So Torquell is a throwback... He is not only trying to fight the authorities but he is a throwback as well. But he's just working on instinct.. if he ever wants to beat those ogres (is that even possible?) he better get smarter.

Well this story certainly has taken a somewhat unexpected turn here but it definitely has grown far more interesting. Most definitely dystopian. The real question is how it will end?

This is such a a beautiful story!

I started this in the afternoon while sitting outside in the park. At the moment I am unsure where this is going but I think there has been either a misunderstanding or else a great deal of time has passed?? But the poor librarian is in a real mess all right! And doesn't that greenhouse grow any food?? You can't eat flowers!

This has turned out to be a real survival story!

The Italia has crashed! 😮 Onto the ice... In the middle of nowhere.

I am a bit into part 3 now and I am unsure if I like this Nobile. He certainly took all the credit for the Norge expedition even though he wasn't in charge. But now he is going on his own expedition with the Italia that is on the book's cover. This third section seems to be the thickest so perhaps something will happen??

This second half of the book seems to be a tad better? It's with Byrd and Amundsen, each on their own quest for the north Pole. But how do they know when they are actually over the north pole?? It says here Byrd did it in 15.5 hours but if it's all just ice how does he know when he's over the pole??

I cannot believe I have read almost to the very end thinking that "Don" was the man's first name, like a shortened version of "Donald" or something. But all of this time it was a title!

Poor Johannes! He has everything against him now: the desert, men determined to kill him no matter what and his feet are ruined. No water either; only dry desert.

I forgot to update where I was in this book yesterday (as I was more interested in reading my western) but the part about Wellman had ended and another section on Amundsen had started. This book is not really holding my interest at all. It's supposed to be about exploring but they really aren't exploring anything at all. Which is dumb!

This is such a a fascinating story! And lots has been revealed but there are still a few secrets to discover.

"Have you ridden your black stallion yet?"
"Not yet," I said, "but soon. I think he likes me. I think, somehow, he expects me to ride him. When I saddle the other horses, he comes to the corral bars and watches. He follows along inside the corral as I ride away, and I don't believe it is just because he wishes to be with the other horses."

So this chapter suggests that some mysterious things might be following the boy.. it's all very intriguing and interesting.

These attempts by Wellman never end up well at all but in various disasters!

So I am a tad puzzled by this book, by the goal of the man who is going on this quest with the airship. He said he wants to reach China. But I have looked at maps. If you start in North America and go north you find Russia eventually. You don't end up in China. And since these people already have access to Europe wouldn't that be an easier way to reach Russia??

This story is surprisingly interesting! Poor Valentina, by trying to hide something that happens to all females, has started up a huge mess by accident. And her mother and grandmother each see it differently. But neither of them understand the truth behind it. I suspect I will read this one quickly because it's bizarre and yet very page turning!

There is real tension and anxiety building in this story, so much uncertainty! Such vivid writing !! What happened to Doug's brother? What about that cougar?? Where are his parents??? Makes me worry that something bad has happened!

I wanted to read this for awhile now and thought now was the time. But poor Doug! And are you really going to sit and hide in your tent when there is a cougar right there?? And you are trying to get merit badges? Where is the badge that says a tent is not protection from a cougar?? 😮

This story is going really well. And poor Johannes has the worst grandfather ever! That old man is full of hate. The thing about the books and the mysterious book borrower in here is very interesting too. Odd to think of Los Angeles as a small town!!

Well I am going to the ranch tomorrow so this old classic is going to be my horse book of the week. It has started out a tad mysterious too so I will see what will happen in here.

This section of the book is talking about aphantasia. To me books are just words on a page.

This is just so interesting to read! Probably because I have the face blindness too. And aphantasia as well. But this is very easy to read and the pages are flying by.

It seems that the definition of "allergy" is hard to agree on as well as how to get the tests to be accurate.

I think the OSR has picked on the wrong guy. If anyone has the skills to outsmart them it's Joe the former CIA agent. He's been trained for that stuff. Nothing in here about the lake acting up yet... But the story is just so interesting that I don't mind. The plot is just fascinating!

I wonder what good it does to have these secret meetings with the workers to discuss what changes they would like at the factory when they are not actually allowed to change anything? I think it will only lead to frustration and "stir the hornets nest". Because the work conditions is controlled by the federal government.

I kind of doubt that the "unmarried sex stuff" has actually stopped in this Eagle Party society as they claim it has. Those drives are pretty strong. Yeah, there are some people who can live like nuns but all of them? Even the Puritans had rule breakers - isn't that how they ended up with those witch trials? But this book has spies.

"I'm supposed to write down my thoughts. Should I do it, when I've been taught that thinking was something I shouldn't do?"

Wether you believe in climate change or not, this is such an interesting story to read.

I don't understand why this book has so few reviews. It's well written so far and actually very interesting. Dystopian, a controlled society, book burning, climate change, a small group wanting to change things...

All of these groups seem very determined to go to war. I guess that is no surprise.
