of romantic ennui.
Though Charly Bliss has been a band for over half a decade, the path that led to their first full-length record, Guppy, has been anything but straightforward. As the story goes, the band officially started when frontwoman Eva Hendricks and guitarist Spencer Fox, both just 15, crossed paths at a Tokyo Police Club show in New York City, but the ties within the band go much deeper than that. "It's kind of insane and hilarious," says Eva, "Sam is my older brother, so obviously we've known each other our whole lives, but all of us have been connected to each other since we were little kids. Dan Shure and I dated when we were in our early teens and he and Spencer went to summer camp together. Dan and I broke up years ago, but eventually he'd become our bass player. The reason we all get along so well has to do with the fact we share this ridiculous history. We are all deeply embedded in each other's lives."
After spending years playing shows in and around New York City, the band eventually released an EP (2014's Soft Serve) and scored opening gigs for the likes of Glass Animals, Darwin Deez, Tokyo Police Club, Sleater-Kinney, as well as a touring spot for their own musical forebears, Veruca Salt. Even though the band had amassed a sizable fanbase and a reputation as a truly formidable live act, the goal of making a full-length record proved to be a fraught series of false-starts. Given their propensity for making hooky, ebullient pop songs, the band often felt out of step with what was happening around them in Brooklyn. ("We weren't weird in the right ways," says Sam). They eventually set about recording an album on their own-and then recording it twice-before figuring out what had been staring them in the face the entire time. "We basically had to come to terms with the fact that we are, at heart, a pop band," recalls Spencer. "Before, it was always trying to decide which of the songs would be more 'rock' and which would be more poppy, but we eventually realized we needed to meet in the middle, we had to create an ecosystem where our loud, messy rock sounds could co-exist with these super catchy melodies and pop hooks. It was really about realizing what we're best at as a band."
The ten tracks that make up Guppy, Charly Bliss' sparkling full-length debut, show the band embracing all of their strengths-a combination of ripping guitars and irrepressible pop hooks, all delivered with the hyper-enthusiasm of a middle school cafeteria food fight. That every track is loaded front-to-back with sing/shout-worthy lyrics and earworm melodies is a testament to the band's commitment to the art form of pop songwriting. Opening track "Percolator" sets the tone-all power riffs and yo-yo-ing melodies playing against Hendricks' acrobatic vocals, which veer from gentle coo to an emphatic squeal.
I'm gonna die in the getaway car! I would try but it sounds too hard!  It's a vibe that carries throughoutGuppy, a record that shares an undeniable kinship with 90's alt-rockers like Letters to Cleo and That Dog-bands that balanced melodicism, sugary vocals, and overdriven guitar turned up to 11. It's an aesthetic that Charly Bliss both embraces and improves upon in tracks like "Ruby" ("We actually wrote the guitar solo by sitting in a circle and passing the guitar around, each of us adding our own notes," says Fox) and "Glitter", the record's first single. "I wanted to make a song about being romantically involved with someone who makes you kind of hate yourself because they are so much like you," says Hendricks, "A fun song about complicated self-loathing that you could also dance around your bedroom to-that kind of sums us up as a band, actually."
"Pop music can actually be very subversive," she continues. "The lyrics that I'm most proud of on the record are me existing both in and out of this overgrown teenybopper feeling-feeling like everything I was going through was the most extreme thing that had ever happened to anyone ever. The songs are often about being totally in the throes of this stuff, but also being able to step out of it and make fun of myself. It's possible to write songs that really get at all of these dark feelings while also just being really fun to sing and dance to. You can be serious and also sing about peeing while jumping on a trampoline."
Guppy is a record that doesn't so much seek to reinvent the pop wheel so much as gleefully refine it.  "People forget sometimes that expressing joy is just as important as examining despair," says Shure. "People need joy, especially right now. We're all about writing tight pop songs, but also giving people this super enthusiastic release. These songs are kind of the sound of expressing something that you can't really contain. These are songs you play really loudly when you need to freak out."

