Could it be because today people have food allergies? And many people have uncommon ones. Like lemon, banana, grapes, peach, pineapple, avocado, cherry, etc. those are not the Top 8 food allergies in the US but people can be allergic to anything.

Why am I not surprised that Rainy 's attempt to cook a treat turned into a total disaster? Even I think trying to melt that stuff is asking for trouble, especially if her mind is going to be on Charlie (dog), The Kid (horse) and Red (horse)... Not to mention trying to figure out the murder! Rainy sure has a lot of personality but cooking is not her thing.

It's kind of ironic that Rainy says she wants "nothing to do with the past when women wore long dresses and were hoeing corn" yet she shoes horses! That is very old fashioned! And so far I have no idea who the killer is.

Oh boy, now I ran into something I just don't understand.. I mean I don't HAVE to understand it to read the story but since I am trying to learn more about horses I want to. And I can't grasp how ringbone would affect the shoe being put on a horse since low ringbone is at the coronary band and the shoe is underneath the hoof... 🤔

So I took this up and back to the ranch today, read in the car. I learned a bunch of new horse stuff from this book already, including the bosal bridle which the ranch has - it fits on Slapshot! But the story has a dangerous bull named Dragoon and I suspect he will be a threat to Rainy later. I also picked up book #1 today too for this series.

So I had books to pick up at the library and I wanted to read about chipmunks, found this instead. I read two of the short stories while there and decided to check it out. These certainly seem very different and entertaining.

This is very easy to read; the writing style is just perfect and pulls you right into the story. And any terms are explained in an easy to understand way. All the things that can go wrong when diving on a wreck, including being only a few feet from the exit and not being able to see it due to clouds of silt: frightening! And the nitrogen bubbles!!

I thought I had read in a previous book in this series that a horse who wins the Triple Crown is always the Horse of the Year as well? Because it's so rare. But this one makes it seem that Assault still has to compete even though he won the Triple Crown...

With the foot injury that Assault has as a colt, it's amazing that he survived and even more shocking that he became a race horse somehow! Yikes. That is literally the worse hoof accident I have heard of (and no it's not laminitis / foundering ).

I am really struggling to read this. The stuff in here seems to repeat endlessly so I feel I am reading the same info over and over and over...even though I am on a further chapter.. I am very tempted to DNF this as I have other books to read with near due dates..

I can't believe this! She found a human hand in a glove and she didn't call the police!! 🚨 How can you not call the cops?

I am definitely enjoying this one. A woman named Rainy has a job shoeing horses. I've cleaned hoofs before with the pick but don't know much about shoeing. Most of the horses at the ranch I go to don't wear shoes. Oliver does wear some special type of wrap around shoe but unsure what you call them. But this is a murder mystery! Rainy was warned about the old lady too. Hmmm...

Lots of business dealings making waterfalls... Lots of people but no one knows where the family went. Very strange case... And the meds were left at home too. Hmmm....

I took this book with me this morning to the hiking trail in the local woods and I was reading these "spells" out loud among the green shade and the blooming flowers. Absolutely love this!! I especially like the poems that rhyme.

Only one story left to read...

Twelve seems mighty young for a Maine Coon to almost have no teeth and to be expected to only have "6 more good months". I had Maine coon cats years ago and my male cat lived to be 18. Makes me wonder what this shop owner is feeding his cats? Hmmm...

Imagine you're out hiking somewhere and you find a skull... A human skull. That's how this book starts.. that must be a horrible thing to discover.

Uh oh... What's inside that bag? Is it something we have to worry about? And shouldn't Wren worry about it too? I do think she's playing a mighty dangerous game here.

Cross really seems to love her! He sure lets Wren get away with loads of stuff. But will we ever find out who Wolf is?? I still think it's Cross. Unless I am totally off track here... But I am unsure if this book will actually reveal that.

Oh no! Wren is being a total idiot I fear!! This cannot end well... 😬

So we finally get a hint of what the elites do. I am a bit unsure if Wren is ok with that but I guess she has to be?

I bet Kaine would be scared to ride a horse going at 44 mph, in the two-point jockey position. 😂 He better not mess with cowgirl Wren too much... A girl who has no problem handling cattle is not someone to mess with..

If Wren isn't careful, Cross will figure out what she is doing. He probably already knows. The real question is, is Cross actually Wolf? I bet he is!

The car that Taeko is driving is making some very ominous sounds. I wonder if they are predicting the future or something?

In some ways this sort of reminds me of Fifth Wing. Except the recruits are not dying. Well not yet anyway. And Wren is certainly doing her own thing on purpose.

I wonder if this Wolf and that cute guy in command is possibly the same guy? Hmmm....

Would you borrow a cat you could keep only for two nights and three days?? Wouldn't that be hard on the cat?? All of those strange homes and strange people? I never read anything like this so I am very curious what effect the cats will have on people..

This third part is going well! 😁

I am making progress on this and ready to start part 3: Russia. Part two really had dragged badly for me. I hope part 3 might be better.

Well this has started out very interesting and the main character, Wren, lives on a cattle ranch! She has an appaloosa mare named Kelly. And she's an excellent shot with a rifle too.
