Seu Jorge continues acclaimed tour of "The Life Aquatic - A Tribute to David Bowie"

INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED BRAZILIAN SINGER-SONGWRITER/ACTOR SEU JORGE CONTINUES THE LIFE AQUATIC – A TRIBUTE TO DAVID BOWIE TOUR IN CITIES ACROSS NORTH AMERICA THIS JUNEConcerts Will Feature Bowie Songs Jorge Interpreted in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Jorge’s “uncluttered arrangement calls attention to the ingenious architecture of Bowie’s songs”
– Los Angeles Times

Though Seu Jorge is one of Brazil’s most celebrated singers and actors, he is perhaps best known here in the U.S. for his role in Wes Anderson’s 2004 film  The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou , in which Jorge reinterpreted a number of David Bowie’s biggest hits. The songs, performed in Portuguese and featuring Jorge solo on acoustic guitar, became something entirely unique. So much so that Bowie himself was moved to say, “Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese, I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.” Jorge will perform these songs, and those he recorded for the 2005 album The Life Aquatic – Studio Sessions featuring Seu Jorge, in his critically acclaimed live show  The Life Aquatic – A Tribute to David Bowie , which will tour North American in June.
Please see below for a full itinerary of shows. Tickets are on sale now.
The Life Aquatic – A Tribute to David Bowie will feature a set and costumes designed by Creative Directors Mariana Jorge and Danny Perez, both members of the original The Life Aquatic creative team. Jorge will perform on a stage reminiscent of the film set, with boat sails functioning as screens displaying images throughout the set. Yet even with such a simple set up, the Los Angeles Times writes in a glowing review, Jorge brings what feels like “infinite detail and emotion to the songs.”
As a singer, Seu Jorge was part of the Brazilian band Farofa Carioca, writing most of the songs of their 1998 debut album Moro no Brasil. His first solo album was 2001’s Samba Esporte Fino, a pop album influenced by musicians iconic Brazilian artists Jorge Ben Jor, Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento, and released outside Brazil under the name Carolina in 2003. He followed up with the critically acclaimed 2005 album  Cru  (Raw), which The Guardian called “a magnificent record,” and which prompted Pitchfork to praise Jorge’s voice as “at once buttery, soulful, and fierce.” He since has gone on to release five studio albums and collaborate with the likes of Beck, Talib Kweli and even the fashion designer Rachel Roy.As an actor, Jorge came to fame with his breakout performance as Knockout Ned in Fernando Meirelles critically acclaimed feature filmCity of God (2002). After his performance as the guitar strumming deckhand Pelé dos Santos in The Life Aquatic (2004), and the praise he received for his Bowie covers, Jorge released The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions, which, AllMusic wrote, “retains the original framing of the Bowie classics, while injecting a sunny island sweetness into their very core.”

Today, Japanese Breakfast has shared a music video for "Machinist," the lead single from her new album, Soft Sounds From Another Planet, available for pre-order now and due out July 14th on Dead Oceans.
The follow up to Japanese Breakfast's critically acclaimed debut is a work of self-reflection that looks out at the cosmos in search of healing, finding inspiration in science fiction, outer space, and the Mars One Project. This influence is most apparent in the video for "Machinist," Michelle Zauner's fourth music video collaboration with House of Nod's Adam Kolodny.
Video director, Zauner says "the song is a sci-fi narrative about a woman who falls in love with a robot. In the video she hallucinates on rocket fuel and tears apart her spaceship in an attempt to build a body for her robot lover," while director of photography, Adam Kolodny, says they "were inspired by 2001A Space Odyssey, Alien, 2046, and The Fifth Element."

Japanese Breakfast is currently on tour with Slowdive and has upcoming dates with Tegan and Sara, (Sandy) Alex G and Cende. All dates below.

TV BABY SHARES "SWAMP BEAT" TRACK VIA BROOKLYN VEGAN

TV BABY SHARES "SWAMP BEAT" TRACK VIA BROOKLYN VEGAN

PLAYING BABY'S ALL RIGHT NYC THIS SUNDAY 5/7

DIGNITY DON'T DANCE LP OUT JUNE 9TH ON DEUS RECORDS Photo Cred: Nevin Pontious LISTEN & SHARE: TV Baby - "Swamp Beat" Track

WATCH & SHARE: TV Baby - "Klerin Priest" Video "With throbbing synths, sweeping guitar, and lyrics both poetic and streetwise, TV Baby have created a sound that captures both the angst and optimism of their time." - Purple TV Baby shares their new track "Swamp Beat" today via Brooklyn Vegan.  The track is from the band's debut album Dignity Don't Dance which was produced by Gabriel Andruzzi (The Rapture) and mixed by Ewan Pearson. You can listen to the track here.

The NYC-based duo consisting of Matt Mcauley and Brian Peck (both formerly of A.R.E. Weapons) will also be playing a show this Sunday, May 7th at Baby's All Right in NYC with ESCAPE-ism (Ian Svenonius) & Chorizo. You can find more info and tickets here.

Dignity Don't Dance  is due for release June 9th via Deus Records. T.V. Baby is a project that came to life during 2016 in a makeshift hideaway deep within a remote corridor of industrial New York City.

The romantic isolation of their decaying surroundings leant its vibe to the otherwise occupied musicians as they intuitively explored their formative musical experiences while playing at shifting their roles around within the band. From these changing dynamics, the close friends' debut album Dignity Don’t Dance was born. It comes on the label Deus Records, an imprint that continues the great independent NY tradition of dropping highly danceable music with rootsy, rock n roll swagger.

The Long Player format allows the band to meld the most naïve aspects of punk meets pop with mature, expansive and explorative grooves across ten tracks. Initially a set of sketches, the material soon became earworms that the band revelled in refining together. It is something that sits naturally with the three-piece and the result of their adaptations and challenging each other afresh is an immersive experience where the joy of creation is ever present for the listener.

The LP shows TV Baby taking hold of many sounds and combine them into something that is distinctly their own. Although rooted in electronic sounds, the unashamed and unmistakable homage to many seminal New York bands bubbles to the surface on each of Dignity Don’t Dance’s tracks. The rawest themes of lust, love, sexuality and abandon keep the album mercurial and constantly shifting in its form – from track to track and from bar to bar. This dynamism is guided by respect for the five classical elements and topped off with a mix down from Berlin based Brit Ewan Pearson.

With the needle in the groove tracks of soaring ease can give into taut introspection and moments of bracing sensuality. Mechanical funk, laden with lucid dreams and chemical illusions vie with raw, earthy anthems from the basement and garage. Loose limbed abandon is born from rum soaked, and acid flecked AOR.Distinct from its musical roots and remote from a scene or set of influences, Dignity Don’t Dance is a kaleidoscopic conveyor of familiar mantras hazily recalled, jacked up and reimagined with the ease of a collective fully in tune with itself.