Justin Townes Earle's "There Go A Fool" Premieres At Garden & Gun, 'Kids In The Street' Out May 26 On New West

JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE RETURNS WITH  KIDS IN THE STREET MAY 26th, 2017 VIA NEW WEST RECORDS
GARDEN & GUN PREMIERES ALBUM TRACK “THERE GO A FOOL
TO APPEAR AT THIS YEAR’S STAGECOACH FESTIVAL
SPRING TOUR DATES WITH THE SADIES AS HIS BACKING & SUPPORT BAND ANNOUNCED “Justin Townes Earle’s Kids In The Street is his finest album to date.” UPROXX  Justin Townes Earle is set to release his New West Records debut Kids In The Street on May 26th. The 12-song set was produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit) at his ARC Studios, and is the first time in his career that Earle has worked with an outside producer.  Kids In The Street marks a decade into Earle’s recording career and follows his acclaimed companion albums Single Mothers (2014) and Absent Fathers (2015).  The deeply soulful set is both emotionally riveting and effortlessly uplifting.  Now embracing sobriety, marriage, and impending fatherhood, Earle is enthusiastically looking to the future. “Life has changed a lot for me in the last few years,” Earle reflects. “I got married and am getting ready to become a father, and this is the first record that I’ve written since I’ve been married. There’s definitely an uplifting aspect to this record in a lot of ways, because I’m feeling pretty positive.” He continues, “When I wrote songs in the past, I was looking in on what I was feeling, but this record’s more about looking outward on what’s happening, and writing about subjects like gentrification and inner city strife. This record also has more of a soul influence to it, and it’s got a deeper connection to the blues than anything I’ve done before.”  Garden & Gun premiered the album closer “There Go A Fool” this week and can be heard HERE.  UPROXX previously premiered the album track “Faded Valentine” HERE, hailing Kids In The Street as Earle’s “finest record to date,” while Vice’s music site Noisey premiered album opener, “Champagne Corolla,” which can be heard HERE.  Kids In the Street will be available on vinyl, compact disc, and digitally.  The album is now available for pre-order via PledgeMusic including an exclusive, limited edition colored vinyl version of the LP, cassette tape, and a special 7” single including “Maybe A Moment” as well as Earle’s reading of Paul Simon’s “Graceland.”  Several of the songs on Kids On The Street reference the lower-middle-class Nashville neighborhoods of Earle’s youth, which in recent years some say have lost their character to the creeping scourge of gentrification.  Significantly, the album is the first of Earle’s not recorded in Nashville.  “It’s the first time that I’ve worked outside of my usual umbrella of people to make a record,” Earle explains, adding “In Nashville, if you have the right connections, it’ll spoil the shit out of you, because you’ve got access to the best musicians in the world and the best studios in the world. If you had told me when I started making records, that I wasn’t gonna make every record in Nashville, I would have told you you were crazy.  And if you’d told me that I’d end up making a record in Omaha, I’d tell you you were out of your freaking mind.”   Earle’s fierce fidelity to his creative muse has been a consistent thread throughout his young life. Born in Nashville on January 4th, 1982, he grew up as the son of country-rock iconoclast Steve Earle, who gave him his middle name in honor of his mentor, the brilliant songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Justin quickly came into his own as a songwriter and performer, displaying a natural talent for deeply revealing lyrics that reflected his often-harsh life experiences, and a musical approach that effortlessly integrated elements of blues, folk, and country. His 2007 debut EP Yuma set the stage for a steady stream of acclaimed albums.  Justin Townes Earle will take to the road this Spring with his longtime guitarist Paul Niehaus alongside The Sadies as his backing band (they will also support each show). The full band tour will kick off on April 27th in Santa Barbara, with his appearance at this year’s Stagecoach Festival in Indio, CA immediately following.  Please see all dates below, with more to be added soon. Kids In The Street Track Listing: 1. It should come as no surprise to fans of the Chilean trio Föllakzoid that upon meeting the legendary Jason Pierce a.k.a. J. Spaceman (Spacemen 3, Spiritualized), they discovered they were kindred spirits. Föllakzoid and Spaceman's projects share a restless drive to explore the outer limits of music, as well as an uncanny ability to lock into a groove until it infiltrates the deepest recesses of the listener's psyche. When Föllakzoid met Spaceman backstage at a Wooden Shjips gig at London's Electric Ballroom several years ago, they instantly became friends.
For London Sessions, the Chileans and Spaceman joined forces for new, live-to-tape renditions of "Electric" and "Earth," two highlights from Föllakzoid's III. The recordings were made in a private studio in London while Föllakzoid was on tour in Europe in June 2016, and Spaceman's contributions breathe new life into the songs.
"Jason added a very different harmonic atmosphere to the songs," guitarist Domingo Garcia-Huidobro explained. "It somehow re-articulated the space and metric that already existed in a way the band never could. These new versions have a different edge."
